Anton did the classy thing by offering redress straight away and copping his penalty sweet and trying to apologize to Shane. He clearly was never going to get his car turned safely going in for the lunge on that last corner but did what he's paid to do and had a go. I love SVG but he needs to calm the F down after a race. Not as if Anton done the Mostert on him
Unpopular comment. SVG did not want to redress therefore gave up the win in my opinion. I am an SVG fan BTW. Chose a non-racing decision and looking to play the rules.

Everyone saying SVG threw a tantrum...I dont see it. The guy was super professional and level headed in that interview given the situation. And while that move at the end was controversial, at the end of the day its not illegal and shows Shane's high racing IQ.
And btw you cant handle a little panel-to-panel without seeing red, you probably shouldnt watch touring car racing.

Anton would have crossed the line before Shane anyway,so good on him for trying to right the wrong but it was to late to redress.What Shane did was clever,they're 1 and 2 in the championship, and if Shane can make Anton miss out on points it puts Anton further behind,it's why they always talk about Shanes racing iq!

This was great racing. Even if anton did let the redress happen, Anton was over the finish and would of been penalized for the hit n run incident either way, It's unfortunate but that's just what happens in racing. Great job to both of them. Shane was great yesterday and held it out on today too. No matter what happened at end I think Anton would of been moved back either way, Since he had already passed the finish line. And DJR had such great pace, For will to go from front of grip to last then to 7th? amazing job.
If he gave the spot back why would there be a penalty? You can't just stop on track 🤣
@@cinqpower the redress rule isnt an offical rule anymore, but anton already crossed the line so it would of counted as a bump n run to gain unfair advantage. That's why he got the 5sec penalty

For sure. Shane puts others on edge whenever he's on for a move, pushing them out of the way and cutting across anyone who tries a move on him. Personally I think Shane is dangerous.

It was a gamble. Pass him, no penalty. Don't Pass him maybe he drops further down the grid meaning less Championship points and a bigger championship lead. Worth a shot.

The mind games SVG plays are awesome. Everything he does is coldly calculated. He was clearly teasing Anton at the end of this race, and he knew that if Anton did something unsportsmanlike, he was gonna get penalized. SVG was "safe" due to the fact that Waters was like 14 seconds behind them, so there was plenty of time to recover. This is all due to the fact that, although Feeney is fast, he's not as fast as Davo and Anton, so the Team's Championship it's at stake here. Davo and Anton are gonna be top 5 and on the podium pretty much in every single race (along with Shane), but Broc doesn't have that consistency yet, so the advantage in the Team's Championship eventually is gonna go the way of the Shell boys again like it was a couple of rounds ago.
If Waters was a little bit closer at the end, Anton would've ended up in third, hence losing more Team AND Driver's Championship points! SVG not only is a freaking fast driver, he's smart also.

Bar his aggressive approach to the sport, SVG has only really been impressive since Scotty and Jamie left the comp, when you have a better/out right quicker driver in Scotty Mac and a better strategist in JDub, no longer showing their ankles, the next best will naturally shine. Sad to say even as fellow kiwi race enthusiast, SVGs accomplishments will forever be in the shadows of Scottys and JDubs.. Just wish he had a consistent challenge in the field!!
SVG has this ability that other racers don't...he doesn't just steer the car every move is calculated and that's what I like about him.

@@XeKToReX0 Redbull had the far superior car all year in 16, it was Shane’s to win, from memory JDub came second about 200 points behind, and then next was Scotty in a Volvo (a bloody Volvo) around 450-500 points behind.. If you considered my opinion to be that of someone that has no idea that’s absolutely fine.. Whatever helps you sleep at night, but objectively SVG was just never good enough to out do neither JDub or Scott.. It’s a numbers game. When all three drivers were on the field together, SVG won 1 , MCL won 3 and JDub won 3. Do the math.
That move was never going to work in a million years but at least Anton gave it a go, gave us a meme ending to what was a somewhat dull race

SVG has mighty racecraft and was smart enough to try and milk it for a bigger penalty. No issue with that .. Anton was never alongside and it ended as it should.
Anton only did what SVG does all the time except SVG turned in on him & didn’t give him racing room.... then not taking the redress really shows SGV character

I always take the Red Bull cars out of all the races as non existent and line the other cars up how they come home. To me supercars have stacked the cards in Roland Dane and Red Bull favor
How can you expect people to be interested in your sport, when the do nothing to promote it ? I usually find out about an event on the following Monday. A late night highlights package don't cut the mustard. But, to be honest, I think the tracks are not spectator friendly( you can only see about 200 meters of track, at best) cars are ugly, most of the drivers are genetic, due to the governing bodies sterile approach to bad press, with fear of losing sponsors.
American coupes wont fix anything. The 6 and 12 hour races have been much better to watch, with different body styles, and classes (with obvious speed difference), it's much like the Bathurst of old.
Seriously, 500 miles (804.6km) for 'Series Production' (stock road cars), 1000 km for 'Groupe C' (modified road cars), 30 years on and 'Purpose Built Race Cars' should be doing 1500 even 2000 km, Supercar my arse.
Drop a 'Touring Car Masters' body over one of these floorpans, then you'd have something to talk about.

