I'd like to see a Nascar driver do a guest drive at the Bathurst 1000 in a V8 Supercar and see their reaction after a few laps at speed around that place. They'd never be the same again😂
Let’s not forget SVG is also used to sitting on the right side of the car and not the left. That had to be a huge adjustment, and I heard they somehow moved his shifter so he could shift left handed. Kudos for Trackhouse.
Awesome drive by Kiwi Shane. Yes, he has driven plenty of street races, but not sitting on that side of the car, with under floor aero’s and paddle shifts. An amazing effort. Also, it would be great to see Kyle Larson back in NZ for speedway next summer. Shane drove the NZ speedway circuit last summer. They could have a re-match. Was always great seeing Kyle at Western Springs Speedway. Could always talk to him between drives, usually in the hot chips line!
To be fair Shane is in his element on a road track and these guys are in their element on the ovals And this is where Shane would struggle But so good to see him enjoying racing something different 👍👍👍
Shane has had a lot of experience and success driving Supercars on on these types of street circuits here in Australia but I believe the real test of his skills will come when he races on the banked ovals of Nascar racing. I think he'll do well and look forward to seeing how he goes. Good luck Shane!

NASCAR guys got snookered bad. Loved watching this guy simply blow away the locals. Only remaining question is who will sign him when he comes back. My money is on Tony Stewart and Ford.
Proud to be a Kiwi right now! Truth is...I am not a SVG fan but know an amazing drive when I see one...this was classic SVG today...but I still never expected him to win! This performance today was not unlike anything we have seen in Supercars...the ovals would be the true litmus test in my opinion. The fact that SVGs NASCAR victory headlined the sports news here in New Zealand tells you all you need to know!
Headlined even here in SE Asia... Not SVGs biggest fan, but he did impress and actually looked very relaxed and comfortable with the press for a change.
@YuriGoofov I didn`t think he was a chance for this race...I guess time will tell. If Dixon and McLaughlin can do it in Indycar then SVG is capable of giving it a crack in NASCAR. Just saying ☺
It's not even just the fact he won his first Cup race, but the fact he did it with this team. Raikonnen can't finish higher than 36th in this car. I don't want to call him an underdog because he's obviously talented beyond belief, but again, to do it is this ride is monumental for NASCAR.
Awesome comments from Larson there, really like his attitude. Van Gisbergen is absolutely right in his element in these cars on street circuits with his experience from V8 Supercars. Was a really great showcase of what this new car is capable of. I'm learning a lot about Shane, and he's quickly becoming one of my favorite drivers. I had the great fortune a couple times running in practice sessions in iRacing with him at Belle Isle and got to experience a tiny bit of what its like to see that guy in your rear view mirror charging hard, haha. Also love Kyle Busch's comments there, like "nah, this guy is incredibly experienced and way ahead of us."
Yeah it was a win for SVG & NZ, but it's an even bigger win for NASCAR. The NASCAR series organisers took a gamble in holding this event but the publicity & interest generated by this race has been incredible. It will greatly benefit fans & race teams alike.
SVG was the best thing to happen to that race. I was excited for him to work his way to the front time and time again and win. And the fact that he's on the "wrong side of the car" and shifting with his opposite hand than he was used to.....WOW. Props! Rest of the race I was kind of disappointed but you can't defeat Mother Nature.
I think one of the real reasons nascar struggles the way it does is because of the lack of older talent. Every team is looking for the next young guy to come in and start winning. That’s cool and all, but it’s harder for older fans to relate. Remember when the sports had an older more diverse talent pool? I do. Now there are so many new guys all the time it’s heard to keep up. I really really wish Dale was still here. The sport would be much different that’s for sure

