Could you explain more what you mean at the 3:14 mark? Talking about trying the heavier lens you say that you had to mount the camera to the gimbal instead of the lens to get the balance right. Would love to see a video of you actually setting up and balancing different combos on this gimbal to understand how you do it. Thanks, great video!
Get the briefcase handle. It is great. I use it all the time. It keeps the camera even steadier which reduces micro shakes from your hand. It's also easy to hold and keeps everything lightweight. As well as adds an additional leg if you are to keep my camera on the gimbal as a mini tripod. It also helps with lower angles, so you don't have to bend down all the time. Saves you energy and your back and knees. I only with it was a digital connection to allow extra battery attachments.
I actually had the pleasure of running into you as a guest at one of the weddings in this video. Chatting with you for a minute at the end convinced me to go with the RS3 mini instead of something else and I couldn't be happier. Also, it was fun to get the in-person review before the video review came out. =)
@@markshirley01 there are countless videos on YT to teach you and as the learning curve usually goes; it'll take you longest the first time and quicker after a few more times till it takes under 60secs when you've got the hang of it.
Yes, Bluetooth works with my rs3 mini to a7iv to start and stop recording. You can also press and hold the gimbals record button to take a photo. The front wheel will also zoom a power zoom lens over bluetooth. You do need the cable if you want to control focus, aperture, iso or shutter speed.
Yea it's a rubbish feature as the Bluetooth apk is actually open for dji to offer aputure or iso or shutter controller too via Bluetooth but they haven't done it yet its just start stop record
Hi Matt, meanwhile SmallRig has introduced (and delivers) a new extended vertical arm and a much thinner Arca Swiss mounting plate for the RS3 Mini. You can now put your camera in the SmallRig cage and fix it directly on the mounting plate without any additional screwing. In addition you save about 25 mm height which makes the balancing much easier especially for heavier cameras or lenses.
I love using this rs3 mini, particularly because it’s simple and small. There’s a new Zhiyun gimbal Weebill Cinepeer which seems quite small and lightweight too but can hold a twice heavier payload of 6.6 lbs just like the bigger gimbals, and it’s a fraction of the price.
Hello Matt, did you consider the Zhiyun Weebill 3? and if so, why did you decide for the DJI RS Mini instead? I'm trying to decide between those two since I want something small but powerful enough to hold my A7iv with a Sigma 24-70mm F2.8.
I worked at the trade fair weeks ago from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m using my DJI RS3 and A6500 and I had to charge the gimbal once at 2 p.m because I lost 60 percent of the charge in just four hours, even though I was just shooting individual scenes for a short clip and recorded no more than 60 minutes. Yes, I have a Focus Motor and the motors stiffness is at 60-70% because of the autotune. I just realize now that I will need to plan my day with the gimbal charging in mind. When I had the Zhiyun Crane I could shoot almost two weddings of 12 hours each.
As filmmaker that also film a lot of wedding, the only reason for me not to replace the rs3 with the mini is it doesn’t support focus motor. Which mean I have to let go one hand and zoom the lens in and out for so many times,it just doesn’t make the job easier, and the footage in between will very likely unusable. It’s still the best travel gimbal at this moment
I just bought this gimbal and filmed a wedding and the focus motor works if you connect with USB-c. I didn’t have a chance to try with Bluetooth yet. That was one of my main concerns as well as I use Lumix s5 which doesn’t have good auto focus. I shot whole Wedding with manual focus and didn’t touch the lens. The problem was the battery. In 2 hours filming, I only had 50% left.
Coming back to this almost a year later, do you still use this as your main gimbal? Debating getting rid of the rs2 and move into the 3 eco system and I’m torn between the rs3 or rs3 mini
Amazing content Matt. I’m sold on this and I just bought a new Mac based on your advice lol. Quick question. I don’t see FE35 1.4 GM and Sigma 85 1.4 on the supported lenses on DJI website. Does that mean they won’t work even though the weights are under 2kg with my a7iv?. I also don’t see the list of supported lenses for the bigger RS3, so this means it’s less restrictive? Cheers
Thanks for this review, I just found a great deal on B&H so I placed an order of this guy - apparently you don't seem to mind pushing the record button but I do real estate videography and I can't stand it anymore. My Zhiyun Weebill S wasn't working anymore with my Fujifilm camera without pushing the record button for each scene and I was hating it. I hope things will work as promised with this DJI RS 3 Mini. Thanks for great videos as usual!
