I remember when Precision Power used to be a quality product back in the day. The PPI series and Art series where fantastic.
UMM when was this? as long as I can remember (the 80's) they were always a JOKE
@@chuckholmes2075 All through the 90s.
@@chuckholmes2075Late 90’s art series.
@@Houndzee nope STILL trash!!! THEY GAVE EM AWAY AT Crank it Up contests for a reason! i was always with Alpine, Fosgate, MTX... none of that "broke person" audio shit. I've placed in IASCA nationals so many times buddy. I've been in the game since the 80's. one thing about audio competition. it costs a lot and if you're broke and buy stupid junk you'll always BE OUTSIDE
@@chuckholmes2075your a sheep
I remember lusting after the Precision Power amplifiers back in the early 1990's, but they were way beyond what I could afford.
Those were serious audiophile amps back in the day, now just a sold name.
Yes still have my ppi 2150am from 1992 that was just fully restored. Now to find a use for it.
I had a couple of the ART series and they were phenomenal I miss those amps more than any amp I've ever owned..pure sonic bliss.💪✌️♥️
I felt the same way until I found this channel. Now I see that the "expensive" amps actually did rated power or more. The amps I could afford were, um... Dick Riculous.
I totally agree rhe old school ppi art series were the best sounding power out there. Maybe McIntosh and Phoenix gold could compete back then but those were some clean awesome sounding amps. I had the pro Mos 450 "GOD" amp. That amp was a legend and I still wish I had it. I would for sure use it. The sound quality from that amp was unbelievable. I just wonder how they were able to get such a crisp clean sound back then.
Had Precision Power (or Epsilon for that matter) rated this amp honestly, and sold it as a 1200 watt unit (400, 800 and 1200 watts into 4, 2 and 1 ohms respectibly), it would have been a real budget gem. Also, being strappable, combining two for a total output of at least 2500 watts at a little under $260 is a good deal in my books.
By the way Derek. I saw a Boss amp with honest ratings in the manual. Pretty sure it was the newer Onyx series. Despite having the big MAX number plastered all over the box, the manual it came with had actual honest ratings in it. Never thought I'd see the day
You are 100% correct about that. 800w RMS @2 ohms for 129 bucks would be a perfect for a lot of people.
The internals looked really nice & the power/cost ratio is decent,, but yeah they really need to stop advertising power that your not getting 🫤
I agree completely!
It's a pretty cool looking amp too.
Nice to see Samwha caps inside.. if I can't have a Jap cap I'm more than happy with a South Korean Samwha.. I have 25 year old Samwha's still in spec.
Nice to see Samwha caps inside.. if I can't have a Japanese cap I'm more than happy with a South Korean Samwha.. I have 25 year old items with Samwha caps still in spec..
I'm a bit iffy about the other caps though.
I had one of these, gave it to a friend
I bought one about 6 months ago and let my teenage son use it in his vehicle with two 10’s at 1ohm. He’s getting a good 1k watts out of it, no issues. Can’t complain at 130.00 for 1.2kwatts, only time will tell how long it will actually survive a teenager abusing the shit out of it😂
thats awesome, and if you ever think of upgrading you could just strap another one on there
1,300 RMS at 1 ohm for $130 is still a great deal. If it was honestly marketed as a 1,200 nobody would complain
Precision Power was huge back in the late 80s/early 90s. Loved their stuff. They should have marketed this amp as a 1,200 watt amp (under advertise). Advertise less but over delivered.
Soundstream and PP were BEASTS back in the day. Always put out more than advertised. My guess is this parent company bought them up and retooled them for "me too" products. Sad, but hey, 500-1500 watts for $130 is as good a deal as any.
They bought the name. They didn't buy the company because the company went out of business.
PPI amps never put out more than advertised. This is a fantasy invented by the fan boys. Every PPI amp I tested even back in the early 90s did their rated power or just a hair under.
@drozcompany4132 but they were crystal clear without major fluctuations in wattage output (however they accomplished that one) we always thought that's how they were able to sound so much clearer n crisper than other amps. When having a meter on them they were always more stable without major spikes between notes
My respect level for this channel, I always hit 👍 before I even watch. I know I'm getting what I came for, with a lot of entertainment. 👍✊
Man I had a pair of PPI flat piston 12s back in the late 90s and they were just amazing.
