The Mandalorian Season 3 Episode 1 BREAKDOWN - STAR WARS IS BACK

  • as we begin the first episode of the mandalorian season 3, we get the armorer crafting a new mandalorian helmet, ceremoniously welcoming a young mandalorian boy into their creed of mandalorian’s which are the children of the watch. The same as Djin Darin. We also see Paz Vizsla there amongst them, who helped Mando in the first season. He’s pretty cool with his gattling gun. He also is a direct descendant of Tarre Vizsla I assume as they have the same last name. Tarre Vizsla was the first jedi mandalorian, whom i believe Grogu will follow suit eventually. Now, this creed is different from other mandalorian sects, in which a mando cannot remove one’s helmet in the presence of any sentient being. As they say their creed and swear on the names of their ancestors that they shall walk the way of the mandalore, a massive sea monster emerges from the ocean, giving major jurassic park meets star wars vibes.
Seeking retribution for his good will, we walks into the cave of the armorer where she says you removed your helmet, you are no longer a mandalorian. if we remember from the book of boba fett, he told her this and she said he’s no longer a mandalorian for this. The reason behind this is because they’re very traditional, they’re not like new mandalorians like bo katan who follow a more relaxed ideology and much less superstitious, but also to protect them by hiding their numbers. For it’s hard to track numbers by helmet as they can all look similar, but it’s easy to count by faces.
She says redemption is no longer possible since the destruction of mandalore.
He shows her a piece of crystal from Mandalore that Jawas bought from a random traveler. She is stunned to see it as it’s impossible for anyone to take anything from Mandalore, as setting foot on the planet would kill them as it is poisoned. Clearly, it hasn’t been, since he now has this proof.
She says this proves that mandalore’s surface has been crystalized by fusion rays, from all the bombing from the night of a thousand tears.
They leave to Navarro 7 in hyperspace, as Grogu looks out the window to notice massive space whales travelling with them in hyperspace. These are the Purgil we was from star wars rebels who helped Ezra and took him to an unknown place, along with Thrawn. I like how they showed this, it was a nice scene, and connects Ezra, Ahsoka, and Thrawn to the timeline. Maybe we’ll see them in this season of the mandalorian, maybe we will in Ahsoka’s show only. I guess we’ll see.
They head to Navarro 7 where we meet up with Greef Carga again, as he lands down and the town looks really clean and rennovated. Lots of life, merchants, aliens from all over. It’s buzzing with droids and beings. It looks great and very star wars, unlike Kenobi which barely had any aliens in it.
We come up to the IG-11 droid statue, where his parts have been salvaged as much as possible, and he stands as a becaon of hope to all for his efforts.
Grogu uses the force to spin his chair, which is the same thing Yoda did in revenge of the sith at the end of the film on polis massa, albeit he wasn’t doing it for fun, he just had to turn to talk to Obi-Wan and Bail Organa as his feet are too short to touch the ground.
They walk off and Mando gets offered the job of Ranger where he asks about Cara Dune, where it’s revealed she was promoted to special forces when she brought Moff Gideon in. It’s a better send off for Cara than saying she’s dead or something, but I still wish she was in the show and that Gina didn’t get fired. Moff Gideon was sent to a New Republic War Tribunal.
Heading to his final destination of the episode, Mando and Grogu arrive to kalevala, another planet in the mandalorian system and home to house Kryze as they come to a Mandalorian Castle…where Bo Katan is kicking her feet up on her empty throne, alone. They gave her a new wig this season and it looks very much like her animated form.
She’s melancholy because when she arrived back to her people without the dark saber, she lost all respect and her authority to lead them. She’s mad about it, and blames the children of the watch and all factions before it for dividing their people, instead of uniting them. She is of the new mandalorians who don’t care for such trivial uptight traditions like forbidding ones from removing helmets.
She says goodbye din djarrin in a nefarious tone…either she gave him some wack gps location where he’s gonna get killed, or she really thinks the planet is poisoned and he won’t make it out alive. Either way, she’ll probably go there to scoop up the dark saber from his lifeless body. The way she said goodbye with that jealous and angry tone, really makes her a questionable character now…is she an ally, neutral, or foe…i guess we’ll find out next episode.

A great first episode! In the trailer, when Bo Katan said, “Did you think your Dad was the only Mandalorian?”, I’m now starting to think that she’s talking to Boba. Grogu has already seen tons of Mandalorians unlike Boba, who has only seen Din, Bo Katan, and Koska Reeves. Boba hasn’t seen other Mandalorian clans and believes that Mandalore was completely destroyed by the Empire, etc.🤔 If they show a little bit of love to Jango and Jaster Mereel in this season, I’d greatly appreciate it!😁 Jaster’s name was canonized on Boba’s Chain Code in Season 2.😁

She may find it silly but it wouldnt matter. Her clan dont give a shit about her unless she possess that old trinket. She even said it in a quite pretentious and mocking way that Mando should just wave that sword in front of them and they will follow. Like she knows it's all bs. But you cant change anything, any rule UNLESS you're Mandalore. Same goes for helmets on Mando's side.

