I know. That, and his voice, really irritated me at the time. But now, looking back, I can appreciate the game for what it is. As someone says, this game (and X WIng) *felt* more Star Wars than the Prequels, or many of the other attempts at a game. Even Episode VII wasn't quite *right*, somehow. This game still had that lightening-in-the-bottle quality.
I remember Thrawn made a cameo in one of the books from the Galaxy of Fear series for young readers. He's only a captain in the book, but the cover art still shows him in the grand admiral uniform.
Maybe the uniform is just for the audience's easy interpretation. One can't think of Thrawn well without the Grand Admiral outfit, you know. Must say, though, Rebels Thrawn has the best voice. One of the greatest games ever made in my opinion. Man I miss this game. They really need to remake the classic ninety's star wars games for modern gamers.
Still one of the best Star Wars, combat flight sim, and video gaming sequels of all time. So much so it makes the likes of X-Wing and even Wing Commander feel obsolete. Bonus if one also read The Stele Chronicles (also, X-Wing's Farlander Papers) and the Official Strategy Guides for help and lore.
I still play this game. I haven't beat it yet, but I'm hoping too soon. Best Star Wars game ever (although I love X-Wing too, as well as Battlefront and Empire at War). Has the best plot of any of Star Wars game, and the best missions. I just love it!
I wouldn't be surprised if Thrawn had a message like "Nice try my friend" put into a command viewer right as the ship's cloaking device reacted catastrophically with the hyperdrive.
I believe that Lord Vader gave a pardon to Admiral Harkov's forces and welcomed them back into the Imperial fold in exchange for information about the Rebel Alliance's operations
@Silverknight171 The officers would have been sent to the interrogation squad as they have valuable information with Darth Vader prowling the detention block like Dr House
Wow, I need to get that version! I only ever had the floppy disks without the expansion packs. Serving under Thrawn was the best the first time, but several campaigns in a row?? I've really been missing out!
+BossHossGT500 That is actually a possibility. Lando's copilot, Nien Nunb, is speaking in a native Kenyan tongue---two actually---and that would be a cool group of people to see....especially as a villian, not all cute and cuddly aliens are good guys.
Lame Squadron? You're not referring to the arcadey yet still great Rogue Squadron games, are you? Oh, and wish granted with the TIE Fighter Total Conversion Mod for X-Wing Alliance Upgrade.
I just love it when all the cut scenes hit 10 mins exactly... just nice for youtube's limit for common users. =) Missed those days dearly =( especially when the T/As are kicking my ass in my Assault gunboat =(
Definitely brings back memories. Especially the last mission debriefing: "We await word from the Emperor about our victory at Endor." ...yeah, about that... 😅
Boy do I still miss this game. It was really ahead of its time. They need to make a newer version of it so it can work with the modern Macs and PCs. Gotta love the music.
Such a great game, but it definitely separated the adults from the kiddies...save points? HA! Blow the last five seconds of the mission and you get to fly the entire mission AGAIN! You could hear my swearing for blocks around.
I remember playing either this or X-wing when I was REALLY little(like, 1997-1998, I'm 19 now) and I loved it. These new games, while fun, just don't have the same "oomph" that these games did. I miss 'em.
With Thrawn in command, one Star Destroyer is all you need (and not even that; the ship's an older, smaller Victory-class version in the actual mission).
I just double-checked Wookieepedia, and it's sketchy. Apparently Thrawn switched ships after the battle, from the VSD Stalwart to the ISD Vanguard. Yet the image labels the ISD in the cutscene as the Stalwart. Also, the NL-1 station changed from a Type C platform earlier in the campaign to a Type A for the final mission and cutscene.
Appearance, mostly. The station originally looked more like this: vignette3.wikia.nocookie.net/starwars/images/8/81/Platform3-XWA.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20060319155443
@Orumon27 I think you mean "dumb fire"; blind firing's a whole different animal. ;) Yeah, that was the trick to using space bombs: you want to pick up some speed and get close enough to launch your bombs, but not TOO close to where the cap ship's turbolasers rock your TIE Bomber out of the cosmos. Just launch and turn around when you hit the right range. It sounds like the Missile Boat was more forgiving here; just divert everything to your front shields and barrel at it like Donkey Kong.
And also the sudden release of Enemies of the Empire only for the Collector's CD-ROM Edition. Oh, boy, I won't be surprised if some players were a bit angry that it had to be a, in these times, "Special Edition DLC exclusive".
OMG! I was waiting for someone to post this! I am so happy. I just wish we could have had some views of the INNER CIRCLE! I love the very ending. "Thus it the fate of enemies of the EMPIRE."
Heres one major plus on TIE Fighter: Its is solely focusing Empire. Your main doesn't defect or switch sides

for those interested, the star destroyer bridge at 1:15 comes straight from a production painting by mcquarrie. modified, but it's the same (concept painting, not the actual matte painting used in the wide shot in ESB)
Had to come back here after the debut of the great blue man in live action.
Empire's favorite word: excellent!
The Mandalorian Season 2 Episode 5
"Where is your master!? Where is Grand Admiral Thrawn!?"
Me: THERE HE IS!!! On his way to Coor-iss-Can't!!
Excited!!!
His accent is.... so American it hurts
one of the best games of all time imo. Loved the ways some of the mission objectives from your senior officer comflicted with the emperors.
Ahh Memories. I spent hours and hours and hours and days playing this!!
Takes me back to my youth immediately. Such good times
I love those janky old cutscenes.
Watching this reminded me of a lot of fond memories, especially with the Emperor's Hammer.
My all time favorite game, and I doubt any other will ever come close... *sigh*, memories....
