    When I upgraded from my 2020 to my 2023 Duramax 3.0 LZ0, I almost went with the ZR2 but it was (as you said here) the fact that the engine choice was just not appealing. I completely agree with you. I went with the Trail Boss instead with the 3.0 LZ0 and have really enjoyed it. Just threw that PPE carbon intake tube in it with the stock air-box to test their stuff out.

    Good call with the red. The slate grey is cool but it seems like everyone has it and the red goes so good with the black and other red accents and that's coming from a guy who prefers blue over red.

    Also, I did change oil at 1400 miles. Amsoil and wix filter. Also using Hot shots in the fuel. Gained a couple mpg's, so am impressed.

    • @DemonWorks
      @DemonWorks  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      I would say that was too soon for the oil change, not broken in. Also want to add that 1400 miles would be too soon of an indicator of what your mpg was to have an accurate increase in mpg.

      @kristoferfc6525 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      I did mine at 1000 with AMSOil and an AMSOil filter too. I get the whole, too soon thing, but after draining it I was surprised how water like it was compared to my AMSOil drain after 5k miles....very interesting

    • @2cthetruth
      @2cthetruth 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I know it’s too soon, but fresh oil within the first couple k miles gives me peace of mind. Oil was black as coal and filter had some flakes, so it did its job. As far as the mpg, first tank was incredible, second tank it tanked, third (after oil change and additive) bounced back. Time will tell,, but happy rn.

    My ZR2 has 1700 miles on it and the oil level hasn't changed, if it is using some during breakin, I can't see it on the stick, I also didn't use any oil in my old LM2. I believe the largest factor in oil usage (but not the ONLY possible factor) is proper breakin and heating and fully cooling the engine to greater temps over time to slowly relieve the stresses in the metals from the manufacturing process. The 6.2 is a higher horsepower option with less torque, much worse mileage, and a reasonable chance of lifter failure (still) at some point in it's life. The 3.0 LZ0 is the lower horsepower BUT higher torque choice that doesn't have DFM or lifter failures due to being collapsable, and the MPG's while lower than my LM2 and with DEF usage a little higher, I completely expected these things going from an RST/LM2 to the ZR2/LZ0. I, for one, am not disappointed.

      @@mzrzfxr, I agree, totally sus and cringe. I wish I had a nickel for every factory assembly video I've watched were the tech doing the work was eyeballing anything and everything except what they were working on, I know it must get boring, and I'm sure having done something thousands of times they think they could do it with their eyes closed, but lack of attention to the details is exactly how this stuff happens. I had a MY23 Silverado ZR2 and loved it, but I would have preferred the diesel. I'm with you, it should have had an LT4 but GM must not had wanted to pay the Government tax for mileage as those fines eventually caught up to Dodge and Ram. I liked the 6.2 well enough but I would have preferred the LZ0 had it otherwise been available in MY23. You don't make money off buying and selling this trucks every year so if I were to get out from the 6.2 V8 and into an LZ0 ZR2 in MY24, it was likely going to cost me. (Thanks, GM!)
    I ordered an equally equipped MY24 ZR2 in silver but before it came in, I found a heavily discounted Ram 2500 Rebel with 6.7 Cummins for like $14k off MSRP and bought it instead. Gave up nice camera rear view mirror and the color HUD, but gained a handful of other obvious things. I figured if I were going to make the move to a diesel, that truck may check all of my boxes and provide a little better value in the long run. Time will tell. I was considering a 2500 HD Silverado ZR2 with the L5P, but you won't beat the fuel economy and cost of ownership of the LZ0. I loved the cameras on the ZR2, particularly when parking and how I could see all four wheels. The ZR2 package was awesome; put that on a Tahoe with the LZ0 and I might trade my wife's Navigator in for one of those.

      I have a 22 ZR2, stock suspension, I had to clearance a bit behind and in the front to fit a true 35x12.50. I also have different offset wheels, they're a bit wider offset. If I wanted to do it again and make the tires fit without rubbing I think I would try to keep the stock wheels and run a 35 with 1.10.5 or something closer to that, but I wanted those 701 Methods with the beadgrip. @@2cthetruth nope, the AEV ZR2 wasn't available the first year. And my dealer wants $4300 for just the front bumper which makes me want to puke. I believe you'll need to clearance the rear area towards the cab still regardless of bumper, since I had to do mine, but I also didn't lift it yet. I have a front lift that I haven't put on yet because I'm waiting for a custom leaf pack from Deaver so the whole truck is lifted. I carry about 1300lbs of stuff in the back of my truck with my Decked draw system and other tools in the cab. So right now with stock suspension the truck sits perfectly level lol

      Transmission servicing for this 10 speed auto is a nightmare. No dipstick. No drain plug. Just a plug on the side to add/fill. Definitely a transmission shop or dare I say dealer job.