The guy at my local circuit city had 2 15s in an extended cab S-10 with an early model majestic. They were stupid loud.
Precision power made good amps around 1988, didn't they make a Art series?
PPI did make the art series
They did! But I could only afford the basic black amps
All of your videos are great knowledge, even when the manufacturers are outright lying to us, these videos help people to know what they couple up with this Old School Car Hifi!
Run it at .5 call it a day and get way more than the 1800 rated . Looks very solid inside I'd like to see their biggest power series on the dyno.
Had one in the 90's it was awesome. I would still use this style. And thanks to you I know true watts to plan for . 👍
Ive been running this amp on my American Bass Elite 15 for the past 8 months and it hits hard for the price its unbeatable power
Finally you reviewed the amp I recommended it’s only been over a year lol good job bud D
I really really like it for the price! Amazing review!
I've been running precision power atom series on my system for over six years. Starting with the last version of the atom amps and now the new model. I'm running the 5 channel to polk MM 6.5" and a DD1806. I needed something water resistant and compact to fit my build. It's on a pedicab without suspension, being rattled to hell. It's been working great.
I remember Precision Power amps and MB Quart speakers combination was all the rage in the early 90’s
Looks just like the BMAF 5500.1. And puts out about the same power too!
For the numbers vs price it’s 100% worth it if you only have $129 😅.
I whole heartedly agree
Lol..beginners amp
@allenscott5773
There is one in EVERY comment section lol!!!
@@drrckhamilton lol..damn rite
It absolutely is, especially if your gonna run at .5ohm or strap it with another.
Why not just label it as a 1200 watt amp?
Bigger number wins, haha
That is the question. Seems the amp was built to handle the lower ohm loads though
They have an Atom1200 so maybe make this a 1500. Rate it at 500, 800, and 1500. It's still a good deal 130$ for 1500w Korean amp that can run at .5ohm.
I have a PPI amp from the early 2010s that I absolutely love. It sucks that Precision Power has fallen so far.
Good one! Great video
That's a shame, ppi used to be that high end dealer back in the day.
The looks of the Ion series brings me back. You should test those next.
I like how all connections are on one side like Rockford Fosgate.
Hey Derek. Long time viewer. I would love to see other car audio equipment tested and explained how to properly use them. Such as head units and DSP's. Maybe even EQ's. Maybe also look at budget box options.
I remember PPI from the late 90s. They were really amazing. I heard them on my first real system of 2x12w6's (V1) in a Pontiac GA!
Good looking amplifier inside and out. I am surprised it is not hitting it's mark.
I've gotta say, even though it fell short I could maybe get this one. It had some headroom with the lower ohm loads.
Just installed one of these 5 channel version in one of my overland builds last week. Wasnt bad for the price. But wasnt great.
I’m glad consumers have a ton of choices now in the sub-$150 amp space. Unfortunately, many of the competitors have a ton more headroom in that same exact price range. These amps cost a little under $24 to make overseas, so it’s great price for the consumer and great profit for the factory.
I feel like this could still make your budget gem video later in the year. Seems not bad at all other than the rating
Interesting to see that car audio is still a thing given that OEM car systems are SO much better than they have ever been - rather than throwaway systems - you have vehicles with McIntosh, Mark Levinson, Focal, and others -- so nice! But as always - the high end market will always provide value. I had several iterations of systems over the years. I had a love of music not just 'sound' so I got a job at a local high end store that had car audio gear -- blauplunkt, alpine, mcintosh or nakamichi head unit my speakers ranged from a/d/s, mbquart b&w jbl speakers driven by early soundstream, adcom, carver and mcintosh amps... such clean sound. NO -- I wasn't breaking any decibel records -- but -- the sound quality rivaled anything I had or have heard in the car audio world.
i cried a little inside :( PPI was such a prestigious company in the 90s
I still remember Alma Gates and her PPi equipped Ford Bronco, and her holding the SPL world record for some time. I think everybody into car audio wanted PPi gear back in the day.
@Williston Audio Labs. Any plans of testing the new F series amps from soundqubed? I've love to see a test on the F4-4400 in particular. Big power claims from such a small footprint. Great video as always.
Nice review
had some PPI amp and subs back in the late 90s, it was good stuff then. like many companies
the quantity over quality effect happen
They got bought out Epsilona electronics.Epsilon also owns Power Acoustik, Farenheit, SPL, Kole Audio, and Soundstream Technologies.
