The Mandalorian Episode 2 S3 BREAKDOWN - IT EXISTS!!

  • As they walk through the mines, Mando picks up a dusty Mandalorian helmet, when he’s captured by a large cyborg with a general grievous looking organic eye. Super cool concept whoever came up with this and then got it approved did a great job. I loved this, had some old revenge of the sith concept art vibes. He moves like Grievous, and is literally just a brain with one eye, the rest is mecahnical. Whatever this creature is, he has some very high end cybernetics, akin to Grievous’s.
Grogu tries to free mando with the force but fails and so Din tells Baby Yoda to go get Bo Katan. Now some people in the live stream chat were wondering why he didn’t say go get Boba Fett, but I would say because there’s less explanation needed with Bo Katan and the fact that Bo knows Mandalore well.
As Baby Yoda grabs her attention by landing, they head in her ship, the Gauntlet Starfighter.
Landing back on Mandalore, she tells Grogu it didn’t always look like this you know, as they land down and go find Mando, heading deep into the mines. Taking her helmet off as she stares at what has become of Mandalore. She says this once was a beautiful city, and that her family laid claim to it all…now it’s just a tomb. She’s quite aware of her surroundings as she pushes Grogu aside and blasts down some Allamites. We see how proficient she is as a fighter and mandalorian as she makes quick work of them without the dark saber at her side.
Heading into the general grievous 2.0’s lair where mando is being held, she fights him and then summons the dark saber as she ignites it and moves so smooth and swiftly around unlike Din Djarin who wields it like it’s Thor’s heavy hammer and he’s unworthy as heck.
Bo beats the creature twice, once in his grievous form, and then again in his mecha warrior suit. The Dark saber is rumored to be more powerful than a lightsaber blade, but who knows for sure in canon.
She seems inspired or perhaps has a nefarious plan behind this but tells Din she’ll take him to the springs he seeks for atonement. Grogu pfffts which tells me he doesn’t trust Bo, he can probably feel her nefarious feelings perhaps.
She says the empire set out to punish them to wipe away their memory of their glorious planet. Bo says what’s painful is not that the empire destroyed them, but rather the civil wars they endured for centuries, leading to the weakness for the Empire to break them.
Bo admits as a child she went to the springs to play but as her royal family would have her do, she would publicly recite the mandalorian tenets infront of large crowds. Mandalorian people loved to see their princess do so. The Mandalorian tenets, also known as the Resol'nare, are a set of core principles that define what it means to be a Mandalorian. The six tenets include: wearing armor, speaking the language of Mandoa, defending oneself and family, raising children as Mandalorians, contributing to the clan's welfare, and answering the call to action from the Mandalore.
Mando tells her he wishes to have met her father, and that he died defending mandalore. Mando pauses and says this is the way. She realizes how patriotic Mando is, and she seems to like it. I think there’s a bit of a chemistry here perhaps, but a love hate relationship perhaps.
They arrive at the living waters, and it’s a dark dungy looking place now. She reads the plaque and it states that this is the place of the great mythosaur, that mandalore the great was able to tame the mythical beast. It is said that if a mandalorian rides a mythosaur, they control all mandalore and mandalorians. I think it even goes beyond the authority of the dark saber. Personally, I think Mandalore the great is just the new canon version of mandalore the ultimate. Mandalore the Great was an ancient Mandalorian ruler who led the Mandalorians in a series of conflicts against the Jedi Order.
As Din walks into the water and recites his vow as a mandalorian and the creed, Bo looks on in admiration of his loyalty and passion for Mandalorians. She seems like she really respects it, as he recites and walks further, he drops like a sack of bricks in the water all the way to the bottom surface where Bo grabs him and as she blasts back up to the surface with Mando, she passes a GIANT creature, a mythosaur thought to be extinct!
So the Mythosaur still exists. This means rule over Mandalore is still possible if one is to tame the creature, which is exactly what I think Bo Katan will do. She may tame the beast, use it to defeat Din and take the dark saber for herself.
A funny theory is if Grogu uses beast control to tame the beast, making him the leader of Mandalore, or perhaps Din if he tells the Mythosaur to answer to him.

The Armorer also did mention back in Season 1, that if ever the Mythosaur appears once more, it will herald a new age/era for Mandalore and its people. Not to mention that Kuill told Din that the Mandalorians rode the Mythosaurs while training him to ride bluurgs. Season 1 alone foreshadows this very moment.
Plus the entire episode is basically showing Din taking both a walk and leap of faith. Not only he did have faith on going to Mandalore despite what everyone said, he did have faith in both Grogu and Bo when he is in dire need. This alone shows that he has faith in others just as he did with The Creed.