Super respect to these guys for the respect they have shown...hugely generous and big time sportsmanship !! But to be very fair it would be good to see them head to head on an oval and see that outcome.
These guys, full respect to them, they raced very hard in arduous conditions and put on a mighty show out therem Nascar should be proud of all it's drivers in that race ....what an event that turned out to be. ....And yeah we got to witness a freak in SVG.
I think Shane was awesome on a street track but at Watkins Glen and Ovals it will be a completely different story. 🏁I do think NASCAR allowed upgrades on this car from Lemans 24 car! Flip the switch!! Lets send a CupDriver to V8 Supercar🏁🏁
The respect from Larson is REAL. That says alot. Looked like an interview after Larry Bird put on a clinic in the NBA. Dudes were in awe. Let's give some credit to Haley too. !st time he's ever been on a street circuit.
As an Aussie sprint car fan I rate Larson as a freaky good driver, so him heaping praise on SVG is high flattery for Giz. A lot of people in Aus are going to have to bite their tongues now, after predicting all sorts of doom and gloom for SVG in his NASCAR race
I coukdnt believe my ears and eyes! Had no Idea SVG wascin this bloody race! Amd overtakes in the twisties after the chicane! I guess they had a chance, but not much of a one. 😂
Shanes a gun driver here in Australia in the Supercars. But theres also plenty of other guys here that would make the grade for sure. Maybe time for a Supercars/Nascar one off race maybe 15 of each
As an Aussie it was great to see SVG win & the respect paid to him by the other drivers... yes he was in his 'street element' vs Nascar drivers first time, but he was also driving on the opposite side of the car & changing gear with his right hand (compared to RHD Australian cars)!
@@JohnnytempistNascar isn't a one trick pony. Nascar cup series is mainly an oval racing series, and they only do 6-7 road/street courses. The rest is various (even dirt) oval racing which the series focuses on. Shane is also a 3x World Champ in similar equipment who benefitted from having much fresher tires when they decided to cut the race short by 25 laps. This is also only the second year for this Nascar car package that is so similar to the Supercars. Before, the tires were much bigger and the suspension was a lot different. The Nascar drivers have nothing to be embarrassed about at all. They were beaten by an EXTREMELY talented driver with more experience and a tire advantage. Btw, Nascar owns IMSA.

@@BlynkWRLD yeah, but excuse does not make it acceptable to bullshit us or himself. It probably was the tyres that allowed SVG to pull away like he was. Point is he was pulling away, not having 2nd place "hold his own".
As an Aussie who watches motorsport SVG has been Supercars champ here in Australia just like Scott Mclaughlin was before he shifted to Indycars... Hopefully we will see SVG move full time to Nascar in the next year or 2...
I’ve been watching NASCAR since the 80s. It was sad to see them start messing up in the 90s with the generic tri-ovals. Then Dale died during all that. Then you had the Mayfield thing, then the Brian France problems, NASCAR buying other series’ and homogenizing them. It’s been fun to see NASCAR recently start to figure out how to become relevant again: road courses and awesome smaller ovals. Hopefully they’ll keep it going.
The comment about him being used to heavy stock type cars around street circuits is partly true. However, having seen him win SRO gt3 at Silverstone in a McLaren, knowing he does rallying & drift cars, the guy is one hell of a driver in any car.
The cars SVG normally drives have similar amounts of power, similar rear suspension design, and similar gearboxes. The guys been basically driving the current cup formula for years and a lot of it was on street courses.
I really believe how SVG drives using the clutch and heal toe technique even though he doesn't have to helps get rotation into corners. That extra level of control and rotation really helps along with it helping you break a little better.
I was watching SVG’s onboard camera the whole race, and he was definitely getting the car to rotate more in the mid corner. There were several corners, lap after lap, where he was squaring up the exit, driving straighter off the corner instead of drifting all the way out to the outside wall. By getting the car more square, he could get on throttle earlier, and it helped him avoid some of the painted lines, which are a death trap on a wet street course. He was also gaining a lot of time in the downhill braking into T7, again by squaring up the exit of T6 and driving a straighter line down the left side of Balbo Ave.
@tonystewart7287 he does not need to in my opinion, because I know I can't even move my feet and ankles like that if I tried. The heel-toe thing is very hard for me. I use the anti-stall clutch in iRacing and other sims. I can drive a stick and in a real car, it might be better at it. On the sim, it is just not Intuitive enough for me to sync up with and not me shifts.
@albinorhino6 exactly man that's what I am saying. I know using the brake and throttle can help you sorta get the car to turn if your doing it right. But that also slows your down and burns tires sliding. Using the clutch and different gears for engine braking helps naturally slow the car down and rotate with out just sliding the tires. It's so much more controlled rotation. He is a Championship driver who flew to Amerixa and schooled the NASCAR guys at home.
As an Aussie, we are used to seeing the best of SVG. But I just want to give a complement to the NASCAR guys for being so humble in their responses to the media. Sportsmanship at its best I’d say. Great work guys.

