Great! I just paused this video to go fold the incredible amount of laundry that has been laying around for over a week. I´m obsessed with watching TH-cam videos and it keeps me from doing functional, important tasks. I´ve been a terrible procrastinator for as long as I can remember 😐
I stopped my procastinating back in January and have been kickin butt since in my counselling studies! What helped me, was buying my own planner soley for studying. I planned to study 5 days a week CONSISTENTLY small actions, planned for next 3 months what my goals were for 3 months and then narrow it to goals each month, then narrowed it down to what I would do for the week (reward system including treat if successful on personal study goal for the week and stickers (cute pretty disney ones and gold star stickers! I am 31 haha) for each day studied, which meant when i looked back on my month i saw how many days i studied.) I then reviewed and reflected each week and started small actions per day before long I had the habit to study knowing my routine :) its helped massively. I realised that i thought i needed motivation to get me out of it, but motivation was the outcome from not procastinating. Hope this helps!
Thank you Julia, for your book and all your videos. No one has ever been so affective and effective in communicating and touching on my deepest thoughts, feelings, and struggles. You have helped me alot changing my life in the most positive ways. Thank you for all your hard work and your most helpful perspective for living a great life.
Another one you can add is to imagine living your final hours of your life and reflecting on the goals/dreams you did not accomplish and imagine the feeling of wishing of going back and doing it but it's too late. This is more of a difficult but no less effective method
"Perfectionism is more often than not an overcompensation for a deeper sense of shame." Wow, that is a thought that blew my mind. Never considered that such correlation (or even causation?) exists. You are awesome, thank you :)
Procrastination is a nightmare, so it's nice to have a reminder of not being alone. It often feels like everyone else is productive in their lives, along with having a feeling of being completely stuck.
I’ve been procrastinating a lot. I had a traumatic childhood (my mom, dad, grandad, brother and uncle died when I was 9-14 yr old.) I’m turning 43 at the end of the month and with all that trauma and other things that happened to me, I survived. Right now there are kids going through what I went through now. So I want to start a channel to help them grieve, give them a place to talk and have a helping “hand” in their time of grieving. Plus I want to use the channel as a kind of therapy for me. Telling them what I didn’t hear (and needed to hear) when I was their age grieving. I know why I’m procrastinating, but I don’t know how to get over it. It’s my worse case outcome. I’m worried that I’m going to say something and someone takes it the wrong way and they end their life.
Always fearful- have had Anxiety for years- Procrastination has been my default when I feel overwhelmed.. Thank you for this wonderful video- I will re-read your book!
Admir Barucija. it's really good to see your name here its been ages sence I see your name how are you doing lately how's your mental health? Hope your ok
Depression has a part in this kind of behaviour. This is one of the signs of depression. Cuppeled with isolation it gets worse. If one lives alone it can be a dubble whammy. Having no one at home to communicate with leaves you freed to indulge in all the negative behaviours. All these little issues are symptoms of a more serious problem.
Every word rings true. Thank you for making your insights so easily relatable and real. Not an easy task I'm guessing, and it will gave taken such an organised brain to do it. Thanks for capturing it all with such clarity to give us many useful tools. 👍
Thank you so much. I really want to play and perform my music. The challenging part is letting go of the need to do everything perfect. Charting and mapping this out and being gentle on myself is key. I really really want this. Thank you for this video, gonna watch more and gonna get your 📖 book🐈
This was so timely. I'm in my final 2 months of a Counselling Psychology degree, feeling overwhelmed with the work load. I've completed stopped drinking alcohol, eating well & exercising but I'm permanently exhausted. Your advice is excellent thank you.
Hi Julia! Shifter here! Great video as always! Timelt again! I just happened to finish the last chapter in your book today it was the same topic! For me, even just creating a To Do list can feel good checking things off during the day. That is one small step that I can do. Here are my notes: • Procrastinating is avoiding pain. (Too hard, too long, too difficult, too hard to maintain.) • How do you get what you want and be able to be persistent during tough times? (Put away distractions. Focus. Put away phone or notifications) • Be mindful of what is making it harder for me (Get rid of them) • Classical Music can help you stay focus (baroque music) • Think about why you want the results. What are the reasons. • What is the outcome I want and what is the action I need to do today. • Imagine your future self to visualize what you want (or journal it) • Put together a schedule. (Pop in the deadlines on a calendar) • Having a plan. Break it down to smaller chunks. • Eat the frog ("If you eat the frog first, everything afterwards will teach so much sweeter" - Mark Twain) Do the harder (or avoid the most) stuff first. • Reward yourself for following though. (Celebrate and recognize that "I am proud of myself" "Look what I did." "Good for me.") • Take breaks. *For those who procrastinate because you need everything done perfectly, (leave it to the last minute to make an excuse if you don't have the outcome you want. Protecting yourself against shame) Allow yourself to make mistakes and mess up and don't make it personally to you. You can fail and not make yourself a failure. To anyone reading this - remember always what a worthy and valued person you are. You are worthy and deserving of love and belonging. ♥
