- Hey! In today's challenge video, we try to find out whether you can beat Sonic Robo Blast 2 Without Collecting Any Rings!
I apologize for the slight delay on this one! This Video was always planned to be a smaller scale Challenge Video, in order to give me some time to tackle a large portion of the routing in Sonic Adventure 2 for it's Ringless Challenge Series. Whilst this is the case, the further in the production I went, the more this Challenge Series took on a life of it's own!
In order to bring you guys the best quality and most authentic portrayal of the journey as possible, I've had to turn the Sonic Robo Blast 2 No Ring Challenge Episode into a 2 part series. This wasn't a decision that I took lightly I can assure you. So once this series wraps up this week; we will finally be tackling the sequel to my favourite Sonic game, Sonic Adventure 2! To find out whether it's possible to beat the game without collecting any rings!
Since the last video, you guys have come out in droves and supported this channel more than I could have ever imagined! Surpassing the 700 subscriber milestone and inching ever closer to the big 1k!!! Thank you so much for your continuous support! Words cannot describe how much this community means to me!

I can't wait for Sonic Adventure 1, or Sonic Adventure 2! Can you beat Sonic Robo Blast 2 without collecting a ring? I guess I could always do so in Sonic Adventure DX; or Sonic Adventure 2 battle, Shadow The Hedgehog is my favorite character, especially his battle against Fang the Sniper, like Super Shadow vs Super Sonic, or Super Shadow vs Eggman! Same with Tails and Knuckles, and even Sonic The Hedgehog!!! Sonic... Did you guys read those Sonic Frontiers Leaks? Insane right?! What about Sonic Origins or Sonic Prime? Maybe even the Sonic Movie and Sonic Movie 2, I might do a Sonic Movie 2 Review when it comes out, my favorite port has to be Sonic Adventure 2 battle and I hope we get a Sonic Adventure 3 someday. For sure I'll be doing a Sonic Adventure 2 review, maybe even cover some Sonic Leaks and Sonic discussion... About Arid Canyon Act 1,
There are actually two separate ways to complete the stage with Shadow; the first one I found was to repeatedly bounce on the gold speed shoe monitor until you get enough height to turn the corner and land on the top of the TNT path. The second, and way less tedious, is to use Shadow's Chaos Snap to reach the wooden bridge on the TNT path (which can be most clearly seen at around 19:37)

It's such a hidden gem, which shocks me as it's honestly one of the best Sonic Fan Games I've ever played in my life.
even if it didn't have mods, it would still be a fantastic game...but with the mods you can basically play infinitely and never get bored, plus you can use models or sprites depending on what you like better which is great

Honestly you should give it a shot! By far one of the best fangames Sonic has to offer, with a boat load of fan content to boot. All made in the Doom engine of all things! :D

edit:also,shadow is a mod,not a vanilla character,so you'll have to download the mod if you wanna play as him
it's a great game, it's pretty much complete, it has mods (and lots of them), and it's still being actively developed

9:52 You just have to hold forward. The position of the ring circles accounts for you holding forward after jumping on the spring.
For some reason I kept hitting the top of the loop though, I might have been releasing the stick a bit early.

Arid Canyon 1 is possible ring-less with shadow. During the 1st section with TNT there's an elevated Platform that only Tails and Knuckles can reach, it's a massive skip if you get up there but Sonic can't. Shadow just has to stand on the highest possible surface he can stand on, and double Snap up. Specifically the fence nearest to the wall opposing the TNT and falling wall. Once you reach that it's fairly easy to get by with shadow, but the section where you have to roll under a wood barricade is easier done through Fang's route, on the left there's a platform, walk across that and take the Tornado Path to reach the deadliest part of Arid Canyon 1, the last section. But some well timed Chaos Snaps should get you across, occasionally jumping onto a zip-line to recharge the Chaos Snap.
Oh shoot really?! See I never knew about that since I usually play as sonic in this stage but that's really great to know that it is possible.
@@challengerjakku1943 Also Act 2 of Arid Canyon is possible with Adventure Sonic. Holding down the Spindash button charges the Light Speed attack, which goes through the Wood Barrier, Don't let go, that will activate it, but it will target both Rings and Enemies. Press Custom 3 to activate it instead, then it won't Target Rings, but it will target enemies.

