- Decided to open up some filters to make a better decision on what filter to use for oil services. Some of what I found surprised me and I like to share it with you..

Sakura Filter has the best price to performance ratio for me... The company has studied filters from Donaldson(USA) and Japan for 30+ years.... So I trust in the brand... They have 8000+ types of filters

The rubber valve is for anti-flow-back, the red ones are made from silicone which works well even at high or low temperatures but more costly. That's the point of comparison.

I think 2 of those Toyota filters are actually counterfeit. Perhaps some of the other ones are as well. I've used Denso oil and air filters many times and they've always worked great. Not sure what country he is in but some times supplier of each brand changes by country.
Never buy oils filters from Ebay or anywhere online only from a known online store. I learned the hard way that they are making counterfeit car parts now also.
I buy mine from the Toyota dealer for my Corolla.
@@72marie well there are legitimate Toyota/Lexus dealerships selling their stuff on eBay, just verify who the seller is and you can buy from them.
The Toyota filter in the middle is the genuine one. The other two are fakes.

I quickly sell all my old Sakura filter cheap cheap next time i buy JS Ask fiter.
I am from philippines and used js asakashi c-0076 oil filter in isuzu mux 4lk1-tc engine and i noticed that the ADBV is not working. So disappointed
T base plate valve is called Anti Drain Valve aka ADV.
You cannot go wrong with DENSO AND BOSCH!

visual looks ok, filter area is 665cm2
Area is not a measure of quality,it's about flow ratio and holding capacity.The filter which has larger area not perform well absolutely.

Thank you for posting this comparative review. I am surprised that the three Toyota filters have such different constructions. Can you tell use why you chose three Toyota filters of the same type while you only chose one filter of each brand for the others? It is interesting that each of the three Toyota filters was made differently. Thanks again.

Correct. Genuine Toyota filters have the light yellow color to the filter just as the middle one has in this comparison. I worked for Toyota and can verify I have never seen any genuine Toyota filter that looked like the other two in this video, they are definitely counterfeit.

I'm bit late answering but in case anyone else missed it - he said at the beginning the three Toyota filters were all different prices, and I guess he wanted to see why that was.
In my country,Toyota sells oil filter made by Denso with more price...

Alfa Lights, thanks for revealing the insides of various oil filters. But you do Toyota spare parts a dis-service. I am almost certain all 3 Toyota filters were NOT purchased from the Service / Spares Parts department of an Toyota Authorized Agent.
Those 3 Toyota oil filters are imitation spare parts - probably cost less than US $7 ? You get what you pay for - when you buy cheap.
A genuine Toyota oil filter cost at least US $15.
If you value your engine, replace the oil & genuine oil filter in accordance to the vehicle manufacturer's maintenance manual.
I am not so sure that you get what you pay for. That is the rub isn't it. If it were that simple then picking things by the price on the box would be the answer for everything....
yeah i would say only the middle one is real, the 2 others are not genuine toyota
+Alexander Vikman I think all three of Toyota are imitation products even for the middle one. The middle one has not cover cap on the top which can direct allow dirty oil to get through the filter without proper filtration. For me, the best filter would be OSK filter.

Why not try to filter a fuel that is mixed with black powder..
And see whether it can make the fuel clearer

it is important to use high quality materials in a small area...So this video isnt objective...Maybe toyota's cm2 small but they used very high quality material... therefore this video is misleading...I will wait your answer?
What then makes sense to use any filter? If Toyota uses a "high-quality" materials.

The middle Toyota filter is original the others are fake. Toyota regularly changes item number and or packaging in an attempt to avoid counterfeit item. But it can be difficult to know if you are getting counterfeit goods. You are probably most sure of the real thing at a Toyota dealer.
The Toyota Oil Filters in the video doesn't seem to be genuine
If you're confuse about those toyota filters, how come you coincidentally bought three different filter?
They were priced differently I think.

Has anyone used JS filters commercially? We are using these filters in our workshop and have had the seals shrink and become loose, causing oil to leak. Please reply if you have had this same issue. We have had an issue with approximately 10 filters over 2 years.
Did you put some oil on rubber seal before install oil filter? I had been using js asakashi before without issue for 10,000km
@@azimielevin9980 Hi, yes we use oil as we run a commercial workshop. We had around 30+ fail, turned out there were a couple part numbers that they admitted that were faulty but we had issues with about 10 part numbers. We have stopped using these now and recalled all vehicles we had JS fitted to and replaced with another brand. Been 3 years now and no issues since changing brands. Would never use this brand again.

It seems buying Toyota filters, you are more likely to pick up a counterfeit, and the originals aren't that good to begin with.
Absolutely that was counterfeit that is why toyota warned about counterfeit oil filter on their bulletin

This video is definitely misleading in a way. To best evaluating an oil filter, we need to quantify the efficiency of oil filters by sending samples to reliable filter testing company. This is not professional by evaluating all of them with a few factors.The conclusion he made was just bias towards brand he wanted to promote.
You CANNOT determine the quality of an oil filter by just opening it up and visually examining it! You have to conduct an oil flow test to see the flow rate, to see how much contaminant it is able to hold, and its ability to bypass when full. Just looking at it does very little good in determining the effectiveness if the oil filter.

You are talking about filtration paper microns and capacity test.
This is video is about comparing amount of filtration element in the filter
and general quality of the filter itself construction.
Its kinda silly to say this visual comparison does not show a difference.
Fair comment, but I did not think that he was trying to determine every factor of the filters, just giving people the opportunity to see the difference. The structural strength or integrity of the actual filter cannister is what interests me, as apparently oil pressure issues can make the unit collapse inwards . I realise it is a pretty basic test, but I usually check the weight of filters, and the difference is surprising , between the manufacturers. Personally I use OSK and Sakura, without any problems ( touch wood ) , and today I received some JS filters for my neighbours Colorado , so it will be an opportunity to see how they perform.

That was counterfeit Toyota filter that is why you should buy directly from Toyota parts centre. Even Toyota already warning in their bulletin about counterfeit oil filter.
