I think he would adapt pretty quickly. Looking at his iRacing stats he does more oval racing than road racing and his win percentage this year is 45%!
I know simracing is a different sport, but I have a story that I still believe is relevant. I've had the privilige to join a few private iRacing sessions with SVG and some of the top drivers in the world and I remember a practice session before the 24h at Bathurst where SVG and Verstappen, who as we all know is one of the best simracers in the world, were pushing each other for hours. They were both miles ahead of the rest of us (I was nowhere). Every time Max was faster, Shane would push even harder and beat him, until Max eventually had to give up. Now, Shane wasn't even racing in the 24h race! He was just beating Max for fun!
He is exactly the same in real life. He doesn't seem to care too much about what others think or expect. Every time he is in the car he just wants to go faster than everyone. No matter the car or the competition. He is a master of his craft and perhaps the most talented and hard working driver ever. A pure old school racer with new school skills.
