Watching someone, and I mean this in the nicest possible way, who doesn’t really know what they’re doing, is brilliant. Experienced people always take it for granted that we know the simple stuff, when often we don’t. This is a brilliant guide for people doing their first van. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

There is no reason to run battens on the floor. In my last 3 vans I just placed 25mm celotex onto the metal floor and laid the T&G flooring on top. I glued the T & G together and the secured it at the sliding side door and back doors and it never moved. Remember that the raised bits of van flooring are closely spaced enough so that the T & G won't sag - 18mm T&G is good for at least 400mm centres.

Great van build, Shaun. My wife and I are guilty of being one of your silent subs over the last few months. Think we have been through your entire back catalogue of videos and really enjoyed them. We only live on the Devon/Cornwall border and hugely enjoy seeing you making the most of our little part of the world. Also we share a trying for a baby nightmare with you guys. After 5 years we finally got out happy ending. Really happy/excited for you guys. Keep up the good work. Glad to see your subs going through the roof.
Hopefully see you cruising the rurals of the southwest soon.

Loving the van build, and great to see you working it out (with help from your dad ;-)
You need a sticker for the back door - no tools left in this van overnight!
Good to see your cheerful thumbs up ... do watch out for the temptation to cut corners with the jigsaw / safety. I'm not great at this but have all digits and only a few scars ...
Good luck to you and Kate, I hope all goes well and you adjust to your change in sleep patterns, not to mention the extra responsibility ...
I have used expanding foam 'plasterboard' adhesive before - after it not sticking I re-read the instructions - making sure the surfaces were damp, then waiting until the adhesive formed strings was the key ... so if you find unusual instructions on glue, it could be there for a reason! I guess sound deadening needs to be stuck properly to do it's job, so maybe you can get time to drive the van before and after fitting it to make sure it has made it a bit quieter
All the best with your build, especially after it becomes a lower priority!

    • @LoveSundays

I don't know why all these camper floors seem obsessed with battening the floors to death. Maybe I'm wrong but being in the building trade people hane what's called a floating floor, tounge and groove chipboard laid directly over insulation board. The insulation board has excellent compresive strength and when laid over with interlocking flooring the load is spread. I might be wrong perhaps 25mm insulation board doesn't have the compression strength but we will find out. I'm planning on using 25mm celotex adhered to the van floor with pu foam adhesive covered with tounge and groove osb3. I plan to sand the osb then finish it with floor grade varnish. The floating floor in building work in a house would be min 100mm insulation and 22mm chipboard. My van will be 25mm board and probably 18mm osb but I think it will be fine.

Hindsight being 20/20, when you were vacuuming the floor or putting the tape down you should have started from the corner behind the driver's seat and worked your way to the back. That way you wouldn't be tracking dirt from your shoes in where you'd already vacuumed/taped.

I love watching this coming together, wonder what the recycled plastic bottles insulation looks like as my duvet & pillows are all filled with recycled plastic bottles, very soft & warm & resembles down filling but without the cruelty.
Look forward to seeing you soon but possibly a while after the baby arrives by the sound of things!

We've got little legs and we have a collapsable step that we put down to get in and out of our van.....

Glue and screw batten's is the best practice. If the glue fails the floor will move
