    Hey folks, welcome to Deconstructing the Game. In todays video I show you a variety of cut areas in Night City and talk about what else might have been cut. These areas range from big and small and some areas are seemingly insignificant. This video will most likely have a follow up so stay tuned.

    Seeing as one of the DLC's name is "Night City Expansion" I think it's entirely possible that many of these areas might get finished and released to make the city feel even more detailed.

    Remember the devs actually wanted to finish the game but could not cause the heads wanted those holiday profits but all it did was stain the studios rep

      They had a decade to work on the game. So there’s no excuse... I’m gonna blame my steak being burnt on he Chef thanks...

    1:49 this ends up being used in the 1.6 update! They added a fixer job for regina, a rescue, where this door can be used as an exit to get the person out

      Indeed, I recognized the kitchen too and just came here to comment about it as well. :) That's the mission with Tiny Mike, and he unlocks the keycode to the door to get through IIRC.

      Looking at how far they've gotten in 9 years of development, I'd say they should've waited until 2077 like the title says. Then it might have enough completed content and flushed out mechanics to be a game worth playing.

      @No Thanks Reports did say that. Development didn't really start until W3 was totally done BUT they announced the game in 2012 . The graphical styling really Changed since that original teaser trailer, though you can meet the characters in it.
      If the game hadn't been announced until 2016, everything woulda been fine. Fans and shareholders wouldn't be waiting 8 years for payoff

      it is still a disaster on last gen, especially when entering the more crowded areas ( most of watson, city center, heywood, japantown )

    The ncpd station at the entrance to V's megabuilding has elevator button to the station but door will open to the side of a skybridge , since 1.2 the button to the station is disabled with unauthorised ,this could have been cut location for the cut maxtac recruitment story line .

      I noticed it had changed. Vs penthouse apartment doors are now locked shut too if you climb to it now.

    Looking at this now is very interesting as for example the restaurant in Kabuki was recently made accessible through one of the new gigs that came with 1.6. Which means they're slowly integrating these missing parts into the game now.
    I find the topic of hidden or cut content and exploring it quite interesting.

      Yea I took a look here again but no change. The elevator has metal heaven and the weapon store quite clearly listed. Fingers crossed it all opens up to be a functional re visitable area.

      Cyberpunk is never going to be what it was hyped to be and I really doubt the single expansion they are releasing is going to fix it. The fact that it is only getting one expansion says a lot. They can't even fix the bugs that persist to this day let alone add in cut content.

    The unfinished/cut level design indicates the chaotic development caused by multiple very talented teams working without talented project management. They obviously had a level design team who were just furiously trying to flesh out the city (Infrastructure designers, building designers, detailers, lighting, etc.), then you also had content design teams fleshing out the areas they needed for stories and features (quest designers and their teams which also included level designers, detailers, lighting designers, etc.).

    The catwalks in particular make more sense when you consider they're not really meant to actually be used or traversed. They may have been at some point, but at release they're just decoration. They just happen to be very easy to access.

      Exactly, not every object in the city was designed to be accesible by the player, a lot of buildings (even the penthouse mentioned in the video) might be just put there to be visible from other places... and that's it. They might be created just to make a Night City more monumental.

      I jumped to those catwalks at some previous patch and it was just for visuals, there was big empty area hidden behind buildings there. Map is not so big as it seems like. Newest patch has invisible walls there and some objects added. Buildings have walls behind doors, these doors are not meant to be enterable, if they would there would be modeled hole to wall, you can add objects ti game but you can't make holes to objects in game editor, they need to be modeled in different program.

      And those "graphical glitches" or "void" is called occlusion culling, they are invisible planes ir boxes inside buildings and stuff, stuff behind them is not rendered for player for performance reasons. You don't need to render stuff that you can't see. So when you go to area which is not meant to be accessable you might get inside occlusion culling box which makes stuff dissappear.

    the door at 1:25 is used by red menace in the blue moon mission. red was watching the whole thing go down from the rooftop of that building, and if you fail to save blue moon, red comes down and fights you (that's why she appears as hackable if you scan her during the kerry missions). I was actually able to go in the same door as her once I discovered that, but you gotta jump up there pretty quick after bm dies to catch the door open

    lol honestly I think the SOS sign at 11:36 is a cry for help from a level designer, especially given its location relative to Crunch Plaza

    Yes, the gun shop you reach by elevator was always veeeery suspicious! xD
    I do wonder how many times they dropped buildings. It's already telling that the Maglev public transport would in some situations bump directly into buildings! xD

    The food escape building is part of a side quest where you rescue someone from either a militech or netwatch raid (dont remember which)
    Edit: didn’t realize this video was a year old. The Japanese house on top of the mega building is also part of a side quest lol.
    I guess these are the new added side quests they announced when the latest update dropped

      Cheers dude. It's just really fun for me roaming the city looking for clues. Small compilation video coming soon of more minor areas that I have found but weren't interesting enough to make a full video for them.

