Thanks a lot Chris for doing these videos and helping me with my new adventure into spray painting
Awesome! It's very rewarding and a lot of fun. Appreciate your comment and support brother!
Great video Chris
👊👍
Love your straightforward videos. Restoring a 65 Fastback. I'll be watching every video you make
Thanks brother! Appreciate your comment! Sounds like a fun project.
Thank you for all of the informational videos and yes definitely a video about correcting paint flaws like dust particles and lint would be most appreciated.
Gotcha, I'll work on putting one together.
I took ROP body and fender in high school then worked in a body shop for a few months as a kid, as a cabinet maker spraying conversion varnish with an airless was second nature. Now I just bought a jeep Cherokee that could use some fresh paint, my body work days were 35 years ago, wondering if I can still spray a car ha ha ha.!!!
Thank you so much very helpful I've painted alot of things but always have to cut and buff this helped alot.
Good stuff!
Thank you for posting
👍Thank's for watching!
I just painted my first panel yesterday and I came out really good all thanks to your vids
Awesome to know! Appreciate the comment and support!
Great job!
👍
Thanks for sharing your skills with us Chris there is some very useful info here which will help me with my basecoat, mine used to go on quite dry and never felt smooth but a few weeks ago I started trying slow reducer (I used to use fast) in my base which has made a big difference as it's now nice a smooth which also helps my clearcoat finish👍John UK
I learned my lesson on using the right temp reducer the hard way, in 90° temp on a silver hood that I sprayed 3 time and I just couldn't get it smooth. I was so flippin frustrated! I flooded that hood with base and it felt like 180 grit sandpaper. Switched to slow reducer an it came out silky smooth. Appreciate the comment and support!
Awesome videos !! thanks for all the help you provide thru them and for the all the effort and work u put on them !!
Thank you for the comment! Appreciate your support. Happy to hear the video's are helpful!👊👊
@@GarageNoiseI did a place on the bed and my paint store mixed the paint wrong. Can I spray base over clear the next day
@@wildestcowboy2668 yes you can , 600 or 800 base and clear.

Well done
👍thank you!
I like great explanation
👍thank's brother!
Another excellent video Chris and it is so nice that you get down to business with no crap background music edited in and we can hear the spray gun working.
When spraying clear with the Sagola did you have any of your portable exhaust fans turned on? as you did not seem to getting much overspray fog
It is so refreshing to see excellent work can be produced in an open workshop without an expensive spray booth and nominal dust (if not any) landing in the paint
Thank's! appreciate all the kind words and support. So yeah it was a nice sunny day so I was able to kick a door open and had a fan exhausting out the fumes.
Thanks for the class. Hugs. São Paulo - SP. Brazil.
Yw! Appreciate your comment and support!
Great job Chris! I was just wondering if you were still using the GTO, and here it is!!
Don't use it enough but I love the low overspray of the r500
came out beautifully. I would like to see a video on dealing with problems as they arise. I'm a DIY and teaching myself painting. I'm getting better but I still run across issues while painting and some of them stump me
I got one in an upcoming video so stay tuned.
Good job.
Thanks!
Love your work Chris! Always a great result. Your paintwork is up there with booth performed spray jobs!
Thanks brother! Appreciate your comment and support!

@@mickholgate3347 That's so cool!
Hey Chris love the channel and your clearcut way of explaining. spraying in cold temps 50-60 degrees and using fast reducers and activators. Is that temp too cold and how long should I wait between coats for both base and clear and how long between final base coat and first clear
Your videos are brilliant, I wish you could teach me to paint
👍
Awesome Chris. I need to paint my whole truck that color. Its a GM and the paint is falling off. Im going to do it piece by piece. Thanks
👍👊
I’ve been in it for 8 years as a prepper. I’ve been dabbling into spraying. I’m putting it on to wet. No runs. But with colors like Hondas Nh747m the way u apply it goes on too dark even tho I match the color fine and mix it up.
I wish i have that beutiful gun..but im working for it. Saving some money

