Joseph Perez This is just one battle. It makes sense that not every Rebel fleet made it. The Rebellion didn't win at all until the Battle of Yavin barring small hit and run attacks. Even destroying the Death Star was an act of desperation, they had to evacuate immediately anyway. They were just lucky to cause more losses to the Empire that day. As for force users. Yeah they were thought to be extinct except for Vader. The war still waged even without them in every battle.
I see a lot of these comments talking about how this looks so much better than modern Star Wars, but no one is mentioning how it manages to blend traditional animation and CG better than most anime from the past 15 years AND have a style that looks just as polished and detailed as some of the most impressive shows of the late 80's and early 90's. It's not just Star Wars that's gone downhill and is in trouble, it's the entire animation industry. Computers have made things easier, but they also made expected turnarounds faster and cheaper and lead to overall lower quality results. When you take your time and use them intelligently you can get results like this, and it's breathtaking.
As I understand in the Japan animation industry, the end goal of any anime series isn't the quality of the work, rather the consistent speed in which content is released. Take a look at one of my favourite current anime Overlord, it has rich lore, rich characters, rich places, yet the directors felt the need to cgi the Goblins, Skeletons, Soldiers, and other things that may need to be repeated over and over again, makes the whole scene look out of place and cheap. But it does cut time.
It's not actually about speed, not directly at least, as Kamari Peart said it's about money. Do it good, do it fast, do it cheap, but you can only pick 2. Speed has always been one of those two, but quality and price have varied back and forth depending on the series and time period. Back in the 80's and 90's you could reliably make money off of home video sales for quality works, like a lot of money. Old OVA's were single hour long episodes sold for the equivalent of $30-40 US (which would be more like $80 today). That sounds crazy today, but at the time home video and anime were still novel and considered worth it. Because of that high price tag though, people expected high quality. If you can make a lot of money by putting a lot of money in, by golly a company will do it, but if you can only get huge returns on 1 show out of 20, and most of your shows are just streamed or watched once on TV and sell really poorly in the Blu-Ray charts, you're going to throw everything at the wall as cheaply as possible to get something to stick. Just compare the old JoJo OVA to the more recent anime series. It's one of the only times you can see the exact same fights animated 25 years apart from each other. The newer one is generally considered to have the more appealing art style, but the older one absolutely demolishes the new one in terms of animation quality and pure detail. That's because it was an OVA with a huge budget per episode, because they expected a huge return per episode. The anime expected a modest return per set of episodes, so the budget is allocated accordingly. Only so many artists are able to work on each episode because there just isn't enough money to hire more, so they each have to work faster which naturally lowers what they can do.
I mean yes, but in many wars irl the side that “won” is not the side that logistically should have Sometimes one major lucky victory outplays the plight of the whole war

Rebels have 1000 star fighters. Empire has 1,000,000,000,000 star fighters. Equipping that many star fighters with shields would bank rupt them. Also the Empire liked to rely on Big Ships rather then small ones.

I know this is a joke, but just wanted to say they were probably considering whether the ships were worth destroying or disabling for capture. No matter how big your capital ship is, you're running on limited munitions and energy and you don't want to waste either of that on moves that don't bring good results in a ship battle. Having laser cannons switching to stun/disable means less cannons shooting deadly lasers, which could leave them exposed to bombers/fighters or returning fire from enemy ships if they're not destroying or suppressing them.
He concludes that because it's fleeing it might have a vip aboard so orders it targeted exclusively with ions. It's not unfair to consider that for a moment especially as it's against standard imperial military doctrine.

Remember: When the Millenium Falcon escapes from the Death Star, it's because Darth Vader ordered the troops to hold back, because he wanted to track the ship to the rebel base. It's just that the later writers forgot that, and depicted the Stormtroopers as inept, instead of so good you couldn't tell when they were faking ineptitude to set the rebels up for absolute destruction.

Han is a flat statue and the Rebellion is screwed." It was a goddamn long wait as a kid for 1983, to find out WTF was actually going on with the universe you had been drawn into hook line and sinker all those years ago with New Hope. No plot leaks, no teasers. Nothing. You waited 3 years and suffered through every theory and rumor that trickled down from any source you could find as a kid where there was no internet and no one to message and get an inside track like leaks today. It was a secret and we had to wait.
I think you got that backward. Disney turned the Stormtroopers into competent and intimidating soldiers, while under Lucas they couldn't hit the broadside of a barn and had their asses kicked by teddy bears with sticks. You wanna complain about certain story elements, fine, but the Stormtroopers and the Imperial (well, First Order) military in general greatly benefitted from not having Lucas at the helm. What I would complain about is how incompetent the Republic became.

and for the whole time, the applied visual rhetorics is exactly what I would call an evolved portrayal of the ww2. this is the key to Star Wars duality, as it plays with the human side of the antagonism, turning its characters into something more than just letting them be villains -- ones that a viewer could identify with -- but without evoking any historical context in the process.
I've always loved this. I appreciate how it slightly humanizes the Empire by showing them as not always faceless. Not to the point that they are redeemed, but just enough to raise the stakes overall for everyone involved. To tell you the truth.