One thing I'd say is that the bosses should probably be 1-hit = retry, since that's what would happen if you took damage. Good video.
True, I was considering it at first but some of these boss fights especially later in the game were just absolutely brutal and not very fun to play I have to be honest.
That's mainly the reason why I gave myself the one hit since that would get rid of the rings as well.

What was the challenge you couldn't beat?
@@challengerjakku1943 beating fire emblem raident dawn with every enemy dead, there's exactly 6 missions that stop me and 3 of those were a enemy called the black knight and 2 were kill a certain number of enemies ( and the last was just stupid hard but possibly)

To answer your question, the last time Eggman had a castle was in Shadow the Hedgehog, specifically Cryptic Castle.

you know, something that might be interesting after taking the story mode on, could be seeing how many of the emblems in the game are posable, as well as the extra stages. this way you can see how close you can get to 100% without collecting rings (and yes, i know that there are the ring trial emblems making it imposable, but i think its a good idea to see how close you can get)
Honestly that sounds like an awesome idea, it's something I'll definitely look into on the side!
I do wonder if the time trial emblems are beatable ringless as well, given that I took my sweet time in a loooot of these stages. 🤣
@@challengerjakku1943 i love this game so much, so i would love to see it. if you end up needing help, i would also ask the speed running community for routing or other ideas. also, metal breaks the game almost as hard as tails in some places, and harder than shadow for sure.

@@challengerjakku1943 thing is, while i have speed ran the game myself, im not sure if you can. there is such a thing as "minecart skip" that skips the inside part, but in order to set it up, you need to go into the inside part for a bit and turn around. this would require you to get the rings on both the slope, and the first turn inside. so unless there is a new skip that has been discovered since then that i dont know about, i dont think you can

this is just ultimate mode if the rings werent replaced and was slightly harder

I tried it with the Adventure Sonic addon (which can break through the minecart section doors) and well, good luck with Egg Rock Zone

@@challengerjakku1943 Yes, with a spindash he can. Along with this I think Modern Sonic is able to use the rails without the minecart, allowing him to jump out whenever he wants. Obviously those abilities aren't vanilla-friendly though.
in ACZ2 you can jump off the minecart with whatever button you set as spin.So you could open the door as tails,then leave the minecart and fly to the next section.
I'll have to try that, whenever I tried to jump off the minecart it would just end up taking a life.

On Arid canyon act 2 is possible to finish the act ringless but requires a TAS only route. and skipping a large section of the last minecart section

Honestly, it's one of the best sonic fan games out there.
i'd like to add one thing related to arid canyon:
while it isn't possible to skip the entire final minecart section in singleplayer, there is a glitch known as minecart skip which can skip a majority of the indoor section of the final minecart by entering the area, taking the first loop and backtracking to where you start leaving the area through the entrance, and then making a precise jump (this is often used in speedruns of the level). this skips some of the rings but not all of them as you still collect at least 7 in the indoor section

@@challengerjakku1943 Unfortunately, without using multiplayer, 9 rings have to be collected in the final minecart section. The first two are on the first upward slope, and the last 7 are indoors before doing Minecart Skip. And while it does look kind of hard to pull off, it actually isn’t that difficult. Maybe it’s just because I have had to do it multiple times (Since I myself have had an SRB2 Minimum Ring Challenge series myself where multiplayer is off limits,) but the minecart tracks can be used as a very easy guide to get the timing right.

the inclution of shadow in SRB2 is official, so does this count?
also just incase you didn't know, amy,metal sonic, and fang are unlockable characters without mods
I consider it fair if the other characters are capable of skipping what Shadow can, and in the case of Tails he is capable of performing all of these skips as well. So sure!
@@challengerjakku1943 now that I think about it even though mods dont count as part of the game, its still one of many ways to balance things out to keep the content interesting. I still think it doesnt count
Well you can actually beat it, whenever the Minecart turns you should sometimes jump and you will skip some of it, near the inside go in and go on the other lane and go back, then once you turn, immediately jump on you should skip a whopping lot of the rail and land at the goal post, watch out for the rest because I expect rings there.

