    Hey Jerry (and Ryan): YES you absolutely double your smite dice when you crit!!

    • @jasondevaughn6896
      @jasondevaughn6896 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Tito Rigatoni yup all dice are doubled. Only time they aren't is on a barbarian's brutal critical since it specifies roll extra damage dice.

    • @mikehenderson5338
      @mikehenderson5338 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes, as a Paladin, the melee attack on the Held target should have been hit = auto crit, so 4d6 sword hit +4d8 (min) regular smite or +2d6 wrath smite or searing smite+great weapon master 10+ strength (3) = min 19

    • @TitoRigatoni
      @TitoRigatoni 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Not in 5e; auto-crit is only on an incapacitated target, not on a restrained target.

    • @Hexaedr
      @Hexaedr 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      In 5e auto-crit is on "paralyzed" target, not on "incapacitated" or "restrained". PHB p 292. Hold Person does inflict "paralyzed".

      Jerry doesn't seem to care much for the rules in this show. He treats them more like guidelines to be used as a hook to pull the players along his story when they start getting out of line.

    I thought Spice wore so much perfume because he was suffering from the resurrection curse and he was slowly rotting away. I guess this is fine as well.

    • @Darthquackius
      @Darthquackius 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Malfeason ......it was obvious from the beginning. Before they meet spice she smells strawberries (always does when brama is around). He takes specific care to explain how overly plain the lute is. Finally on a 28 perception all she knows is multiple competing powerful colognes are being used clearly to cover another scent. Also it's Jerry. Lutiae - Carawae.....kinda obvious here. He gave her multiple chances to figure it out on her own and instead he had to b.s. in some shot about foremother revealing it. A power I doubt that sword will have any time Jerry isn't using it to make a reveal.

      Jerry is a railroad conductor. Every time the story starts to stray from his written notes, he makes up rules or NPCs super heroes without actual in game skills to pull it back onto the rails. The players aren't driving anything, he's just letting them decorate their club car on the C-Team express, destination already decided. Like in this episode, 2 of the characters should have flat out died if they followed the rules. Rosie should have been attacked many more times due to opportunity of attacks at the very least. No, Jerry has his story and he isn't going to let any character die.

    • @MrMorganthegreat
      @MrMorganthegreat 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      As pretty much everyone at the table has said on several occasions, this game is driven by its narrative, and the players are very happy with how it runs. As a viewer and a DM myself, I am ALSO way into it. You can run whatever kind of game YOU want, but the first rule of D&D is whatever the table decides supersedes the rulebook.
      In short, I see no reason for you to yuck their yum--let alone continue to watch if you don't enjoy it.

    • @junova7503
      @junova7503 ปีที่แล้ว

      From the very first episode he's ignored attacks of opportunity. Not just in favor of the party but also against. This is likely due to how it becomes a bit convoluted without a battlemap to make it easy.
      As for the claim that he railroads them, that's simply not true as he allows the story to trail far from the original narrative. For instance how the entirety of Team B was originally supposed to be as allies before chat decided the vampires were LARPers so he changed them, then, when Walnut approached them aggressively he made Oak into a jerk and it was only because Walnut showed interest in Brauma when he originally described her that the entire Walnut love interest happened. The story would have been much different had he not played into the actions of the party. This is also seen in how he interacts with the rest of the party such as K'Thriss's chats with various deities (took his eyes when he said he couldn't see) and the fact that, despite them putting it off for so long, he never once tried to push the party into visiting Skiah for Donaar's story. Hell, need I mention that he never planned or even thought it an option when they sent Donaar into the shadow realm?
      At worst he manipulated things, as any DM would, to keep the party together. That's to be expected though because jumping to each members unique stories after they separated detracts from it being a group activity with a shared storytelling experience, aka, the whole point of D&D.