    15:03 it would be really nice if/once we get vehicle customization or even tuning that vik would do it for us since after the beginning of the story there's basically no reason to go to him even though he seems like a great character that is fleshed out, but doesn't add a lot after the heist

    Love this stuff thanks for posting. I have the ability to use noclip on PC so I’m gonna check out some of these areas which aren’t accessible through wall breaches. Noclip makes things too easy sometimes aha, will let you know if I find anything :)

      No clip is great and I'd love to use it to snoop. Like you say it's too easy and considering all the backlash from launch iv had loads of fun reaching areas without mods. The amount of stuff hidden under ground and way above the map is insane.

      @@DeconstructingTheGame I can imagine it’s more rewarding having to climb your way to areas, reminds me of the old out of map glitches on cod 4 which took a good amount of patience. Yeah you’re right, tonnes of props under the map which must eat up performance, no wonder the game has problems with LOD.

    In the car park building that you get your car back in after the first part of the game, on one of the floors there’s a random mop bucket that glows when you try and scan but I have no clue what it’s there for. Has anyone else noticed this or knows why it’s even there?

    What if the street cred system wasn't originally just a level thing. I'm thinking maybe the intention for the Street Cred was for it to be flexible not static. Maybe certain activities could raise or lower it but also your fashion sense and cyberware would have affected it. Things like Jewelry stores would add to things we could buy for V to gain some passive Street cred.

      That would have been a great feature much like the humanity scale depending on how much cyberware you install. That has recently become a mod.

      @@DeconstructingTheGame I was also thinking its a shame there isn't more "Name Brand Cyberware" Wish we could have had a V with Full Arasaka/Militech/Dynalar/Kiroshi/Tetratronic gear. Each could have a unique set of differences both stats wise and skills even. Like Militech Gorilla arms would have reduced recoil with heavy weapons, Arasaka would have increased melee weapons speed, Dynalar/QianT would have "While Sandevistan is active" perks. Ultimately making V fight like someone who would work for or in that company and provide new playstyles.

    elevated catwalks and bridges between buildings that you see, and megabuildings should have had more missions/content with them. Was hoping for a dredd-style mission where you get trapped in a giant lockdown for a megabuilding until finishing a quest inside of it, with lots of enemies. Any missions at higher elevations would be welcome, it feels like too much of the game's content happens on the ground level/first couple stories of night city, when so many people live and do business in megabuildings, 100s and 1000s of feet in the sky.

    Man I'm late but thier are yellow arrows with combat zone painted on it pointing to locked doors, I guarantee they were dungeons or co op dungeons damn so much was cut

    If you get on to the train track, and find yourself at the top of the downtown district along the river by watts, you’ll find a balcony that leads up into a building and to a sky bridge, you can tell by the way it’s design that it was just scrapped, a lot of cool stuff along the tracks actually

    @6:30 I was literally just exploring this exact same cat walk and found another elevator in downtown/city center that opens but just has a blank wall behind the door- I can only conclude it was at one point being worked on by a level designer but they had to stop due to crunch or a cut mission

