The man most worthy of the crown is the one who does not want it.
Morgott thinks nothing of himself or his own glory. He sees his role as King of Leyndell not as a privilege but as a duty, and he takes it upon himself to bear its heavy weight on his shoulders forever. He dresses in rags and hides his identity from his people, who would despise and reject him if they knew who he was, even though he is the royal blood of Godfrey, and has clearly inherited his father's great strength and nobility.
When he calls himself "last of all kings," it carries two meanings. As a cursed monster rejected by grace, he is the least of all those who held the throne before him. But as the Erdtree's eternal protector, he will be the final king standing in its defense at the end of the world.

Morgott's rule is pretty awful. It's objectively passionless, genocidal and self destructive. He spent his time waging war on anything that might've presented change in his Stockholm syndrome to the shattered Golden Order that only makes exception to himself among Omens. Morgott inheriting the Shattered age and kept it that way because the Golden Order culture makes him hate himself and any ambition he might've held.
Radahn was cut down after successfully taming the heavens themselves to protect all lives in the land. Even in his rotten madness he's isolated himself to be killed and protects his equally infected but still loyal stead Leonard.
Of all the demigods I believe only Radahn, Miquella, and Godwyn had genuine aims to revitalizing the world instead of abandoning it or furthering the depravity.

It's unfortunate that we never got to see more of what kind of person Godwyn was, he was able to stop the dragons and even befriend them, and it seems like he was a great king of Leyndel and Stormveil.
One theory I've heard is that with Ranni being chosen to replace Marika, maybe Godwyn was supposed to be her first Elden Lord, which is why killing her body and his soul were so important to subvert the Greater Will.

We definitely fought Godfrey as his strongest self. Marika sent Godfrey and his tarnished on a long march outside of the lands between in hope that they would grow stronger as they struggle without the aid of the golden grace. So when Godfrey returned to the lands between, he has both the strength he gathered as a tarnished and his guidance of grace.
Radagon might be nothing but a husk of his former self, but we then fought the literally embodiment of the elden ring (I said great will originally oops) and won.

He was probably at his strongest that he could be by himself not his strongest ever. This theory has the golden phantom of Godfrey he left behind to support it.

@@MaidenlessScrub that’s Morgott projection, I highly doubt he can even match Godfrey in power to project a full version of it.
The golden order has mean to empowering their generals, like ton of buffs and incantation etc so I am pretty sure the strongest version of Godfrey could have been himself while commanding the golden army. So Elden Lord Godfrey may actually be stronger than Godfrey via other buffs and empowerments but weaker than himself when he fought you if he lost those powers.

Agreed. The first three you name literally become vessels for gods akin to Marika/Radagon. So the Tarnished did indeed best most of the demigods at their strongest. Hoarah Loux is also his peak and I think it isn't even a debate. Because if him dying before finding grace is him being nerfed then the Tarnished is also nerfed when we beat him, since the whole point of the intro was us being brought back from the brink. We even die at the beginning against the Grafted Scion or the fall as we arrive in the Lands Between to illustrate that point further.

Yea this idea people have that they all would have been stronger prior to the Shattering is weird.

Imagine mourning your son after finding out he was the only one who truly stayed loyal to the Golden Order and defended the thrones till his dying breath, and then he fades away into a golden light leading to the one who killed him and all of your sons. The Greater Will is telling you that the final opponent is this tarnished who killed your family, burned the Erd Tree, and is now on his way to kill your ex wife and her husband to take the throne. Both Morgott and Radahn are mighty warriors, learned scholars and decent, honorable men at their core (at least compared to just about everyone else in this setting). But I'd have to go with Radahn on this one.
Morgott is plagued by self-hatred. He hides his identity as the king of Leyndell both out of necessity and shame. And while he's well-aware that the Erdtree has closed itself to the world and abandoned it to its fate, he's so blindly devoted to the Golden Order that he can't even consider improving it. On paper, Morgott has the strength, the intellect and the temperament to rule, but all of his talents go to waste because he doesn't trust himself to upend the status-quo.
Radahn's mindset is the exact opposite. He seems to seek constant improvement. He was beaten by Morgott, so he grew to gigantic proportions and became a master of war in all of its aspects. He became too large for his scrawny horse, so he learned gravity magic to keep riding him. And in contrast with Morgott's status as the "veiled monarch", it's telling that even reduced to a primal state, Radahn still inspires undying loyalty in his troops.
Now, perhaps these traits alone don't make you a good ruler. But to overcome the specific challenges facing the Lands Between? Pre-rot Radahn appears to be the best candidate.

