    When Rain Country said You Tube thought they were over reacting or fearmongering with their tips on what to do in the face of the coronavirus; my words, not You Tube's, but that's what it amounted to, it made me mad. Though they did let them keep airing it, they won't let them make any money on it. Just to try and make up for the loss of income I am playing every single video they ever put out, all the way through, especially the ads, just to make sure they count. That doesn't mean I have to watch them again or watch ones that aren't of an interest to me. I am lining them up on my saved videos, I 'like' them all, turn down the sound and let them play while I'm doing other things. You Tube can be a bit judgemental. And considering some of the filth I have run across, it comes off as a little hypocritical as well on occasion. I saw nothing to cause a panic and the tips can be used for even the common cold. Use common sense. I have picked some of my favorite You Tube pages; like yours ☺️; and am doing the same thing. I want to make sure all of my favorites get their fair payment for all their hard work.

I am glad l did that, as I use my Instant Pot a lot. I love it. 💘

    (Another comment) All Points Bulletin: WATCH OUT FOR BEETS! Don’t be a mad scientist: be certain to follow tried and true methods. I am sharing an interesting experience with cooking beets in my 9 quart instant pot, that could have turned out worse.
    Part 1. My instruction chart for cooking vegetables in the Instant Pot doesn’t include beets. The recipes I looked up online all called for only one layer of beets and one recipe said you could use quick release when they were done cooking, whereas another recommended slow release.
    I had a big bag of beets to use up, so I filled the liner to the maximum (2/3 mark), which was about half of the bag.
    Unfortunately, when the cooking time was up I tried quick release. Alas! Tons of wet red steam shot forth from the valve and splattered everywhere (thankfully pointed toward the wall and not myself) before I could think to cover it with a towel and reset the pressure button. I was glad I had set it on the stove, so the extent of beet-juice puddles and splatters was relatively contained, so clean up was not too bad, except for the backsplash and range-hood. (Later at bed-time, when I went to brush my teeth, I saw in the mirror that there was a big red splatter on one side of my face).
    Once it was safe to open the pot, I saw that a lot of beet liquid had accumulated. This would explain why quick release for a large
    amount of boiling beets (?or other liquid-y foods?) is not a great approach.
    Part 2. The funky smell of beets lingered. After all my scrubbing/rinsing the lid, there was a tell-tale pool of pink water in the dish-drain tray! I would not have detected this if the water had not been coloured.
    Thank goodness for your advice to clean the instant pot with vinegar plus quick release. I am relieved that the pot and especially the lid/ valve unit has finally been cleaned.😊

  • @msdawntreader
    @msdawntreader 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Good information! Personally, I take all the bits and pieces of the lid's pressurizing mechanisms out and clean them, every time I use the pot-- I just get paranoid about the remote possibility of debris clogging up a pressure cooker! Maybe it does not matter, but just in case....

  • @lorimast
    @lorimast 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I would be worried of mold showing up on the lid if you don't remove the seal. I was confused by the instructions with my IP if you can put the lid in the dishwasher. But I do not, since it looks pretty mechanical.

    • @MarysNest
      @MarysNest  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Lori, I'm with you - and I was surprised to learn from IP that you can put the lid in on the top rack of the dishwasher. You have to remove the sealing ring but also some of the mechanics - which worries me - for a thorough cleaning. I'd rather just wash it by hand. Love, Mary

    We have a new Instant Pot. It came with the EasySeal™ lid. We never need to worry about sealing the vent, and the quick release is much less daunting than with our old pressure cooker. It's a small thing, but it makes a big difference!

    Mine has sanitize button, can I use that one for cleaning ?

    • @MarysNest
      @MarysNest  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Linda, Thanks for visiting. And...That is a great question. I know lots of folks use that to sanitize jars, etc. But I do not see where that is recommended as an option for cleaning the Instant Pot. For cleaning the Instant Pot, the company recommends using the "steam" or "pressure" option. But you could certainly give them a call and ask them if the sanitize button would be an option. Thank you Mary! Glad that I checked the internet before washing the lid in my dishwasher - I will now follow your directions with the vinegar to remove the strong odor from the Bison Chili I made for my sister-in-law for her 65th Birthday yesterday... I purchased an extra ring that I only use for yogurt making... if your method really does remove the odor from the original ring I will leave it in the lid when I make my yogurt...

    Just the info I was looking for! Thank you. I am so relieved to be able to clean the valve, etc.
    NOTE: when I first used my new Instant pot, I washed the lid a couple of times with the silicone ring in it, and then it developed a small rust mark next to the ring, (I suppose because I didn’t dry it properly?) So I now remove the ring every time to wash it and the lid with hot soapy water and dry it before inserting the ring again. It seems to be less odorous overall.

    Cumin is one of the hardest scents to get rid of. Vinegar soaking the rubber seal ring is my choice as well. I also have 2 rings like you mentioned one for sweet and one for savory dishes. There's nothing like looking forward to a nice dish of rice pudding that tastes like cumin. Definitely not my favorite flavor combo. Lol

    We use Barkeepers Friend for anything solid steel...but if it's carbon steel like my outdoor knives you have to remember to rinse that off really well...dry it and then lubricate with Pam or drug store mineral oil. It's great on solid copper too.
