Looks good👍🏻 great advice too. I was a professional painter for 27 years, I used to dread that color because of the time involved in making it happen, I used to shoot Sikkens also for a long time. It was even more of a treat doing it in waterborne too🤦🏻‍♂️
I always hated using a gauge and would just adjust my guns by sound and feel, definitely not great advice for someone starting out but I couldn’t stand the “clunkiness” and it always worked for me. The only time I halfway used a gauge was with the digital Satas….. until the batteries died lol. Great content🙌🏻

Brian - thanks so much for all the education. I'm 64, and the last car I painted was in the late 70's. Acrylic enamel... I never was a good painter. Thanks to your channel, I'm seeing some real improvements. As for noise canceling - nah. It's useful to hear the sound of the gun. A few questions - while it is obvious when you speed up the video for time's sake, it was not clear to me if you had sped it up or not when you were painting the hood. Do you really move that fast? If so, I've got to adjust some things.

The noise cancelling is a major improvement. To us, air pressure settings are just one of the elements needed for a perfect finish. One spray gun is setup, to us, the most important element is paint viscosity coupled to air & body temperature.

I would use the top of the fan for blending. Arcing my passes down as I blend back.
Finish up with a drop coat on a regular metalic( not a tri-stage). Arcing the top of my fan to match the curve of the panel . Hiding the blend. Have showed a few young painters how to do this. They always thank me for showing them this technique. 😋

I really appreciate the tips for this color. I do a lot acuras and was always frustrated with the thousands of layers of mid coat. I also use the reverse blend for all the Tricoats now. Oh and the noise isn't distracting or anything. I wouldn't worry about that unless you have people using air tools or something nearby.

nice tips man. this works well for 3 stage whites as well. couple of things i disagree on somewhat.
doubling up on the red in the mid coat, in some systems can end up being too red, and maybe 2 coats isnt enough, but then putting one more on ends up being too much. i think you have better control over that at mixing normally, depending on the system of course.
the other would be the blend on the door, no stepping? not that it cant work, but like, i teach newer guys that the eyes dont see a horizontal blend as much as a vertical one.
    nice vid car looks great!

What would be the best way to address this issue and put down a beautiful paint job? Should I strip it and will that take off the galvanizing question mark Should I strip it and will that take off the galvanizing? Noise cancellation…… I kind of enjoy the videos that have the voice overs, but when I am watching a video that is being shot live such as yours, I think it adds to the video to be able to hear some of that background noise. It is not more difficult to understand you, and it gives a better sense of experiencing the actual environment that you’re in. We can hear the fans running and the gun spraying, and I think all of those things add to the learning experience maybe in a weird way, but it does for me. I appreciate you, all your videos are great.

I think the noise canceling is best when you’re explaining what you’re doing or how you’re doing it.
I do have one question though. I’ve noticed that you don’t have your hose behind your shoulders like I’ve seen so many do and I’ve tended to use this technique. Is there any particular reason why you don’t do that? I’ve gotten my hose into the panel as well and since I started doing this myself I haven’t had the hose get into the panel. I’m just wondering if there is something that I’m missing here

I prefer the noise cancelling when you're talking and don't mind the background noise during the spraying.
Question - what pressure would you start with with an overseas touch up gun. I picked up one from Harbor Freight to touch up a small portion of a door jamb.
