wow. Thank you so much for this! I'm helping my son with an '89 Suburban, and it's NOT a k series, like most of the tutorials assume. The brakes are exactly like your C10. This and an old Corvair video are so far the only ones I've found that are exactly like ours. Its nuts... Thank you again, so much for this.
Thanks. I took apart my 71 C10 brakes a while back and didn't really get good pictures and your video made it possible to put em back together. Thanks again!!
I noticed something that may be of help to you and others later on. I'm putting brakes on my '64 C-10, using new AC Delco drums. They did not have the obround brake self adjuster hole punched out, just an indentation for it. For whatever reason, GM didn't put access to the self adjusters on the backing plates like they did on later model ones, so you have to remove the wheel to get to them. Eventually, you'll want to remove the drum to inspect for brake wear, and if the shoes have created a ridge, those drums are going to be difficult to remove unless you loosen the self adjuster to release tension. I recommend punching that indentation out on the drums so that you can get access to them. Otherwise, you might end up with a stuck drum with no access to release the tension.
Have you made a video on adjusting parking brake cables? After replacing shoes and drums on rear the emergency brake is slightly engaged on driver side?
Hi I am working pmi am working on a 1965 greenbrier van. Your u tube showed s lot. I barely saw the pivot under the front shoe. Do you know where I could get a diagram without the axel in the way?also the rear shoe connections? Thanks you are the first I found that showed it right Thanks o really need the help Mike!
The C10 is not in the shop right now so I cannot check, My recollection is that when the two cables from the drums come together the union is threaded and you can tighten or loosen the length of the connecting cable.
After watching this video, I now know how to do my rear brakes on my 1966 C10. Thank you for taking the time to provide such a detailed explanation.
That is great. Good luck with your brake job.
Great video! Thank you for not going so fast that we have to pause and rewind a bunch. Beautiful shop too!
Thanks for the complement , it makes making these videos worth the trouble.
Good breakdown. I've done the front on my 65 a dozen times, this was a good refresher before I rebuild the rear.
Great!
Great demonstration, best I have ever seen !!!!
That comment makes me really happy. Thanks.

Thanks, my 98 silverado has the exact setup you saved me alot of hassle.
I'm glad the video was of help.
thanks for uploading! I'm working on a 66 c20 and your videos help out a lot
Great. There is a whole series of videos on the C10

I am thinking my parking brake may need to be adjusted due to adding new shoes and drums.
Tried setting parking brake, already tight?
Have you made a video on adjusting parking brake cables? After replacing shoes and drums on rear the emergency brake is slightly engaged on driver side?
I have not made a video on th EM brake cables, sorry
I found the drivers side drum is tight and the adjuster is all the way in? The primary brake shoe on the driver side is to the rear?
Not being there I cannot tell you why it is tight, but it should not be. Yes the primary(larger) shoe goes to the rear.
Great video! Helped me out alot!
Thanks.
Those self afjusters never work when you want them to. I just adjusted my rears on my 1970 Z/28. I like your shop.
Good looking drum brake.
Thanks
great video thank you

Mike!
Where did you purchase your brake spring rebuild kit and brake cylinders?
Very good video
Thank you very much, glad you liked it.
What’s the chances that the adjuster is not for a 1965?
Where do you adjust the emergency brake?

You have to do every little thing where it can be seen! So now I have to find another video.
I didn’t realize that the self adjuster hardware was separate until after I had thrown all the old stuff out. 😂
Were you able to retrieve it?
Been there and done that. Only once though 😅 Live and learn. I hope you enjoyed your project.
You didn’t put the spring on for the self adjuster return lever. Self adjuster will not work without it.

5:50. A nail holds your brakes together, I have used actual nails to hold my brakes together, not my proudest moment, but still....
Some times you do what you must to get by.