    Idk, I can't tell what is cut. CDPR notoriously just churns out content until release and then anything unfinished gets DLC'd or dropped in an Expansion....that's not cut content, that's just them planning around providing content installments later down the line and leaving openings.
    While the Crunch Plaza is a more clear and OBVIOUS Cut content style situation where they legit did a lazy wall off, and didn't even clean up the space in that area for final release...(lots of exposed glass railings that cut into the path, etc. As well as unfinished lighting, and slapped on barriers.
    Also, at Crunch Plaza, could be internal dev talking about Crunch...but also that's the ONLY instance of Metal Heaven in the game. That sign isn't reused anywhere else, which I feel means it was intended to be fleshed out for a purpose....but there is already a music shop, so I have no idea why this is special.
    Things like a door that looks like you can open it isn't what I think of as cut content, like people call the subway cut content, I call it "prepared to be made"...not cut. They planned the subway so that IF they got around to prioritizing it, they didn't have to uplift the entire block to do so. Which takes time, but pays off if you do get to that feature. I wouldn't call it cut, it's more just a seed.
    Some of these are just facades for world flavor...them letting you in isn't cut, just nice. Most of the time it's a shitty box or nothing at all. So them dropping some enterable playable spaces is nice, and may be more targeted for Multiplayer and giving more kinds of play spaces for players to enjoy. Imagine you have 20 in tech, are being shot at, open the door, and now have a makeshift spot to shoot a tech weapon from and cover? So it's not 'nothing' in that context...it's not deep, but it's definitely still a playspace.
    Things like exterior roof decor seems more about just breaking up the roofs so the space seems lived in if you are at street level. They clearly haven't decided to fully embrace how you can get basically anywhere because of double jump...but I don't expect them to be able to fully workout every square inch of the city just because of that. Just not feasible at this scale.
    I wouldn't call it a crack in development, more just a biproduct of trying to create a game in a Cyberpunk aesthetic at a scale larger than a team this size can usually produce. All games have this kind of "patch only what they can see and what they can't is haphazardly placed"...like I can guarantee the amount of people even attempting to interrogate the scenery like this is less than 1% and of those even smaller of a portion that actually run into these more sizable holes in the world design. CDPR still employ visual tricks so you don't tend to question or look at these spaces. You can't naturally get there and they don't even make it enticing to do so with lights, etc.
    That Massive highway looks like a race location...albeit it'd be dope if it brought us to a new layer of the city exclusive for Corpo content.
    My bet is the Jewelery Store copied around the map gets an interior for cosmetics like metalic aguments and body parts, actual jewelry to wear, etc.
    Metal Heaven could be tied to Rockerboy content and sell Rockerboy weapons and cloths.
    Vic will eventually be one of a few garages you can go to to at LEAST get a paint job, who knows what else...maybe actual tune ups and modifications.
    Barbershops...I have no clue where those will be...might just be mirrors. There is no clear location. There is also a Property Management realestate business that's always clearly marked to be enterable but just not given an interior...so that's also likely a planned feature.
    End of the day, really I feel like it's seeds for more content, but they just are too small of a team to get it all done, but given their history of enhancing their singleplayer over time...I'd be surprised if a lot of these seeds don't become fully fleshed out later.

      uhhhhh how you feeling now? from what I've seen with them not releasing sales numbers past december 2020 this game might not warrent alot of dlc's. they already started work on witcher 4 faster than they did this game *cough* cyberpunk was made in 3 years *cough*

    I actually found those green catwalks today and they are still not accessible but now it’s very closed up there are no straight paths to the void anymore and parts where the parking garage clipped into it everything is now intact with fences at all the ends of the paths. Really has me wondering why even patch up the catwalks but still not make them actually a part of the map it’s the weirdest thing adds so much verticality to that part of the map

    6:40 hey, I already found this and I forgot where it was, I wanted to go back to it so bad but I couldn’t find where it was, thanks for showing me, these kind of glitches are actually really errie and freaky and makes me like this game, I always go glitch hunting where I find weird things like this, I like climbing really high up the side of buildings and then try to get inside of these walkways that are super high off the ground, they are always really glitchy and cool, also I am on PC and those walkways are also empty. Also I’ve also realized that you can almost always walk straight through blurry parts of buildings

    I don't think the SOS thing is a pure coincidence. I think the designer who put them there noticed them getting culled because only high detail LOD model exists and the others are empty, and then went in and made the bounding volumes on the letters SOS larger, so they cull out slightly latter than adjacent letters. But only a little, to retain plausible deniability.

      It's a shame, Hindsight would have the excs kicking themselves. I'm sure if they waited till now and released a few highly polished demos along the way, CDPR and the game itself would be in a much better spot. It's still good though, glad I waited due to the issues but I would of mind if it released another 2 years late.

    I think those doors with wall behind them are just doors. Wall behind them should have hole if it were to be enterable. There is no hole modeled and collision is made so player can't go through. I think if player were meant to go through these doors the walls behind them should be modeled uniquely. So doors are just for visuals in these places.

