Beautiful truck man! About 30 years ago I rebuilt the same year only it was 3/4 ton, '66 C20 Fleetside like yours as well. We sold it when our son was born, needed some cash but I damn sure plan on making another, and video's just like your series is firin' up that passion once again! Sweet truck and great series!
Thank you Thank you been beating on my original spindles not moving seen your video and found out about bar connecting to tie rod got that off and was able to get spindle off. I swear you are only one to mention about thr bar. I thought was built into spindle like new ones. Thanks again
Charlie, good Video and its, cool you admit you forgot cater key !, you sound like me my lower ball joint I had to cut it with a saw zaw ,it would not let spindle come lose hey keep up the good video ,your teaching me !
@@Akbrwn cpp modular spindle. It’s designed not to widen the wheelbase like other drop spindles do. Only downside, it’s not made to mount a dust shield to it.
I see you went with the CPP Modular kit. Can you explain what benefit the modular kit has over their OE/Upgrade kit? Will be tackling a front disc conversion on my '66 6-lug soon. Haven't watched the rest of your video(s). Do you happen to cover master cylinder & proportioning valve / hold-off valve selection and installation?
Modular drop spindles don’t push the wheels out like traditional drop spindles. Down side to the modular spindles is there’s no mounting for dust shields. Yes I cover the master cylinder in the next videos. I went with a manual master and a adjustable proportioning valve. I like the setup and have no issues with stopping.
@@Chickeneyegarage I watched episodes 1-4. Appreciate you sharing. Gives me a bit more confidence as I move towards my first disc brake conversion. I called Summit and CPP today. Summit said all kits increase wheel spacing (track) by 3/8" (excluding the Modular). CPP said the OE and Upgrade kits keep the same wheel spacing (track) and that the Modular actually decreases track by 1/8". So, IDK what the heck to believe on that. I'm leaning towards the Upgrade since that kit is based on the '73-'87 dimensions. Where the OE keeps the '66 dimensions. I'm not sure if the '73-'87 design provides better performance, but I do understand that '73-'87 parts are more readily available. With the Modular, I guess you could go to larger diameter rotors at some point in the future (would necessitate 17"+ wheels), but I'm not sure that is a selling point for me. Appreciate the further input. Thx
Can you just use a pickle fork to separate the ball joint instead of beating it to death? I’ll be doing this upgrade next year, so just wondering. Nice video.
Yes you can. If you plan on replacing the ball joints then use the fork. My ball joints are new so didn’t want to damage the rubber boot. Both ways are effective
The modular drop spindle doesn’t have a provision for mounting the dust shield so it doesn’t come with them. The reason I went with modular spindles is that they don’t push the wheels out like regular drop spindles do.
do you have part number or link to disc brakes and calipers? are they CPP? Asking becuase I bought a CPP kit and was wanting to do with the wheel vintiques you chose.
Charlie ,did you have to change your center link? My tie rods, fit the new spindle but to small for my center link,do I need a inner for a 66 c20 ? Please adivice
I did a little research and it looks like they make c20 drop spindles. Otherwise you will have to convert everything over to c10 steering and suspension.
Modular drop spindles don’t have mounting holes for dust shields. Would have to use standard drop spindles if you want to run shields but they push the wheels out and I didn’t want that.
It’s a cpp kit part number 6370swbk-6. Sorry my video wasn’t helpful to you. I try to improve my videos as I make them but sometimes I can’t please everyone. If you have any questions I’ll help you out the best I can.
Great job guy, bet she's looking & stopping good !

Nice ride, buddy!
Thanks
Nice upgrade. I'm getting ready to do this to my old Impala. Thanks for sharing and New Subscriber.
when you first put that cover on I thought to myself "wait your forgetting the cotter pin".
Yeah I got ahead of myself. It happens
Thank you for the video. Question, i noticed the brakes were semi engaged when you rotated the rotor, does that go away when everything is set up?
Estoy en Mexico. Donde puedo conseguir el kit de actualizacion?
Charlie I already have a,20 disk spindle ,I think I need to order tie rod end for a, 66 C 20 stock
I have never installed floating style caliper. Do you not grease the slides?? Also good call on the curve on the brackets I would have missed that.
I think I added a little bit of grease but I don’t remember now
Which spindle did you use? Did it narrow the track width? Or widen the width?
Thanks

Did you have to make any changes / adjustments on the inside of the cab (e.g. pushrod)? Thx
@@briancarroll6526 I don’t remember but if I did it wasn’t much

Thanks for the video, how’s the ride with air bags and did you do that as well?
I think it rides nice. Check out my previous videos on the air ride install
Hey,that set of disk brakes, you didn't have the dust plates, behind the rotars, did it not require any?

Yes it’s cpp. Part number CLP-6370SWBK-6
Did you use shorter brake hoses when you did conversion?
I used what came in the kit. I didn’t measure to see if they were longer or shorter
Charlie ,did you have to change your center link? My tie rods, fit the new spindle but to small for my center link,do I need a inner for a 66 c20 ? Please adivice
If you have a c20 I would say it’s different. There might be a tie rod sleeve designed to incorporate the two different tie rod threads.
I did a little research and it looks like they make c20 drop spindles. Otherwise you will have to convert everything over to c10 steering and suspension.
Great video
Some I wanna do to my 66.
Sweet!
does the caliper scrub inside the rims ? i had this clearance issue
No issues. If you were trying to use the factory wheels they won’t work. I went with wheel vintiques series 62 and they clear stock style calipers.
Did you put dust shields behind the rotors to keep the seal from going bad?
Modular drop spindles don’t have mounting holes for dust shields. Would have to use standard drop spindles if you want to run shields but they push the wheels out and I didn’t want that.
Did the caliper brackets come with spindles???
Yes it was apart of the kit
Do you have a video on cupping your lower control arms?
No I had someone else do them for me
are those aftermarket rims? I was told that stock rims rub the caliper?
Yes. You can’t use the factory wheels. Watch the my video before this and you’ll see why
23:40 um what were those two gasping moans? Lol
Those are torqueing moans lol
Do you have a part number? From cpp?
CLP-6370SWBK-6
Bought from summitracing
You where a little late to explain that you need a jack under the lower control arm for safety and the spring
I guess I have to guess what conversion kit you are installing. Someone said how informative your videos are. I find that as not to be true.