He reminds me of Paarthurnax though, being born evil and overcoming it through hard work. I think the greatest combination would be a fully developed Morgott as Elden Lord and Miquella as the King, allowing all to flourish. I have to say that Morgott feels like the best choice for Eldin Lord, first off, he has experience governing since he ruled Lyndell for years, and Lyndell is one of the few places that could be considered an actual civilization. I love Radahn, and his story is great, but military leadership does not translate to real leadership, our years of Tyrants show it.
Second of all, Morgott would aim to maintain a status quo, which in some ways is bad because it could cause an era of stagnation, but Radahn would likely resort to conquest just like Godfrey and if things went wrong it would be bad.
Third of all, Morgott’s traits are better suited to leadership, he is quiet and philosophical, and probably the smartest of the demigods in everything but military tactics. He is subdued and would be careful and considerate in his rule.
And finally, if we wish to decide this based on strength, Morgott wins, we see Morgott beat a young Radahn, and while Radahn was not at his strongest, neither is Morgott, he was Margit the fell back then, and was hiding his blade, as well as his true strength.
I think another commenter put it best when they said “The man most worthy of a crown is the one who does not want it.” And after years of warmongering tyrants as Eldin Lord, Morgott is just what the lands between need.
P.S. The scarlet rot also rules out Radahn immediately, but im assuming we are looking at before that. Congrats for finishing this essay of a coment.

I'd actually say Miquella. He and Morgott are the only outwardly benevolent and selfless Empyreans, and unlike Morgott who is unfortunately shunned due to his Omen status, Miquella on the other hand was basically worshipped as a God by both the people of Leyndale and the Lands Between as a whole. He planted the Haligtree and made it a safe haven for Albinaurics where they could have their own city, and his primary goal was seeking a cure for both Scarlet Rot and breaking the Erdtrees hold on souls.
Only downside is he probably has extreme mind-control powers so he might be a total tyrant but everyones opinion of him is so high because he simply brainwashes them.
I find it unlikely that he could use this power on his father Radagon however, who had an immensely high opinion of him as his "favored son." And we know Radagon is a diehard paladin archetype.

I don't know if anyone thought like this, but prowess and noblesse in battle are not synonyms to a great ruler.
In my humble opinion, Morgott was always the one supposed to be the Elden Lord, but he wasn't daring enough to betray all he believed in and turn himself against the Greater Will to burn the thorns in the Erdtree. Morgott was already a king for a long, long time. His values were true, and he despised all other demigods, who fell to the desire of more power.
Absolutely nothing says Radhan wasn't the same. After all, he waged war. But he IS a general, and we've been proven time and again that he was a good, fair and strong general. The thing is, a general is not necessarily a good administrator. I think both should be able to rule together, if the Greater Will didn't shut the world out to keep one Marika shut for eternal punishment.
Morgott would be the perfect Elden Lord for the Golden Order, for he stood by their values until the very end, trying time and again to prevent us from becoming just like the other demigods and falling for power, ending up strong enough to subdue him and his beliefs. We came to prove him wrong and crush all his dreams and everything he once believed in and I feel so, so bad about it.
His death was one of the most painful to me, along with Malenia, whose sole desire was to see her beloved twin once again, the one she failed to protect. Both of them had their dreams and beliefs crushed by the Tarnished and this is just sad.

Morgott, despite experiencing the flaws of the Golden Order, acts through blind loyalty. We know little of Radahn's vision of the future, aside from the Redmane soldiers staving off the rot with fire.
Goldmask isn't blinded by hate or zealotry, and instead seeks to perfect the order. This doesn't mean a lack of free will, it merely those who would abuse the Ring like Marika to become a tyrant. No longer would gods and demigods be able to force the world to fit their view. It seems he doesn't care for discrimination either, as he is shown to disagree with the hunting of Those Who Live in Death. He is a Golden Order Fundamentalist (which mixes faith and intelligence into one), and managed to predict that he would recieve grace, so he is quite intelligent. I would argue that Goldmask would be the best candidate if it weren't for the fact that he died.

I had always thought that Radahn deserved to be an elden lord above all. Not only does he have some of the most INSANE feats, but he clearly was the strongest of all the demi-gods. The only one who came close to his strength at his prime WAS Malenia, but even she was forced to give in to the influence of the rot ONLY to end the battle in a stalemate. On top of all of this as mentioned in the video, Radahn clearly idolized Godfrey with the portrayal of Serosh on his armor. Radahn was the GOAT!

Wealth, power, etc. Same reasons why anyone in our world ever wanted to be king.
The Elden Ring seems to govern reality. For example, when the rune of death was removed the lands between became a (mostly) deathless wasteland. And depending on how we choose to mend the Ring, reality changes. Presumably a God + Elden Lord could modify the Elden Ring in any way they saw fit so long as it doesn't go against the Greater Will.

    • @clorkmagnus
      @clorkmagnus ปีที่แล้ว +1

The Elden Ring contain the godly power given to Marika and her Demi gods offsprings from the Greater Will.
The Demigods inherited one rune each while Marika and Radagon held the remained with the exception of Maliketh, his destines death was something that was took from another Empyrean.
You took the great runes from the Demi gods once you defeat them so it’s quite possible your character gathered the runes power to grow stronger. To become the Elden Lord of the golden order mean you need to covert the GW power, even if you decided to start the new golden order with different doctrines.
In other Elden Lord endings you covert different outer gods power. Anyway taking away the Elden Ring mean you possess godly power and rule the world or destroy the world at will (chaos, curse ending etc). So even if for good reasons, you probably want to take it instead of some lunatic like Mogh.