Bo katan was such a real one this episode. Bitter about her situation and abandoned by her people for not being the wielder of the darksaber but she didn't even blink when it came to saving Din. As soon as Bo read that plauge I knew a Mythosaur was going to be in the water. So freaking cool. And I believe Bo's faith was somewhat restored this episode. Seeing Dins commitment to the creed, then seeing the mythosaur, I think she see's a future for mandalore now. Before she thought that future wasn't possible but now she see's it. And I wonder if Dinn will seek guidance from Bo about the darksaber and how to wield it. Cause she does with ease. Effortlessly, looking like a pro. Mabey she helps him get better with it. I don't think she will be the villain this season. I see this season going into Mandalorian lore and history and ultimately bringing the clans and different sects together finally. Long shot considering the history of civil war between them. There were brief periods of peace but not long term. I hope we learn more about the curse, and if there is one. But I hope we see Mandalore and the Mandalorians come together. And rebuild the planet slowly. Under the leadership of Dinn the wielder of the darksaber.

It’s truly fascinating to experience the golden age of Star Wars again, we will appreciate this chapter as long as it lasts. The amount of love that’s gone into character and deep storytelling for the show really gets me excited about Star Wars again. The immersion and deep lore, to exploring Mandalor, seeing Bo Katan, and her story development(absolutely paying tribute to fans), the mythasaur, it’s truly a cinematic journey. I like the direction this part of Star Wars is going. I trust that Favreau and Faloni has Star Wars in the best of hands.

@@disguisedcentennial835 yeah I feel your side man. We’ve been pretty trashed as it was since Disney bought Star Wars. Rogue one was probably the only theatrical hit. I did like rebels, Jedi: fallen order, clone wars, andor, bad batch, force awakens, and parts of last Jedi.
They have a great rich story to them that took me patience and time to appreciate them because of Falonis Magic, Favreaus good interest in fans, JJ Abrams failed ambitions, and Johnson’s stupidity ultimate failure. I’d rather appreciate the simplicity of it all since we’ve also grown up now.
There was a lot of beauty to the good Star Wars experience (I can only speak for my own) as a kid. This Star Wars is not for us anymore, we had ours growing up.
Now it’s time for the new generation, we can only only enjoy the bits and pieces of what we once loved about Star Wars, for me it is the original trilogy, unashamedly the prequel trilogy and the animated/live action spin-offs.

    Great episode!
Bo-Katan had become complacent and cynical about the whole mandalorian culture.
Watching Din taking the whole creed so seriously was almost humorous to her because she saw it divide mandalorians for so long.
She saw all the myths as stories for children and watching Din walk into the water reminded her of how seriously Mandalorians need to take their culture.
Her seeing the mythosoar restored faith in her culture and values in being a mandalorian. She was taken by surprise and shaken up that all the myths were true by seeing the mythosoar, restoring faith in her culture.
I don’t think she was trying to trick Din at all (she could have left him but she dove straight in with no hesitation). She was trying to prove a point that it’s nothing special.

The whole show has been building up to the moment where the characters reconcile with themselves and each other and break free from rigid tradition. Din Djarin took off his helmet to both rescue and then say Goodbye to Grogu, and Grogu himself chose to go back to Din Djarin knowing he'd be cutting off his Jedi training short with Luke (much like how Luke did in Empire Strikes Back.)
The show also has done a good job building up the Darksaber as being a representation of everything wrong with "the old ways" of the Mandalorians; the civil wars, the back-stabbing, the hate and aggression. I hope by the end of Season 3, Bo Katan and Din Djarin do indeed set aside their differences after a tense stand-off...but Din Djarin wins (just barely) and comes to the conclusion that much like the "never remove your helmet" rule, the Darksaber is toxic and corrupt and pulls a Lord of the Rings and casts it into a pool of lava, destroying it once and for all.
It is heavily implied to be a Dark Side weapon, what with it literally being dark and called "The Darksaber." Tar Visla may have turned to the Dark Side when he originally crafted it, meaning its Dark Side influence has hung like a heavy shadow over the Mandalorian people ever since.

Much like how the Jedi Order fell because they had become so corrupted by blind dogmatism, hypocrisy and willingness to do shady things for an even more corrupt government, so too were the Mandalorians divided over conflicting ideals and in-fighting. I’ve think many of us have theorized at this point that Din Djarin is going to essentially be the Mandalorian Messiah. The one who reunites the clans and reclaims their Homeworld. That’s actually why I think the Dark Saber is so heavy for him. A lot of people thought it had to do with his attachment to Grogu, and that might be part of it, but I think it’s mainly because he’s not yet ready for the responsibility that sword carry’s with it. To wield the Dark Saber is to shoulder a heavy burden, and I don’t believe it’s one Din ever wanted. I doubt he see’s himself as a leader, just a loyal Mandalorian. Still, him having the Dark Saber and now rediscovering the Mythosaur. Seems like the perfect opportunity to bring together the Children of the Watch, Bo-Katan, and all the other Mandalorians scattered throughout the galaxy.

