      I would love to see a running excel sheet of all the amplifiers you've tested. Every new amp you test you add to it. Showing the rated and tested output power at various loads, efficiencies, and cost at time of test.
      At the moment I am looking to replace my old ass JBL BP1200.1. It's having an issue where it shuts off when it runs "too hard", and has been getting worse and shutting off at lower and lower volume levels.
      So yeah having an excel listing specs and features would be awesome to see from you.

      @@donaldjackson4456It's also possible that the transistors and capacitors they are referring to are only used on their 4-channel class A/B amps and not the class D monoblocks.

    Big D - can you review a relatively cheap, decent, 4 channel or 5 channel amp? I don't need to drive 4x20 inch subs, I just want to make my 6.5 inch Kickers sound better while I enjoy my jazz and classic rock! Budget Gem hasn't posted in a long time; your buddy HiFi Vega hasn't tested a 4 channel amp in a long while. There is SO MUCH CRAP out there it would make Dick Rickulous cry!

      The down 4 sound MM504 is $115 right now. 4 channels, listed at 50x4 at 4ohms and does well over it. The MM1004 is $150 and listed at 100x4 at 4ohm, and also does well over it.

    Thanks for testing these and pointing out the internal components... I wonder if they cheaped out when they went to online direct sales and just didn't change the box and literature. I have the 2ch Power Class A/B amp they made just before these (very similar to the SoundStream Reference Series they brought back). At the time, they hoped they would bring a revival of the old school series back... They tried to keep them dealer only, but unfortunately it didn't pan out that way. I remember reading a thread from a high level employee stating that if people weren't willing to pay the dealer prices and insisted on online price wars that they wouldn't be successful and they would be discontinued... Unfortunately that's what happened. My amplifier is brand new, I've tested it to verify that it works. I've heard a lot of amps, and my class A/B Power Series sounded amazing to me... I would love to send it to you for testing because the whole Power Class and SoundStream Reference revivals were always interesting to me.

    Thumbs up to Precision Power with the design of this amp. Love the good looking faceplate protecting the adjustments from other people who "know better" than you do, and as soon as they see a button or a knob they gotta touch it. lol. I have to say I'm very interested in this amp now. It may not have quite made all the rated power, but for the price still pretty good. A little concern about heat dissipation, but a little modification and adding a fan would help. this would not be the first amp that would benefit from doing such a procedure. As I think every amplifier should come with a built in fan, and would benefit from one especially for long term use/durability. And if it sounds good then hopefully a decent buy. Thanks Big D!

    Derek! What the hell did you do! This thing outpowers both the amps I had before, combined! 😂 The sheer power it puts out is incredible! This is going to cost me my subs!
    For reference, I got a 1987 Mk2 golf, alternator only puts out 90A (which is an upgrade from the stock 45A) 95AH battery, and a competition class 1F capacitor.
    Ive got 2 Hertz subs, both 350WRMS. One in a closed box, the other ported.
    I had 2 amps, 1 for each sub, and it was loud. But since they're 4 ohm (single coil) nominal, power output wasn't great.
    Now, I've got this amp powering both subs in parallel (measured 1.6ohm at the amp) and MY GOODNESS this thing has some POWER now!
    Voltage DROPS FROM 14.7 till about 13.8v in the back, on full blast, so that's not so bad.
    This is why I keep watching you. I was waiting for a gem like this to be reviewed by you, so I can have a more efficient setup.
    You da man, Big D! 👊🏻 Bass on!

      Exactly.
      For this amount of money it's a great deal for someone starting out. Not everyone needs a 3K amplifier and all of the cabling and labor that comes with it.
      Yeah it sucks that it didn't make the claimed wattage but you will never hear the difference between 900 and 1k watts during music.

They’re the red box poly caps. The 700.4 125x4 @4 Ω is 205.00 on Amazon. The 500.4 80x4 @4 Ω is 119.00 on amazon.

    Back in the McIntosh Clinic days one test they ran was distortion at "Rated Output." Most other brands failed as the units could not even reach rated output let alone get a distortion rating at that output. They convinced many customers to buy McIntosh because it could reach rated output and distortion specs in a real world test. Including used units that customers brought in to the clinic. If a used unit did not meet those specs they would fix them on the spot so the customer went home with a to spec unit. Would love you to run that test as 1% distortion is pretty high.

    It's amazing the amplifiers we can buy today for the price and how you can stack them. If you buy four of them you could have four dedicated channels with independent filtering.
    Component level is pro level. You could have five of these and have your system and drivers more dedicated and separated as component level.