    Yo, Donaar:
    - You can't use two smite spells in the same turn. This isn't a special rule, it's because all those smite-y spells have a Bonus Action casting time, so you'd need more than one bonus action to cast more than one of them. So that turn where you used two different smites, you cheated. But:
    - You kinda cheated yourself out extra damage. You have a class feature called Divine Smite that is not your smite spells. Whenever you hit with an attack you can choose (without expending extra Action/Bonus/move/whatever) to spend a spell slot to deal extra d8s of radiant damage. Starts at 2d8, goes up by 1d8 per slot above 1st. You could've been dealing 2d8 extra rather than 2d6+effects. Further:
    - You can use both a spell smite and your Divine Smite on the same attack. Nothing but your spell slots and your ability to maintain Concentration on the smite spell limits you in this. You could deal both the extra 2d6 from Wrathful Smite and an extra 2d8 from Divine Smite on top of your 2d6 from your weapon. It's banaynay. Finally:
    - Whenever an attack becomes a critical hit, all dice rolled for damage before it is a critical hit are rolled double. That includes your smites. Only dice that happen directly due to crits don't double. This means that if you swung for 2d6 (weapon) + 2d6 (spell smite) + 2d8 (divine smite), on a crit you'd roll for 4d6 + 4d6 + 4d8. Yeah. For real. Note:
    - There's a boring, useful feat called Savage Attacker that lets you reroll melee attack damage once per turn. For burst damage attackers like Paladins and Rogues, it's fairly handy. Again: it's boring, because unlike most feats that's all it gives you.

    Ok this might be crazy. And i kinda hope my theory is not true. But Rosie has had many jobs in her long life. We kinda got a peak into rosies past durring the ritual before the big fight and i got feeling there is a dark past rosie is trying hard to bury. Anywhoo what if rosies dark secret is that she was an assassin and all of her adopted children are the offspring of her former victims and she adppts them as some kind of atonement

    So they _may_ wind up with some Tiamat cultists hunting them... or some shadow dragon type thing (that's fine, no need to worry about that).
    Plus there's been some secret stuff with Oak transpiring this whole time that we've yet to find out. Has what's left of the B Team gone fully rogue?
    And of course, Walnut needs to tell her team mates that her magic has been compromised by the amethyst thing that also stole K'thriss' eyes. Dealing with that _situation_ will likely be the conclusion of season 1. But I suspect it still needs to get its tentacles around Rosie and Dona'ar's magicky sources.
    But imagine finding a way to sick that thing on Tiamat?

    • @IaIaCthulhuFtagn
      @IaIaCthulhuFtagn 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It might already have Rosie's. Remember the shadow version of Rosie that mediated for the shadow king and the Shardling's attempt to alter Walnut by kicking out alternate timeline versions of her. Possibly Donaar's too, who knows what happened to him in the shadow realm.

    • @Caitlin_TheGreat
      @Caitlin_TheGreat 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, that was my thought. I was expecting them to de-couple a lot quicker, that it was just an entrance gimmick. Because it put both of them at serious risk, allowing some effects to easily include both of them and preventing them from flanking for advantage.
      Also, Rosie was pretty slow at getting that stun in there (bad luck it didn't take hold) but combat has been a rarity so it's hard to blame someone for forgetting some stuff like that.

    Have Ryan and Jerry houseruled Divine Smite? RAW, you burn a spell slot to deal 2d8 Radiant damage when you hit with a melee attack, and add 1d8 for each spell slot above 1st. Wrathful Smite, Thunderous Smite and the like are 1st or 2nd level spells and take an action or a bonus action to cast. That way you could cast Thunderous Smite, then next turn hit a creature, deal your normal weapon damage, burn a 2nd level spell slot to deal 3d8 damage, and Thunderous Smite would trigger too, dealing the 2d6 Thunder damage.
    Don't have a problem with how they're playing it, I was just curious. It also means Danaar could do a lot more damage than he is at the moment (an average of 30 damage, as opposed to 15, if I get my quick head-maths correct there).

