My Thoughts on the Nightreign Announcement Trailer

- Me describing some of my thoughts and concerns regarding the recent announcement trailer for Elden Ring Nightreign. Keep in mind, I only have the trailer to go off of, and could be dead wrong here. I'm only speculating based on what we have so far.
Special thanks to GameChops for letting me use their music:
• SOULS & CHILL - Elden ...
How dare they work on a smaller project on the side that they can put out quickly while they work on their big next project? The nerve! There are few fanbases as moronic as the souls fanbase, I swear.
Brother, we waited 2 years for SOTE and it was half baked slop, then 6 months later we get what looks to be a premium mod. I'm only skeptical that there is a "next big project" and not 26 more pieces of unrefined trash. That's all. I think Nightreign itself is going to be fun, but if you're confidence in From hasn't been shaken lately, then you're not paying attention
@@jesterofjuice5132 Really? "Half-baked slop?" You'd really go so far as to call it that? That's fuckin HARSH bro. I don't agree with every design decision they made either, but... damn.
@@launcelotdulake8075 Yeah, nothing to see here other than some whack-ass salt.
@@launcelotdulake8075”Half-baked slop” is an absolutely adequate description of SotE.
@jesterofjuice5132 SotE was peak
FromSoft announces ONE fun small spinoff game and you immediately assume they’ve sold out, and that they’re on their downfall, like man, why can’t we celebrate a studio who has released banger after banger for over a decade for stepping out of their comfort zone and trying something new. It’s a really good thing that Miyazaki has given direction to someone else (the same guy who led the combat design since DS1) and it’s a good thing that a game studio has the ability to take risks.
Brother, I beg you to read some of Miyazaki’s interviews, you would gain some insight that you’re clearly oblivious to.
From will release a turd and you fanbois will eat it all up. It's fortnite level slop.
They will kill support of Elden Ring for this "fun little spin off". So instead of getting at least some scraps on their way out to the next project (like 6 player session and TT rework) we get this slop.
Keep on coping.
@@Chris-sm2uj chill chris the game hasn't even come out yet
@@Nobody32990 uhhh okay bro 👍
Brother, this is a DLC being sold as a "brand new" game, on top of the fact that both the base game and SotE could benefit from a little more polish work before leaving them to rot.
I think you are really harsh on the DLC and only talk about negative aspects. A lot of bosses were great, we got a lot of new awesome weapons and armor, the art directions and design were phenomenal, I liked the lore and the music was amazing. The only problems that I had, were slightly barren areas (I can get over that), some reused enemies, Radahn and maybe the scadutree fragment system (witch is fine I guess).
i dont think so at all. SoTE and ds1 are the only games that I've ever played that have ever left me feeling genuinely depressed. perhaps you are less sensitive, or less concerned with gameplay, or how gameplay works into developing a feeling within you, but that's all I've come to enjoy from these games. and whenever they actively spit in your face and learn nothing from their masterpieces, I tend to think very negatively of them
@@JohnSmith-u6jyeah everyone who enjoyed the DLC must just not care 😂 what an egocentric opinion lmao
@@tni333 its moreso an informed one. Rewatch his video on SoTE, im not going to recap it for you on why I think the gameplay and how it works into your characters motivations does not work, or is just entirely empty
@@JohnSmith-u6j my man. You can have your opinion. But saying anyone who doesn’t share it „just doesn’t care“ is plain self-absorbed. There’s lots of people who care and enjoyed the fuck out of the DLC. Multiple people can have different valid opinions.
@@tni333 is it wrong for people to care about different things. I have apathy towards the graphics in the last stand UC, does that make my opinion of enjoying the game inherently wrong? The point im trying to make here though, is that it would be quite silly to say you liked a game for things that it otherwise doesn't have. it doesn't necessarily mean the game or product isn't good (in this case it does, but that's not what we're arguing on)
I'm cautiously optimistic. Fromsoft is my favorite game company, but they have made games I wasn't over the moon with. I guess my concerns are balancing for single player and overall cycle of gameplay. Honestly, I'd prefer a sequel to AC6, but that's just me.
Recyclomania and cash grab. But the worst of all is gaslighting that Miyazaki didn't lie. That was an obvious marketing ploy. He said it just a few days before the reveal to magnify the impact of the reveal.
Tbh it's hard for me to care about nightreign after that DLC. It was fun to watch someone reacting to the game awards say it looks like ass right before noticing it was more elden ring to do a 180 of kissing From's ass, you can tell they fear the backlash of the viewers.
Exactly
who?
@@drifter6870 i think you are right for some, but i do believe fromsoft's name is enough to change perspectives. The have a good reputation after all.
@@konstantinosmoschos1050 not for long
I was initially disappointed with the reveal, but aftet digesting it for a while the fact that Nightreign can be played solo and provides a fresh 45 minute experience with randomised terrain, monsters, bosses is actually pretty exciting to me, since I'm a player who doesn't really do 2nd playthroughs and just kind of aimlessly wanders around after I've beaten a big RPG. I wanted a boss rush mode or menu in Elden Ring but this might be even better since it's adding new innovations to combat (see: that character at 9:20 breaking enemy posture with a deflect like in Sekiro, you can't do that with the deflect tear in ER), always a new environment and in bite-sized chunks, not like a playthrough of 100ish hours where you know where everything is and nothing is a surprise.
