    About the Rating:
    At the end of the video, I thought that it would be a nice idea to have a rating for the products that I test. So, based on the general 5 star rating used all over, I made my rating to better suit my personality. The rating is based on my testing and my opinion of a specific product. It takes into consideration many factors like performance, reliability, availability and many other aspects which are essential to a consumer. Of course, some of these factors may not be applicable to other regions or demographics. As price is another factor in this rating, a product may be cheaper in other regions, rendering my rating as inadequate. In this case, you should reconsider if the product is suitable for you or not.

    The most important reason for the metal mesh I've found is that it prevents rodent ingress! I had to add metal mesh to a Honda Civic intake to prevent them from continually getting in and ruining the filter. It's definitely a feature I look for.

    • @andreasanai3542
      @andreasanai3542 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes but on airfilters the mesh Is on the upper part

    • @802Garage
      @802Garage 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@andreasanai3542 Right I should have been a bit more clear. What I mean is it prevents rodents from chewing through the filter. The Civic for example had seeds caught on the throttle blade and in the IAC valve and was causing big problems. I have had multiple air boxes with nests in the bottom portion, but luckily the rodents could not nest further in. It's most important for a car that has been sitting or if you live somewhere with a lot of rodents and such. Will also catch major debris if the rodents are persistent enough to chew mostly through. :)

    Just installed a Hengst filter in my X3 F25. It was also made in Poland. Can confirm the fit and finish was excellent, noticably better then the OE Mahle that was removed. Definitely would like to try out their other filter products, but they don't seem to have the mass retail availability here in Canada compared with something like Mann.

    Bought the first Hengst filters this year for the oil and filters change and discovered a really nice solid build to all of them. I have been buying and replacing my own filters for a while and have used, Mann(twice), Mahle and Knecht(5+ times) and the plus for the Hengst would be that for the cabin filter it has a sponge ring all around and it fits really snug in the frame(Mann, Knecht and Mahle do not) and the oil one seems to have the innner plastic frame more solid than the rest I have used.
    The price is similar to Mahle and Knecht.

    I think I already know what brand of air filter will be my next choice.
    So far I have been using Mahle filters. Very good fit in the Astra H. The previous filter put in the service, was deformed. Poland has many factories that produce spare parts and consumables for many automotive brands and these are quite decent parts. In addition, the price is adapted to our market. I would be happy to try a Hengst brand filter. Thank you for this video, as usual top quality testing. Regards.

    Just visited the largest filter manufacturer in Bulgaria last month. I was very surprised that from the same production line were coming out filters for 9-10 producers in this video.The manager even confirmed that all the filters are the same.. they just print the brand and use different boxes. All producers give the manufacturer the characteristics of the materials they have to use, but it has a margin and if it falls in the quality specter of more producers.. they just use it!
    The bottom line is that, in most cases, you just pay for the brand.

    Prefilter (white fleece) on M+H filter had a right description in your comment - it was designed for cold countries to stop snow and water which could wet the filter as much that could tear on some point - its needed in e.g. Scandinavia REALLY. Beside that it improves lifetime from 10-25% depending on the whole system design (airflows, circulation etc.).

    I really appreciate this. Unfortunately, I do think your comments at the end are correct on the subject of different quality from different factories. I became a Mahle convert but found myself wondering if, for example, they bought a company like Clevite in the US and upgraded the factory or just put t heir name on it. It's probably a bit of both but I don't think many companies prioritize performance over profit when only the very occasional test like yours will ever reveal what they are actually selling. Ultimately, your fine work here will help those in your geographical area but only provide a single data point for the rest of us. I'd love to see a test of the same filter from as many factories as possible from one or more manufacturers. My Japanese and Chinese Mahle oil filters are nothing alike in outward appearance, as an example, so we're all guessing when we make a choice.

    Very good test as always! I'm shocked that the Mann filter with the white layer filters that much more, I thought it was useless for other than snow as I've read online.
    It never snows around here so I always take it off since it's not glued (it's a cylinder filter) also for the sake of bigger airflow as I've tested it with a blower. Guess I'll put it back then. You deserve much more subscribers, keep the good work !

    • @SebastianFerenczy
      @SebastianFerenczy หลายเดือนก่อน

      I live in a colder climate and here you should use filters "for cold climates". The reason (as I understand it) has nothing to do with the snow getting into the filter. Instead, it has to do with the fact that in the spring, when the snow has melted and the roads have dried up, the roads are full of large amounts of fine dust. Therefore, the pre-filter is needed to handle the large amounts of road dust that the cars is exposed to.