The gimbal has great stabilisation, keep in mind if you shoot Sikh weddings the battery will need charging after 50% of the wedding so after the gurdwara, battery is not great
could use put a powerbank in your pocket with a cable into the charging port of the rs3 mini and have it kinda charge while in use, sorta extending the battery life?
Hoping that you'll read and consider this in your next premiere pro feedback, I want to talk about the Premiere pro's color grading and sound designing tools, like these tools haven't been updated for over a decade now, as compared to Davinci resolve's these tools are no use.
Almost ordered on when it was released. But then I found out it is no follow focus motor compatible. I use The follow focus motor to zoom. As long as there are no usable fast power-zoom lenses, the follow focus motor is a must. So my ronin SC is still the best gimbal I can have for my a7iv and/or a6600.
I need a gimbal like this! I already have the original ronin s Idont have any complain in the performance in the motors or the battery the only downside that its so heavy! Haha
Hey Matt! Thanks for another great video. I also recently bought this gimbal as a begineer for weddings in the near future. Glad to hear I share an opinion with experienced filmmaker . :) I would have two questions.. How do you rest the arms from the gimbal when not using it during a wedding day? If I don't lock the motors they will flip around but doing it takes time. Putting it down is not always feasible. Would be nice not to hold it upright when not needed. How do you change focal lengths on a zoom lens while on gimbal? Do you turn if off while doing it? While being turned on it feels like it hurts the gimbal. Thanks if you reply. :)
Hey Matt- love your review. Keep up the great work buddy. I have the same lens (24-105) except paired with A7IV. So would i have to rebalance for every focal length that I manually zoom? Would balancing it around 70mm or so cover all zoom ranges without the motors tilting forward?
Hello, i have ZHIYUN CRANE 2 and I find is long to prepar calibration with my Canon R5 with 24-70 Rf 2,8... so can you said a Dji Rs3 mini are better for my recap video a small event ? or go up Dji 4 standard will comming soon ?
I got the RS 3 because it went on sale and was almost the same price as the mini. Months down the line, I've found that it's way too heavy and I'm now trying to sell it so I can get the mini 🤦🏾♀️
Man this looks awesome. Do you think it would support the a7r5 with Sony 24-70 gm ii at 24mm? I have a crane m3 and it's not able to. So I might have to invest in a smaller lens. Please let me know what you think. I would rather buy this gimbal rather than a 20 mm 1.8 G for $800. On the website I see it says it supports an a7 with 24-70 2.8 gm. Just not sure how much bigger the a7r5 is. thank you!
The A7R V is pretty hefty, but the new 24-70 f/2.8 GM II is a lot lighter than the first gen version. So this combo might work. Would be a beast setup if it did!
Hello Matt! Should I buy 16inch MacBook Pro base model m1 for mainly video editing of A7S iii 4k 4:2:2 wedding film of 30mins of final edited video with 10hrs of total 4k footages in a project. Or i should buy 32gb, Please help with a solution.
I personally use MacBook Pro M1 Pro 16GB ram for editing 4K, 6K, 4.2.2 200mbps, 400mbps, .MOV, HLG, 60fps, 180fps…is working without any problems. If you want to spend some extra cash for the 32GB ram version, it won’t hurt you 😊.
What i have noticed is that the rs mini 3 is not as good as rs2pro or rs3 pro in z axis stabilisation (wooble effect when walking)) i think the ligther the gimbal is the more it is affected by this wooble effect in z axis when you are walking no? the fact you can't use two handles in rs3 mini (only one in left side) is perhaps the problem too.
Hi! New in business. Got this rs3mini to use with EosR lens 16mm 2.8 . Is it ok to use in weddings o 15 birthday party’s? I use the wire to connect camera to gimbal…don’t want to use the phone (it would be another objet to be at hand) should I use autofocus? PTF mode? If I put 24-240mm how do I control the focal distance? Manually? Thanks and sorry for my beginner state!