All in all, I actually quite like it as a souls vet, the narrative and atmosphere of a game is nice but it's only new once. Combat can be infinitely interesting, that's why people load up counterstrike and similiar games for like literally 10,000 hours and not get bored. Nice little release to tide us over before the actual Miyazaki and A-team directed masterpiece, even though I do understand people's concerns about repackaging assets and selling it as a new game, and the borrowing of mechanics from cashgrab type battle royale games might make it seem like Fromsoft is turning towards the dark side. (Even though I don't think they are.)
Personally I never played the souls games for the combat since thats the weakest part of the games. I did play it for the unique bosses (old monk, Maiden Astrea) and interconnected world. With Elden ring Nightreign it looks like Fromsoft went: what is popular right now? Battle royale’s and Roguelites! Lets combine that and put in nostalgia bait bosses explained away by Multiverses
@@DionPanday If it was a game made by Miyazaki and the A-team, and not a project for a new developer (Junya Ishizaki) to cut his teeth on I'd be more concerned. Re: the combat stuff, I defo appreciate both the world design and atmosphere of souls as well, I just see this as a way for Fromsoft to refine their combat in a low-risk, low-budget game. Experimenting with adding true sekiro style deflects, the grappling hook from one of the chars, probably a decent bunch of combat innovations in the chars not shown in the playtests either. I recently went back and beat Bloodborne (long time coming) and the world and general vibe was fantastic, but I was so used to faster and more complex combat from the more recent entries that I steamrolled most bosses in a couple tries. I think a game is just so much more enhanced when it depicts a hostile, decaying world and it genuinely challenges you mechanically as well, and it seems like SOTE has shown how creaky the combat is now when faced vs. bosses like Consort Radahn - the next big entry needs to innovate imo. (Also, no shade on Bloodborne intended, love that game.)
@@YakuzaGoon i mean Elden ring combat even in shadow of the erdtree is still miles behind games like Bayonetta, Metal hear rising, God hand , Devil may cry and Ninja Gaiden. And that was fine because the combat was never the focus of the series. It was about actually thinking about your approach to tackle a certain situation or a boss instead of just pressing the dodge button a few hundred times. Its like if Mario games started to focus on really big epic plotlines and super intricate lore. Never did I think fromsoft fans would defend an obvious cash grab that chases current trends but here we are. Wouldnt it be better if the resources that were spent on this game were actually used to make the real games and dlc better?
@@DionPanday
I'm not as excited for Nightreign as I would be a proper fromsoft IP, I'm simply saying it's an experiment to sharpen up a core part of the games, Miyazaki is likely working on the next big entry, and I don't mind having smaller entries in the years where they don't release anything. The team that made this is very likely not the team that'd be working on the next big Fromsoft game. It's obviously not as cool as say, a Bloodborne 2 or Sekiro 2 announcement which are games with alot of cool aspects beyond combat.
In regards to the combat not being a main focus, combat is how the player character primarily interacts with the world, it's not like you could convince Miquella that you wouldn't obstruct this plans to become Lord via dialogue or something in SOTE, and various other major plot points where there should be other ways to deal with the situation other than combat. I don't disagree that Fromsoft games are about more than the combat nor do I not value atmosphere and narrative - my favourite games are the Yakuza entries by RGG studio which have pretty easy combat but fantastic characters and themes - but combat is a very core ingredient and it needs to be sharp.
It's also about linking the narrative and the gameplay together. Let's think of a game about a dangerous, post-apocalyptic world and the primary way the player interacted with it was via combat, but imagine if the combat was pressing 1 button to kill any enemy and they did no damage to you - would you really be convinced that the world was dangerous, would you really feel it? Sure, you could be told via narrative means, but it wouldn't be as emotionally compelling as if every enemy could wreck you.
Re: the ER combat being worse than those mentioned games and barely more advanced than the combat in demon's souls is precisely why I hope they'll be improving it with the experimentation in this entry that should have knock-on effects on their games in development - there's more than one way to make the actual entries better. They also did similiar experimentation with armored core entries like AC: Nine Breaker that focused more on arena mode.
@@DionPanday But what if I don't like the combat style of games like Bayonetta, DMC etc. ?
Elden Ring combat goes in a different direction. It doesn't have to be like these games at all to be really good.
ERs combat is confined but complex with a high skill ceiling.
You can't really compare the two though because they're very different. One combat system is player focused (DMC) one is enemy focused.
There's not a dozen different ways to initiate an air combo or something but I wouldn't want that at all either.
What I want is something like the Beastclaw R2, that makes me duck an attack and simultaneously attack and like a dozen other options that can be used for other things, because that's what makes this game so great and why I personally prefer it over the games you describe.
Im okay with it tho that dlc felt a bit too bare for them to have a whole other spinoff game in the tuck like this
i think Elden Ring 2 with Sekiro combat and DS3 bosses is just the laziest thing ever😭😭😭
Bro ? Fromsoft is only working on 5 projects , the 26 thing is from kadokawa as a whole
Good call, my mistake. Like I said, I made this video quickly. I was going off of memory and opinion. I still stand by the sentiment that they're working on more projects than ever before and therefore we should expect a dip in quality, but getting the info mixed up was a dumb mistake on my part.
