I love how the group is at the point where they're just assuming that everything wrong they can immediately fix, and not yet at the point of asking if NPCs are present. They seemed to just assume that the cows were mobbing for no reason (not looking for anyone minding or herding them??), and assuming the ship would be unmanned or not being piloted by any crew with any sort of sailing experience. Obviously it leads to confrontational moments like the last one and I'm glad Jerry is responding to it :D

I think the theory I had about what happened to walnuts goddess (I don't know how she is spelled, the one formerly known as the betrayer) a in the comments a few episodes ago turns out to be true.
The druids bound the shardling with her help and that got her lost it fucked her up somehow.
It wasn't a rail road spike, it was a long chisel bar. Phineas used it as a cane until he died. IIRC both the bar/cane and his skull are in the Smithsonian.

What's wrong with "crow's nest"?
Nothing in general, except that people keep making the mistake in thinking that every ship/boat had one. Only whaling ships had them. The thing you think of as the crow's nest was really known as the "top", meaning a place where the lower part of the mast was joined to the upper--every mast that ran square-rigged sails had them. It wasn't a bucket, as is often depicted, but simply where a multitude of ropes came together creating a perch where a sailor, if he paid attention, wouldn't fall off. This is where the lookouts were posted.
In reality, it doesn't matter--I'm mostly just giving Jerry a hard time. Just seems like Jerry likes grammatical accuracy and being grandiloquently verbose.

"A crow's nest is a structure in the upper part of the main mast of a ship or a structure that is used as a lookout point.
This position ensured the best view for lookouts to spot approaching hazards, other ships, or land. It was the best device for this purpose until the invention of radar.
In the early 19th century, it was simply a barrel or a basket lashed to the tallest mast. Later, it became a specially designed platform with protective railing. The barrel crow's nest was invented in 1807 by the Arctic explorer William Scoresby, Sr.[1] A statue in Whitby, North Yorkshire commemorates the event.[citation needed]
It should not be confused with the top, the platform in the upper part of each lower mast of a square-rigged sailing ship."

This is both somewhat right and somewhat wrong. Tops and Foretops were the point where you spotted from on a ship in the early modern period. It was a platform that the shrouds connected to, and had space available for sitting or standing, though it was never technically designed for someone to stay there. The crow's nest was not invented until the 19th century, but it also was in no way exclusive to Whalers, nor did all whalers have them.
However the Crow's nest is in some ways a reinvention. Many medieval ships, especially Cogs, were depicted as having a tower/spotting position placed on the main-mast (in the cog's case usually the only mast). It was even set up with wooden slats to protect the archer/arbalist stationed there. So while maybe a crow's nest is not the correct terminology to use, we don't actually have a word for what they called it (though they probably just called it a top as well, Medieval people weren't really into specificity). Also these were probably only used when the ship was a warring vessel so I dunno. Take it for what you will.

Jerry is an absolutely amazingly creative DM but imo he is too lenient with the metatalk, modern references, etc. Immersion is all but impossible at times and it makes what could b a spectacular campaign something less. Edit so this really is gonna be 'all my walnut'....
These people are so strange - They have an infinite supply of potions and they don't try to get at least one health potion before they leave. The only thing they have spent gold on is feeding the damn horse. They haven't bought any new armor or weapons or equipment of any kind. They also have a box of magic wands and necrotic eyeballs that no one bothers to identify.

It's statistically disproportionate because of the cultural biases of the players. It's fine within reason until it starts to feel like an agenda, which is a popular way to ruin art these days.