    • @maximus1973
      @maximus1973 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah I was thinking the same thing, seems like they have made Donaar less powerful

    • @Narfwak
      @Narfwak 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think they just forgot how Divine Smite worked because they saw the smite spells and used those instead. Unless you want the extra burst damage you're almost always better off burning the spell slot on Divine Smite than actually casting a smite spell, so yeah, it did seem a little dumb.
      I think they also forgot about Great Weapon Fighting Style, as he rolled a few 1s and 2s on the damage dice that he could have re-rolled with that feature.
      Oh well, it's not the end of the world. Like last time I'm pretty sure it's mostly down to inexperience with the system and combat in general considering how rarely a fight that lasts more than a turn or two actually happens in this campaign.

      It might be just some aspects of her magic that are warped. Like, growing new life or giving life back to the wounded doesn't make sense for whatever entity is connected to her power right now, but keeping a sucker paralyzed for a while could be more on brand. If I was in that situation I'd load up on stuff that hurts people and see if that works more along the lines of what I'd expect.

    • @zeekeno823
      @zeekeno823 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I agree that the DM is the final say on rules, but I would like to argue why it is somewhat important they get the rules right.
      A) C-team is part of the universe of Acq. Inc. and should use the same rules as the A-team, just for the sake of the story.
      B) They, overall, are trying to abide by the rules in the rule book, it isn't house rules, so when they get something wrong according to the rules they are following, it is deemed wrong.
      I find their custom rules really cool, like the special abilities, combo abilities, etc. but they are buy and large trying to follow the basic rules, so they should try to follow them. I agree that the angry comments should "Cooool out!" but at the same time, players need to play by the rules that they set.

    • @drsch
      @drsch 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      People obviously give a shit about them. The rules are there so that what is happening to this show doesn't happen. The players aren't taking it seriously anymore, they know they aren't going to die and that Jerry will just let them pull whatever they want out of their asses in order to keep it from happening. Every time the players start to wander off the storyline, Jerry adjusts some rules and reality with NPCs to railroad them right back on track. The show is going to eventually become quite dull as a result of this. This episode is a good example. Did anyone think the characters were actually going to die at any point once you realized Jerry was just going to railroad the battle and rescue attempt?

      @wsconsn 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When Tony Stark flew into the portal with the nuke did you really think he was going to die? Even without the trailer showing hulk catching a falling Ironman? In any other game they could just resurrect fallen team members or re-roll a new character. But with Perkins taking resurrection out of the picture, and a serials wanting/needing to keep the same main characters it's not all that unheard of to use dues ex machina to save the party. Jerry put the team in a Kobayashi Maru situation, gave Donnar character development by having his arrogant ass get stomped, but at the same time he took a beating to expose the Princes plot and was rewarded by having Eggy returned to him. Personally I like the way Jerry keeps them all on task, it'd get really boring and convoluted if the four of them just went off on any tangent they wanted. Jerry has to make a show every week, and keep the Shadow Council entertained for two and a half hours and does a lot better job than most of us would in his place. You know what else he did, set up plot thread for season 2. We can now look forward to Connar/Donnar battle combos, finding out that Donnar has become a mocking jay type character being a symbol for the Resistant. We have a Princess Leia character, her family divided, her home at risk of being destroyed, a clan of Dragonborn cultist with a rage boner for Donnar, and those are just the threads I can come up with off the top of my head. If the rules were the end all be all you might as well just but the DM Guide in the DM's chair and set up an auto roller program. You complain that Jerry puts the game on rails, but strictly following the rules is the ultimate rail road.

      yep. K'thriss especially needs to sit down and read the rules and the Warlock description: You CAN'T cast two spells on the same turn. ALL your spells are cast at 3rd level. You only have TWO spell slots.

      Jerry needs to pull things back in. Flubbing rules to make things awesome on occasion can be ok, but at this point everything is just random rulings about everything with no consistency. It's going to kill the adventure eventually because there's no danger and the players aren't taking it seriously. Also, Jerry is a railroad DM who changes the rules in order to keep his players on the rails. Don't even think about messing with his story.

