It pulls so little power that the instructions (and crutchfield confirmed) that you are to power it via fuse tap. Fits under the dash, easiest install ever. Here's the thing. Yeah, it was 180$ on Amazon. There's a whole pile of combo amp and low profile subs available for 50$ less, and larger, and probably louder. But, I'm not amplifying my doors and rear deck. I put decent JBL speakers that took lower RMS in, just because I wasn't interested in going all out with a system again. The pioneer unit is expensive, but it's also adding just enough more low range and sound quality, and isn't drowning everything else out. So in my case, it was a really great option to finish out upgrading sound. I'm saying all this as someone who's had a couple really nice, loud, multi amp systems over the years and generally have high standards for the SQ aspect.

Funny the tuning was around 140Hz, but the filter buttons were at or below it! LOL. Surprised that even with those 2 large amp chips, probably operating in bootstrap mode only did around 10 watts rms into 4 ohms. I was hoping to see the massive power draw using your Fluke remote "amp clamp"! You would have had to wrap the power wire around the clamp twice to attempt to fool the ammeter to get it off zero amps! LOL. That was good.

Nostalgic factor from the 80’s is a 8/10. Some dancing LEDs would have definitely made it 10/10. I’m sure a modern class D amplifier with modern high excursion mini-woofer works blow this out of the water but you have to remember this in the context of early 80s

sounds like a bass harmonica..i love it..
lmao the foam on the cone was literally disintegrating as it was playing its so old lol
It's a good thing that you didn't pump DJ Magic Mike through that thing because it would have exploded. 😅
Magic Mike woulda tore them speakers up
@@jimmymccants770 I know that's right
@@locotrucker46 holy shit..lol DJ Magic Mike...now that's old school bro...much respect lol do you remember Miami Quad? About 8 yrs ago I met a guy from Ga...was a firefighter named Danny. .later found out he was Danny D from Miami Quad lol
I used to go watch magic Mike at electric avenue in downtown Orlando.... I think it was around 1986
@@lancwbrown1970 that's awesome. I bet it was a cool experience.
LMAO exploding car got me good one man good one great video. By the way, you won’t believe this, but my father found me one of those exact systems new in box practically with a whole bunch of stuff from Salvation Army and I was coming back in the 90s when I just started college. Had the matching booster and everything. I always thought it was a novel and I may still have it around the house. I don’t know. I never took it too seriously, I did hook a small boss amp up to it one time just for laughs and giggles
He was the house DJ at one of our first Orlando hip hop clubs called electric avenue in 1986 or so... I don't think he had founded his company yet which was called cheetah records... But the hip hop scene in Orlando was so small back then so that made it a really cool time because we all kind of knew each other
This test was awesome!! Lol. Love this old equipment testing
Cool gear as always you should upgrade the speaker and test again
Nostalgic factor from the 80’s is a 8/10. Some dancing LEDs would have definitely made it 10/10. I’m sure a modern class D amplifier with modern high excursion mini-woofer works blow this out of the water but you have to remember this in the context of early 80s
Thats a sick little oldscool gaget
Hey, not bad at all taking in consideration the age of the "mega-bassss-explosssion-system". Cool to see that!
It would be fun to get on Parts Express and find a nice replacement for it with a nice rubber surround and heck it probably have better specs than this speaker so it would be fun to retest it! 👍👍
Worth refoaming nice little driver ✌🏻
omg this would be amazing for a computer speaker setup!
That booster case looks just like the Clarion OEM amps that came in my '85 RX7 GSL.
That's a cool old school; little box but it needs more everything lol. And yeah as someone commented Parts Express sells replacements.
Loves this one… guys these days have no idea what it took to make bass back in the days
I really want this for my 93 toyota camry
Should put a new model 3” sub in that old style housing, nostalgia 😁
Great video. Funny! Subbed.
I sooo want some of these i miss them so much i had 3 of these in a set the middle one was a mid an they where amazing not really a 12 but was good sounding like the base connon of the 90s
I didnt get the bass boost thing you had id love that alone i bet it makes it even better i got my used at a good will like stire in phx AZ
This small woofer do his job. I can here the difference. First you play only your speaker then with the Subwoofer. No forget. In the 80's don't have the normal speaker so many bass sane your new one...
I like you show that. 😎👍
Thats really cool. I love retro electronics! Unfortunately i gave my old pioneer tape deck, amp and Eq away! And various other electronics. Im an idiot!!!
Once I had two Sparkomatic bass cannons. Almost as good as my grandmas Buick 6x9s. Maybe try a RadioShack sub. Whew.
yeah 1987 i had a cerwin vega 12inch woofer in trunk of my bmw323i E21, at that time there was often a gas tank behind the seat so the woofer was mounted on a square board with aboat a 5 inch hole with a tube that you were suppose to route up to the shelf. Kind of open air but through a tube. Still got an old amplifier on the shelf that was pretty good Rodek R2180A
For how old that thing is, I knew that the surround was either going to be rotted or break apart as soon as it played. 25 watts is low enough and when I saw that the dyno only said 8, I couldn’t hold my breath anymore from laughing.
Not even Dick Riculous could say anything about it. Lol
Surprisingly enough I have a Dodge 6x9 that's supposedly 15`w 4ohms and it's indestructible for my receivers. I've put it through 100w and it still won't blow.
I really think the demo should have been music from the time period. Early 80's and prior.
I would use that kind of music if they didn’t take all the ad revenue when I do. Or get copyright strike. Its frustrating
@@wal2 I bet it's frustrating. Don't let them get you down. Keep doin' what you're doin'! I find it very interesting and entertaining!
