Got mine today and I love it. I have all of DJI's gimbals, but this little guy is perfect for a run and gun daily vlogging or lightweight travel setup. It exists basically to compete with the Crane M3, which I feel DJI produced a better product, as they usually do compared to Zhyiun. I am going to run my A7SIII or my FX3 and my Sony 14mm on it. For my 16-35 GM 2.8 I will probably stick to my RS3 as the 16-35 does push it almost to the limit of the mini IMO.
Great review Peter! Just received mine today. Put my a7siii with Sony 16-35pz on it, logged in to the DJI app and installed the new firmware. The balance process was easy and the user interface is a dream to use. This thing is amazing, everything I wanted my old weeble s to be.
It's a gimbal that can work well for professional use and would also be convenient for personal use. It would be great to have cinematic quality footage of family trips.
I mounted a Canon R5 with an RF 24-70mm F2.8L IS USM Standard Zoom Lens + the smallrig handle and it is AMAZING! The fact that something this little can do what it does --- def bang for your buck! Thanks for the video brother.
You're the only reviewer I've seen point out that issue with pushing it to the edges of range of motion and how it didn't hold up to that. Interesting. Doesn't seem like a major problem though
For work, the pro versions are the best choice, as they can handle any combination, even unbalanced setups or extended zoom lenses when necessary. The rs3 and rs3 mini are best for everyday use and travel. Another advantage of the Pro versions is that you can attach a microphone to the top of the camera and still make all the moves you want while filming
My first gimbal was the Zhiyun Weebill-S and that thing was a complete piece of trash and always had some issues going on no matter what. I wish they would have had this gimbal back in the day because it looks like it's pretty damn good by comparison. Anyone coming into the gimbal game should feel extremely lucky to have something like this as an option!
I currently use the S. Overall is a great gimbal but I do get nervous at some ideas I want to do with it. Biggest issue is the locks shaved off the metal so now the motors are loose.
@@ericstahl I came up with some really nice custom numbers I’ll share with you, let me see if I can get these to you in the next comment in the next day or two, I’ve got it pretty buttery smooth now
I watched the DJI tutorial and another one for the RS3 (which I have now, not the mini). I was impressed that I learned more about the menu and some of your perspectives.
Few problems I get with the rs3 mini: 1. all the tutorials are in Chinese?? 2. With some motions the gimbal goes in overdrive acts erratic and frankly spooks the heck out of me.. first time gimbal user but I thought I’d have a lot of freedom working with that?? My set up is well below 2kgs and properly balanced 3. The panorama mode looked promising but what’s with the setup and all those angles? Am I a computer or something? I want a simple view from my camera and I want it to take a simple panorama, how should I set it up??? Without getting too geometrical:D 4. Same goes for Timelapses and waypoints..
I have the ronin S and I really love this new small gimbal, for commercial and wedding, with a a7iii + 28-75mm + videomic pro plus on the top, like a similar setup to the one on your video, you think it is too much weight? Thanks for the feedback and response 🔥🔥
I love the idea of a small compact gimbal to easily bring with me cause I prefer packing as minimal as possible. But then I remember how I shoot and the way I swing around my camera on the gimbal. The second you showed the motors don't hold the weight sideways, it is a no go for me. Keeping the RS Pro on my wish list.
My girlfriend is also a videographer and my RS2 is a bit too heavy for her on longer jobs. I wonder if this would be great for her. Us manly men (lol) often forget that we have some bigger muscles than our female counterparts, so I also believe, that this would could be a first choice for many female content-creators. Mange mandlige bjørnekram fra Danmark
I thought this could be the perfect replacement for my Zhiyun Crane 2s as I was after something smaller, but seeing it struggle on certain angles with the 16-35mm gm lens has changed my mind! Great review as always Peter.
How well does this gimbal work in terms of Bluetooth? For Sony cameras, you've got the imaging edge app. If you're into video shoots, you might have Monitor+ on your phone and now you've got Bluetooth from the gimbal. Do they all somehow work together or will one of these interfere with another?