This sport was for the blue collar workers and now we are not allowed to watch it unless we pay money . They ruined the sport when they put it on pay tv . I used to watch every minute of every event when was on free to air .

Surely Shane refusing to redress means he gave up the win. Anton makes a mistake, tries to rectify it and Shane doesn't give him the chance to.

Know you're trolling but I'll bite. It's the last year for Gen2/COTF chassis regs so it would have made no sense to try and fit the Camaro body onto the current chassis for what is only going to be a few months. Also Chev/Triple Eight and Walkinshaw didn't want to be embroiled in controversy the same way Ford and DJR Team Penske were when they first introduced the Mustang.

He sold bulk of his shares to his daughter and Whincup alongside giving up his team principal management role also to Whincup. Dane is the non-executive chairman of Triple Eight's GT3 program alongside being a member of the FIA Touring Car Commission board.

I must admit I wasn't exactly impressed by what happened, but last corner lunge was always on the cards, as they are racing drivers. regardless, Anton knew he screwed up and had presence of mind to pull up his car for the redress. I just think that Shane should have driven past and taken the flag. Anton would possibly still face a time penalty but at least the redress would have happened and race would have finished, for want of a better word, 'fairly' even considering the last corner mess. SVG, who I'm a huge fan of his driving skills in so many disciplines, could have played it differently, as a race car driver, and still have won, and not have finished it as a points strategy play. Just sayin. It just didn't taste as good to me as it should of....

I don't understand how I can watch pretty much the exact same thing hundred's of times over with a lot of different driver's and there is none of this contact and commentators call it good sportsmanship because both drivers do the right thing. As far as I am concerned it looked as if Anton was a bit hot but I would think he would have pulled up in time but VG shut the door completely I noticed Shane's front passenger side wheel was nearly on the ripple strip so what did he expect to happen. In good sportsmanship he would have just gone past Anton but seems certain people in certain team's feel they are a bit better than all the rest even know they were not good in other teams. I was just watching Scott Mcg and Wincup at Adelaide just before I watched this race and 3nd to last corner Scott could have shut the door and didn't he probably felt it to be to risky. He got second anyhow because Wincup made a mistake at the last corner. It seems to me Shane thinks he can bump people at corners and try fit down the side of people and they should let him pass but when people do it to him he gets {what did he say to angry to talk about it lol}.
The question here is this. Is a 5 Sec time penalty the "usual" penalty for this situation?
What I'm getting at is a longer time penalty "normal" and race control just applied 5 sec in response to Gis not letting him redress.
DePasquale tried to redress. If SVG was a decent driver, he would have taken the spot back, but he's not so the governing body decided not to effect the placing as nothing really happened.

What does "redress" mean? Like did De Pasquale not let him drive by?
Pretty sure it just means giving the position back. De Pasquale tried to slow and let him by but Gissy tucked in behind him and forced the penalty
Redress means to give the position back, which Anton tried to do. Shame didn’t go past as to get Anton a time penalty hoping it would be more than 5 seconds so Anton falls back more than 2nd place so he gets less championship points. It guaranteed Shane the win and the possibility of Anton getting less points.
If it were opposite SVG would have been given the win, because De Pasquale doesn't spin as he can actually drive a car.

When was the door open?he hit him in the rear left proving he was no where near enough, did you wat h the race at all
So a front lock up and slide into the car ahead, spinning them because you braked to late now equals "Left the door open"?
There are very specific rules around what is a "pass" for the car on the inside of the corner. They must be in control of the car. They must be up to at least the B pillar of the car in front to have the right to the inside line. Anton failed to do either of these things.

Van Gisbergen is lucky they gave it to him. Could have easily said that if he doesn't want to win on the track given the opportunity, that's his problem.
But it was an absurd punt, so it probably deserved a penalty regardless of any attempt at redress. Redress is for shortcuts, or minor taps into a spin. He T-boned him from a hundred metres back. If it hadn't been the last corner of the race, there'd have been a good chance of doing race-affecting damage there.
Being boring, it's probably the right call from the officials but it would have been hilarious if Van Gisbergen had thrown it away.

Why he got what he deserved
Best and smartest driver in the Championship ... Gets hit at the final corner and was smart enough not to let him redress ... Should have been a longer penalty which could have cost him more positions hence less Points in the chase for the Title ... Not Sulking... Just a real Smart operator SVG ... Always thinking the long game ... 🤫
SVG would have done the exact same thing if the roles were reversed…. Throwing a temper tantrum about it on live TV is just pathetic and shows how childish and feeble minded SVG really is, he showed his true colours and its not a nice look

What a weak penalty
Fine in my book. Without the move it would have finished that way. If he had taken SVG out completely or he had lost more places the penalty would have been more severe. The punishment fitted the crime in this case.

If the incident had happened earlier in the race, Anton would have been given a drive through penalty. What’s the difference? Penalty should have been 30 seconds minimum.
because had he not done that they were guaranteed those positions anyway. but mid race theres a lot more that could happen and you're messing up more of their race, if that makes sense? thats one way i see it