Everyone always doubts before they release a souls game and when it releases everyone takes it all back time and time again
tbf that didnt happen with sote and the response was relatively lukewarm
Holy smokes this channel went downhill, it used to have interesting perspectives & informative thoughts, now it's only feeding on the extreme negativity since SOTE's release, I mean it was negative back then but not THIS negative, and I don't agree with most of your points, they are absurd, can't From Software make bite-sized games while they're working on the bigger games? Bigger games now take time, From Software has never been a roll like that ever, and you're sitting here complaining "why no big game?" lol
They literally released Elden Ring, by far their biggest game ever, it's Dark Souls 4 & Bloodborne 2 combined, in 2022, then in 2023 came Armored Core 6, then in 2024 we got a phenomenal expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree, a DLC that is bigger than many full games out there, we're not even 6 months away from SOTE & we're getting the Beta for Nightreign in February 2025.
From Software's collective quality & quantity output since 2022 is at their peak, especially now when developing games has gotten more complex & time-consuming, they weren't like that before, so I hope you understand the situations & the realities of video game development in the 2020s.
Your analysis before were actually actually bullseye, now you are becoming off-track. Now you bring up very weird esoteric perspectives that do not adhere to reality. I'm afraid your channel might become "From Software is good but this is bad bad bad bad & that thing is bad" critique slop.
I'm sorry but I just completely disagree. I'm not sure what I said that made you think I care so much about the size of the game, when I thought I had made it clear, that I was talking about quality.
I absolutely love elden ring, so we're at least on the same page with that one, but armored core 6 disappointed me. Because it was made with so little detail and so many reused assets and setpieces. Shadow disappointed me because it was huge mess that lacked any thought behind its design, a giant collection of unique assets, that are implemented in wasteful ways, with far too many sloppily made bosses that lack the technical excellence of many in the main game.
and now we have Nightreign, which hasn't even dropped yet, and so I'll reserve my real judgment till then as far as the title goes. But it can be assumed that this is essentially a "copy and paste" game. Which I think is fair to say, is concerning, and that's the only real point I was attempting to make.
I'm worried that Fromsoft has stagnated, and until I see something substantial, that worry won't be going anywhere. Nightreign looks fun, but it's absolutely not substantial, based on the trailer.
@@jesterofjuice5132 Well to each their own, I simply disagree on SOTE being a huge mess, far from it, it has the least amounts of repeats in From's history (we CERTAINLY don't wanna talk about the base game about that...), finally they had a freaking amazing dragon boss in Elden Ring (Bayle), a complete leveling system that encourages exploration, which is one of the core aspects that made Elden Ring tick, and I don't see what's different here by collecting Scadutree Fragments & Revered Spirit Ashes, when in base game we had to collect Sacred Tears & Golden Seeds, SOTE's Forges & caves are substantially better designed than any cave in base game, they are deeper & much more comprehensive than the ones in base game, at least they had unique enemies JUST for those areas without repeating another slop mini boss at the end of every freaking cave like base game, you can obviously see the massive upgrade in cave designs, DLC has a way better world design (more vertical & condensed) with more unique bespoke areas pound-per-pound compared to base game & less of those flat open-fields, at least you had to think how to traverse through the Land of Shadow, that alone is a very rewarding experience, its main bosses are just as technically excellent as base game lol, you're talking about them as if they're made by an indie studio or something, just very irrational thought & opinions, only problems are the camera sometimes against Dancing Lion & the fire bouncing off the rock walls in Bayle's fight, and here you are saying in your own video that Bayle is "peak" even though he has "technical problems" which makes bossses in your terms, "horrible & sloppily made", just irrational cobbled-together thoughts with no substantial evidence to back them up, the DLC bosses are excellent overall, they stand toe-to-toe with base game bosses IMO & they do not hone in too much on the difficulty like you were exaggerating, people have gotten over the difficulty, the bosses are terribly easy now, they are mastered by most, yes even Consort Radahn, a boss which relies too much on roll-roll-slop for my taste, and we have much easier bosses like Putrescent Knight, Romina, Midra & Scadutree Avatar, your analysis on the DLC boss difficulty is disingenuous & omits many other bosses which are on easier side, and hey since when were base game bosses easier? You remember how difficult end-game base game bosses were? They were harder for me when I first fought them than DLC bosses have ever been, except Consort Radahn, but that's me I guess...
"Shadow disappointed me because it was huge mess that lacked any thought behind its design"
It's comments like this that makes me question if the person behind this account is a different one or not and if you're forced to read someone else's script or else something rather bad might happen to you, in what world would make you think that SOTE lacks any thought behind its design? Holy smokes the world design, the lore, how everything is related, how the areas were designed & how they are connected to each other, did Gravesite Plains lack any thought? What? It's like this is what SOTE actually excelled at better than the base game could ever do, which is environmental storytelling, you forgot the Shaman Village? Like how Shadow Keep essentially is the heart of the DLC that is connected by 5 different areas? Or the fact that the Cerulean Coast is a place that takes you to the Finger Ruins & the fact that there's a big hole on the ground that takes you to the Stone Coffin Fissure that leads you to the Putrescent Knight & St. Trina which is a huge lore revelation that connects to Miquella & Radahn? How tragic Messmer's story was? How good the OST is & how all of them strongly tie to the bosses' stories? I could go on & on...
This is why I question your thoughts & opinions, it's not because you disagree with me or "Waaaah you bashed my beloved game!!" No, it's opinions like this that do not have much logical thought into them nor validity or good reasons behind them, it's almost like your thoughts are lacking on the DLC, not the other way. Sorry for coming off too aggressive.