NiGHTSnoob this
Yeah, sadly that's not how you make money and this is extremely unviable to keep up without cutting corners; resulting in a similar low quality.
No disney? No sequel trilogy?

Imperial Captain: **Strokes chin in deep, deep thought** "I've come up with a plan. We should shoot that Rebel Ship."
Imperial Crewman: **sigh** "I can see why you get paid the big bucks, Sir."
It's not unfair to consider that for a moment especially as it's against standard imperial military doctrine.
also great at 5:41 when he waves his hand at his enemies even though his crew had already been given their orders to target and shoot, like he was pretending the lasers were coming from his fingers.
Or "Turning on the Shield now!"...ridiculous they hadn't already during an attack.
@@mwnciboo Yeah the dialogue dubbing is terribly miss matched.
All their Shields are up from the start. The interdictor doesn't turn on its Shields it alters it's disruption field from the mode that blocks hyperspace in a massive radius to the mode which disrupts ordinance in a close radius, and presumably right back once the immediate threat was gone.
I love how realistic this is compared to all the plot armor and justification that the hero’s get despite them being no better than the villains
When a 7 minute animation beats a billion-dollar movie.

@@giannilyanicks1718 Now that, I can agree with, but the insult itself isn’t necessary.
All good, man. Just enjoy the anime.

RIP Luke and R2.
Or at least it looks like them. Could be separated twins. Wouldn't be the FIRST time that happened...
No. Yeah. That was Luke. The helmet is right.
@@_M_W_MacKay_it could just have the same markings.
I doubt it was luke, and r2. Those droids were like a mass produced produced unit not so ? , its just that the unit luke had was special. He had a personality.
That glorious back door strategy worked every time in the old star wars battlefront 2.
plus luke hasn’t really piloted a y-wing before afaik
Finally a star wars movie, where the good guys win.
manus dei
You should go to your nearest Imperial recruitment center.
manus dei ????
Agreed
Go empire
You ment the bad guys not the good guys, but still great movie!!!
1. why tf is the animation so amazing
2. i always feel somewhat bad for the cannon fodder tie pilots its even worse with faces smh
This is the type of content that should be on trending or recommended.
Bluntman G no
Just no
Bluntman G To youtube, anime is cancer. I hope it stays like that.
Bluntman G Nope we get stupid ass Colbert Fuck him
Its one video, if it was a series maybe but a single one shot from years ago isn't going to get to trending
This could rival all of the new sequel trilogy, spin offs and that resistance series. AND ITS A FAN FILM!!!
This feels more like Star Wars than Disney Star Wars.
@Venge Ance I can't argue with that.
MrThystleblum1 damn right!
Feel's like home again.
Yes
Star Wars Resistance was stylistically designed to look like shit.
After all these years I'm still convinced, being part of the Empire could turn you into a badass.
This short never fails to impress no matter how many times I see it remastered in some way.
And I still want to see a series around these imperial fighter pilots.
In 7:10, this video showed more Imperial competence than the entire 4 seasons of Star Wars: Rebels
Kaptin Barfbeerd The entire Star Wars movies*
Rebels, where ALL Imperial officers wear hats that cover their eyes. Rendering them blind lol (when in reality, just makes it easier to animate)
The imperial navy is hands down one of the coolest sci fi fleets ever.
@MrDjBigZ WH40k ship designs are trash and doesnt come close to the iconic Star Wars doritos.
and there most powerful stations got destroyed by a star fighter and a pirate ship
@@ljtheone You cant defeat plot armor.
@MrDjBigZ Oh wow your fictional ship is stronger than this fictional ship. Doesnt matter, WH40k ship design is trash.
@MrDjBigZ In a space fantasy, rule of cool trumps practicality. Star Wars have beautiful ships unlike the bricks of WH40k.
At first, I wasn't a fan of the artstyle, but rewatching it, this is one of the best star wars animations ever. Happy New Year 2023.
These seven minutes are more awesome and worthy of praises than the whole Disney Sequelogy.
Couldn’t agree more
Not a hard bar to surpass but agree 100%.
well i don't agree but still the animation is goat
And more awesome and worthy of praise than the entire prequel trilogy as well
@@Hallucination respect your opinion i will agree with it i won't
The aesthetic of the animation reminds me of AKIRA (1988)
I'm getting a Robotech (macross) vibe
yeah absolutly ! it might be bc of all thoses neon
For me: Megazone 23
yeah. more Macross than Akira.
do you remember love?
I geeked out over the TIE Fighter's ion engines, showing the thrust vectoring capability. So cool!
You can also see the TIE's the lack of shields
And also the empire's lack of respect for their pilots
@@PK-Radio it's not that they had no respect it would cost them to much for shields
@@Clone_Trooper-zh5cn the republic could pay for shielded starfighters and a truckload of clones
I think they could afford cheap deflector shields
@@PK-Radio they had millions of tie fighter so yes it would cost them quite a bit to equip everyone with a shield
I think it's called thruster gimbal but eh tomato tomatoe
Most accurate starwars lore... This guy is a legend 🙂
This is the most Star Wars I've seen on screen since the prequels.
Eric Dayne most Star Wars I’ve seen since the clone wars
Best I've seen since Return of the Jedi...I mean a real long fucking time!!
You guys must have missed out on Rogue One
Calwin oh yeah...rogue one...
Really? I didn't see a single moment of sitting on a couch and talking politics.
Disney should have hired Paul Johnson instead of Rian Johnson.
For those unaware, Otaking77077 made the animation, his name is Paul Johnson.
I just redid the SFX and put star wars music in it for the remaster :)
maybe they were dyslexic
I thought Jar Jar Abrams' handling was worse but whatevs.
@@TheTaintedWisdom I agree, but I was just trying to make a lame pun
@@TheTaintedWisdom No way.
This is soo good. The shots are so expressive, I was drawn to the action the whole time even though there was no context to the story. This brings back the glory of the originals, it was like watching the originals! I hope you make more!
Is it cuz it's animated? It felt way more original trilogy to me. The way the shots are framed, the timing and the music.
Basically, if Zeta Gundam was Star Wars. Plus Macross judging by the "Itano Circus" missile movement and animation.
The animator is apparently a fan of that Golden Age 80's Anime style... as am I.
Mil veces mejor que lo que ha realizado Disney!! Esto es STAR WARS!!!!!!!
Star Wars as an anime would kick ass. Stormtroopers/ Vader/ Imperials in general are tailor made for japanese animation
Actually there are manga versions of the movies.
@@mitsvanmitsvanio6106 THERE IS?! Good God! Can you give me a link?
@@George_Bulkin old comment maybe you already found one but there is this one: kissmanga.com/Manga/STAR-WARS-Lost-Stars
This 7 minute short was better than the entirety of The Last Jedi
Rian Johnson was probably like "Why doesn't my Star Wars look like that!!?"
It’s all relative, mate. But yes, this is truer Star Wars than The Last Jedi.
damn right!
@Unknown User no u
Star Wars anime was better than Disney Star Wars?! Expectations = subverted!!
I like how she gives a thumbs-up even though they clearly don‘t see that.
Yeh
And the other guy just nods
@@X3H3X They probably did that too when they all got shot down.
the Original animation had no voices, just subtitles
it was a visual que for the tie bomber and tie pilots to acknowledge order
the voices were added later from voices from startwar games and anime.
Holy shit... I can't believe it. Someone can STILL DO accurate Star Wars!
Thank God its not "The Gahyest Star Wars" evah!!
This a Akira type beat and I’m all for it
This animator made a DR Who episode, too.
@OocSNKZ Doctor Who is an old British TV show that aired in 1963-80's. BBC recently revived the show in 2005 and the show has been running since.