Thanks

My Speedo kote bright white dosn't cover very well even after sealing bondo and bare metel with speed kote sealer. Is there a way to make it cover better. Using cheap gun 1.4.
Hi, any experience with hycote panel prep degreaser ? I’m getting ready to epoxy prime and really don’t want any contamination
Thanks for the video learned alot I only wish it was a more darker color because I couldn't see how the base layed.❤
Check out some of my other darker paint jobs.
Hi have you ever used anti silicone addertive do they help. Enjoyed the viddy always learning Thanks.
Yes, I perfer not too but it does work . A few times at a shop I was running the painter was having a terrible time with fisheyes . It cleared it up.
I am getting a ton of water out of my 60 gallon kobalt compressor. I’ve drained it and added the red filter. Do you have any more tips. Thanks
It is always a pleasure to watch your informative videos. Let's suppose that the compressor is in keeping with air need of a HVLP spray gun. To spray a metallic base, which gun should be used, HLVP or LVLP?
I think an hvlp produces a slightly better finish for clear but it will also produce more over spray and use more materials. So it really just depends on your situation and needs. Appreciate your comment and support!
Hi Chris, Really good video Chris. Did you tack between the base coats? Danno
I think I did after one coat of base. Most of the time I'll look it over between coats to see if it needs it. Appreciate your comment and support!
Hi recently sprayed a bonnet had some tiny pinholes in the clear coat showing down to the sealer paint has not adhered properly what is cause .Thanks great video's. 18:09 18:09
That I believe would be a contamination from air supply oil, moisture something of that nature.
Wondering, I been told to paint panel in same position it is on vehicle, like the fender I was told not to lay flat but position it like on vehicle thank you
On white or a solid color I find it makes no difference. On metallics is where you want the same paint orientation. It's best to hang the parts on those but a good orientation can still be achieved spraying it flat as well. Appreciate your comment and support brother!
Did you use flex primer on the front plastic bumper piece and then put adhesive promoter???
And he's in promoter, is technically a flex. Additive, there's also flex additive built into the paint.
Oh.ok cool
Hi Chris, thanks for the brilliant videos. Just a question, What kind of paint do you use for Base? do you use standard basecoat or 1 or 2k basecoat? out of the three which do you prefer to use with 2k clear?
I use the nason xl which is a urethane enamel. Not a true 2k base coat cause it has no hardner. My feeling is for durability basecoat doesn't matter as much as the clearcoat, that's what protects the paint. Others may disagree and I'm sure there's exceptions but it's worked out well for me.
HI Chris. Excellent video. Thank you! I've been following more closely as I'm about to attempt laying down base/clear for the first time. I'm pretty much done with primer and ready to start with my A610 that I've seen you use. I only have a small compressor so I'm limited to an LVLP gun. Just curious if you found the finish much better with the Sagola vs the A610? I've been thinking maybe I should use a different gun for clear but my options are a bit limited due to the compressor. In previous videos you seemed to get great results with the A610/R500. Just having last minute doubts. Thanks!
There's a slight difference, for me it really doesn't matter which gun I use. I wouldn't worry about getting another gun. follow the steps I share do some test panels and you should have no problem getting a great finish out of that gun.
@@GarageNoise Thanks!
Gun is a Ronpeng 802. This Chinese company makes several decent quality spray guns including the popular R500.
This is made by Rong Peng It's actually the R830. The R802 is a good gun too It's the sata clone. They also make the R500 and a great Touch up gun R100
Yep, I commented on the wrong video 😂. I was watching the video about the Sata clone just before this one.
Would definitely like a viedo where you fix things
@@anthonybrady3927 I've got many video where I fix things. Check out the channel and subscribe!
Does nason XL make a good pearl without the yellow tent? I'm trying to find a reasonable price white pearl that's good
Add a pearl to normal clear coat. This guy has several videos messing with pearls and different pigments th-cam.com/video/53R57afnoaI/w-d-xo.htmlsi=iWrMde6CTvbRxht7
Is it good to put more coats of clear so wet sanding won’t go through to base coat?
You don't need more that two. You could apply 3 but you need more flash time between coats 2 and 3.
If you put more coats on it creates more orange peel
In your opinion what clears better the upol or acme1?
I like how the upol spray a bit better but not sure about the durability. I know the finish 1 has excellent durability.
I am have issue with dust I clean clean but I still have a lot of dust. I’m not sure what I supposed to do to get a clean job. I see you doing very good job with out paint booth I would like to know how I do good job without dust
Check this video out it's all about getting a clean paint job th-cam.com/video/SJgy3y0wIdU/w-d-xo.html
Any recommendations for sources for budget friendly online paint suppliers for urethane 2 part single stage color coats, factory color scheme? I've been using Martin Senour from my local Napa store for about 20 years as a do it yourself/hobbyist but everything is getting to be in the $350 or above range for a quart of color for dent repairs. The colors do match very well.
That's pricey, I don't have any online sources. I'm sure there are plenty out there but none I can recommend at this time.
Hey I have this exact spray gun, what PSI would you recommend to apply clear coat?
I like it at 30psi for clear. Appreciate your comment and support!
Solid colors are easy
👍
It's actually pretty good for such a disorganized and dirty shop.
Are you serious? It’s a shop, not a studio. 🤡
Yes I want to know how to over come obsracles
Gotcha , I'll work on some videos
After you spray base, can you scuff it with 600 or 800 before clear coat,is that a thing do you have to ? Been doing single stage paint, my first base coat, clear coat, but I have cleared it before. Does base coat blend better, let's say I do my top first
You can sand with 6-800 just to remove dust and then you must add another coat of base.
What needs to be done to spray base but come back months later? The roof and bottom of my truck are painted in single stage white. I’d like to flat sand them and clear all of it together. Will just a scuff give me a good bond between my blue base or should I sand with some 800?
Months later to do clear .
You don't want to let basecoat sit for a month before you clear. Typically you have a 24hr window. Sand with 800 before topcoat
@@GarageNoise Thanks sir!
On your Amazon store listing for the Sagola shows 4 different caps. Which one did you use and why? Ty
The tech cap with the 1.3 great all around cap for base and great atomization for slick clear coat.
@@GarageNoise I've been trying to decide on a higher end gun. summit racing has the pro lite with 1.2,1.3, and 1.4 needles with te10 and te20 caps for $630. I'm trying to do slick paint work for restoration and the pro lite has been the one I've been eyeing until you said this one shoots a flat clear. Decisions? Help?
@@FE428Power If your talking about the Sagola 3300 gto you can't go wrong. I can't imagine the pro lite is much better. When you get into these qualities guns there's not a huge difference. I believe the Sagola is a bit cheaper as well. I have sprayed with the pro lite and it's a great gun. I've always been a Devilbiss fan. I have two Devilbiss plus guns. If you've been dreamin about the pro lite and get the Sagola you'll always wonder about the pro lite🤣 You know what I'm sayin?
Could the clear be sprayed onto the base several days after the base coat was applied ( acrylic paint)
No usually there's a 24hr window to apply clear. Check your paint TDS
I used Nason brand for my clear coat, waited about 24 hours before wet sanding. I used an aggressive 1000 grit paper and i literally could not remove enough material off. I though it would be soft since I didn’t allow a lot of time to dry so I actually started with a 1500 grit with medium to hard pressure, but hardly could remove any excess clear off. Should I wait another day or two and try wet sanding with 800?
Is it really rough? With heavy orange peel? Nason is good clear. Be careful using 800 you could sand thru that clear how many coat of clear did you apply?
It’s smooth. Hardly any orange peel. The reason why I tired sanding it is because I had a drop of Gorilla glue drip onto the panel. I was gluing the Plastic bumper trim and the glue sagged down to the painted bumper. I couldn’t get rid of the glue only so I decided to wet sand and buff.
I applied only 2 full wet coats of clear. Yes, it’s a damn good clear coat.
@@richardjeun ok so, your trying to remove the glue. That is a tough one.
Garage noise Do you teach people or classes people can take from you am in California please reply thanks
Just on the old TH-cam.
What size nozzle for base, colorless?
1.3
What is the name of that red part on the pistol?
The ball on the end of the gun is a water trap.
What scratch did it have to apply base coat ?
600-800
I didn’t understand what a drop coat is. You mentioned that w/ the Silverado white truck. I appreciate all that you do to explain videos
Drop coat is a light coat to to make the blend transition look seamless.