There's alot of landmasses in SOTE I never care to revisit. The red and blue flowered fields. The finger valleys. The madness woods w/ 0 caves to explore. The Ringed City can be revisited endless times.
There's alot in SOTE, but it's a giant meal I dont wanna finish. I'd rather have a wonder meal while craving more, which is exactly the state FromSoft had us in prior to SOTE.
Im torn honestly, I was really disappointed by Shadow of the Erdtree with how empty it felt. Then I saw this get announced and saw a lot of assets I know from previous games; and theres nothing wrong with asset reuse, I just feel like this might be the start of Elden Ring “slop” for newer fans of FromSoftware since they might not be so keen to identify said assets. Ive actually been thinking about this a lot since Nightreign got announced, I think personally I praised FromSoftware so much because each new game they put out really did innovate their formula. Elden Ring being the epitome of their innovation. Im open to the idea of a new IP putting me in a trance same way as Dark Souls did way back, but Nightreign just seems like an offshoot to a very comfortable place for FromSoft
This feels like such a “capitalism bad even if they’re making a good thing” argument.
Elden Ring was a huge success, they got a small outside team to do an asset flip in a really innovative way. What other soulslike has a roguelike element? There’s a few stand alone games (that are mid at best) but this is genuinely innovative and you’re selling it as the series being dead for not innovating.
How can this simultaneously be a huge departure for Fromsoft and them refusing to innovate or create something new.
Honestly? This is exactly the game I wanted them to make. The combat of a souls game, but in smaller playable chunks I can tackle with friends. And it’s being marketed that why by being a stand alone game at a lower price.
What an unserious person. “Astro bot won game of the year, and I wanted shadow to win but also it’s bad”. Seriously this is some goof shit. Erdtree was fine but not GOTY worthy and Astrobot is a legitimately good platformer. MF’er you really aren’t doing a great job deflecting the incel allegations.
Which is why I said concerning and not bad. I don't know if NightReign is going to be good or bad yet, but I know that shadow of the erdtree was bad. And if money is the major factor in Fromsoft's decision making, rather than a creative drive, as in my speculative claim that it was made by a B team, so they can start making 26 new games, then you would have to be an absolute moron to not realize that there will be a dip in quality of that content.
Also yeah, I am an unserious person, when I made the joke about astro bot, because it was a joke lol I don't really care about the game awards, but on a real note, Black Myth should have really won, for being culturally important, and having huge literary significance. Instead of the platformer that looks just like every single other platformer to ever release, except more bland
Just to clarify, it wasn't an outside team. The developer is listed as FromSoft and the director is Junya Ishizaki who's been working on From's main titles since DS1. The director is a talented guy, so this is definitely siphoning at least some of the company's resources; let's hope Nightreign is worth it.
You really shouldnt be calling others incel when you look like that buddy 😂

Seeing the nameless kind really soured me. Like wtf are we even doing?
Are they that out of ideas that they have to dig up the corpse of darksouls for a "supersick epic badass" fanservice crossover? Are they gonna have solaire show up and say his "epic" catchphrase too?
Edit: and I just found out they have a new guy as game director (he has worked at from for other project but this is his *FIRST* time game directing) miss me with this fanservice cashgrab
The fact that you needed to ask like 10 questions in your comment should lead you to maybe shut up and grab more information before making all of these accusations.
I think this is just meant as a for fun spinoff game like something like Hyrule Warriors. Not meant to be taken too seriously. I for one am excited to fight new takes on old familiar faces. I don't really agree with the argument that bringing back old favorites is unnecessary fan service.
@@Jadizi just consume product and dont ask questions
@DionPanday If I like multiplayer roguelikes why wouldn't I consume it? Either way, the point is that he's made this whole pessimistic comment but knows virtually nothing about the game. Asking questions is a clear sign of a lack of knowledge, a lack of knowledge that he's using to pass sweeping judgment. How about try to be more logical and less pretentious?
@@Jadizi They're just cynical and jaded by the game industry, I can almost understand where they're coming from tbh.
I think this whole "B-Team" nonsense is really played out.
Ever since Dark Souls 2, "B-Team" has been the excuse whenever anything in a FromSoft game doesn't meet gamers' expectations. Everything from Dark Souls 2's leveling system to DS3's map design to Elden Ring's empty areas.
If you really want to look at the "B-Team," Armored Core 6 was made during the production of Elden Ring and Shadow of the Erdtree with only initial involvement from Miyakazi. It had a different director and is as far from the Souls formula as FromSoft has been in 12 years, and AC6 is a very solid, well-polished and compelling game.
"B-Team" just an excuse. There's no golden line-up of superstar devs at FromSoft. The studio is one entity. And the result of each project comes down to the leadership of the director.
I cant be the only one sick of Elden Ring. I'm ready for something new.
me too but since your already commenting this may i recommend you play a different genre of games? i can give you a few recs depending on what you like
I’d be completely OK with the souls roguelite concept if they weren’t desecrating the OG series. It feels like they’re undermining their own legacy for a quick cashgrab slapped together from reused assets and rejected ideas. Putting the nameless king (not even a reskin) in there is absolutely heinous.
Generally agree. The price is what puts the most sour taste in my mouth; I don't have anything against fan fiction, but generally fan fiction doesn't cost forty bucks.