@@flamingfrancis I started following the CanAm series in 1967. My first race at Road America. Had the pleasure of meeting the "Bear" (as US media called him) in 1969 while helping a McLaren mechanic bleed the brakes on the M8B he was to drive. Great career with McLaren. CanAm, Indy, F1.
What a fantastic family Nascar is... These guys feel real genuine in welcoming a newbie to their sport.

It's great that NASCAR allow outsiders in to have a go on their playground, SVG is a road course master and probably has more such experience that a lot of the real NASCAR blokes. Be interesting if he goes full time NASCAR, I think that it would benefit all.
🇳🇿 🇦🇺 Shane is a driving legend. Watch out world 👍
Quite exciting.
he is a master a true champion
He's out of contract at the end of this year. There is an option with his current supercars team for 2024 but I think he'll end up in nascar full time next year. Noone here has the money to compete with what he'll be offered after today's performance.
I still hurt a bit that Haley missed out on a playoff spot, but that's more a stink against the playoffs rather than SVG. He put up an awesome drive, and as someone that wasn't a fan of the Chicago Street race idea, he definitely put on a good show and better racing than I'd expected from this race. Good for him, hopefully we see more of SVG in NASCAR!
You don’t see this level of honesty and humility in most forms of motor racing. SVG is a special talent. He’ll go all the way in NASCAR. He’s a natural driver. Won’t be long until he’s winning on the oval tracks
Love NASCAR getting all this national coverage. More races like this and drivers like SVG is exactly what the series needs to get national AND international coverage
Some people say I was crazy to say that nascar manipulates races to steal the headlines, and your comment just made my comment come full circle.
@@RollerCoasterLineProductions NAH HE DIDN'T DRIVE HIS ASS OFF AT ALL THO RIGHT EVERYONE JUST LET HIM ON BY SO THE OUTCOME CAN BE MANIPULATED FOR VEIWS !

Humble honest guys. Cheers from Aotearoa New Zealand.
What a respectful group of gentlemen these 3 guys are. Fans could take a leaf out of their books. Such humility and respect. I just became a fan of these guys and the NASCAR gig.
Actually they are wrong when they said he came in and beat them at their game. This was HIS game and they were all new to the party. Haley did an awesome job! I was really impressed with him.

He cleaned up in supercars.
I wonder how he'd go in indycar or F1 . . .
I love the way Americans don't deny somebody their glory. If this was the other way around, i think there'd be a lot of us Aussies making excuses or trying to cut him down somehow. Full credit to the Yanks for speaking positively about SVG in this situation. Class.
Humble speaking from all and Shane’s words, “I’m sure if it were an Oval, it’d be the other way around”. Kudos from all drivers and I’m sure you (Americans) can learn a lot of Street circuits and I’m sure he (SVG) can learn a lot from the Oval tracks. Great race. From an Aussie.
With Shane's drift and sprint car experience I'm looking forward to seeing him on the oval tracks .
He's be awesome here in Australia so I'm happy for him to venture forward.

