Audi A8 and A6 with 3.0TDI engine. Both for oil pressure software upgrade but one was too late....

  • Welcome to another video.
This time we have two cars with the same engines. Audi A8 came for oil pressure software upgrade as prevention and general check out. After the check on the ramp we had to replace the suspension bushing and tensioner for the generator. The A6 had some noise coming from the engine so the owner agreed to pay tear down from top to confirm any internal issues and this is what we found ...

No, that’s just your dealership. Our dealership constantly does bushing services - they’re not unusual. Also, it may depend on the age/mileage of your arms as well. If your bushings are cracked/separated but you ballpoint boots are splitting: I’m not recommending just bushings. Also, if a car comes in with over 100,000 miles on control arms with bad bushings, probably not recommending just bushings due to the mileage on the arms. Preventative maintenance.

Your phone picks up the lower tone of the issue quite well. Easily distinguished from the injector clicking. Tyre wear on both outer edges but not the middle is normally an indication of a tyre run underinflated for a long time. It must really help you when telling the customer the faults when you have this video to show him.

These engines have an amazing amount of excess wear for the miles they have been driven. They don’t seem to build these V6 engines to last. I had an early Q7 V6 diesel from new in 2004 and remapped it early in its life, which made a huge difference to the performance of the engine and six speed automatic. I ran it for six years and over 70,000 miles with no engine or transmission issues. It did eat tyres every 10,000 to 12,000 miles. I’m now very glad I did not keep it for my occasional 200,000 miles like my Toyota Land Cruiser 4.2 diesel.

28:38 There is a lot of dirty sludge visible on the cam covers in this engine. The huge wear on the gears and chains is 100% due to poor past maintenance, most likely with the cheapest oil the original owner(s) could buy, not helped by the factory low oil pressure programme.

I have the 4.2 D3 mate, such good cars, im an independent like these guys and have no issue owning a D3. The new stuff, the problem is poor servicing essentially. They end up at franchised joints using cheapest oils with low experienced techs, not always their fault by the way. I have a 2019 3.0 tdi Touareg, I also have vcds full software. What value do you change to get the safer oil pressure as you recommend? Thanks

I think I skipped too far first 😅. I have an a6 c7 3.0 218hp . The famous crt 😢. My engine is gone at 210.000km and I replaced with and ddv engine 3.0 286hp from the a6 c8 . The swap went very well. I wanted to remap for the oil pressure but I wanted to be sure first . Thx for the reply and good job !

Is it safe to assume flashing the ECU to raise the oil pressure will void any Audi warranty you may have?

Yes any manipulation with soft will … but what 7 year old car have warranty from Audi ?

If you had £30k to spend on an Audi, what would be the most reliable model/engine to go for? I don't want to be in and out of the garage I'm used to Lexus/Toyota.