Arid canyon 2 Is possible without rings in singleplayer, Modern sonic can boost through the minecart doors. So can adventure sonic. But it will be hard to get to the goal.
there are rings in the zoom tubes of erz, you might be able to avoid them with shadow since he can spindash past 64 wide activators, and can teleport through the rings in the way, but that sounds like a bad idea to rely on bcas you already stated the run is only completable with tails and you're using shadow because it's more fun and not to make a point.
I'd say the glitch is valid. Run's still good. Also fun fact: Fang's original name was Nack the Weasel. Interesting tidbit.
I do agree, just a bummer it's not possible to do it in Single player because of how the doors work.

And yes, i was the same. XD but apparently that was his original name and kept it in various comics (mostly Fleetway), and was called Fang in other releases after Triple Trouble. (Nack sounded too close to Knuckles, so it was changed.) He also had a sister named Nic. And Fang has a confirmed kill count in the comics.
what mods do you use ?
Just the shadow mod for this, but I love using the surge mod in my free time!
I personally think that the co-op glitch is viable. You asked if it was possible to beat the game ringless. And you found a way to beat the stage without collecting a single ring. Though the method wasn't by an means a conventional one, you still beat the stage ringless. Therefore proving you can beat it ringless, you just have to do it through by other means, and if it works, it works. Also I love how you included the peach rings rule here, where you always start out with ten rings in a boss fight no matter what - and you didn't pick it up therefore it doesn't count.
At any rate, I believe the 2 co-op is viable. Because though you used another method, you still go the end result of beating the stage ringless. Proving you can beat it ringless, just not through the way the lvl was intended.
When you told me about the concept, it was just such a good idea I had to include it for future runs! xD
I definitely agree with you, and that was my thought process as well but it was just such a bizarre situation at the time I wasn't sure whether I could say it counted. I've been thinking recently that it might be viable in single player if you play as Sonic with Tails Assist... Maybe I could get Tails to enter the Minecart and position Sonic quickly enough for the skip? I just haven't really had time to test it though.

I mean... There is Ultimate mode, which just removes the rings. So it's still beatable without them.
Also, I would recommend you to use vanilla Sonic instead of Shadow by some, probably, obvious reasons.
The point of the challenge is to see if the levels are beatable whilst avoiding the rings, taking them out kinda defeats the purpose of the run.
I was going to play as tails or one of the base characters originally, but I just find shadow more fun to play as personally.
@@challengerjakku1943 I know about purpose changing after getting rid of rings, but challenge may change for better as well, like, without rings it would be very hard to go through Badniks and bosses.

From what I've heard ultimate mode gets rid of all the rings, which defeats the purpose of the challenge run which is to see if the stages are beatable whilst avoiding the rings.

@@challengerjakku1943 it activates ultimate mode: no rings, no shields*, one life**, no save mode, but thankfully 100% optional
*golden shield monitors, such as the golden whirlwind monitor in RVZ, still appear as they are usually required in certain sections
**you can rack up continues if you keep picking up emerald tokens after obtaining all 7 chaos emeralds, which can allow you to retry a stage, however you must start from the beginning

The only "mod" that was used is the Shadow Add On, that's why it says that. This challenge would be even easier with Tails, but I had just used him in my Adventure runs at the time so i wanted something different.

Oh right, I know what mod you're talking about. This is kind of different though since the rings are actually in the stages, so I have to avoid them. The no ring challenge mod gets rid of rings from the stages completely.
Anyways why do you think that shadow is the only mod that can homing attack

Right, originally I was going to use tails. I went with shadow in the end as I wanted a change, to be honest tails has a far more easier time in this run than shadow so I don't feel too bad about using a mod character.

Taking the other path as Sonic will still require you to collect at least 3 rings because of a spring. It is less rings than the other path, but as Sonic alone this stage still takes 4 rings total to beat.
