I have two different phases at night for this. One for recreation where I rest, eat, watch some TV, basically relax and do things I enjoy. The other phase is right before going to sleep, preferably 1 hr before, where I turn off screens, don't get too stimulated. I can read a book, meditate, listen to calming background noise like rain, thunder, etc. A warm drink maybe, a blanket, just make myself gradually sleepy so I actually want to sleep and do fall asleep when I go to bed. Works wonders.
Hi Julia! Proud Shifter here ❤❤ I actually have had a bit of trouble not falling asleep but staying asleep. I sometimes go to bed quickly right after work and only would stay asleep for a couple hours. I wake up with my thoughts racing. I am wondering now if I was not taking the break you were talking about and not giving my brain a chance to sort of calm down after the night at work and so I would wake with racing thoughts and struggle to get back to sleep. Now, I try to stay up longer after work and allow myself some time to relax after work before just going right to bed and I have been sleeping better and longer. Also, I love prayer and focusing on my breathing. These help me get to sleep a lot. Thanks Julia! ❤
you showed up on my YT as recommendations last night! i put your videos on "play all" and i was finally able to go to sleep!!! not because you're boring, but because you somehow brought calm to me. thank you! i did order your book off amazon today. i look forward to reading it.
Parenting gurus tend to tell you that you need to have a bedtime routine for you kids to help them go to bed more easily. The same holds true for us adults as well. Since developing a bedtime routine, I find I fall asleep better. I also keep a notebook by my bed to write down things my brain won't let go. That has been a life saver. Sometimes you just have to get up and do the thing that your brain won't let go of.
Hi Julia! Senior Shifter here! Love this video and I can’t help but to think perhaps my recent submitted question for the Q&A in the Shift Society may have inspired you to do this video. =) I like your idea to write down things on sticky notes if it is more like a reminder to do or pick up something! I know I should cut down on screen time. Here is a good tip: If you still want to need to use your screen at night, there are settings (At least I know on Windows PCs) You can use a night light setting and it basically gives you warmer light and it isn’t as bright, but if your device does not have that, you can always adjust your brightness as well. Here are my notes: Give our brains some transition time (Not screen time):
20 -30 minutes between screen time and pillow time) Put on relaxing music (Calming Classical) Deep breathing Mindfulness Exercise Doing some yoga (stretching) Reading Prayer (gratitude, blessings, requests)
If your brain is still going (Still have ruminating thoughts)
Brain dump (Dump out whatever thoughts you are having. Write it down or type it) Use sticky notes and write it down and post it on mirror.
*Alternative* Use CBD Oil (helps calm the brain)
To everyone reading this - remember that you are worthy and valued. ❤
Chrisdigitalartist. Thanks for shareing all of this very helpful I have anxiety before bed and I have problems falling asleep and staying asleep my mind doesn't stay calm or relaxed at night I struggle with negative thoughts good you was here haven't watched Julia for a while but this video really connected with me hope you are well 🙂
Great video. A brain dump is a great tool to use. My problem is not really falling asleep. I usually fall asleep easily enough at around 11 pm, but then I wake up at around 2:30 am. I then lie there (not lay there, BTW, lol) for up to 3 hours. Then I fall back asleep and wake up at about 6:45 am, but I do not really feel all that rested. To lie, I lay, lain (intrasitive irregular verb). I am lying down in my bed. I am not laying in it. To lay, I layed, layed (regular transitive verb). I am laying something down. I am doing something to an object. The object on its own will now be lying there, where I have layed it. It is now lying there, not laying there. Two different verbs. If you wake up with a great insight, maybe record it right away by speaking into a recorder, instead of writing it down. The mouth is quicker than the hand after all.
The title/description of this video drew me in. Some helpful tips there but I'm probably looking for solutions to get sleep during times of extreme stress (e.g before an exam, a job interview or a major assignment - different scenario). In the past sleeping tablets have been a risk I was willing to take (in low dosage) but even this has typically proven not very effective. I've tried relaxation exercises before but usually end up lying there and feigning sleep until morning.
