    I always used random orbital buffers because I was afraid of burning through the paint and I was always getting less than ideal results. I finally bought a rotary and wow, what a HUGE improvement. Now I have rotaries in several sizes and my work is so much better

      yes they are way way better, rotary is crap and so are foam pads.

    When I used to work I always used a rotary buffer as it cuts quicker and providing you keep it moving and as you said always buff off your edges then you will be fine, I always found that a random orbit never really got the scratches out and they could come back after a while, a random orbital is good for final polishing to remove any swirls👍
    Thanks for sharing this useful info Chris👌👍John UK

    Another great video. You rock. Simple and informative. Used your suggestions today. Had a little trouble cause the clear coat was a month old…procrastinating. Perseverance won!

    If you soak the 3m paper it doesn’t dull out so quick

    What does a painter helper do? I got a job offer to be one. I went to paint and body school work with a friend in his body shop plus painted over a dozen cars. I'm I over qualified, do I get to paint. Commercial shop

      Your assisting the painter in prep and what ever he need to get cars ready for paint. You may get to paint depends on the shop. This is a good entry level position to get experience. Check on advancement potential and use it as a stepping stone.

      Pulling panels, sanding, taping off and polishing process

    This is the stage that I am in currently with my project. How do you prevent pig tails while sanding? I have to do all the wet sanding by hand because with my DA I kept getting pig tails. Did not matter how often I would wipe the surface down and re-wet, I would get pig tails. Thanks again for another informative video.

    • @GarageNoise
      @GarageNoise  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If your hand sanding you shouldn't get any pigtails. Those are created from the orbital sander. That's why I hand sand with 2000 cause if I use it with the orbital I get pigtails.

    • @GarageNoise
      @GarageNoise  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ok, sorry I got you. The 3000 and 5000 won't create pigtails with the orbital only 2000 and coarser.

    Any suggestions on holograms? Sometimes after I get done wet sanding and polish a black paint job i’ll have a hell of a time getting them out.

    • @GarageNoise
      @GarageNoise  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A softer buffing pad should correct that, finishing pad black foam. Appreciate your comment!

      @@GarageNoise when doing orange peel on a whole panel I usually start out with a wool pad and Maguires cutting compound on the rotary after wet sand, then work my way down with a medium pad followed by a black finishing pad using Maguires ultra finishing polish and the orbital, still see them sometimes in the sun but only on black paint jobs, maybe I’ll give that CSI all in one a try.

    Great video, after you paint and put on a clear coat is there a certain amount of time to wait? Should you wait 30 days or is it ok to sand and polish after a few days? Thank you again for your time

    Why would you sand down with anything finer then 3,000grit ?

    • @GarageNoise
      @GarageNoise  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sometimes I'll use 5000. When using 5000 it's almost like you starting the polishing process it starts to give it a shine, makes it so simple to buff. It's not absolutely necessary you can easily buff after 2000 or 3000

    • @Red_dot_randy

      @@GarageNoiseI Always polish out after 2000, mostly cause I’m cheap and don’t want to buy finer grits of paper lol

    Can you wait too long before buffing?

    Have a concern? In auto Collision school and recently painted a fender for a customer vehicle. But instructor stopped me on second basecoat saying that i went to heavy. So stopped on second basecoat and applied the metallics it turned out well. customer came back and put the new fender back on. When the car was out the shop the sun hit the fender and was lighter than rest of the car. So kinda felt like I failed because it didnt match.

    • @GarageNoise
      @GarageNoise  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Don't feel like that! It will NEVER MATCH perfectly without blending into the adjacent panels.

    Keep having pigs tail when using a DA Chris 😮😮

    • @GarageNoise

      Your using 1500 on the orbital? Cause that will do it. I like to hand sand with 2000 this way no pigtails. Then 3000 on the orbital. I don't get pigtails from 3000.
