GM should make the seats they had back in 2000-2006 for their full sized trucks and SUVs. They were comfortable. I had a 2001 GMC Sierra SLT. Way more cushioning than what they have now.
Yes I had an 2007 Limited old body style. The seats were comfortable and easier to clean. Along with rug on floor too it had 265,000 miles I’m hoping my 2022 does the same I just don’t like material on seat
Agree! Had a 2000 suburban and could drive that thing 500 miles 3 days in a row no problem. Currently have a 2003 1500hd and I run out of gas way before my butt hurts.
I have had 2 of the 3 liter GM diesels, a 21 LM2 and a 24 LZ0, neither burned any oil (21K on LM2 and 3K on LZ0), and they both used DEF at 2-3% of fuel used, towing or not, currently just fit 2.5 gallons of DEF in the LZ0 with 110 gallons of diesel used so far. If you are towing, you are using more fuel, and DEF usage will be up, no way around that.
I purchased the 24 Trail Boss LT Durmax. I like the 3.0 engine. I haven’t towed anything yet, but I definitely like the mileage. I have the sunroof, but I wish it was panoramic.
I have a ‘23 RST. Just changed the oil at 4500 miles and haven’t noticed any oil consumption. My DEF was draining at about a gallon every 1k miles. But now at close to 5k I’ve only used a small amount of DEF. I don’t think every 3.0 burns oil. In exchange for that my rear window leaks. So I’m not without issues.
Picked up my 2024 LZO High Country with max trailering beginning of January and have about 2000 miles on it now. I live in central IL, and have seen no oil consumption yet and used only 2 out of 8 bars of DEF. So i have no complaints there. The seats, were very stiff at first, but seem to be breaking in and i actually find it pretty comfortable now. I have yet to tow with it, but next month its gonna stretch its legs hooked to my 24 foot enclosed trailer at 9500 lbs. Pretty excited to see how you offroad your ZR2
Good video, thanks. I haven’t had any issues on my 3.0 yet with a lot of def usage or oil consumption, maybe I got a good one. One thing I think is the panoramic sunroof is way over rated. My f150s all had them 2015-2017-2021 and I’ve ended up being a non fan after 8 years. On my 24 GMC at4 I love the smaller sunroof. The large one had wind buffeting at high speeds opened or opened up. The kids didn’t like the sun shining on them in the summer when travelling. I overall liked the panoramic sunroof but prefer the smaller one. Not to mention the panoramic has a history of going off track and failing, happened to my wife’s ford edge, and if there’s a crack is $2000 Canadian to fix. Overall cool truck. I’m enjoying my 2024 3.0 way more than any of my 3.5 ecoboost or v8 coyote.
I have a 2022 refresh with 50,000 mi and mine does not consume any oil and I use 1 gallon of Def per thousand miles on average. I did just get a new oil pan and crank seal but I still never had to add oil.
I’m wondering why don’t the manufacturers don’t make the bumpers out of forged aluminum for the off road trucks? Wouldn’t that be optimal for scratches and scrapes. Don’t have to worry about scratching paint off and rusting.
The seats are painful and just unacceptable because they use to be comfortable in any trim level. For the price they charge for vehicles and this is what you get. 1- are the GMC seats better and 2- are the HD truck seats better in either brand? Thanks for the video
Tim, I think the interior piano black plastic surfaces getting dusty really depends on where you live and drive. I have a 22 Tundra 1794. The black trim in that truck rarely gets dusty unless I travel on our gravel roads or take it to the back of my property especially in the summer. Otherwise it's not much of an issue. As for the exterior, I really dislike flat black plastic on any vehicle. It just screams cheap. Plastic is plastic, if you are off road it’s going to scratch regardless. As for the LZ0, it seems like a good compromise for most, though I’d rather not feel I have to add mods to the engine to compensate for poor engineering, spending more money on top of that 75k.
GM spent a ton of coin redesigning the interior because the 2019 initially launched with a cheap looking interior from the 80s. And although much improved still falls short of both the Ford and the RAM...
At the time I ordered my Trail Boss the ZR2 wasn't available. Now its a good package compared to a upper level 6.2L LT Premium Trail Boss like I have. I tow frequently so those DSSV shocks would have to go.
For what you do the high country was the better fit . Even though it can tow the ZR2 still is more of an enjoyment vehicle. Although if it were me I’d go ZR2 . 🤔
Payload always sucks in the zr2 ( offraod shocks) Z71 is better! I also hate the gloss black, especially in the cab. What's the lift difference between the Zr and trail-boss ?
Traded a 2019 ram 1500 Laramie for a 2024 ZR2 1500 Duramax. Both trucks have their strong points. Headlights seat comfort visibility keyless entry cornering brakes and body styling all go to the Ram. The ZR2 rides about the same but soaks up the bigger bumps better, I’m averaging 25 mpg powertrain goes to the Zr2 and I absolutely love the rear camera. And because it’s the Zr2 edition stock for stock it looks way better than the ram and has significantly better off-road capability. The seats don’t feel uncomfortable or hard to me but the rams were better. I like how GM allows you to turn the auto high beems on and off. And I actually give the nod to the Chevy on the interior. But my Laramie was a base with no 12 inch display
This is why I’m in between this truck and the f150 king ranch or limited. I feel like ford gives you more inside the truck, but Chevy does make a beautiful truck outside.
My 2023 GMC SIERRA with the LZ0 used 12 ounces oil first oil change, 5 ounces of oil second oil change. I have switched to Mobil 1 ESP X2 0w-20 oil which has the DEXOS D rating. This oil is readily available at AUTOZONE in 5 quart jugs for about $37 ($7.4/quart). If you buy it by the quart it’s over $11. I live in “PODUNK” NM and don’t have any problem finding this oil. DEF useage is about a gallon every 1,000 miles (no towing). My fuel economy has been 28 mpg over 12,000 miles (hand calculated). If you’re going to tow a lot buy a 3/4 ton, IMO.