@@michaelwachendorf2096 Very true, but she wouldn’t have been down had she not been with Din. 😉 and her wielding the Dark Saber with ease is actually one of the things that gave me the idea. Bo wants to lead, she is ready to lead, she wants that responsibility. Whereas Din still has a lot to learn and overcome before he can bear the weight of that sword. I actually really like the idea that Din and Bo could end up together as the King and Queen of Mandalore. I wasn’t shipping them at first, but having gone back and watched their scenes together with that in mind, I could definitely see the possibility of a romance between them. Also, once the Armorer finds out that Mandalore is inhabitable, what's to stop her from trying to take it over for herself and the Children of the Watch? They're clearly well-organized whereas all the other factions are scattered like stars. Din and Bo will have to work together to rally the other factions against the Children of the Watch imo. So I'd like to point out a couple of things I've observed. If you go back to the Mando episode with Ahsoka and her battle with the chick and the beskar spear. When her lightsabers were against the spear for a long time the spear didn't appear to heat up at all. In the season 2 finale during the battle scene between Mando and Moff Gideon. When the darksaber made contact with the beskar spear for longer periods of time you could visually see the area of the beskar spear glowing red hot. So the darksaber definitely has a higher temperature than at least the pure white sabers Ahsoka wielded. I'm not sure how the other saber colors would compare but I'd assume since most of the Jedi sabers are very similar to each other. Unless.. in Rebels we saw two things, saber length controls and saber strength controls. Perhaps if the saber strength controls are bumped up too high the saber becomes too unstable. So that would require a balance of length and strength. Knowing this could we theorize the crystal of the darksaber can operate at a much higher strength than the lightsabers of the Jedi without sacrificing the length. Might be interesting on why we haven't seen lightsaber daggers before. Well I haven't, perhaps someone else has.
Now to my next thought. In the season 2 finale, after Mando defeats Moff Gideon. We can see Mando escorting the Moff into the bridge with the saber on. He didn't appear to be struggling with it at that point. He turned it off then attempted to give it to Bo. At that point and after, he has been struggling with it ever since. Maybe the darksaber can detect the internal conflict within Din? Just like it did with Sabine. Because in the Rebels episode where she trains with it she mentions how heavy it is. Then it becomes lighter when her internal conflict is finally confronted and resolved. From this we could theorize Din has an internal conflict that needs to be resolved? Wait, let me backtrack a moment. Din doesn't struggle with the darksaber until after he breaks his creed by taking off his helmet! That's his internal conflict! What if after his redemption he no longer struggles to wield the darksaber? This would explain a lot! It's not the darksaber Din would be struggling with, it's his own internal conflict which the darksaber brings out of the wielder. Yes I know Bo was very efficient with the darksaber but she knows who she is and such but what if after seeing the Mythosaur she starts to have an internal conflict for herself now? Because she's starting to become a believer instead of just the spoiled princess who did it to not embarrass her father. This could get very interesting!
Anyways, my apologies for this long comment. But I actually thought of some of it as I was typing it up and didn't want to erase what I had already typed.

With this theory in mind, even if Bo becomes the rightful owner of the saber, I still think she and Din will together serve as a symbol of unity to the people. Also, Grogu will be like their adopted child and will be the prince of Mandalore. He will also be the first Jedi-mandalorian in thousands of years. I hope not. Can’t we have a male and female pairing that aren’t romantically involved? Especially considering Bo Katan is 15-20 years older than Din?

The fact that I’ve always been such a huge fan of the mandolorians , seeing a live mythosaur was honestly one of my top ten Star Wars moments , incredible

My thought on the Darksaber is that its a hybrid of a Jedi Lightsaber and a vibrosword which could explain the sounds it makes and the blade even looks like a vibroblade.

Love your recaps, gotta watch em immediately after seeing the episode. The thought of Grogu taming the mythosaur hadn't occurred to me yet but I havn't had that mind blown feeling in quite awhile.

Did anyone else think it was hilarious right when Mando is going into the "living waters" and says "The words of the creed shall be forever forged in my heart," and then he quickly shoots down into water like a torpedo?🤣🤣

Seeing mandalore again, and hearing Bo Katan speak about the shift in culture from her father I really hope we get to see some flashbacks on Satins youth. She must have been so determined and strong that she got this warrior society into the ways of peace.

I definitely thought we were gonna get some back story on how Satine ran things. So excited where they are going with the story. Very interested in Bo Katans perspective ijn how the mandalorians will move forward with the planet. Din and Bo and Grogu is going to be an excellent storyline