Great video this amp has good power for the price.
Thanks for watching and commenting!
To the very end crew ... well done D. - Surry Virginia
Well... Bump/dollah ratio is not bad... not for me but it'd be a good first bet for a newbie on a budget IMO.
Thanks as always.
Take it for what it is and its a pretty good value. Plus it isnt a bad looking amp
It saddens me to see a brand that used to be held with high regard miss lead consumers. I remember their older amps and always wanted to try them in a build. Just couldn't afford them back in the late 90's and early 00's. Now they are more affordable but I won't buy something that is over rating the power output. Even if the build quality seems amazing. I want the product I'm purchasing to be able to put out the power it says or more even if it doesn't actually produce it in my real world application. On that note thank you for your videos so it can assist anyone in making the best decision for themselves.
I don't get why they have to keep lying to the public with their bogus ratings. If they were honest, people would respect them. It's a shame that such a great brand from back in the day has come to this. Thanks for the great video, BigD!! 💪🔥
Honestly because a lot of first time buyers dont realize 1200 actual watts is PLENTY enough, they have to feel like they get more.
I like power acoustik razor 2500 amp from Walmart and now that does rated power
I’m looking forward to when you get to test the new U.S. AMPS
Even though it didn’t make “rated” power, it still looks nice and makes a lot of power for the money.
Thanks.
Thanks for watching and commenting!
ive got 2 of them strapped at 1ohm so .5 each and they do great. they may not do quite what theyre rated but really cant beat them for 129 each
Still a good budget deal! Looks good and looks like decent build quality. Only time will tell😅
I hate b.s. company ratings. Just rate it what it makes. That's one of the reasons your channel kicks ass dude
Another thing to ponder- if you have 4 different brands and rate the aame amp 4 different ways for a year and compare sales data? People are STUPID man. Just a thought
Would love to see a test on the 5 channel amps of this brand to see if they are worth using for a budget build
If they had just rated it properly it would be perfect. For the price and the power it does put out, that's a good deal. I appreciate honesty and will buy honesty.
I'd spend the extra $70 & get the STINGER Audio MT20001 , That my friends is a Great Value for the money. Recently upgraded my 25+yr old Fosgate amp to this pushing a 12" Savard High Q . They paired Extremely well
Cool 😎 have you ever tested the PP star trek models ?
They sure made it look like it was gonna do the 1800!
I had some Precision Power 10's back in 2009 that were beefy as hell. Lost them to some shady roommates. Last roommates I ever had.
Precision Power used to be one of the best. Sad that those days are long gone.
Great video but You should bring back and dyno some home audio equipment
I had a power acoustic 1000 watt and it was decent for a 200.00 amp in 2001 but wouldn't work my HX2 12s until I got 800a2 punch
I had a PPI amp driving 2 earthquakes in a BP in a 323. It had the palm trees on it.
I guess you're getting your monies worth but id love to see PPI still putting out higher end stuff.
R.I.P Precision Power
Them as well as many brands are still around but are not reliable anymore; just placeholders.
Lmao at 3600 watts on the box. 😂
I don't see the need for 4 amplifier product lines when they're all kinda the same (on the inside), unless I'm mistaken.
I actually had an amp around '97 or '98 branded "Epsilon". I don't recall the model, rated output, etc., but do recall it being 2 or 3 feet long and over 1,000 watts.
They're just capitalizing on all of the name recognition. PPi was highly sought after back when I was young
what size power and ground you running to it???? the 4awg or did you use some oversized wire with amp inputs / reducers ?
Do it bump doe?
Might be a silly question but does the dyno ohm setting account for the wire resistance?
The cheap amps might be rating their amps with the resistance right at the output terminals with any wire resistance being "the customers problem".
If PPI and Soundstream could have remained true to their original philosophy and quality of the 90's, they would have been a true competitor in today's SQ market. Nevertheless, the price of this amp combined with the build quality and efficiency make it a pretty sweet deal for someone wanting to build a budget daily system while being able to use a name with recognition like PPI.
They should have called it a A1500.1D. If they did, this amp would be praised as a great amp. Like mentioned, for $130, that a pretty good deal!
A really nice 1400watt amp
I know it doesn’t meet the old school versions quality, but since the amps caps are lower temp how would it handle actual play time with subs? Usually you have that test & thermal scan. Just curious….🤨
Hifi vector tested on of these or the soundstream version awhile ago it made good power for price but not rated either.
