  • In this video we are looking at a vintage inspired watch, the Invicta 1953 34334 that pays homage to the First Rolex Submariner from 1953, with the reference 6204. Enjoy!

    Here's something:
    Zodiac with their Sea Wolf, and Blancplain with their Fifty-Fathoms, first introduced their dive watches - the very first commercially available dive watches - at Baselworld in 1953.
    Rolex, that same year, showed ONLY a prototype of their yet-to-be named dive watch - it was not yet named Submariner.
    It wasn't until Baselworld in 1955, that Rolex made available their dive watch for commercial purchase.

      The Rolex will be passed on to your kids and maybe your grandkids. The Invicta possibly not. The Rolex will hold it's value over it's lifetime. Toy can get thousands for one if needed to be sold. You might get $50-100 for an Invicta. They might look good, hit that's about it. Big watch? Get a Gshock. But it won't be designed by Jason Taylor. 😱

    Did I hear you say that you didn't like the Black Bay 58? Thought I was the only one!! 🤣
    I work in a small shop in a rural town and I see more Invictas than any other brand, so they must be doing something right. Not my style, but watches like this are important as they get many folks into mechanical watches, and I'd much rather see any mechanical watch adorning someone's wrist than one of those awful smartwatches or fitbits!
    Interesting to see you review something different.
    Cheers 👍🏻👍🏻

      Agreed.
      I've bought a couple of Glycines post Invicta.
      The quality hasn't changed a bit.
      The pricing's been a bit unstable, which is OK - I bought an Airman Purist 42 ᴀɴᴅ a Combat Sub for under $600!!
      I like that Invictas ownership = more variety in the range and l like that all the pre-Invicta classics are still being made and don't look like they're going anywhere...

  • @bondpit8750
    @bondpit8750 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Very nice forthright review. Excellent camera work too. If you don’t mind, what are you shooting with? Your macros are stunning! The “vertical ring” is called a rehaut, or flange in English. I think rehaut is French and seems to be the more widely used term by those in horology. I prefer the clean design of the ‘53 but find it ironic that Invicta is widely criticized for their engraved case branding on some of their models yet now Rolex is engraving the rehaut ring with multiple “Rolex” branding on their Submariner. Lastly, I think the thickness of the Invicta ‘53 would be less if they used a solid case back rather than a display back. I think you are correct in your value assessment but would pay more for better lume, and anti-reflective sapphire. I like the watch. Subbed!

  • @rogerauclair1670
    @rogerauclair1670 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I have the original black bezel version of this watch and I like it very much. Invicta has brought out an Invicta 8926BRB which is basically an 8926OB with a sapphire crystal, I hope that they might do the same for the 1953. Most of my automatic watches have the Seiko NH-35a movement and I would much rather have this calibre than a slimmer, almost certainly more inferior non hacking movement.

  • @andrewmain8022
    @andrewmain8022 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The San Martin manages a thin watch with an NH35 in their 6200 vintage diver which is a homage to the Rolex 6538. The crown action and beat rate are also similar to the vintage Rolex with the NH35 movement. Had Invicta used a solid caseback then I think that they would have managed a thinner watch. As you say, the Invicta just falls short of a really great watch. I look forward to your modding video.

    I just picked this up on Invicta website for 59.90.
    I have been very judgmental about Invicta and their propensity to make ridiculous looking timepieces.
    On the other hand the Pro Diver autos generally look good and are a great value.
    The coke bezel with the understated watch face is wonderful here.
    I’m of the belief all dive watches are really homage to a great degree. They all bow to Rolex, Omega and a few other legendary manufacturers when it comes to design and style.
    I have no problem with that as I doubt I will ever be able to drop $15k for a timepiece.

This has a wider dial size compared to submariner model because the bezel is bit wider and the slope of the opening case from the glass to the dial is steep compared to the submariner models.Thats why it looks a bit thinner compared to the submariner model. the bazelis also very smooth compared to the submariner model.