great responses to a new guy ' I've been a fan of Shane for a few years now and expected him to do well as he is way above his competitors in Australia in driving talent ! but I'm am very impressed with the humbleness of the three gentleman at the microphones in this interview , well done to all cant wait to see Shane on a big fast open oval
What a great bunch of guys, very generous with their comments, nice to see and hear.
SVG is the complete package. Awesome race. Great win. Go Gizzy!!
Soon as knew he was racing already knew he was gonna win ! Have been watching V8 Supercars since it was first shown when we had Speedvision in Canada My 1at kart number was 888 !!
People aren't mentioning that not only did Shane beat everyone, he also did it in a left hand drive vehicle when he drives Aussie V8 Supercars ( right hand drive )!!!!
That was definitely great racing yesterday and congrats to Shane for winning the race congrats to him.👍
I'd like to see a Nascar driver do a guest drive at the Bathurst 1000 in a V8 Supercar and see their reaction after a few laps at speed around that place. They'd never be the same again😂
Let’s not forget SVG is also used to sitting on the right side of the car and not the left. That had to be a huge adjustment, and I heard they somehow moved his shifter so he could shift left handed. Kudos for Trackhouse.
Amazing win but don’t forget Shane races street circuits…let’s see him at talledaga bump draughting
Great sportsmanship displayed in these interviews. Great to watch ….. in wet weather conditions.
It was a great race Those drivers are fearless, all of them.!!
I’m glad he’s getting the recognition he deserves. When him and McLaughlin started racing V8s a decade ago, we all knew they were a cut above
To be fair Shane is in his element on a road track and these guys are in their element on the ovals
And this is where Shane would struggle
But so good to see him enjoying racing something different 👍👍👍
He has won in a Sprintcar. He will be decent eventually on ovals
His after race burnouts are just as good as his races, especially when he’s drifting the whole track it’s AWESOME
Shane has had a lot of experience and success driving Supercars on on these types of street circuits here in Australia but I believe the real test of his skills will come when he races on the banked ovals of Nascar racing. I think he'll do well and look forward to seeing how he goes. Good luck Shane!
As an American, I really wish Supercar was more easily accessible here because I love watching Shane drive and its cool seeing him and Scott show us how to drive. I remember watching his Bathurst Pole lap in like 18/19
I wish so too! I’ve been really interested in the Supercars series and love watching the highlights but it’s tough to watch a full race
Me too... I hate having to rely on race highlights to see what happened.
Supercars used to have decent coverage in the states but no more. Its a shame since the racing and variety of tracks are great.
I have a subscription to their TH-cam membership and they stream everything
@shmeeve good to know, I'm going to have to look into it. As much as I enjoy watching races that occur in the US, I also enjoy watching some of the race series overseas. I'm grateful for the fact that GT World streams on TH-cam for free. But I'm seriously gonna have to look into streaming for Supercar.
Yeah that's Shane. He dominated in supercars, formula Ford and pretty much every race he races.
SVG was just so smooth. Great talent.
NASCAR guys got snookered bad. Loved watching this guy simply blow away the locals. Only remaining question is who will sign him when he comes back. My money is on Tony Stewart and Ford.
I love how the other drivers talk about Shane. So much respect
I want to see NASCAR come to Australia and race Bathurst!
The Nascar drivers keep it way more real , suits Shane better
Kiwis have rich history look at McLaren, McLachlan, Ambrose the list goes on
@@andymills2985 Ambrose is Australian?
@YuriGoofov
True not a chance in hell...
Wow!!! For a bunch of fighters who takes no prisoners in racing, you guys are super, super humble!! Thank you for giving the praise where it is due.
School was in session and Shane was the professor. Of course Busch couldn't admit that he got schooled. lol
Best televised Nascar race ever!
Best coverage, best location, best photography.
And to have an "outsider" win was great also. History.
Lets goo my brother much love and respect from Australia 💪💪🍻 take note nascar thats how its done plenty more ass kickings to come
Yeah it was a win for SVG & NZ, but it's an even bigger win for NASCAR. The NASCAR series organisers took a gamble in holding this event but the publicity & interest generated by this race has been incredible. It will greatly benefit fans & race teams alike.
Big win for Supercar US fans have now heard of it
SVG was the best thing to happen to that race. I was excited for him to work his way to the front time and time again and win. And the fact that he's on the "wrong side of the car" and shifting with his opposite hand than he was used to.....WOW. Props! Rest of the race I was kind of disappointed but you can't defeat Mother Nature.
Wow! It looks like NASCAR might be worth watching after all🤯
I think one of the real reasons nascar struggles the way it does is because of the lack of older talent.
Gisi is a gun.he was born to Race.if he raced pigeons he'd win that too.But hearing the other drivers giving him the credit for his racing loved watching and even felt embarrassed by being shown up by the new kid in town haha on ya Gisi.geez sounds like a Hollywood movie.
Awesome performance by Shane 🤘
i love watchn this, to most down under, Shanes the GOAT.
Super respect to these guys for the respect they have shown...hugely generous and big time sportsmanship !! But to be very fair it would be good to see them head to head on an oval and see that outcome.
NASCAR + street circuits = excitement plus! Bring it on
Wow now a nascar fan .great performance and respect allround
Tires were also a big game changer for SVG, Elliott's tires were almost 20 laps older.
Great sportsmanship by other drivers that was terrific way of presenting the result of the race congrats on your story ❤❤❤❤❤❤
These guys, full respect to them, they raced very hard in arduous conditions and put on a mighty show out therem Nascar should be proud of all it's drivers in that race ....what an event that turned out to be. ....And yeah we got to witness a freak in SVG.
SVG put on a freakin' clinic. Savage.
He did his apprenticeship racing cars in Australia and he was regularly beaten. We have some very good drivers here.
@@timjohnun4297 we here in NZ were more optimistic...
Big respect from the Yanks, love from Aussies!
I coukdnt believe my ears and eyes! Had no Idea SVG wascin this bloody race! Soon as I heard his name mentioned my first thought was how are these guys going to beat the best in the world at this type if racing? He races V8 Supercars at Bathurst! Amd overtakes in the twisties after the chicane! I guess they had a chance, but not much of a one. 😂
Shanes a gun driver here in Australia in the Supercars.
But theres also plenty of other guys here that would make the grade for sure.
Maybe time for a Supercars/Nascar one off race maybe 15 of each
That would be an incredible watch
As an Aussie it was great to see SVG win & the respect paid to him by the other drivers... yes he was in his 'street element' vs Nascar drivers first time, but he was also driving on the opposite side of the car & changing gear with his right hand (compared to RHD Australian cars)!
its always been the greatest debate when NASCAR fans say they're skilled drivers. Well, we've answered that question. love from down under.
Its a street race, relax. NASCAR isnt a street series.
@@AsylumSaint so they are a one trick pony over there?
@@Johnnytempist We have seen this same song and dance before. Ask Marcus Ambrose and Juan Pablo Montoya if there is a difference. Its just the way things are. NASCAR is an oval series. Its not rocket science.
I think we have shown that drivers from down under are far better road racers and even dirt racers too.
I'm a big SVG fan, I've never watched a full NASCAR race before, but I watched this entire race more than twice. I watched the onboard camera of Giz, I was impressed with Kyle Larson. SVG passed him and then Larson followed in behind passing everyone until he got to P4...I'll be watching more in the future, Larson is now the man I'm following on NASCAR!!

