You probably can't put bigger than 33 inch tires regardless of your wheel size so what is the advantage to going with smaller wheels? Why does Land Rover have to handicap their vehicles by selling them with 19 and 20 inch wheels with low profile tires. They are extremely capable vehicles but it’s like giving a wide receiver a backpack full of rocks. It’s a trade off they have to make between payload and brake size. New Defender has excellent payload capacity but they have to fit bigger brakes for that and so bigger wheels.

Coming from the old defenders... I still think this is more linked to the Discovery models and that LR missed the mark in calling it a Defender. The Defender came in so many options as in SWB (D90); MWB (D110) and then the LWB(D130); Utes; Wagons; Dual-cabs, etc... Cannot see this New Defender having all these options now that they have lost the separate chassis. This Defender is aimed at a different group/class of people now and has lost some of it's appeal... Having now to always select the correct Terrain Response settings for all the different terrains to me will become a PITA and that constant stopping - waiting for wheel-spin before u take off again will also become painful. In regards to maintaining the tracks - having vehicles with Traction Control that require wheel spin for it to proceed does little in preserving the condition of the track... Then there's the whole thing of durability - and longevity and reliability - Only time will tell with this one but for me, there is no way I would that vehicle to the remotest parts of a country until it has proven itself in the long term... With all the electronics/computers - what is the the fall back should there be an issue with one? Will u still be able to drive the vehicle albeit slowly to get yourself back to civilisation?? I'll reserve my opinion for the long term for the moment...
