- In this video I start the process of insulating my floor in the ProMaster. I used 3/4" Polyiso rigid foam board for my insulation. I had a lot of trouble finding it in southern California, none of the big box stores carried it. I ended up being able to custom order some through J&B Materials. They were super helpful, give them a call for any building supplies if you are in the area.
We’ll finish up installing the subfloor in the van next week, yewwwwwwwww!

Did you insulate your floor? Would you do it again if you built another van?
I didn't insulate my mini bus floors - just plywood & mold primer. It got cold but not sure it makes a difference if theres no heat source for an extended period of time. Doing a promaster now.. hence why I'm here - It has that heavy duty rubber floor mat 1/4 " thick - tempted to just plywood over that - Happy you insulated?
@@Roam4Wild I found out on accident how much of a difference it makes when I was waiting for things to set, I left a gap in one of my seams and that part of the floor was so much colder than the rest of the floor the next morning. Yes, without a heat source the van is still going to be chilly, but there is a difference IMO. I am happy that I insulated, I would do it again if I built another one.
Great video. Thank you for sharing. I do have a question; I was thinking of using neoprene for my floor insulation ( maybe wrapping it in a plastic?) and then installing those vinyl rectangular- interlocking flooring. I’m wondering if the neoprene will hold over time against mold / moisture Etc.

It bonds really well to a lot of different materials. The trick is to spray it on each piece of material, so for example in this case it'd be one side of the polyiso and the van floor, let it sit for like 3-5 minutes until it's tacky, and then adhere them together.

In Escondido. I do have few more questions for you. Did you use both birch and poplar furring strips for framing the floor? And was all 1x2 strips? And 3/4 birch plywood for the to lay on top the strips? Lol, thanks again bro I’m sure I’ll be asking more questions. You’re patients and detailed stuff is much appreciated.
Nice, it took me forever to find that stuff. I just used pine 1x2's for the floor, but I primed all of it. Go for the poplar if you're ok with spending the $$. I used 3/4" birch for my subfloor, but you could do 1/2".

Have you experienced any squeaks with your layout? I"m confuse as how much gap should i leave between the edge and strips? or should i make the strips as close/tight to the edge? any advice truly appreciate. Great video!
That was a concern of mine as well, but I have no squeaks from the floor so far. Give yourself 1/8" - 1/4" for flexing.
Hey Jason how did you find the tie down threads?
Where did you use the Sikaflex? I am cutting the plywood tomorrow but wanted to seal things up where needed. Did you use between the joints of 1x2's?
I used the sikaflex to seal up a crack I had in my floor.

Thank you Jason, I am anxious to follow you throughout the build. If you haven't progressed beyond this point yet I was wondering if you could help me with a single measurement. I would really like to know the width of the van measured from outer skin to outer skin (sheet metal to sheet metal) immediately above the upper rails. By "upper" rail I mean the rail that runs the length of the van immediately above the windows/window-areas. Thank you in advance.

no worries, I'll try to grab a measurement today
hard to get it accurate because the van curves and I already have insulation in, but it's about 74.5 inches

ProMasters tend to leak ??? Yikes! I did not realize that...
You can find a lot of forum posts about people having water issues. I may have been a bit overzealous with my phrasing of 'tend to leak', but I think it's really important to be cautious of making sure the van is water tight (as best as possible) because of how many other people do have issues.
I personally had issues with the gaskets not sealing on all of my doors so I had water in the van when I first bought it because the dealer power washed the van and didn't realize it was spraying directly inside. I've been paranoid ever since.

Cannot find 3/4” polyiso anywhere… already glued my furring strips. I have 1/2 polyiso. Wondering if you suggest me doubling up and pushing the board to be flush with the furring strips? Is that a bad idea? Or maybe using 1/4 havelock wool to make up depth? I am over my head…

@@JasonKlunk yeah I figured that’s what you did and I’m assuming it was to cut down on costs? No sense in doing the entire floor if you have cabinets that will use that space correct? Also, thank you for taking the time to make this video series. It’s incredible well done and helpful. I just bought a new 2020 transit to convert and I bought all my supplies for the floor based off your vids/ @gregvirgoe . @@CrimpKeeper thank you! Every flooring is different, but if you're using a floating/click-lock vinyl of some sort, in most cases it's recommended by the manufacturer to not install cabinets on top of the flooring.

The floor is absolutely solid, I would do the same thing again if I built another van.

Hi Jason...What size bolts did you use to tie your floor down in the existing holes?
They are M8X1.25 - there is a link in the subfloor video if you can't find them. You'll have to figure out the length based on what you are doing for the floor.

1X2 wood, with 3/4 inch polyiso, why not 1 inch poly? Is the poly a true 1 inch and the wood not (3/4 perhaps)?

When you hear "1 by..." or "2 by...", it's a reference to the nominal lumber size. The actual dimensions of lumber are pretty much never what they're referred to as. A 1x2 is 3/4 x 1-1/2". For any other lumber size, you can look up a nominal vs actual size chart online :)