No mate, you did not hold your own on the green/white/checkered.
SVG was pulling away from you lap on lap.
Not much class shown from him, my car this, his car that…. blah blah blah
He did have older tires than SVG, and you gotta give him credit. He started last after wrecking in practice, had 20 minutes of simulator practice and even helped wrap his car overnight prior to the race.

His win caused me to look at some Supercar races. I am now a fan.
Let's see what SVG will do in Daytona
The comment about him being used to heavy stock type cars around street circuits is partly true. However, having seen him win SRO gt3 at Silverstone in a McLaren, knowing he does rallying & drift cars, the guy is one hell of a driver in any car.
Add sprint cars to that resume as well.
He has a reputation of driving anything
Shane shocked the Nascar world including me wait a go Shane you blew us away!!!
I think nascar just gained a whole heap of followers from Aus and NZ.
Your lucky to see that cos he doesn’t allow a foot camera in his Supercar to hide his technique 😂
Very gracious from the nascar boys - great sportsmanship. Hats off.
Yeh i thought that to liked when Giz was doing the burnout down the front straight and Kyle Larson was giving him a big thumbs up as he went past.
Congratulations Shane. Master Class.
I won't be surprised if Triple Eight will launch a new team in Nascar.
Penske could launch a 4th team, Trackhouse could go to 3 full-time.
888 won't even come close to the amount of money he'll have thrown at him from the US teams
Don’t feel too bad. Shane doesn’t hold back, if can pull away from you he will. He’s a racers racer and thrives in the battle.
Cool to watch. I'm sure he'd be schooled on an oval, but on these street/road courses, he'd be hard to beat.
Decent on an oval. He has won in a Sprintxar
Dam how humbling these guys are, you would never hear this in Supercars, to many bitter egos