    • @MacNifty
      @MacNifty 13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@Underground-Electronic-Music but then you're splitting and dividing power which adds interference. Ultimately all signals should be distributed and separated not processed. That's like Delicatessen processed meat. It's like Distributing power to the city blocks of the neighborhood.
      If you're truly with cybersecurity and then even further on Signal protection. The best systems have at minimal by amplification per 3-way crossover Network channel.
      Rather than do virtual processing you can do straight up separate. So I'm saying you can have individual process signal delivered to each amplifier but you really don't want to mess with the signal feeding your amp.
      It depends there's different issues between the different ways.
      But when I'm recording and I'm running a console or I'm running individual instruments one at a time. I want those signals truly separated and nothing conflict. With cheap amplifiers you can make it better than an expensive system that's consolidated. You can have an amplifier for each band. You could literally have incrementation amplification kind of how we do processing for computing we can start enveloping amplification signals in different ways we could never do before and go back before DSP. DSP is fake world

  • @Brock_Landers
    @Brock_Landers หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    This is the ONLY PPI amp that I have seen perform close to it's rated power. I bought a PPI "1200 watt amp" a few years ago when I purchased an extremely cheap set of Pyle 12s for my Civic when I wanted to get back into the game and it was VERY disappointing. It barely pushed a cheap set of Pyle 12s. I made the box out of 3/4 MDF and tuned it for 34 hz and they were crap subs, but should've sounded decent in that box, but the amp was crap. I sold the box, subs, and a "3000 watt" $90 Lanzar amp for $250 to a kid and he loved it in his Accord. I bought a set of $500 Sundown SA12-D2s with a Soundstream Rubicon Nano RN1.5000D "5000 watt amp" and there's no way, but it slammed my Sundowns and was 1 ohm stable, so I can't complain. However I have ALWAYS wondered what that budget $250 amp actually makes. I still have it, but it fried, so I bought a Sundown SAI-1750D amp to replace it. It's an intelligent amp, so it cuts out all the time, but that's because I don't have the electrical system to support it.

    Wima makes film capacitors, must have been used in the signal path. You are right about the Sanken transistors, they are high powered Bi Polar junction transistors used in the high end audio amplifiers of the bygone era. Electrolytics looks like from daddy shark, mommy shark or KPOP country.

    My apologies for dropping this here but I'm desperately trying to get someone to advise if my Crown xti-4002 would be stable running just the ESL panel of my Martin Logan Quests. I bought them with the xover already removed for bi-amping so not sure how low the impedance can get when run without the 12" woofer.
    Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I just can't seem to find the information out there.

    Nice looking amp and the price is good.
    2oz copper in the PCB is something that a lot of PC mainboard makers state quite often. The MSI mainboard that I bought almost 4 years ago for just over $100 has "PCB WITH 2OZ THICKEND COPPER" listed as a feature. I would bet that many amps built these days also have that, it's just not listed as a special feature.

      They don't make PCB bords with 20oz sorry the most you will ever find that's actually true is 4oz but 2oz is the thickest mass production bord you can get so that 20oz is a typing mistake or just flat out lieing on there part

    Big D, I love your videos and I always watch and support your channel but i have a question, I have a old Alpine Mrp-m1000 class d rated @ 1000 watts rms @ 2 ohms but i run it @ 4 ohms @ 600 watts rms on a old SoundCubed hdsd.2 15 sub in a single first gen Skar Audio prefab ported enclosure with 31hz. Can you run that sub in 1 ohms due to box rise and be okay without something blowing or do i need to keep running it @ 4 ohms until i get a dual 4 ohm 15' subwoofer to run @ 2 ohms with the amp specs🤔

      I'm a daily basshead😆

    • @JasonWW2000
      @JasonWW2000 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This really comes down to how much impedance rise you're getting in your enclosure. Most of the time you do get at least 2x of rise. I don't think it would hurt anything to try it and see what happens. You're going to be pushing your amplifier harder so it's going to draw more amps from your electrical system. So keep an eye on that.
      If you want to know what your actual impedance is you can do it with a multimeter and an oscope or you can try and get a basehead garage power meter.

    I'm always a fan of phase KNOBS over a reversal switch. Never understood the point of using a switch, unless it's in concert with a knob. Sometimes it can be easier to find the most out of phase point with a knob and then reverse with the switch to get you right where you need to be. But never a switch on its own.

    • @MassBoost
      @MassBoost 29 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The Art series amps were some of their most popular (and still are) amps they've ever produced. The took what they had in the AM series amps and incorporated PWM switching power supply that would run from 11 to 15 volts. They added the new AM II protection circuitry to the Art series, and they came out with the new unique smooth heatsink design that didn't have the cooling fins like it's predecessors or every other amp on the market. The distortion rates were extremely low, and they were some of the best sounding amps on the market.