Thanks for the video.
Whatever. Elden Ring was a good game but what I really want is a bloodborne sequel.
Never happening, least you’ll get is a remake. Which is also never happening.
@@hhowdy why? misalignment with Sony's incentive b/c it's such a niche game? I think that's where they really nailed it. Less RPG elements than souls but more than Sekiro. Better pacing of the combat. Chalice dungeons were a good idea and could easily be expanded upon. the storytelling was less direct than elden ring or sekiro, but more direct than dark souls. The atmosphere, art, style, and setting were unique and interesting. The narrative structure was highly unconventional and used very few tropes or cliches.
I really love that game. I hope the IP doesn't die, but I think you're probably right. On the other hand, nobody thought they'd release armored core 6 because it was also niche and lacked broad appeal in the same way bloodborne was. So maybe it'll be some random treat that gets announced in 2029.
Bloodborne is the greatest achievement of Fromsoft in my opinion. Bloodborne is like the moon landing. We were lucky to get it but we are never going back.
@@jaketinsley1987 i mean i disagree, but opinions i guess.
Unfortunately Sony owns all the right to the bloodborne IP and it just didn’t make them enough money for them to think it’s worth it. Shame cuz Bloodborne is one of the best games in the series.
I click the video and I am immediately ready to not take anything you say seriously by the fact that you think the DLC was half baked slop. Anything you say going forward is meaningless if your brain can't realize the amazing design of the DLC.
Who are you

Do you think you're cool for playing souls games or something? Bro really said " casual" as if souls has ever been a niche genre 💀
@@OknahidwinYes souls was very niche when it first released with Demons souls, wich is why it gained a cult following, because it released during a time when games held the players hand and Demons souls broke the mold.
@DionPanday wrong it never was. Demon souls isn't even a good game 💀. The future games are far far better and they have a much bigger following. None of these games are difficult
@@Oknahidwin I agree Sekiro , Bloodborne and Elden ring are all fairly easy games. Im just saying that Demons souls released during a time when games were so easy that it made it seem like Demon souls was harder than it actually is (Arkham asylum, Assasins creed 2, Modern warfare 2 etc.) and yes the future games had a bigger following because the games started out niche with Demons souls.
Or maybe we can acknowledge that there are people who like multiplayer roguelite games? Y'all call it a low quality cash grab because it isn't exactly what YOU want. Is this what the word brat means?
Cash grab by FS?

who told you they were working on 26 new titles???? please give me the source because I've only every heard they were working on "multiple"
Totally my bad. I was mixing up projects from Kadokawa, and not just Fromsoft. Like I said, this video was made quickly and kinda sloppy. My apologies
@jesterofjuice5132 no problem. but yeah, miyazaki is still working on his new project and that will be great and is probably the next game after this.
this one is a passion project if the new dev, it's not a cash grab, he had this idea and wanted to make it cone to life, I'm excited for it.
This channel is a magnet for troglodyte Elden ring fan boys that scream at all criticism
to be fair he has some very undercooked opinions, most of the time he certainly hits a nerve
I don’t understand the SOTE hate I loved it sure it’s not my favorite DLC in souls but I still appreciated more Elden ring when they didn’t have to give us anything
If you feel like this game is a step in the wrong direction for the company, why would you financially support it on release? Cognitive dissonance going crazy
I, too, am sceptical about this "game". I love fromsoft and their games, but dear God, i hate the elden ring dlc. It consists almost entirely of the base game reuses, and then they drop this thing? New game on the same map with the bosses we fought in their past games. Like, what the fuck is this? Miyazaki thinks he's John Marvel?
I'm sorry jester of juice I was not familiar with your game. you really did predict the slopification of elden ring
As a huge fromsoft fan i have absolutely zero intrest in this and was extremely let down we have waited 3 years for a new rpg instead get a damn rouge like with a bunch of assets from every other game they've ever made this is absolutely horrible and then so many people jumped on your shit because you aren't a weak-minded bandwagon fan if you don't just like everything they make someone talk shit I don't even think people think for themselves they just see that from software made a game so they convince themselves to like it but at the end of the day I feel like they are alienating their fan base if we like Rogue legs that's what we would be playing this is just not a good look on their part it's actually very refreshing finding somebody that's not afraid to think the same thing
1:55 Radahn absolutely has back punishes. Did we fight the same boss? He has insane tracking, sure, but he definitely has whipped a 180 on me many times before, especially in phase 2
Fromsoft is working on far less than 26 projects. That's definitely from Kadokawa in its entirety. Did you not even verify that before you said it? Kinda puts a damper on your entire argument, doesn't it?
Also God forbid they release a unique new concept, right? They release a cool, smaller scale game while they work on whatever their next mainline title is. Monster Hunter does the exact same thing all the time. How the hell is that selling out or getting comfortable with asset flipping for money? Ignoring the part where you admit this entire video is the result of you being a cynical asshole (astute self-observation, btw), Fromsoft has been on one hell of a run so far. Basically a flawless game catalogue since Demons Souls. You can dislike SOTE, but if your faith in Fromsoft as a whole has been shaken THIS hard by a near-universally acclaimed DLC, I think that speaks less about Fromsoft's issues and more about you being overtly critical and negative for the sake of being negative. Nightreign might not be everyone's cup of tea. Roguelikes are an acquired taste, but holy shit why is everyone being such a doom and gloomer about this?