3 coats chris? 1 medium wet, 2 wet🤔 good as always 👍
Only need two. Appreciate your comment and!
how to overcome obstacles when painting
Gotcha!
So there is really no need for blending agents?
Not on white or black or a lot of colors. Mostly I use a color blender or wet bed on difficult metallic colors like gold or silver. The other times you want to use it is in extremely hot temps it's very helpful then, to allow those metallic paints to lay in a color blender. It won't hurt to use it on everything if it makes you feel more comfortable in blending, but not necessary. Good question, I appreciate your comment and support!
Can i set my mini gun to 2.5 to 3 turn out

Next time Iam getting a gun
You might as well. It's a lot of fun . What happened?
@@GarageNoise primer looks good but the primer came out kinda spotty had to do first 4 coats . After blocking only got 2 more coats as bottle. Was empty it’s was near expiration date 12/20/21 . Says 36 months on line. Still came out ok it’s wet sanded and will paint with the mixed and filled matching paint and 2k clear next Saturday. Got fingers crossed
What actually causes orange peel? Too much product or too many coats? Or?
I think it's product that arrived already dry on the panel, possibly caused by the use of the wrong thinner, or too far a spray distance from the panel. Improper gun adjustment/poor atomization may be the cause as well. I place myself under your comment to also know a little more if he ever answers. I still see a lot of orange peel on the varnish once applied, it's not mirror like I like.
There's a lot of variables, but the simple answer is too much material and poor atomization of the clear. I'll try to go into it more in a future video.
Atomization yes, it also helps to thin out your clear.
Looks like you have very little oversprsy
👍
Looks good but still has som orange peel in it.
So does the rest of the truck wouldn't look right dead flat
