    I took ROP body and fender in high school then worked in a body shop for a few months as a kid, as a cabinet maker spraying conversion varnish with an airless was second nature. Now I just bought a jeep Cherokee that could use some fresh paint, my body work days were 35 years ago, wondering if I can still spray a car ha ha ha.!!!

    Thanks for sharing your skills with us Chris there is some very useful info here which will help me with my basecoat, mine used to go on quite dry and never felt smooth but a few weeks ago I started trying slow reducer (I used to use fast) in my base which has made a big difference as it's now nice a smooth which also helps my clearcoat finish👍John UK

    • @GarageNoise
      @GarageNoise  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I learned my lesson on using the right temp reducer the hard way, in 90° temp on a silver hood that I sprayed 3 time and I just couldn't get it smooth. I was so flippin frustrated! I flooded that hood with base and it felt like 180 grit sandpaper. Switched to slow reducer an it came out silky smooth. Appreciate the comment and support!

    When spraying clear with the Sagola did you have any of your portable exhaust fans turned on? as you did not seem to getting much overspray fog
    It is so refreshing to see excellent work can be produced in an open workshop without an expensive spray booth and nominal dust (if not any) landing in the paint

    It is always a pleasure to watch your informative videos. Let's suppose that the compressor is in keeping with air need of a HVLP spray gun. To spray a metallic base, which gun should be used, HLVP or LVLP?

    • @GarageNoise
      @GarageNoise  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think an hvlp produces a slightly better finish for clear but it will also produce more over spray and use more materials. So it really just depends on your situation and needs. Appreciate your comment and support!

      On white or a solid color I find it makes no difference. On metallics is where you want the same paint orientation. It's best to hang the parts on those but a good orientation can still be achieved spraying it flat as well. Appreciate your comment and support brother!

    Hi Chris, thanks for the brilliant videos. Just a question, What kind of paint do you use for Base? do you use standard basecoat or 1 or 2k basecoat? out of the three which do you prefer to use with 2k clear?

    • @GarageNoise
      @GarageNoise  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I use the nason xl which is a urethane enamel. Not a true 2k base coat cause it has no hardner. My feeling is for durability basecoat doesn't matter as much as the clearcoat, that's what protects the paint. Others may disagree and I'm sure there's exceptions but it's worked out well for me.

  • @moffattn
    @moffattn ปีที่แล้ว +1

    HI Chris. Excellent video. Thank you! I've been following more closely as I'm about to attempt laying down base/clear for the first time. I'm pretty much done with primer and ready to start with my A610 that I've seen you use. I only have a small compressor so I'm limited to an LVLP gun. Just curious if you found the finish much better with the Sagola vs the A610? I've been thinking maybe I should use a different gun for clear but my options are a bit limited due to the compressor. In previous videos you seemed to get great results with the A610/R500. Just having last minute doubts. Thanks!

    • @GarageNoise
      @GarageNoise  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There's a slight difference, for me it really doesn't matter which gun I use. I wouldn't worry about getting another gun. follow the steps I share do some test panels and you should have no problem getting a great finish out of that gun.

      @@GarageNoise I've been trying to decide on a higher end gun. summit racing has the pro lite with 1.2,1.3, and 1.4 needles with te10 and te20 caps for $630. I'm trying to do slick paint work for restoration and the pro lite has been the one I've been eyeing until you said this one shoots a flat clear. Decisions? Help?

      @@FE428Power If your talking about the Sagola 3300 gto you can't go wrong. I can't imagine the pro lite is much better. When you get into these qualities guns there's not a huge difference. I believe the Sagola is a bit cheaper as well. I have sprayed with the pro lite and it's a great gun. I've always been a Devilbiss fan. I have two Devilbiss plus guns. If you've been dreamin about the pro lite and get the Sagola you'll always wonder about the pro lite🤣 You know what I'm sayin?

    Could the clear be sprayed onto the base several days after the base coat was applied ( acrylic paint)

      No usually there's a 24hr window to apply clear. Check your paint TDS

    I used Nason brand for my clear coat, waited about 24 hours before wet sanding. I used an aggressive 1000 grit paper and i literally could not remove enough material off. I though it would be soft since I didn’t allow a lot of time to dry so I actually started with a 1500 grit with medium to hard pressure, but hardly could remove any excess clear off. Should I wait another day or two and try wet sanding with 800?

    • @GarageNoise
      @GarageNoise  ปีที่แล้ว

      Is it really rough? With heavy orange peel? Nason is good clear. Be careful using 800 you could sand thru that clear how many coat of clear did you apply?

    • @richardjeun
      @richardjeun ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s smooth. Hardly any orange peel. The reason why I tired sanding it is because I had a drop of Gorilla glue drip onto the panel. I was gluing the Plastic bumper trim and the glue sagged down to the painted bumper. I couldn’t get rid of the glue only so I decided to wet sand and buff.
      I applied only 2 full wet coats of clear. Yes, it’s a damn good clear coat.

    how to overcome obstacles when painting

  • @rvega314
    @rvega314 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    So there is really no need for blending agents?

    • @GarageNoise
      @GarageNoise  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not on white or black or a lot of colors. Mostly I use a color blender or wet bed on difficult metallic colors like gold or silver. The other times you want to use it is in extremely hot temps it's very helpful then, to allow those metallic paints to lay in a color blender. It won't hurt to use it on everything if it makes you feel more comfortable in blending, but not necessary. Good question, I appreciate your comment and support!

    What actually causes orange peel? Too much product or too many coats? Or?

    • @niconickzi9748
      @niconickzi9748 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think it's product that arrived already dry on the panel, possibly caused by the use of the wrong thinner, or too far a spray distance from the panel. Improper gun adjustment/poor atomization may be the cause as well. I place myself under your comment to also know a little more if he ever answers. I still see a lot of orange peel on the varnish once applied, it's not mirror like I like.

    • @GarageNoise
      @GarageNoise  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There's a lot of variables, but the simple answer is too much material and poor atomization of the clear. I'll try to go into it more in a future video.