8:47 Palpatine: *sigh* yes Vader I know it’s MY plan
I believe that Lord Vader gave a pardon to Admiral Harkov's forces and welcomed them back into the Imperial fold in exchange for information about the Rebel Alliance's operations
@Silverknight171 I would not wanna be one of those high ranking officers.
No. You end up hurting down and destroy harkovs flagship the Protector
American accents just don't suit imperial officers
+3556df44 I have to believe that some Rebels defected to the Empire as well. Which is why they would have American accents.
+3556df44 I wonder if Episode VIII or IX will feature French, Flemish, Swiss, German, or even Russian accents.
+BossHossGT500 That is actually a possibility. Lando's copilot, Nien Nunb, is speaking in a native Kenyan tongue---two actually---and that would be a cool group of people to see....especially as a villian, not all cute and cuddly aliens are good guys.
Yeah, Harkov sounds ridiculous. That accent is so thick, I thought he was a space hillbilly.
LOL, space hillbilly.
thanks for the video
Wow, Thrawn is even more impressive than I remembered. He can laugh and talk without opening his mouth!
This game deserves a make over with modern graphics, loved playing it!
Instead we got lame squadron
Lame Squadron? You're not referring to the arcadey yet still great Rogue Squadron games, are you?
Oh, and wish granted with the TIE Fighter Total Conversion Mod for X-Wing Alliance Upgrade.
I have so many fond memories of this game and the rest of the series.... lets hope it gets rereleased on steam soon!
The graphics is really good for its time. My family had the game but I never bet it. I want to get it and play it again.
I loved this game so much as a kid.
0:45 Imperial Diplomacy ladies and gentlemen.
At least it doesn't involve any boring Senate meetings.
My friend... You didn't get pwned
You got THRWNED!
I LOVED this game man... thanks for posting!
2:52 remember when lord vader was fucking scary, not some retarded joke from the prequels and placed in goofy commercials
YIPEEEE
Vader doing what he does best removing traitors.
illuminatioracle Back when he crushed men like beer cans
***** Kind of makes you *never* think of lying to your boss.
illuminatioracle The one saving grace of Rogue One (cough)
I just love it when all the cut scenes hit 10 mins exactly... just nice for youtube's limit for common users. =) Missed those days dearly =( especially when the T/As are kicking my ass in my Assault gunboat =(
"The Emperor will be pleased"
Vader: that's one of the top 10 loads of shit I've heard in my life.
Sooo many memories, thank you!
one of the best aspects of this game was the inclusion of Thrawn
Zaarin: Once again we have evaded Thrawn's grasp. I knew I would be able to beat that....arghhhhh!.....
Thrawn: Beat that what? You didn't finish
First 15 seconds already has me more hyped than 95% of Disney Star Wars
i was waiting for someone to post this for ages! thank you! i had this game but my disc got scratched.. and lost.. lol:p
Definitely brings back memories. Especially the last mission debriefing:
"We await word from the Emperor about our victory at Endor."
...yeah, about that... 😅
You gotta love that classic midi music. This game had an awesome soundtrack.
Boy do I still miss this game. It was really ahead of its time. They need to make a newer version of it so it can work with the modern Macs and PCs. Gotta love the music.
I bought my first pc just to play this masterpiece...
I spent SO much time playing this old game - it will always be near and dear to my heart.
Such a great game, but it definitely separated the adults from the kiddies...save points? HA! Blow the last five seconds of the mission and you get to fly the entire mission AGAIN! You could hear my swearing for blocks around.
2:40 that's the narrator from rogue squadron 2
Anthony Joe he is in a lot of starwars games and I mean alot
Gotta love Denny Delk.
He's also Purple Tentacle and Murray the Skull from Day of the Tentacle and The Curse of Monkey Island+Return to Monkey Island.
@Karekristensson "We have no choice! Start the initiation procedures immediately!"
I remember playing either this or X-wing when I was REALLY little(like, 1997-1998, I'm 19 now) and I loved it. These new games, while fun, just don't have the same "oomph" that these games did. I miss 'em.
Thanks for posting this. The cutscenes are artistically made.
That is a brilliant Fleet, one Star Destroyer and nothing else. The person who came up with that idea should be given a medal
With Thrawn in command, one Star Destroyer is all you need (and not even that; the ship's an older, smaller Victory-class version in the actual mission).
Neverhoodian I always thought it was the Imperial Star Destroyer Wolf
I just double-checked Wookieepedia, and it's sketchy. Apparently Thrawn switched ships after the battle, from the VSD Stalwart to the ISD Vanguard. Yet the image labels the ISD in the cutscene as the Stalwart. Also, the NL-1 station changed from a Type C platform earlier in the campaign to a Type A for the final mission and cutscene.
Neverhoodian what's the difference between the Type C and Type A
Appearance, mostly. The station originally looked more like this:

@Orumon27 I think you mean "dumb fire"; blind firing's a whole different animal. ;)
Yeah, that was the trick to using space bombs: you want to pick up some speed and get close enough to launch your bombs, but not TOO close to where the cap ship's turbolasers rock your TIE Bomber out of the cosmos. Just launch and turn around when you hit the right range. It sounds like the Missile Boat was more forgiving here; just divert everything to your front shields and barrel at it like Donkey Kong.
I love the end !!!
Thanks for this video !!!
I had this when it first came out. I remember the expansion for it "Defender of the Empire'
Those were the days.
And also the sudden release of Enemies of the Empire only for the Collector's CD-ROM Edition. Oh, boy, I won't be surprised if some players were a bit angry that it had to be a, in these times, "Special Edition DLC exclusive".
This is the greatest game, even still.
This takes me back
Excellent work. I remember this so well.
OMG! I was waiting for someone to post this! I am so happy. I just wish we could have had some views of the INNER CIRCLE! I love the very ending. "Thus it the fate of enemies of the EMPIRE."
gameplay sure is old, but the cutscenes remain GOLD