I think bro has ptsd from the game industry. I feel like from is allowed to experiment. Especially if its not full priced content.
Locking myself into playing the DLC at NG+8 kinda ruined the DLC for me. As a souls vet I figured I would be fine but DAMN, did I get my ass kicked no matter how much I upgraded those stupid fragments lmao.
Sorry to inform you but DLC starts at 0 even when in ng+. DLC only gets a NG+ attached to it after you beat Radahn for the first time, look it up its litreally in the NG+ Article in the Wiki
I think we should trust fromsoft, this is naturally a much smaller project, but it truly seems like its one in the name of experimentation. This also isn't a souls game from what i understand, it just shares the same ip name with ER. Fromsoft is interested to making more games than just souls likes and i imagine this one will be a stepping stone to improve the combat of their next masterpiece as well.
I had all my faith in From when it came to SOTE. Elden ring is my favorite game of all time, and I was glued to the game while waiting for their dlc announcement, and then after the long final stretch to the release, I hated it.
It wasn't peak elden ring, it was something else, awkwardly attached to elden ring. I guess they just really broke my trust there, because everyone knows that Fromsoft DLCs are supposed to be where they shine the most. Where they refine their game to its nearly perfect form. And Shadow was in the absolute opposite direction in my opinion.
@jesterofjuice5132 i mean i cant understand that, cause personally i really enjoyed it. Though i respect the opinion. I do think they improved on a lot of stuff from the base game, like character quest design, dungeons, boss music, making the npcs more memorable and experimenting with many new weapon classes with new movesets. Not to mention Messmer and the shadow keep contend for the best boss and area in all of elden ring. I just think the fact that we didn't see a dlc that was exponentially better than the base game is a testament to how good base ER was. I understand the criticism, but losing hope is the penultimate sign of defeat. Never go hollow...
I actually agree with your sentiment in regard to shadow of the erdtree… but at some point if you switch off and take it at face value… it is just fun and comparatively better than alot of the slop that is being released in the modern era of gaming. Im aware that it is hard though because from soft has an impeccable legacy to follow.
I mostly did agree with his SOTE take but I agree with u as well I still had fun playing it. It was basically Elden ring but slightly worse in almost every aspect. But an Elden ring that’s a little worse is still relatively an amazing game. Somewhat related to that though, I never expected it to win GOTY and it shouldn’t have.
The fact gaming has been on the decline for years allows shadow of the turd tree to be "good" is all you need to know about the state of gaming. If DS2 was released for the first time right now it would be considered "good".
@@Alias0225 DS2 is now the Andrew Garfield Spider-Man of soulsborne where everyone hated it at first but suddenly apparently everyone likes it now lmao.
@@Alias0225Shadow of the Erdtree was excellent tho. You're likely younger than 20 tho, given your language.
not for me. the game looked good, but slightly garnished slop is still slop. and if anything this game did more than just leave me feeling disatisfied, it left me feeling disrespected, as if my time was not just wasted, but used to spite myself due to the sheer anger that these games give you. usually, it's all worth it, as in Sekiro. but elden ring represents the opposite, which makes it all the more terrible of a game. this is the first dlc I didn't finish when it comes to side content
I'm just not really fond of playing pre-made characters, that's the only bit that really bothers me, I really enjoy character creators and builds it's why I couldn't get into Sekiro(katana only, really?) in terms of Souls games, even Bloodborne kind of forces you to play a certain way(gun in left hand, trick weapon in the other) so if the new pre-made characters have proficiencies in certain weapon types what is the point in trying out other weapons ones through the match? Assuming there are new weapons. From Software are no stranger to reused assets and what can sometimes seem original isn't if you do a bit of digging so that part is fine by me(Vengarl is Radhan for example lol). The cynic in me wonders if they'll keep adding new characters post-launch and introduce a gatcha mechanic, It's happening to the BotW/Genshin type Monster Hunter game it can happen here. Maybe games really are just dying...This year both Shadow of the Erdtree and Dragon's Dogma 2 were massive letdowns and I was so excited for them... 😢

I really don't think this looks like anything close to "cash grab slop", but you do you.
Did you play it?

@DionPanday He's not the one giving out preemptive judgments before we've even seen any proper gameplay.
SOTE Was massive. On my first play through of the DLC, I probably clocked in about 60 or 70 hours and I loved experimenting with the new weapons and the discovering the lore. All for $40
It was awesome, people focus too much on the negatives and don't talk about what is amazing about it.

Yeah I judged it hard early on but it's grown on me.
Jester is making a huge blunder. Keeps talking about how replays are boring. And ya know what? The man has a point. Which is why I'm calling him silly for not doing what I do to counter this...
Scum save usbs. Every time I'm done doing the koolest stuff and don't wanna endure boring af run backs on a new playthrough? Who cares lol just reload. Game has become wayyyy funner for me this way. I can refight whatever boss i want almost instantly. The build is about as good as it will get. It's awesome!
@soyborne I’m on NG+9 and I’m still having a blast. Some players like you have found ways to basically make the game a boss rush but that’s that doesn’t appeal to me really. I like having fun with the different builds that I come up with, testing the builds out in the field so that I can get accustomed to the attack timings, and the ultimately test out the build against the bosses. The game has so much variety that it’s pretty easy to get carried away with how many builds you can try out. But everyone can find multiple ways to enjoy Elden Ring which is why is such a great game.