    The best way to not buy into the hype is to pay attention to all the games releasing not what is to come. I use to and I would find a lot of alpha's and beta games and I would even offer to help out with those games and they'd either end up releasing but dead on release or just dying in development hell. Most of the content you are pointing out are background content. 99% of the game was made without double jump in mind.

    There's enough story and side missions in the game that I won't be mad if they don't reinsert the cut content (it would be awesome though!) but I really, really wish there was more traffic on the streets and working trams! Sometimes I can walk for minutes along an empty road with no cars whatsoever. When you look at those huge freeway intersections and all are empty, that doesn't feel like a giant city, it feels more like Fallout..

      I think the density of NPCs and Vehicles will increase with the next gen update along with better programming in new versions and hotfixes. Iv not seen a single tram and I have walked along the monorail countless times.

      I hate when you're near the highway and you can SEE traffic in the distance, but the closer you get, it despawns lol

    I honestly think we will be seeing a lot of expansions and content in the next 1-3 years. I know they want to make right on many things. Just stay positive. Cheers!

    You can tell that they had large ambitions for this game, but unfortunate when you have limited time there is only so much you can do with a small development team. For the most part, you can tell they did a pretty good job hiding all of the unfinished content around the map unless you specifically go looking for it. You couldn't even guess that most of the pacifica area was cut, which was kinda sad. It was one of the more interesting areas in the game and it had the depth of a puddle. The voodoo mall was interesting, but that was it

      Close to Corpo Plaza. Look for the yellow banner in the thumbnail. It's close to a Ginguchi store that has a side mission involving Maxtac. There is an elevator that takes you to a gunstore right beside the Crunch Plaza sight. the elevator has 4 levels and has access to other catwalks.

      @@DeconstructingTheGame I'm making this comment to inform others, as there are simpler directions on how to reach the plaza: go to the Halsey and MLK fast travel point in Corpo Plaza, City Center and cross the street.

      SOS has actually a true meaning in the core and original cyberpunk universe. It stands for « Style over Substance » and is kind of a code for the merc way of life. But that does not mean it isn’t tied to a secret because one of the main follower of this Solo or merc code is no one else that Morgan Blackhand. Now Blackhand ´s absence in the game although his presence is hinted through shards and dialogue (claire clearly states that there are no Blackhand coktail at the afterlife cause they are only named after dead solos and no one Knows what the f happened with blackhand) doesn’t mean he could not appear in a future content 🙂 sorry for the long comment, I really enjoy your channel ^^ keep going !

    That oriental building, the only thing I can think of its possible use for, in Night City and Cyberpunk's setting, is to have something to do with possibly Yorinobu or his two children. They're the only ones that give off japanese vibes (which that building somewhat comes off as to me, or possibly even chinese--maybe) that would find some use out of that building.

    Please change your title. It's not you telling and/or showing us cut content. It's you showing random Doors and theorizing "This could have been unused area".

    Some of those catwalks were removed due to optimization. That's why the rail system was removed. This is also why they changed the whole concept of "climbing buildings". Due to how games render things, anything high up will see and could see futher away thus it renders more, even if you will see less. That's because games often render what you could see. I bet you these areas are to limit visibility to help performance, but if they were something and that something was cut, it probably was for optimization, or just to look more authentic. CDPR spent a lot of time on this game optimizing it, and it still largely failed. I wouldn't be surprised if they had to cut half their vision just to get it out otherwise it would spend another 6 years in development

    let's summarize the video:
    "I go to places that are almost impossible to access, sometimes by intentionally using gliths, and I complain that there is a missing texture and that there is a clipping problem at the end of a path that I am not supposed to access. Oh, and I say "cut content" for absolutely any idea that pops into my head, as if the game has been truncated by 99% of its content."
    Sorry, I try not to be aggressive, but I'm a little fed up with hearing "cut content" as soon as a door is closed

    So, when walking along the monorail track near Crunch Plaza, there's an area with two big glass enclosures. There's two glass enclosures with trees in them (it even plays bird sound effects when you're in them) along with some stairs, there's a glass path that leads between the two, and even rows of vending machines. Is this ever used in the game for anything? It's detailed enough I wanna think it is, but it's also clearly unfinished, with a door half in the ground, a door leading to nothing, and the pathway has a gap missing in it near one of the doors. The doors DO work though, you can open and close them.
    Edit: There's also music that plays up there in a certain spot.