@@MotherOfSorrows Problem is, dark saber is not bullshit, unlike the mask of mandalore (kotor 2 thing) which is similar, the dark saber is ALIVE. Through the force it seems the dark saber has picked two owners with similar ideas, Sabine Wren and Din Djarin. Both are a mix of the new ways and old ways, both are willing to change but refuse to give up on their beliefs, Dark saber knows what it wants and when they went against it (giving up to bo) it lead to great harm and damage.

It wasnt her who cared about the silly tradition of the Darksaber it was her fellow Mandalorians, once they saw she didnt have it they didnt care to follow her lead. The difference between never removing a helmet and the Darksaber is that one only affects the individual, like how Din Djarin is now considered an apostate , while the Darksaber, not only represents a unique mandalorian who uses a Jedi's weapon but it also is a symbol that can rally all Mandalorians to whoever wields the blade

One mandalorian and a guy with Mando armor could destroy the Giant sand dragon but a whole bunch of Mandos cant handle one smaller beast?!?!?! I mean come on! They are supposed to be the best warriors yet they depended on the main protagonist to save them. I know the writers were trying to make Mando look cool and heroic but its at the cost of the rest of the Mandalorians who now look weak.

I actually had his action figure when I was a kid LOL. I was 9 years old, and didnt know who was who, but all the lesser characters tended to be more popular. I remember waiting in line a week after the show first premiered, for HOURS. We eventually moved over to the shorter line for "Logan's Run" which was also playing, and then bought popcorn and snuck over to the Star Wars side....LOL Crazy to think how long ago that was.

I remember waiting in those crazy lines to see this, and what alot of people never mention is that it was like that for a couple of years. The movie came out when I was 7, and when I was 9 or 10, there were STILL lines to see it. As it stayed in theaters a long time. (So did Jaws and Grease, but although those were huge, they didnt hold a candle to this ones popularity).
What I think, friend..... This movie is nostalgia personified. And at least this show (Mandalorian) seems to be in great hands. Too bad this team didnt do all the other star wars projects. They probably wouldnt have flopped the way they did. Mandalorian "feels" like old school Star Wars.

    • @SantomPh

technically Darth Maul is the rightful user of the Darksaber as he was the last person to actually defeat the owner. Wren took the saber from Maul's hideout and then gave it to Bo-Katan (who somehow lost it to Gideon). As Obi-Wan actually killed Maul in Rebels though, the Darksaber actually should have gone to him. Vader defeated Obi-Wan ,then was defeated by Luke. Hence Luke is actually the master of the Darksaber!

the episode began with the armorer pouring some magical water into the cauldron, and the big cliff hanger at the end of was that "there's nothing magical about the mandalorian water". i feel like there's a connection there, maybe the way din's cult were able to create their armors was through preserving some of that magical water.

I was about to comment this as well. There is for sure some effect of the water as it leaves the vial. Maybe that is how true beskar armor is created that is impervious to everything, as opposed to the beskar alloys most mandelorians have. Maybe Dins clan passed down this secrete for generations and that's why the armorer knows how to do it and has the superstition about the water since it seems to have "magical" properties making the beskar insanely strong.

I enjoyed the culture we got to see with the Children of The Watch bringing another Founding into their family. I thought it was awesome to see the ceremony and swearing in. I also thought that it had some Christian baptism vibes to it also. The dogfight with the pirates sang ESB to me and it was fantastic! Also I don’t much feel bad for Bo Katan. She is a great and capable warrior, but she never achieved great victory without outside help, Asoka helps capture Maul, Din Jaren provides the location of Moff Gideon etc. She was gifted the Darksaber and lost the Throne after. Short episode was a bummer but I liked the parts I did see. I forget how to spell their name, but the space whales that Grogu saw definitely confirm my Ezra/Thrawn suspicions and I’m waiting to see if my hunch about mando being the reluctant leader of mandalore comes though. Heavy is the head that wears the crown, and I think this will parallel between his doubts and conquering the darksaber.

I didn’t think that no one else could fix IG, I just figured no one tried… Greef is in charge and no one probably offered to try because Greef never said to. In his mind IG was done for.. I’m sure if they actually tried to fix him, they probably could have.
I see Dinn as more of a skilled handyman than an expert of any kind… he’s just a self sufficient type who can keep a ship running long enough to get it to an expert, keep his armor and tech working well enough to keep him alive, and fix up or hack the occasional bit of tech for a job or whatever. He’s more of a cool uncle who can do lots of stuff pretty well but he’s not an expert at any particular skill. That’s why I like him… he’s not a superhero.. he gets beat up, or makes mistakes. He does dumb things or fails sometimes… he’s like the original John McClaine before he turned ridiculous in DH4-5.. I like Dinn because he’s just a resourceful guy who happens to be in the right time and place and is willing to work hard to take advantage of a good opportunity.

I’m curious about how things will be going with Bo Katan because it sounds like she’s at rock bottom right now, and there is the possibility that she might want to get back the dark saber so that she can become mandalore again; she didn’t look all that happy when she saw Din with the dark saber after fighting Gideon.