@@AstonishingRed Lol I did sort of turn it into a boss rush game haha. But hey I can still explore and stuff which I still do from time to time.
That's what's great about elden ring. Sure 80% of the game isn't worth revisiting very much haha. But that 20% is FIRE and I don't mind re experiencing that 80% if I haven't done it in months. Game is so huge that I str8 up forget what a lot of the more meh areas were like. So re experiencing them almost feels new and fresh. And moving about in the game world feels sooo good that I kind of don't mind exploring, even when it's the less interesting areas of the game.
One thing I gotta say though about my scum saves that I REALLY love. Grinding for stuff like golden vow craftables or worse, the radiant baldachins blessing which there's only 1 of per playthrough and once you use it, it's gone! I'm able to abuse the crap out of these items now without fear of running out lol. It kind of feels like cheating haha.
Wait did you say ng plus 9? Lol brother... I'm on new game plus 200 something and I'm max level and that's just one of my accounts. So you can see why I got bored of horse riding around every freakin place hahahahahaha.
dark souls 2 and colorful in the same sentence lmao
Fromsoft making bank on reskin assets. Talk about a low overhead maximizing record breaking profits. $40 x 4 million fromsoft fans.
If it's set in the same place I don't understand why some of it wouldn't be the same. This is just a weird criticism.
Ever play Halo: Odst?
It's one of the most acclaimed games in the series, and it's almost entirely made up of reused assets from Halo 3.
This seems fun, but also 40 dollars? Its gonna be hard to convince two friends, especially those who aren't already fromsoft fans to dish out that kind of money. This should be 20 dollars imo, if they want to draw in casuals like they seem to want to with the streamlined mechanics
It's really weird that you act like they have to be your friends. I'm pretty sure there's a way to just freaking group up with some randos and play the damn game
You don’t have to play with friends, you can play solo
You ever play lord of the rings war in the north? Criminally underated 3 player coop game. If from can capture that vibe? I'm down.
But something tells me they will fail me on that front lol. Hope not.
I was initially very skeptical about this, but I think it could be fun. I rolled my eyes when I saw the Nameless King, but honestly more variety is probably good for this type of game as long as they put a good amount of effort into creating new bosses and enemies too. If it's 90% repeats, I'm going to be disappointed. I want new gameplay.
Other than that, my biggest worry is that multiplayer will be the usual garbage implementation. Multiplayer will carry this game, and if it doesn't work the game WILL suck. Seeing that it's either 1 or 3 players doesn't give me much hope. Seamless co-op is up to 6 players, and completely opens up Elden Ring by removing invisible walls and enabling Torrent for everyone. Why is a single modder capable of making multiplayer 100x more fun that what FromSoft can do?
Exactly, all these strange little switch ups just put me on edge. I still think it's going to be fun, but there's also something cheap looking about it, which is why I chose to describe it as concerning rn
You fell off (it wasn't a big fall, you were never very high)
Radahn has quite a bit of attacks you can strafe ( th-cam.com/video/oqYkvV9M1cY/w-d-xo.html )
also why do you even hate commander hogridah? pretty simple ds3 style boss but I found it enjoyable and never skipped scinse (he also drops fun weapon and fun ash of war)
Yeah, he also has attacks with jump punishes much like every single other SOTE boss except maybe Metyr. I remember him lamenting the lack of that in his original video, when it was really all there.
And it's sad to see, because he has now formed this B-team opinion based on his first playthrough when the amount of learning the community has done since then could easily fix that.
@@Sinhsseax What are his jump punishes? I kinda only found low profile and strafe punishes. Also you can jump over Metyr's side finger thrust.
Yeah it was one of the saddest videos unironically especially the final part where he says he want from to milk ER forever with micro dlcs. Also wild that he called Rellana miniboss I can just imagine fighting 2 of them or her in 2nd phase and a bunch of black knights
@@Виктор-ч7х1щ There's his stomp of course. He has two variants:
1)The one that's the starter for his main combo. It can't be punished with slow weapons. (Much like Godfrey's)
But it can be jumped in both phases and combined with the strafing can maybe allow for a no roll of his main combo even in phase 2.
2)A singular stomp that he does after his repositioning run. It can be punished with slow weapons, but it's rare. Allegedly he can also combo it into more stomps, which I couldn’t confirm.
Both have to be jumped extremely early, but it's important that his foot itself has no hitbox so it's safe at all distances.
Then there's his sideways uppercut. It can be jumped after moving a slight distance away and only be punished by longer / ranged weapons.
In second phase you need to jump it sideways to avoid the pillars of light, but it works surprisingly well.
Thanks for the info on Metyr. I might try that soon. It's very nice to have such an exchange of experience.
@@Виктор-ч7х1щ If you want to see the stomp 1) and the sideways uppercut being jumped, I have a short about Consort on my channel that shows them.
I sadly don't have footage of the singular stomp.
The hogridah’s was ruined for me simply for having that charge move, and as you said it’s a simple DS3 boss anyways so it isn’t worth replaying.
I mean I just don't understand if it's a game set in the same exact place. Why it would have to radically be different and use completely different assets? Like .... what
Ever play Halo: Odst? It's one of the most acclaimed games in the series, and it's almost entirely made of assets from Halo 3.