If you use it like it is a 1200@1ohm I think it's a pretty good amp. If the rating were not inflated I think we would have a better thought about the amp.
I really want to see that power class on the dyno
Other than not being accurate on the output, a decent bargain amp if you're on a budget.
Is it beneficial or necessary to use both power inputs? I have it with a standard amp kit but I'm not sure how I'd connect to 2 powers and 2 grounds.
I have a question? For what a amp lacks in power does that mean the sound quality is better? And what brands are to be trusted that what your getting all adds up in one way or another?
My comment is it passes the low ohm test and didn't clip or fuzz out. Reminds me of the old 94 precision power competing with fosgate. I have a question... please slave the two and see what it does. Pulse at power to both sources in and out. Battery bank the slave also
I own the 1200.1 its a tank, have been using epsilon amps, they have a great design team, out done by the marketing team tho lol
I know it doesn't make the power they're listing, but it's still a great value. And seems stable at low Ohms.
Hey can you test the ds18 g4000.5d,it will be greatly appreciated
Hi
Could you please do tell me the rms ratings at 12.5 voltage please and thanks
Can you try doing a 1k hertz track tone at 1 ohm to see if it meets its rated power. Would be nice to see if at least they tried to hold up to the name
I wonder what the amp draw was at .5 ohms dynamic? just a question:-) and kind of curious what the low-voltage test would look like;)
Really curious about how the current Precision Power subwoofers are, kind find any quality reviews on them.
what a shame. ppi was quality ab goodness that sounded really good back in the day. got good and loud without the loss of control over the sound. call me a snob, class d is fine for bass, but anything above 80 or 100 hz sounds so much better ab. esp at loud volume levels
My MVR expert 1005 gave up on me about 8 years ago. I had that and 2-t1000s for my system. I had no idea where to get the expert repaired and didn't want to spend $2k on a set of newer alpines, so I got the PPI P1000.1 and P900.4 for about $300. Both had the same d-class insides as the Polk, NVX, etc., at the time. They do pretty well, honestly.
But I doubt I'd buy this.
Are they just throwing a stack of fuses on it to make it look mean?
I remember when they launched this line and is sister line (the rubicon nano) at Soundstream in 2015 as replacements for the Power Class and Reference line. Its nice to see that the amo deaign of the Atom (and Im gonna guess rhe Rubi nanos since aside from the heatsink they have the exact same layout) is decent. Though its sad to see thay they are treating PPI and Soundstream like they do Power Acoustik, just slap a big number on the box for the young bass heads. Which is duobly sad giveen that prior to 2015 SS and PPI were still staffed by people thay seemed to really want this brands to live up to their legacy.
Before watching I am calling BS on the specs 🤣🤣😭 These companies are only looking for profit and stiffing the customers smh 🤦🏾♂️ Now let’s roll that beautiful bean footage 😂😂😂🤣🫵🏾😭
I wouldn't have any issues running one if they just rate the actual power. This should be a 1200w amp and I would be so cool with it. I have a Korean made Soundstream nano 4 channel, the white one. Sounds great and it has never let me down. I don't know its actual power but it doesn't seem lacking.
Seems simple enough to me as well
I wouldn't mind buying it if the price stay the same within the next month or so. It just might be a great sounding amp
Real question is does Epsilon make any amp that produces its rated power ????
Id still use this at the price point but it would for a setup that just requires 1k-1.2k @1ohm. at the the price point its a steal. Again brands should market this as what it is, a solid 1200 watt amp. I wonder what the 4 channel can do?
Me missing my 90’s ppi with the vector artwork
That's a nice looking amp, I want one. Too bad I don't have any subs.
I would use my tax return to help you but I had to pay a big chunk to Uncle Joe, I mean Sam
Absolut nice 4 that prize...😊
Epsilon had been making Boomboxes for 35 years .They made big Boomboxes.Remember the Turbo Power Boomboxes? I believe Epsilon was involved with Conion at one time
Or they made similar boomboxes
They made Boomboxes with even Surround sound lmao
Dick Riculous needs his own channel
This is a long way from the glory days of the PPI Art Series that I used to have in the late 90's. I like the look of this one and loved PPI, but wouldn't go there because of the false ratings.
You should run it at 1kHz. Probably closer or better then rated power. But 40hz is more accurate.
