    Love this video. OneNote from an electrician though. If an extension cord has an impact on your cook time, the cord wires are too small. This is bad for the appliance, and it is potentially a safety hazard. Big box (Lowe’s, HomeDepot, etc) or hardware stores sell a variety of cords in different gages. Also the longer the cord, the heavier gage it needs to be.

    Great list. I would add 27 don't pull part of the sealing ring out and then just keep pulling. Work your way around. The rivets under the retaining ring can snap if too much force is applied. 28 buy an extra sealing ring and use one for sweet/low flavour foods, and one for strong savoury foods like chillies, curries, beans, etc.

      @TeddieBean 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The spoon/ladels that come with most instant pots with the "standard" release valves actually fit onto the release valve - use the handle end where there's a hole for hanging the utensil, it should pretty much fit on perfectly 👍🏻

    • @moncher2797
      @moncher2797 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If you’re that afraid, let it sit for a while. It doesn’t have to be quick released. I’ve always used my finger & have NEVER burned myself. All you have to do is touch the the little protruding thingy and move it with the slightest twitch of your finger. If your big enough to cook, then your big enough to bend your finger.

    • @robertgoetsch6790

      came here to say this. absolutely nothing wrong electrically when using the right cord. mine is 18 awg and can be found by searching for heavy duty extension or 18awg extension. that being said, do be careful if you need to use any extension cord because of the increased likelyhood of tripping over or accidentaly pulling on the cord... which could be bad news. short cords are a safety feature for many appliances...

    as a first dish, I highly recommend making beans. If you have never made beans on the stove or in a crock pot though, do that first. We've been making beans "the old fashioned way" for years i.e. without the added pressure of a pressure cooker. Waiting for them to be done can definitely turn you off to making beans. BUT! It goes WAY faster in a pressure cooker. I just start boiling the beans without seasoning in the instant pot, and after 20 or 30 minutes I can dump out the water, rinse the beans and add seasoning and water to cook them. I usually add a can of diced tomatoes and a pound of raw ground turkey. Shredded sharp cheddar, diced fresh onion and Fritos are my favorite toppings. Homemade frito pie!

    Hey, just wanted to make the comment that my husband who fixes furnaces heard your last tip, and he said that your problem is likely that you're using an extension cord with too small of a gauge. I am a seasoned Instant Pot user and found your video a great reminder of the do's and don'ts. The only one I disagreed with was the last one. I have been using my Instant Pot with an extension cord for years without a problem. The only reason I can think of for your experience, is using the incorrect extension cord. Extension cords have varying degrees of wattage, just like lightbulbs. When using for an appliance you need an extension cord that is rated for that use. These will have three prongs and are generally flat with a three ribbed cord. And I don't recommend buying one from the dollar store. They are more expensive, but your safety is worth it, as they carry a lot more power. Otherwise, great video.

      In your research, read the manual, including "troubleshooting". Also, check the picture of your IP to make certain you have all its parts. Another thing, when buying a cookbook, it’s nice if it has Instant Pots approval label.

    Quick note: if you are having problems with an extension cord,. you are likely using a cheap (lamp) extension. If you have an industrial grade extension (15-20A. like used for power tools), It should be fine. Hard to find one 6 ft or shorter, but I have one. I haven't tried it with the pot, because I have no need. And it's busy extending my microwave oven ;)

    A must-watch for new owners like me. Thank you! One question about your instructions to not use milk as the liquid in a recipe. Does this mean when the only liquid is milk? I used a mixture of liquids that included milk and cream (didn't have half/half) to make risotto and had no problems with the results (in fact it was perfect). How much milk is too much milk? As for music/no music. I vote for no music.

    Thank you! I like the presentation without music. I am a very experienced instant pot user so I knew most of what you presented. I admit I didn’t know that the slow cooking function cooks at a lower temp than a regular crock pot. I’ve not ever used that function as I like my slow cooked food in stone ware.
    I always leave my instant pot on the back burner of my glass top stove. It never occurred to me someone could turn on the burner. It’s just my husband and me, so that’s not going to happen. I like the convenience of the exhaust fan right above the pot when I release pressure. Just make sure when you release pressure you don’t direct the steam at the light bulbs. I never had an issue in my house, but I once broke the bulbs in my son’s house.
    Nice presentation!