Hi Matt! I shoot a wedding almost every weekend. I've been using the Ronin S for sometime now. I'd say I'm using the gimbal 80% of the time, granted with a small 28mm prime. I am always sore the next day. Do you think a large part of feeling like I'm throwing my back out with each wedding is the Ronin S's size and do you think this gimbal is a solution to that feeling that I won't be able to film weddings much longer due to the physical demands?
Second question, the focus wheel is very important to me on the Ronin S as I shoot all manual focus, and I had to purchase the focus wheel separately. Does this Gimbal have a companion focus wheel? I shoot Panasonic and I read at the time it was only working with the Panasonics for some reason. Thanks for your tips and advice!
Hello: I have a comment. Like many of your viewers / subscribers, I think you as well as all those out there in the TH-cam-verse that has provided your well produced unpacking / beginner's guide / best gimbal review and like have missed the boat on ONE simple aspect regarding the DJI RS3 Mini gimbal - the setup due to the poorly manufactured guide rails absolutely SUCKS!!!!! And as a reviewer, I have yet to see anyone mention that the guide rails for the various arms are difficult to adjust and tighten. I arms move a little bit better; however, the two connected that impact the camera itself are the problem that I see. My setup is easy - Sony a7 IV with a 17-35mm f4 Sony lens. Well, because of the poor build/design of the DJI RS3 mini, one has to constantly dismantle and put all camera trays to the base position so as to allow the gimbal to be stored. Unlike the Pro version of the RS3 - the short length of the gimbal arms do not allow you to stow away the gimbal (anywhere) without placing the trays / arms back to 0. Well, that means every time I want to use the DJI RS3 mini I have to re-adjust all of the arms & trays to balance it. Have you tried moving the various trays up & down the rails - YOU CAN'T and then try to tighten them with those small finger breaking knobs. DJI has done a terrible job at manufacturing and providing a smooth finish of paint to allow the close tolerances of the clamps to move among themselves. i constantly have to diggle the trays with the camera on it to get it to move up or down the rails. UGH!!!!! This manner of adjustments has made my use of the DJI RS3 Mini (which I purchased on your's & other's recommendations) most UN-ENJOYABLE!!!! So, I stopped using it altogether, as it is lying in several un-serviceable pieces on the garage floor at the moment. So, I took out my old Zhiyun WEEBILL-S gimbal - tried and true that has never let me down. Quick setup and you don't have to also setup the lower arm as on the DJI RS3 mini. I hold true to the simple notion - if it doesn't work - then it does not need to be in my bag. Next time, try to tell us about UGH factors in these contraptions as they cost us quite a pretty penny. And when they fail to be useful, it's a good waste of hard earned money as well. Peace OUT !!!!
❓ What else would you like me to review?

So, I took out my old Zhiyun WEEBILL-S gimbal - tried and true that has never let me down. Quick setup and you don't have to also setup the lower arm as on the DJI RS3 mini. I hold true to the simple notion - if it doesn't work - then it does not need to be in my bag. Next time, try to tell us about UGH factors in these contraptions as they cost us quite a pretty penny. And when they fail to be useful, it's a good waste of hard earned money as well. Peace OUT !!!!
you can store the gimbal arms at half-close and lock them so you dont have to re-adjust. Not the greatest for storing though in that position
I'm about to buy this gimbal,I pray I won't regret it,it's my last money.🙏🏾
Anyone balanced an fx6 on this thing?
I still have the ronin s………..as a ornament😂
😂 a heavy ornament
That's because it's a traditional 8 hour wedding. For us who shoot Indian weddings that go for 15 hours, it's a no go..
Only the rs3 pro is made of carbon fiber , the rs3 is magnesium aluminium alloy
Don't laugh, I still use the original RS! And yes, I need a healthy gym workout to use that sucker every weekend.
Dji ronin rsc2 is also lightweight, and better choice than this mini...
07:37 Pantastic!
11:19 impulse for sure but $800 out the door with goodies
footage looked shakey though.
It is a smallish gimbal, definitely not tiny.
eh, not sure I'd trust this. RS3 for me.
✌
yo, your wedding videos are not so good, just to know
Don' t buy it! My rs3 mini stops working after 1 month. Error code 1009
Exactly the same error as I’m getting. Very annoying.
Quite a few people with error 1009 on forums and TH-cam.