    Furthermore, I am your companion from Bosnia and Herzegovina and there are certain oils and filters on our market that I would like to be tested on your channel, and here are the brands I think are also present in the markets of Croatia and Serbia.
    5W-30 C3 and C4 motor oils from FUCHS-TITAN, GERMAN OIL , INA PAO , and COMMA
    and of the filters, I primarily mean the testing of oil filters, and the most common are those with affordable prices, following brands
    FILTRON, KAMOKA, ASHIKA and HENGST
    here is that modest query and everyone would be grateful for the test in some future time and I am sure that at least most of these brands are available for testing
    Best regards and thank you very much for the tests so far

    all the filter producer buy the filter media from a handfull of suppliers. There are actually only two good suppliers for flame retardant filter media in the (european) market. One with 50 mm line distance (on the clean side) and one with 30 mm. Under dry conditions nearly all filter elements perform well but under wet conditions you can see the difference. This is due the different resin and saturation technology, which is used at the media supplier. Best regards WH

    Great job! I'm living in Poland and didn't even know that Hengst is made in Poland. Normally i was using Mann (made in Germany) but prices are crazy now. Thank You!

      I do not think that all Hengst Filters are made in Poland. I gought one for Honda civic and it says made in Bulgaria. I guess that anything made in EU is higher quality irrespective of country of production as they apply same quality standards. And it seems to be true that Polands produces a lot of spare parts for automotive industry and they are becoming experts at it. It has become a good quality hub. I have bought Kormoran tyres made in Poland factory owned by Michelin. I guess Michelin uses their technology for it to produce normal good quality and good price tyres.

    really surprised by the poor quality of the purflux the ones i have used always had great quality with no defects and no failures weird somehow i was sure that alco would do great. And dude that test was super complex and difficult to build, amazing job Sergiu.

    The man filter cold climate is just like the one I use on my Toyota Corolla Verso 2.2 D4D, it’s very long lasting and why it’s like that it could be due to capturing bigger particles and leave the paper filter the small particles , if that’s the reason well, only engineers that design this will be able to comment. Good Work!

    I live in a cold climate, use filters like Mann's, know the answer about the extra layer. It used for quite different than filtering snow.
    At temperatures below 0, water turns into ice and expands in their volume. If water somehow gets into the filter, at negative temperatures the filter will at least be freezed and will stop passing air. Also, the formed ice is able to break the the filter's folds.
    To prevent filter icing, the VW engine has an additional heating system. There is a separate valve and tube that brings warm air from the engine to filter's bottom. Thanks to that, the filter always stay dry. Soot also comes to the filter along with warm air. The extra layer is meant to hold her back. When the filter replaces and used one extracts, the surface of the additional layer is abundantly covered with something black, similar to soot. Confirm this, saw this many times.
    Air filters for cold climates are available from every manufacturer. Not only at Mann
    VW's partnumer - 1K0 129 620 L (made by Filtron)
    Mahle-LX1482
    Bosch - F026 400 172
    Purflux-A1217
    For different filters, the additional layer is made of different materials with different thicknesses. The additional layer on Bosch filter is identical to that on Mann.
    All other properties makes to think the Bosch and the Mann (both made in Germany) are made on a same factory.
    The additional layer for Hengst, Ufi, Filtron filters looks the same. The additional layer for them is a few millimeters thicker, but softer. These three are also made in a factory in Poland, they look identical.
    The Mahle filter (made in Austria) has the thinnest extra layer, made of (foam rubber ?. I don't know how correctly translate this matherial's name to English)
    As the overall height of each filter must be constant, so where the extra layer is thicker, the height of the folds of the filter itself will be smaller.
    Wonder that "normal climate" Mann fails that way. Also looks wondering that almost the same build filters for cold/normal climate are made on factories in different countries.

    I have bought Mahle and Mann for my car in the past, both sucked on the fitment, a few days ago I ordered Hengst, after watching this video I hope I might have a winner now.

    Excellent video, I came to the same opinion of the top three as your video was going. I do wonder though with the noticeably different element fibers under microscope of the two Mann filters (long time favorite personally) and the Wix that is their same manufacturer, that perhaps it just happens what batch your filter came from? At least the differences in particle retention and the variations in fibers. I would almost suggest you do the exact same test all over again, order the sane filters and compare each of their results to the last time. Maybe Champion got lucky. I put one of those in my 85 Eldorado lately and the fitment of the dense sticky rubber brim was awkward. Maybe their filtration is always this good, or maybe you got a good one from a good batch