I love Love LOVE your book, I usually hate reading books other then documentaries cause there just so boring most of the time but your book has little work points in it and I love those points because it gives me a reason to really think about what I just read which as someone with ADD will help me learn and remember what I read better.
Great wellbeing topic Julia. It's what I'm doing with a current issue and couldn't see why I can't move through it and I'm feeling so stuck. Thanks a million. Keep doing the good work, it's helping in so many ways, your the best. Your the President of the Shift society. Take care of yourself and your family aswell Julia.
Just spoke to a friend a few minutes ago about procrastination! The universe is certainly sending me a message! I have been procrastinating to start the workshop for sometime.. Thank you Julia for your pointers!
Hello 👋 Rusty, shifting gears; When you are able to remove the fear and angst/anxiety from procrastinating you actually have the capacity of doing a lot more. Essentially, you literally are creating more time for yourself to get whatever is presently 🎁 taking up precedent. It gives you flexibility between work schedule, versatility with unexpected, and reassurance in routine. If you can slow your mind and your body down enough to a calming point (not necessarily calm 😊) then you can diversify your circumstances, behaviorally, psychologically, and emotionally 👍. All of us, present company included, 🤭 , have or will at some point ☝️ procrastinate. I do so on purpose to give myself enough time to think, process, introspection, plan, act accordingly if and when it's necessary. Thank you Shift Society and Julia Kristina Counseling TH-cam channel and especially... Drive Your Own Darn Bus for being my rock. ps: hi babe 😘 🙏
Julia, you are a true gift to the world. Having your videos play continuously all the way through to the end is AWESOME! I’ve been listening to your videos in the morning to start my day. In the past I’ve (admittedly) fallen asleep. I feel now, I’ve gotten a handle on staying awake through the entire video of yours that I’m watching (in the morning). Thank you for writing your book as well! I’m starting to read it and I’m thinking of also getting the audiobook so I can listen to it while doing something else that’s a “mindless task”. Any thoughts? I’m also waiting to get into the shift society! So excited so I can get in!
Wow, I so needed this especially this morning especially the season of my life. Thank you. I am trying to find the link to your book I don’t know why I can’t find it
My Adhd brain feels this. Overriding the deficient dopamine receptors is like max procrastination x10 level hard. Still not sure how to override it since the typical advice doesn't work on executive dysfunction very well. Basically, i've noticed you have to get the dopamine fix to satisfy your brain to then do what you need to do. That either through joy or fear. The eat the frog task is where the tips stop working - so for the NDs out there, do the opposite and get a small but very satisfying task done first to get the tank full and ride the dopamine high - maybe that's eating the cookie first or cleaning the space first or invite someone over so you have a stressor to get the stuff done. Good luck my 🧠 friends 😁
my words can't help me to fully express my emotions about this video, but as always you have a unique way to deliver your msg. I think it clicked this time for me, and i hope to comment here again when reaching my goal. it'd take long time but i will try to comment sooner. thanks from Egyptian dreamer ❤❤
Your video was extremely enlightening to me! Thank you. With listing projects and all the tasks. I know scheduling them to make it easier to work through the project in a manageable way. Looking at all the tasks and all the projects feels like an overwhelming ocean, even with the scheduling. Do you focus again on the outcomes? Recite them over and over until you are not looking at the long list and only looking at the tasks for the day? I literally feel ill.
1- put away any distraction like social media or candy and play some brook music for focus. 2- remind your reasons for doing the task to be done to your brain remind the outcome and actions you need to do 3- visualize yourself with the result you want to get and feel proud . Like health friends 4-do the schedule have plan and due dates and block off times for actions every day 5-imagine you are in you dead bed and think about the way you could have lived your life and things to experience 6- break thing in small chunks 7- eat the frog do the things you do not enjoy first. 8- reward brain and yourself for following the plan so accomplish and celebrate and always take break and enjoy the process 9-perfectionism is the ego protection of shame. So it make you to leave it to the last time to be set for rejection and then you say I did not have enough time

I think some times procrastination results from learned helplessness. Check your childhood. The cause might be there.
Thank you very much I was tinking the same I’m going to look for help
Never think that you’re not good enough.
My aunt Janet is procrastinating going to the doctor for her hip Julia.
I try not to procrastinate Julia because I just want to get right in and do it.
I reward myself Julia.
I'd like to watch this video but I just can't seem to get around to it.
Might have to. Some bus services have been cancelled. :(
I pace myself Julia.
Are the numbers supposed to be in the title?
OMG I have a bathroom I need to paint. Every time you seem to hit on what's going on with me. LOL my entire apartment looks like a thrift store or tool shed exploded here because I have been "Getting ready" to do but never really DOING anything.
Put marker on your wall where you need to paint so you get bothered enough to open the can 💡
My question is how many mess ups and failures do you get before you are one?
I thought that I have been procrastinating and needed to watch this but the 6+ minute long intro made me realize that I'm wrong. What the issue of someone who prefers when people go straight to the point?
I know your busy, but cou!d I ask you stuff about book writing,And well

Possible to do a future video regarding comparison to others?

I don't have ADHD but I have CPTSD and I think I procrastinate out of learned helplessness due to my childhood and a narcissistic mother.