I'm reminded of the scene from Rocky 5 where Rocky tries to convince Tommy to not sell out begging him not to go with the shady manager. Here we are in a similar predicament, begging fromsoft not to go with sony. Not to chase after the money but it may just be too late.
One hope is that they figure out how to make casual-friendly multiplayer. My personal experience was that Dark Souls and even Elden Ring multiplayer was too clunky to convince most of the people to engage with it. You would think that for the explicitly co-op version of their game, they would figure out lobbies, friend lists, or something else to make the procedure of queuing up with your friends or random strangers efficient and straightforward. From the dev interviews so far, it seems we're still using the password system, at least.
Another thing I am skeptical about is the bosses. Bosses always lose their challenge when played with a summon, whether it's a quest npc summon, spirit ashes, or an online player. This is why people keep trying to beat the bosses solo: it's not as fun when the boss switches to the other character, and you just do whatever you want. Most of the attacks are designed to catch one character off-guard, the other ones just catch strays sometimes. Most of the time, one guy tanks the attacks (by dodging or blocking), and other people poke the boss with impunity. To make it more fun than that, you would have to adjust the boss behaviors, add new attacks, probably rework their scripting in a fundamental way. I am skeptical whether we'll see the next evolution of the boss design for fromsoft games in this new title.
I did not know they were still going to use the password system? Have you watched VaatiVidya’s video? He covers a lot on the information we got about the game. My hopes was that they were going to create a better multiplayer experience because I certainly agree with you, it’s a hassle.
Another thing Vaati covers is the bosses, his take on the trailer and information we received is that the bosses will have a multi-targeted system that will probably provide a much better multiplayer experience.
But we won’t know all things until we receive the game.
@@steven__bills1011 The PC Gamer video that Vaati is referencing mentions that multiplayer is password based, but who knows if it's been improved at all.
From the trailer, the new wolf boss seems to have huge sweeping attacks, which should help challenge multiple players. However, with how many re-used assets there may be, I do worry about the challenge presented there. Elden Ring DLC AI has the bosses whipping around mid-combo to target other players, and I seriously hope they don't repeat that for Nightreign, but that's probably what's going to happen.
This release gives the impression of a $40 asset flip whch was made to chase the rougelike trend that has been getting steadily oversaturated in recent years whilst also simutaneously mooching of the success of the Elden Ring IP.
6:25 🤣🤣🤣
However Nightreign itself shakes out I think it's a good thing that From is at least confident enough to try some wildly divergent spins on the souls formula. "Classic souls, but more and bigger" is tapped out, continuing to increase the scale past the already massive elden ring is not feasible and "elden ring, again" isn't gonna fly even if they could climb that massive budget and development hill again - the game's own DLC fails to bottle this lightning a second time. As a roguelike-liker Nightrein's concept is intriguing and even if it falls flat it may be laying the groundwork for a future game. As far as refining the classic formula goes my money is on Round8 & Neowiz now. A smaller scoped project like Lies of P can focus in on refining and innovating a handful of core mechanics in a way From as a victim of their own success probably no longer can, as anything they put out in this back-to-basics vein is going to be compared unfavourably and perhaps unfairly to elden ring
"Projects" could also mean elden ring tv or other forms of media, with it in mind that its not just 26 different games its not so bad to absorb id say
One of the most contrived takes I have ever heard about a fromsoft game. Wow the way you try to glue sentences together to make up some kind of "smart" guy narrative is very cringe. Good luck with the channel.
The first words out of my mouth were that I was making this quick and sloppy lol you give me too much credit
Sorry, but where is this interview in wich they mention of "26 new projects" come from? Not that I think you are lying but I had never heard about it before.
He probably just made that up. This guy has a long history of making definitive claims/statements about subjects he knows nothing about without any evidence.
I trust fromsoft. Them taking different approaches is good in my opinion
My man... Erdtree has no "braindead oppressive difficulty." Not if you use summons like 95% of people do.
A leveled mimic tear with good gear can literally solo Rellana and trivialize every other boss except pre-nerf Consort Radhan, which is not even a thing anymore.
This isn't an argument about your build, it's an argument about the quality of the bosses design. Sure you can use summons, or cheese bosses, or do whatever to subvert the fight, but when actually engaged with, you'll realize that many of the DLC bosses were designed in ways that are obnoxiously "difficult."
What I mean by that, is that the devs were attempting to create incredibly difficult bossfights, but instead of designing them with the players base abilities in mind. They ignorantly designed them with arbitrarily over the top moves or aggression, which results in SOTE having terrible hitboxes, terrible camera issues, moves that must be jumped away from to avoid consistently, which completely disengages you from the fight, and ultimately this mindset results in prepatch radahn's undodgeable slice combo.
That's what I mean by saying braindead oppressive difficulty. It's not oppressive to your character, its oppressive to the player, by reducing their agency and ability to actually engage with the bossfights in appropriate ways. Because many of these dlc fights, are just poorly designed boss fights.
@@micshazam842 or you just stop playing the game like it’s dark souls 3 and you actually interact with the jump and posture/status mechanics instead of whining and being misinformed in the age of the internet. How embarrassing

@@jesterofjuice5132 Just because every boss should be beatable with vanilla nonsense builds, it should not become the staple of measurement, you choose to not engage with the game, to make it harder on you, those Games were never meant to be played completley alone, even in DS1 there are tons of NPC summons with extra loot tied to them.
