  • Want to level up your workspace? If your computer's display isn't on an articulating arm, you're missing out! It's genuinely one of the best and simplest upgrades I've ever done. It's great for anyone who wants to clear up some desk space, add some versatility, or spruce up a work from home setup.

    Awesome Tom! As a fellow articulating arm user, I agree with all your sentiments on why having one is so much better for a workflow. I also love that in this video you didn't necessarily focus on this specific brand of arm, even though you did talk about it and why you purchased it. Instead, you showed the typical features of an articulating arm, which for the most part is the same or similar on many brands - thus hitting home your mission focus as always of "leveling up" your audio and video. Thanks again for a great start to my morning! 👍🏼

    • @tombuck
      @tombuck  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That you for _articulating_ your thoughts so clearly! I am super happy with this specific arm, but I know there are lots of great brands out there, this is just what I went with. Like you said, it's more about the idea than the specific item.

    Great video! I have been using a desk mounted articulating mount for my monitors for years. I upgraded to a 49” Samsung G9 in January so my old mount just didn’t handle the extra weight. Bought the Ergotron HX mount with the heavy duty tilt. It’s amazing but pretty expensive. Bigger monitors, especially those with a aggressive curve, are to heavy for any other mount I have seen. Keep the videos coming, I watch them all!

    Ever since I got an ultrawide display I knew I wanted to eventually get a mount for it. When I had my brother build me a custom wood desk, the depth wasn't as long as my Ikea desk so I needed the space. I have a 29inch ultrawide and the extra space I have with the stand being off the desk has been a game-changer. I also like that it allows me to position the display at a much better height. I've also thought about getting one of those under-desk mounts for my mac mini but none of them will also fight the hagibis hub, but I may eventually do something like that as well. One other cool thing I was able to do with my monitor arm was that I attached a friction arm to it and mount my camera that way. I was worried it would not be strong enough but the M50 is so light and the arm tightens on there pretty tight that it's been perfect.

    I use TWO monitor arms, one for my 27" monitor and one for my Glide Gear Teleprompter. I don't use the teleprompter for text, I use it as a second monitor when I'm recording video or, especially when I'm using Zoom. I put the person/people I'm talking with on the teleprompter. As someone who has used monitor arms for over 15 years:
    I recommend mounting the arm to a wall or post instead of the desk whenever that is an option.
    The little jiggles caused by typing get amplified by the monitor arm and can be very annoying. Mounting the arm to a different structure completely eliminates that problem. Also having the monitors off the desk makes it much easier to reorganize your desk.

    • @tombuck
      @tombuck  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      A wall would definitely be cool if possible, but in my case, it isn't since the desk is sort of in the middle of an open space. I will say though that I haven't had any issues with the monitor wobbling on this arm. Not sure if that's because of the desk being sturdy or the arm being heavy duty, but it's great. I did have wobbles when using the monitor on its default stand though.

    Hi Tom. Just redesigned my studio and, I swear, you're going to bankrupt me :-). I have bought just about every piece of gear you recommend, including the articulating monitor arm and that curved LG monitor. Question, what lens do you use on your front (main) camera and where and how is it mounted?

    • @tombuck
      @tombuck  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for the kind words and please give my condolences to your bank account 😬
      Since May, my main lens has been the Sony 24mm 1.4 on a tripod on the other side of my desk (it's about an arm's length away from me). Prior to that I used the Sigma 24mm 1.4, which was equally outstanding.

    Thanks for the review. I have a question, it might seem silly but I know nothing about these things. I have very little desk space. It's about 4 feet long, but only about 2 feet deep. I'm getting a 34-inch monitor and I really don't want it that close to my face. Does the monitor arm you purchase swing outward? Ideally, I'm looking for one that can be pushed back (or outward) about 12 inches off of the desk, so I don't go blind. It's cheaper to get this arm than you buy a whole new desk. Thank in advance for your help.

    • @tombuck
      @tombuck  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a great question! Yes, since this arm (and pretty much all monitor arms) rotate freely on their base, you can push them away from you. It can sometimes be a little tricky to get the angles just right and to keep the cables from getting tangled, but it's not too bad.

      Using an application like Loopback is the way to go. It lets you create virtual audio devices and route sources any which way you want within your computer. I have a video on using Loopback with Ecamm, but the process with OBS should be basically the same.

    Anyone notice the reviews from the link he shared to Amazon? Most of the reviews title "Does Not Hold Weight As Advertised." This product has issues with tension and either out of the box or over time loses it's tension. I'm a bit skeptic on this.

      @@tombuck I understand. I normally weigh in the reviews and determine if I will end up in the same boat. What I do like is the fact I can swivel and install where it doesn't stick against the wall. My desk is in a custom built studio. I would hate for the arm to poke against the foam or having to pull my desk back. I will trust you and purchase. I hope I don't end up returning.

    • @tombuck
      @tombuck  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Positioning can always be tricky. As you can see in the video, my desk isn’t up against the wall, so that makes it easier. If you have a nice custom desk, you might want to out a small pad or piece of foam under the part that clamps on the top just to protect it.
      All that being said, I move and reposition mine constantly throughout the day and after two months it’s still working great.