Hi Julia. Shifter Debs here. Having difficulty sleeping most nights at the moment. I missed the ABCBO last night as had about 3 hrs sleep the night before so fell asleep!! I have realised I need to try and find ways to switch off so thanks for some ideas. ❤️
Julia Kristina. come across this new video from about 7 days ago and this video I can really understand and relate to this because it happen s to me I have anxiety before I go to bed sometimes I can't seem to feel calm or relaxed at night I have negative thoughts going though my mind I find it hard to fall asleep and sometimes can't stay asleep hard to shut down my mind but I have been listening to some audio s of relaxing soft voices and sounds that sometime helps your videos are always so helpful ❤️
I only feel anxious when I know what's going to happen the next day... but before I was dependent on meds just to get some sleep because it was recommended to me by my therapist. I was actually made fun of when someone else knew my condition. I didn't know what was so funny for being anxious in sleeping. I just realized that their lives must be so damn good that they could sleep soundly without feeling those emotions. When I stopped using it, I felt better. But there are moments I'm still anxious so I just work and keep myself busy, cry myself to sleep until I can finally fall asleep without having to be dependent on meds.
I know and am sorry that this is TMI. But I had my first real relationship with a guy I loved and cared about ( still do ) I destroyed it with accusations, reactivity, being hurtful etc and they eventually left.. 3 days later I got them back but we were just commited rather than relationship status for now.. I obsessed daily about this and it drove them away further. Asking daily when they’d wake up “ are we safe? Do you want someone else? When are we calling it a relationship again?” Then I did something even stupider drunk and showed a friend something private between us.. I sent countless messages to him and that the door is always open and that I miss him and love him.. Do I need to leave it up to the universe now that he may or may never come back and ask to see me?
Hi Julia, I have trouble sleeping (on and off) for about a year and I have tried different things, it has been better these days, but I was wondering how one is diagnosed as severe insomnia? Is having trouble sleeping for a year a symptom of insomnia? I have considered seeing psychiatric and getting sleeping pill but I'm just not sure if things are really that serious...
Hi. I work nights, 5 nights a week. Been having trouble falling asleep & staying asleep. Lately been waking up early & ruminate about my relationship w/ my BF. I have sleep apnea & use a CPAP. I am really drained by my lack of sleep & inability to shut my mind off. Any tips?
my problem that i sleep really fast eny where it so embarrsing i hat my self for that i dropped colleg for that i sleep during lecturs during tests i sleep nt knowing how i slept
That "brain spinning" that keeps people awake is what we called mindfulness when I was a Buddhist. Mindfulness ain't so great when you don't know what to do with it, is it? While I don't advocate Buddhism any longer, if you can learn mindfulness meditation the PROPER WAY, it will be a massive help to you. The best things I've found for sleep, however, is sexual intercourse or masturbation. I try not to masturbate anymore, personally, but it's better than man-made substances.
I mediate for about 10 minutes before going to bed and I cuddle with stuffed animals (yes I am at this time 21, even adults can sleep with stuffed animals). For me personally if I can't fall asleep is either because I didn't exercise enough or I watch too much paranormal videos and need to calm my brain down.
This is Mischa Bakaleinikoff and I totally avoid Conflict all the time! Don't want to disappoint people's feeling but the first one who doesn't want to dress like a Prostitute on Santa Rosa Ave. But like a Relationship or Cruise one day sounds cool 😎!
Classical music?! No no no no! This is literally the era of ASMR! I listen to ASMR every night and also at all times when I sit with my computer with in ear headphones. I always have one or even two ASMR videos on the background, while studying, writing or even when I watch videos/movies plus a soft waves sound (pink noise). I prefer ASMR with no mouth sounds or weird lip smacking. I like No talking ASMR or very soft spooken ones and I usually put them in faster playback speed. Also no, mukbang is not ASMR. Please give ASMR a shot if you havn't yet. Even if you dislike one ASMR video there are literally thousands of others, you will eventually find ones you like!