The rebels should have taken notes from the imperial commander. The only thing more unyielding than plot armor is that dude’s Tupperware hair.
Crab Crayon
Rebel officer:"sir the shields are down"
Rebel Commander: "where are the named protagonists?"
RO: "They left with the Home One"
RC: "DAMN IT".
RO: "sir?"
RC: "without shields or named characters... We are doomed... WAIT HOW LONG HAVE WE BEEN ON SCREEN"
Ro: "an hour or so-"
RC: "THEN WE SHALL DIE A EXPLOSIVE AND SLOW DEATH GOD FUCKING DAMN IT!!!!!!"
"Their defenses are thinning out. Do not relent. Show no mercy."
"Whew. Lucky you said that. I was on the verge of relenting."
"...wha..."
"You know. Because I've never shown any mercy before. I wanted to see what it feels like."
"..."
"But you said not to show any mercy. I was about to do it, but because you said not to ..."
"We'll discuss this in further detail when we return to the ship."
"Oh, no doubt. But in the interim, nix on any relenting and no to that mercy thingie. Got it."
Long Live the Galactic Empire!
SW Episode VIII: HISHE
1 man > all of Disney Star Wars production team
More chef spoil the broth, it is known.
I absolutely LOVE this animation style. Peak 90's aesthetic with updated detail.
Can we just take a moment to appreciate all the subtle details referencing the actual 1994 game for MS-DOS?
Like holy shit you can see the games HUD spliced into the animation.
Not to mention the amount of ass clenching when that one TIE Fighter took a hit and still bagged a kill. TIE Fighters went down in two friggin hits man. The nostalgia.
Also, the battle plan scene at 2:23.
I think i pick also some lines of battlefront 2 of 2005
That's a great game actually my first star wars game 😎👍
Yeah, but hitting them was enough of a pain in the ass that those nay-sayers about the design can shut up.
I was going to say this brought back memories of the old PC game. Some of the scenes seemed really familiar.
When I played the game back in ‘94, I was so proud to be an imperial tie pilot........this is the way it felt
When I played it back then I was thinking I am such a badass just for surviving space-battles while flying this shieldless coffins called the Tie-Series.
Im totally playing that game now the steam version
Tie Pilots and the Empire deserve more honors than they got.
