23’ ZR2 owner with 17k on the dash. No issue. Ever. I work as a mobile nurse so I travel 80-90 miles a day and I turn off and start my truck 7-8 times a day. Michigan weather throws everything at it. I had no other choice but the 6.2 or else I may have opted to get that baby duramax. Depends on how I drive the 6.2 but I’d say you aren’t getting much favors from the ZR2 stance. Badass looking but I’ve averaged 16.5 with plenty of pulls here and there. Overall it’s been a great family truck/work truck and overall badass daily.

@ you’re correct that I don’t listen to AM radio since I use satellite radio when needed. I will say that I do listen to FM radio on occasion and I haven’t noticed a major loss with it. Was a hard pick between the 5.3 & 3.0 2024 but I live in the city, so long term the gas engine felt like it would be better for fuel costs and regen which is hard to achieve where I live with a diesel engine if I don’t get out on the highway and really run it. @8:02 he said the trail boss comes with an electronic locking in that is incorrect we have seven trail boss vehicles they all have mechanical locking rear ends.
All of our 6.2 L trail bosses have over 230,000 miles on them as they get driven about 80,000 miles a year out in the west Texas oil fields and really have had zero issues other than a few alternators and a starter here and there.
March 2024 we purchased three trail boss with the little minimax diesels and those things have been pure junk they're always in the shop for some sort of emissions related problem. We have already ordered their replacement with gasoline engines they will be here in about another week.
One of those little mini Max diesel had to have a motor at 28,000 miles because it ingested its own injection pump knocked a hole in all six cylinders
Also you were talking about you have an average of 10.2 miles a gallon on that 6.2 L I'm sitting in my 2022 model right now with the odometer reading 166,000 miles
I have never set the trip meter on it so it gives the average for the entire life of a vehicle on the fuel economy even with long idle times in the oil field mine is showing 13.7 right now.
After the experiences we had putting that little mini max through its paces out here in the Dusty West Texas area they should knock off a couple of thousand dollars for anyone even purchasing that little diesel. But I guess if you're just gonna get it for a little concrete queen or a grocery get her it's probably gonna last forever but not for real men's jobs

From what I’ve read, the hurricane will have more horsepower, but less torque. However, the hurricane is replacing the V8 as their high end engine option so it would be more fair to compare it to the 6.2 from GM. That comparison shows the 6.2 having more horsepower and similar torque.

Honestly I’d go with the 6.2l no matter what (the aftermarket has tons of proven upgrades for power and reliability. And sounds insane with a cam and borla exhaust!) mainly because I like the 18” deep dish trail boss wheels, and the dssv is kinda meh compared to a full fox coilover lift. And I’d also rather the 2020 model year style (how many model years was YOUR EXACT style available??) Not quite sure of the price discrepancies, but I would take the newest model year, lowest mileage 6.2l trail boss lt I can find (with your fascia, again not quite sure how many model years it went for…2 maybe 3? 20,21,22, maybe 23? I dunno when the “refresh/updated styling came into play, but I want the old one like yours. And the money I save vs buying a 2024 z r2 mini max….id do an intake/exhaust/tune to my 6.2l AND full fox coilover lift with UCA’s and hydro bump stops…for the same money or less!

Trail boss wheels aren’t normally deep dish. Of course there’s a lot of performance upgrades you can get for the 6.2l which is awesome for those with the money and inclination to do so. A lot of them are still going for the mid 50k range though. Also, my buddy looked at doing something similar to what you’re suggesting as was quoted 11.5k to have it done. That gives you a good lift and tires, but not the manual lockers and no front locker. That may not be of importance to you, but to get that would be pretty expensive. You’d be better off getting a used ZR2 with the 6.2L and then doing suspension if you wanted to get the manual lockers. However, you’d lose the front end look it sounds like you’re going for. The DSSV is unmatched. Calling Fox, King, Bilstein and they all say they have nothing better to offer for stock setup. It would be difficult to say that a suspension conversion is “better” would be subjective to what you’re trying to accomplish. Because the DSSV is so damn good, I’m hesitant to modify the suspension in any way that eliminates it.

STAY AWAY! I purchased 2 GMC Sierra’s last year, the first one was a SLT and I had a few issues, mainly lack of towing features. SO… I traded it for the 3.0 AT4 and initially I LOVED IT! Then I started towing my 6,000n lb camper. On my first trip I topped off the DEF at about 300 miles. Then 100 miles later I got the DEF LOW warning SPEED REDUCED in xxx miles. WTF! So I pulled over when I could and tried to put DEF in the tank, IT WOULD NOT TAKE IT??? I had 1000 more miles to go and I had DEF on hand, over the truck Alan was wondering WHEN WOULD THIS TRUCK STOP? Long story short, I had to find a campground, unhitch and take the truck to service. On the way to service the truck fixed itself??? They ran diagnostics and said your truck is GREAT?
I hooked up and at another 300 miles the same warning came on, then it went away just before miles were reduced. the truck was in a an out of service with no solution. My father, a former GM HD Truck Engineer said “Dump that thing” and that what I did. I now have a Ford Powerstroke 2500.. NO PROBLEMS.. GM took that truck out of the oven too soon.
If you drive to the grocery store, Lowe’s. ECT this truck is great! MPG id amazing, I actually got 30 MPG on the highway. If you actually use the truck, to work… AGAIN STAY AWAY!

I get 15 mpg towing my 7000 pound trailer and I just keep DEF with me in case I actually run out.

How are you determining their size? Do you check out pair on all trucks? Weird flex, but okay. I’m kidding, but I am curious about how you’re measuring that. Is it the horsepower? Is it the torque? Is the the sound it makes? How it pushes you back in the seat?

Do yourself a favor and just buy a Tundra Iforce Max. More HP and torque. No high diesel cost no DPF fluid and they don’t rust out in 4 years.

That’s an option, but it doesn’t have what I was looking for in a truck and I don’t like the looks of the TRD Pro as much. Plus I hate the micro transaction navigation that Toyota has implemented.

@@MOHAWKAUTO glad you got what you like. I was going to get a a new 2024 Chevy trailboss LT2 and I must say that mechanical locker was very appealing spinning so much before it kicks in. I have noticed a lot of people like getting stuck before the locker kicks in. I will say I got the 1794 TRD off road and the Chevy has nothing on it. I love the panoramic sun roof vs the little Chevy sunroof. I plan to install a 6 inch lift and I have a electronic locker. I feel sorry for the people who get the custom model. I do like the look of outside Chevy but not so much with those hard leather seats.

@@CharlesZupan the tremor is more money (high package to be similarly equipped) for a truck that doesn’t appear to have a front locker and that neither locker can be manually controlled. Not to mention neither of the engine options can get the fuel economy of the 3.0 Duramax. I did look at the Tremor though when looking at trucks.
