- We've covered 11 of the 12 original Grand Admirals so far, and it's finally time to get to the twelth- Grand Admiral Zaarin. Zaarin was the first of the Grand Admirals to die, and had a series of battles against Grand Admiral Thrawn, but most importantly he tried to kill Palpatine to become Emperor.

"King Hell God Emperor Starfighter of Death." Thrawn smiled sardonically.
"Maybe just call it the Missile Boat..." Palpatine replied while sighing.
I vote for Thrawn's naming idea.

@@ahsenkhan5386in the Disney stuff yes, in the old stuff it was this guy but thrawn really liked the ship and hoped that more resources would be allocated to them instead of building a second Death Star.

@@ahsenkhan5386Only in Disney Canon. In Legends, it was GA Zarrin that made the TIE Defender (He was the head of Starfighter R&D). Ironically, Legends Thrawn made the Missile Gunboat, the counter to Zarrin’s TIE Defender.
I always found it a bit odd that Zaarin wasn't mentioned more outside of the games. You'd think the man who almost overthrew the Emperor, destroyed most of the Empire's advanced starfighter facilities and gave Thrawn a run for his money would have been referenced more in Legends.
One of my favorite aspects about the Zaarin Insurrection is that it fits in neatly with the lore and addresses several potential plot holes that may have otherwise cropped up. For example, it explains why you don't see the Empire field hilariously overpowered starfighters like Tie Defenders and Missile Boats in large numbers (Zaarin destroyed the production facilities and took many of the surviving ships), along with addressing Thrawn's absence at pivotal battles like Endor (he was busy fighting Zaarin).
The one plot hole I don't get is what happened to Merrick Steele? Not only did he help Thrawn against Zaarin, but was another Emperor's Hand. Was he the reason Thrawn knew Mara Jade wasn't the only one? And where was he during the Thrawn Trilogy?
@@johnnygyro2295 Probably in the unknown regions, or he went up against the Rogues.
He is mentioned briefly in a few spots but certainly nowhere near what he should be. He's directly mentioned in Choices of One and Indirectly in X Wing Omnibus.

I think Thrawn's timeline is really screwy when trying reconcile the events of SW: TIE Fighter (mostly concerning the timing of his promotions to Admiral and Grand Admiral imo and not even counting that disparity the dude was practically bouncing between the Unknown Regions and the galaxy proper on a weekly basis) with other sources but Zaarin was dead midway through 3 ABY and the Battle of Endor occurred not too long after in 4 ABY.
This was kind of like the Star Wars equivalent of operation Valkyrie: The failed assassination attempt of Adolf Hitler.

Tie Fighter Total Conversion is such an amazing fan-made project. Everyone with a flight stick should give it a shot.
If not that, then just master it with a really good keyboard and gaming mouse.

6:10 The Gammorean could breathe fire IIRC. They also tied it in to the Republic/Legacy comics and Dark Forces video games by associating the Tusken from that game with Hett/Krayt and the Grave Tusken heretic gang from Dark Forces 2 Jedi Knight and its MotS expansion.
Gotta love Legends for its cross references.
Still hate Masters of Teras Kasi though. That's a game that deserves to be forgotten and not rereleased.

Yes, the lore is good, but the game is still trash. Just put it the important and bearable stuff of the game on a lot of essential guide material and call it a day.

Really criminal of you and Eck to deem TIE Fighter as below S-tier. Seriously, that game gets really good once you master it, and believe me, it sure is better than the unfortunately decaying Squadrons because of many reasons you sorely overlooked.
Anyhow, gotta love taking down this traitor to the Empire via his own obsession with experimental craft.
Its an incredible game but I still tapped out on the first Expansion Pack mission.
I mean, Eck is the same guy that said BF2’s lootbox controversy was “blown out of proportion”. Maybe he is not much of a gamer. Idk.

I feel like the vanilla game's finale where Palpatine is somehow loaded onto the shuttle and kidnapped doesn't make much sense. Even when retcons said the cyborg force user martial arts chick from Masters of Teras Kasi had joined Zaarin and helped. The XWA port fan made version of the events skips the shuttle part and makes the fleets much bigger, but sadly puts Vader back in his own X1 instead of making him a monster in a Defender.
I always just figured they must have used Ysalamari's somehow.

@@grandadmiralzaarin4962 It's the finale of the base game, IIRC every level after that is expansion pack content. Hence the gigantic difficulty spike. The upgraded re-release packed them all into one game.
@@grandadmiralzaarin4962 I'm like 99% sure every mission after the Emperor's kidnapping was expansion content. Just looked it up and I'm right, everything after the Emperor's Kidnapping is from Defender of the Empire. Which is expansion content that was included in the upgraded re-release.
It actually makes sence why he's in his X1. Every fighter is needed and you might as well have pilots in the craft they are trained on instead of Vader and some other pilot having to learn a new craft on the spot.
I dislike the retcon where they give the defender to thrawn. Good video.
I made prelection about Zaarin campaign about decade ago, animated as XWA briefings, thinking it would be faster then making it as slideshow or learning some new soft. It worked, but I never touched modding of XWA ever again. :D
Will the grand admirals ever come to new canon? We have thrawn, the most recognizable grand admiral. But it'd be cool to see some of the other ones, esspically since new canon doesn't shy away from talking about the politics of the empire. So seeing some of these men getting their positions because they were huge political supporters, I think that'd be interesting.
There's Grand Admiral Selit in Thrawn Treason and Rae Sloane though there's not much they do

I'm assuming that location name you butchered was 'Cygnus;' it''s less Sigh-gnus and more Sig-nus when spoken. It's Latin, it means swan, and it's associated with space because the first black hole discovered is known as Cygnus X-1 (because first and it's in the part of the sky dominated by the Swan constellation as these things are measured.)