The notion that the only thing that's required to be an Elden Lord is strength, is something that Godfrey tells us, because that's how HE became a lord. He was a warrior, who defeated all of his opposition and forced his rule onto others through sheer strength, so Marika took the opportunity to side with him, to protect her interests through strength and dominance. Once all her enemies were defeated, Godfrey was quickly stripped of his Lord status, as direct power was no longer necessary.
That doesn't mean that there can't be other ways to become an Elden Lord, even if the game likes to suggest 1v1s are the best way to determine that, because we need our bossfights. I doubt Radagon became a lord just by a showcase of brute strength, it was his faith and devotion that allowed Marika to better stay in position of power once actual wars were no longer as common

Only a few of the bosses we fight are *supposedly* weaker than their prime, like Radahn, Radagon, Renalla and Placidusaxx. There's no reason to believe that people like Morgott, Mohg, Maliketh and others are weaker than their prime. Others, like Rykard, Malenia, Godfrey, Gideon, and Godrick are stronger than ever before. Rykard because of fusing with the serpant and getting stronger with time as he consumes more and more people; Malenia because in the fight she bloomed into godhood as a vassal of the Rot Goddess (as an empyrian turned into newborn god, I think she should be around the same level here as prime Marika); Godfrey because he finally got rid of Serosh, who was there to keep his pure, savage, unbridled power in check; Gideon because he tried to copy your whole flow, beat for beat, bar for bar, and Godrick because he's finally not a complete embarrassment after grafting a literal dragon onto himself. In the game, you kill at least 2 'gods' (defined in the game as a vassal of an outer god) and whatever the hell the Elden Beast is (embodiment of the Greater will yada yada). Suffice to say, your tarnished is by far the most powerful entity to ever grace the lands between.

Ok. From the amount of lore i have consumed i have deduced this much.
    1. Morgott: originally born from the golden lineage of godfrey. He had omen blood. He was shunned by his own family for this blood.. The golden order also shunned him.. Even after all this he hated himself and loved the golden order. After the shattering when the greater will needed a protector he crawled out of his prison to protect it. He was a vigilante.. He didn't want glory. He wanted to protect the order and its subject.. But he had a flaw. He had inferiority complex. He inherited the sense and skill of a true king from his father. But his self hatered held him back.. And the order still disnt accept him so he is ruled out as a candidate.
    2. Godwyn: He was a great person. He loved the golden order. The proof of thst is when he protected lyndell from dragons.. Even after a clear victory he still opted for peace. Which makes him more loveable by the beings of the lands between. He also had good relationships with his siblings. We can see stautes of godwyn and the twin prodigies in the haligtree. He wanted to cure his siblings.. Even after all this he wasnt chosen as an emperyeon.
3: Mohg: Unlike his twin omen. Mohg loved his blood. He had an accord with an outer god and wanted to make a new dynasty . He took miquella away for this purpose. But perhaps all this was babbling of an idiot.
    4. Rykard: He was originally with the order but later realized that it wasnt all loving and shunned races. He sought an ancient serpent god to become one with it and take all those who were shunned from grace within him.
    5. General Radaghn: One of the the, if not , the most powerful demigod in the shattering war. He was embodiment of glory and greatness. Always learning new things. And in the words of Godfrey. Strength is necessary to become lord. A very strong candidate.
6.Malenia: chosen as an emperyeon to become the new god. She was great with the sword and never knew defeat. She literally housed the outer god of rot within herself. A very strong candidate as well. Although she believed he brother was a better fit.
    7. Ranni: Also an emperyeon but wanted to make her own destiny. Hated the order and the fingers. A very suitable candidate
    8. Miquella: Also an emperyeon. Called the best candidate for godhood by her sister malenia. He had the curse of nascency. He made a new tree which would house Evey being unlike the Order. The order allowed this cause then the order didnt had to worry about thise shunned.
He truly loved the beings of the lands between. Even his family. Wanted to cure the rot in malenia and cure godwyns death. A great candidate.
After this the two most fitting are Radahn and miquella

I REALLY REALLY dislike the idea that people seem to always think Radahn is a good person because he is a great warrior, like we for a fact KNOW he is not a good person and not driven by ideological believes or moral or ethical considerations during the shattering, he's the only demigod that fought with no goals in mind, he is JUST A WARRIOR... a great and honorable one that likes to fight sure, but ABSOLUTELY NOT A GOOD ELDEN LORD

Everyone always talks how "Radahn let Malenia put her prostethic on" but no one mentions Malenia, also allowing Radahn to pick up his swords and be battle ready, which is just as honorable