      I feel that. I don't like playing games without first actually learning the rules, myself. They need a rules lawyer at the table! :P
      Also yes: Unarmed strikes are melee weapon attacks. This is true for everyone; not just monks. Stunning Strike and the like work with punches!

      As someone new to D&D (not to use as an excuse for them) I had a hard time trying to understand how everything works purely by reading. There is ALOT to take in and try to make sense of that I guess may not make sense unless you have a feel for the game. Either way, as someone who tried just reading the rules it is really difficult to comprehend what everything means. It is much easier when at least one person does know how things work.

      They're playing dungeons and dragons 5th edition! You can find the core rule books and manuals online. If you want to play, I'd suggest a 1st level session at a local game/comic shop. There are also similar systems, like Pathfinder. There are definitely homebrew elements, if you play with a group of friends you could definitely talk to your DM about implementing some.

      GUTTS THE DEMON SLAYER, start from episode one and it should become pretty clear as Ryan (Donnar) is learning while playing.
      Basically in d&d you say what you want to do and then you roll dice to see if you succeeded, unless your story around it is so good that the dungeon master gives it to you for free or so outlandish that he just says "no". He is the arbiter of that world.

      Do you live in a place with comic or game shops? They often host a game once a week and can walk you through the game and how to play it. That's where I Learned! Also, head over to feel and sundry or Matthew Colville's channel for tips on how to get started. There's decades of material and it's easy to get overwhelmed. I have also heard of people who play on discord. This might be a great way for you to make new friends who are also into table top!

Give them consequences for their stupid decisions. Im not saying kill off their character for them zigging when they should of zagged but you gotta reel in the realism at some point.. Donaar.. poor sweet simple donaar. STUDY YOUR FN CLASS! B4 entering the most important fight of the campaign thus far.

    Watching Jerry ignore the rules and the bad choices the players are making just to keep them from dying is starting to ruin the game. Rosie should, by the rules, died several times during duel. But Jerry won't let his pet die or suffer consequences, as a result the players aren't taking any of it seriously and instead of doing what makes sense, they're going for the ludicrous. She missuses her Ki points on a regular basis and for some reason never seems to trigger any attacks of opportunity when she's ignoring movement and attack rules to fit 3 turns into 1. Additionally, someone needs to pull her aside and explain how the monk works, especially a shadow monk. Ki points don't work the way she thinks they do, she gets 3 bonus actions a turn and she's not supposed to be trying to tank things all the time. Having played two different monks up to level 20 from level 1, it's painful to watch.

    • @KingPeaceus

      Imagine being so upset at how another group plays D&D that you type a whole paragraph, and detail how you are a master of monks because you max leveled two fictional characters in a pen and paper game.

    Sometimes... I... have a difficult... time... Y'know... keeping track... of... what... they're talking, discussing, deliberating... about. Uh... there are... um... a great deal of... pauses. I, I... uh... I... so... um... ah... and then a plethora of... words... come tumbling outatarapidpace, and... sometimes I'll... y'know, miss... important plot points.
    For real, it's taken me a while to get used to the cadence with which Jerry and everyone in the game speak while they're playing. I get it that oftentimes we pause to think of the right word to convey what we mean, but for the first bunch of episodes of The "C" Team, I had no idea what they were talking about.

      I know what you mean, the sometimes-stumbling sentences aren't the best. Personally, I switch the speed of the video up to 1.5x or even 2x, dunno if that would help your problem, but it seems to bring the meaningful words to the forefront, less gaps between what's going on. To be fair, it might have the opposite effect for your issue

      I haven't had any problems understanding them at all. What they're doing is difficult. They're collaboratively writing a story, live, in front of an audience. They're making everything up on the spot, and adjusting mid-stream based on the random results from the dice.
