    For the RS3 Mini, if you're looking for added stabilization while it's stationary, consider the DJI Ronin-S/SC Extended Grip/Tripod. It's nearly twice the size of the tripod included in the box.

    Loved this review. So much better than a lot of the other reviews I watched.
    I wish the mini had a little more "umph" to it in comparison to the RS3 but it seems pretty good for what it is.
    I hope there's some kind of "sling" where I can attach a strap to the RS3 to carry outside of my bag? Idk if that's a possibility.

    For traveling, the RS3 Mini is perfect. Not just because of the weight and the size, but the smaller the gimbal, the less you stand out in areas with lots of people. It can be pretty annoying when everyone stares because you're carrying a giant gimbal. And as long as the thing can carry a 24-70, it's all good.

    Just started using the Mini with a Sony A7 IV and 16-35 F4 PZ G and the gimbal is handling the payload very well. Must say that it's not "that mini" when you need to pack everything into a backpack for trekking, but sure... it's smaller than the R3, i'll find a decent packing strategy for this boy.

      @@ZabsAntsTravels I find the A7 IV + 16/35 F4 to be a good travel vlog compromise. Used for some time on the RS3 Mini and it holds well IMO. Very well review👍 not the typical influencer stuff were everything is just awesome.
    Not sure if I did get this right, the GM 24-70 seems pretty much limited? If you can’t face the camera downwards it’s quite tough from DJI so claim it’s compatible. It’s more like 60% compatible, isn’t it? Ideally you have one lens for traveling that fits all. This combo doesn’t seem to be the best then…

    • @NicholasJamesJohnson
      @NicholasJamesJohnson  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can’t face a 24-70 downward when you’ve balanced it at 24 and you zoom it out to 70. If you have it at 24mm you can use it as expected.
      But yeah, zoom lenses with gimbals has always been a challenge; the weight distribution changes A LOT when you zoom way out. That glass in the front if heavy.

      @@erbartlett Thats what I meant.. So the active track is performed by your phone - so whatever improvements have been made to that, you'll still get with RSC2.. DJI RS2 is RELLY similar to the RS3.. It DOES work with raven eye - the motors are a lot stronger than the mini, but then again it weighs even more than the RS3. Ive been using the RS2 without any complaints since it came out.. The 3rd generation algorithm is better, but not by much - you will still get EXCELLENT stabilization out of an RS2. I bought the Mini and wish I had just put the cost toward the Pro. I started with the original Ronin S and liked the idea of a smaller, less attention grabbing gimbal. But I have to take off my battery grip and cage off my Canon R5 which is a bit of a pain. The mini works fine with smaller body and a prime, like a 50mm or 24mm etc. But it feels awkward with the 24-70mm zoom which is starting to max out the weight. And I can't even think about using the RF 70-200mm for the rare occasion I would need that zoom level. At least with the Pro you have more options if needed. Even if it's 50% more mass it's not gigantic in comparison. Might return the Mini for the Pro.

    This is a great review! I'm using an A7siii but I'm not doing professional gimbal work. The Mini might be a great gimbal for travel. I was able to review the Moza Aircross S. Used it with the A7siii and the Tamron 20-40mm. But that couldn't handle a 24-70 unfortunately.

    • @NicholasJamesJohnson
      @NicholasJamesJohnson  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think using the Mini with an A7Siii is RIGHT UP AGAINST the limit - well, with the 24-70 or similar weight lens.. I think it's better suited for the little APSC camera/lens combos. But depending on ones needs - you can squeeze professional video out of an a6600 for instance, in the day time or with great lighting!

    I've been looking for videos that shows how to balance a 70-200 like you did and none show it including you. How did you balance it? Were you able to balance it properly just by doing the autotune?

    • @NicholasJamesJohnson
      @NicholasJamesJohnson  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I mounted it on the lens plate rather than the camera plate, and then just balanced like normal! You obviously can’t balance it looking straight up, but I didn’t need to dis thing special and it worked.
      After autotune it was basically like using any other lens.

    • @errolikalina1998
      @errolikalina1998 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@NicholasJamesJohnson Looking at the video, it doesn't look like you have it on the lens plate at all, it looks like you used the mount under the camera. When you say lens plate do you mean that you mounted the lens on the gimbal?

    • @NicholasJamesJohnson
      @NicholasJamesJohnson  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@errolikalina1998 I just looked again and paused to confirm, but if you look at 9:47 you can see the gimbal is connected to the lens itself - that's PRETTY close to the balancing point because of all the glass in front of it.

    • @NicholasJamesJohnson
      @NicholasJamesJohnson  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a valid concern. It CAN hold it, but if you do any moves where the camera needs to tilt way forward with that lens on, or if you want to zoom out to 70 when you balanced it somewhere in the middle.. you might be better off with the bigger RS3