Hello: I have a comment. Like many of your viewers / subscribers, I think you as well as all those out there in the TH-cam-verse that has provided your well produced unpacking / beginner's guide / best gimbal review and like have missed the boat on ONE simple aspect regarding the DJI RS3 Mini gimbal - the setup due to the poorly manufactured guide rails absolutely SUCKS!!!!! And as a reviewer, I have yet to see anyone mention that the guide rails for the various arms are difficult to adjust and tighten. I arms move a little bit better; however, the two connected that impact the camera itself are the problem that I see. My setup is easy - Sony a7 IV with a 17-35mm f4 Sony lens. Well, because of the poor build/design of the DJI RS3 mini, one has to constantly dismantle and put all camera trays to the base position so as to allow the gimbal to be stored. Unlike the Pro version of the RS3 - the short length of the gimbal arms do not allow you to stow away the gimbal (anywhere) without placing the trays / arms back to 0. Well, that means every time I want to use the DJI RS3 mini I have to re-adjust all of the arms & trays to balance it. Have you tried moving the various trays up & down the rails - YOU CAN'T and then try to tighten them with those small finger breaking knobs. DJI has done a terrible job at manufacturing and providing a smooth finish of paint to allow the close tolerances of the clamps to move among themselves. i constantly have to diggle the trays with the camera on it to get it to move up or down the rails. UGH!!!!! This manner of adjustments has made my use of the DJI RS3 Mini (which I purchased on your's & other's recommendations) most UN-ENJOYABLE!!!! So, I stopped using it altogether, as it is lying in several un-serviceable pieces on the garage floor at the moment. So, I took out my old Zhiyun WEEBILL-S gimbal - tried and true that has never let me down. Quick setup and you don't have to also setup the lower arm as on the DJI RS3 mini. I hold true to the simple notion - if it doesn't work - then it does not need to be in my bag. Next time, try to tell us about UGH factors in these contraptions as they cost us quite a pretty penny. And when they fail to be useful, it's a good waste of hard earned money as well. Peace OUT !!!!
You are awesome Peter, you’re the man, because of this review, I am going to pick one up. But in the meantime, I’m going to binge watch all your videos again 😂😂😂 Love your content Bro.
Great video Peter. Informative and compelling. New subscriber here. The gimbal is a strong competitor for the Zhiyun crane M3 with similar specs, layout, functions and design. I hope the bluetooth connectivity sends a strong message to Zhiyun to upgrade their firmware and look after their M3 customers else they might turn to DJI!!
In the past, I did a few real estate property walk-thru videos using a Zhiyun Crane gimbal which was VERY problematic for me to balance and relatively heavy, and just a real pain in the ass to use. I ultimately ditched it and stopped doing those types of videos. However, I'm now considering doing those types of videos again, among other types, and have been looking at this DJI RS3 Mini. It is not as ergonomic than the weebill 3. And there is no fill light or microphone. Also weebill 3 has 7800mh battery for 21h. The rs3 mini has b’uetooth control which is very good. I can do the same with wb3 with the sony bluetooth remote but still is handy to control directly on the gimbal. Zhiyun must improve here. And dji must bring a wrist rest and fill light dual temp. I want to see a comparaison wb3 vs rs3 mini on the stabilization.

If anybody has the same issue or if you know that is normal for it to do so please let me know.
Not really, as long as i do the calibration before shooting it works fine!
Looks a great piece of gear 👍🏻
Another great video

Thanks! Havent gotten my hands on it!

I just sold all my 2019 gear to purchase this and the 70-200 GMII and the 35mm 1.4
Just a badass combo for a Hybrid shooter

Oh.........BTW We love your channel..........LMAO
Nice gimbal I now have one but hey my Nikon D7200 doesn't have a USB C port!!!!! Need a new camera? Unless a 3.5mm jack to USB C works? Be nice to have a video about what cameras are now best with this RS 3 please Peter
I only use Sony cameras 😊
Forget the gimbal. That was a bad ass RAM at the beginning
Hey Peter. As you use peak design qr plates, have you tried to mount an adaptor on top of the DJI mini plate ? So I won’t have to change plates all the time ?
I can confirm that the plate that comes with this gimbal easily fits onto the Peak Design Carbon tripod and the Gorillapod 5k ball head. Those are the only ones I have tried so far.
@@CAMTechChris it should it is Arca compatible
I am trying find a gimbal to fit my Canon EOS 77D DSLR, do you know which is the best option with full compatibility?