Quick question: if you have choose between an AT4 with the 6.2 L gas engine and a Chevy ZR2 with the Duramax 3.0 l, both 2025's, which would be your choice?...your input is greatly appreciated.
The gloss black plastic on the interior of my 22’ 1500 LTZ drives me insane… looked great the day I picked the truck up and has annoyed me ever since 😅
If you could get these trucks with better seats and the option to remove all the nanny parts of the programming, they would be vastly better. Also, anyone who says that oil usage is normal is just making excuses for poor quality. I think that engine would be perfect if they just figured out the oil consumption issue.
I'm still waiting for the LT4....... the diesel zr2 is kind of a dog compared to the 6.2l. The fact they never re-geared the truck for the bigger tires and weight makes a big difference. LT4 is what needs to be under the hood. Cool looking truck though for sure.
In the real world I'm seeing $10,000+ discounts on ZR2 and Raptors are still all at least MSRP. For the price difference I'll take that front locker, good MPG and live without the 35s or Fox shocks.
If you had a panoramic sunroof on that truck it would lower the payload further. I’ve experienced problems with stone chips on the front bumper in the past when my truck had body color bumpers. I found the chrome bumpers held up better (I know the chrome is out of style right now). I’m not sure what the answer is. Beautiful truck.

Tim, It Almost sounds like you Still have a Bad taste from NOT getting the price you wanted, from your Old Diesel 3.0. Remember? But, I Don't like hearing that they use oil. Not good. I think you should ask if everyone that owns a 3.0 diesel, if They are All using 1 to 2 quarts between oil changes?
If that’s the five things you don’t like, I would say General Motors is doing pretty well. The only legitimate bitch you have is maybe the seats aren’t comfortable. But you don’t like shiny black accents really…… I bought a 23 high country because of you, I have no issues with engine oil consumption, and I don’t do much towing so I don’t have a DEF issue. I personally like the piano black on the interior as well. Love the Duramax averaging 26,27 miles to the gallon. road trip to KC was getting 30.
Beautiful truck...steel bumper is great until rock chips start to rust...look at all the older Tahoes and suburbans driving around with awful rusting bumpers....awful!
Great review Tim, thanks. I appreciate your honesty up front about the oil consumption, my Amazon delivery guy has the Silverado with the diesel and that was one of the first thing he mentioned. I then got the owners manual and I found out that “THE ACCEPTED OIL CONSUMPTION” according to GM was 1 QUART PER 2000 MILES and 1000 During towing I ran from the hills! I mean my 12 year old VW diesel burns 1quart in 10,000 miles, WTF? I mean I am a diesel guy and I like that baby duramax for its performance and fuel economy numbers BUT Im sorry I would not put my hard earned cash down on one with this new duramax. Not happening.
Good review I’d love to do a Silverado diesel for the mileage but I rather have a panoramic roof there’s nothing like it and once you have it once you’ll always want it. The Tundra hybrid is looking to be the best for me so far
Hey Tim, When pricing is “what it is” on these higher end off roading trucks, I’m guessing that mileage isn’t a big sales factor for buying. Now, on to the seat issues. Yes those seats are terrible. After my trip to Florida and back to (2021) Pennsylvania In my 2016 Yukon XL SLT, it had to go, downsized and not a GM. Subaru Ascent and I have made the same trip twice and my butt thanks me.
Does it have lockers ? Chevy has hard crappy seats. Ford has the best interiors hands down. And pricing of all trucks across the board it totally Ridiculous which a lot of people cant afford and the introduction of 4 cylinder engines in trucks will be the Downfall they don't hold up or last long!
Overpriced like everything else... Amsoil will NOT void the warranty.. it not only meets requirements from Chevy Ford Toyota etc but it far exceeds them
Its not the smartest design, however it doesn't cost $3000. Its about 6-8 hours of labor. So depending on the shops hourly rate, $600-1000 plus the $25 dollar belt. And at 200k miles...
I've owned a 2018 Ford Raptor for 4-years. I owned four new Chevy Silverados consecutively before owning the Raptor. After owning the Raptor, I would never go back to owning a GM truck product. The lifter problems associated with DOD, the transmission issues, and the electrical problems I experienced on all Chevy’s were absent on the Raptor. I had zero issues with it through ownership. As far as the 3.0 diesel, I love the engine, the specs, and everything about it except one thing: the timing belt design. That is no bueno for me.
Just wait until you have to change the oil pump belt. You have to drop the transmission for that. $3000 💰 💴 💵 for the whole job, and the belt only costs $25. One of the most asinine designs in automotive history
GM should make the seats they had back in 2000-2006 for their full sized trucks and SUVs. They were comfortable. I had a 2001 GMC Sierra SLT. Way more cushioning than what they have now.

same here. dont need no stinkin sunroof. To hot during the day and if i want to look at stars at nite, i can do that outside the truck.
I have the panoramic sun roof in my 2021 ram 1500. I never have the roof open.. sunlight, beaming down on me driving makes me go nutts...
I use mine more than the rear sliding glass lol
The panoramic sunroofs leak like sieves. F150, Tundra-read all the complaints in the forums.
On Amazon they have seat covers called Coverado they are awesome
I was like you before and now my back don’t hurt anymore
The high oil consumption issue on some of the 3.0 Duramax has been traced down to a glow plug/seal issue. There is a GM TSB out on that.
I looked into that and it doesn't apply to the LZ0 diesel.
@@Pickuptrucktalkdoes the LZ0 not have the consumption issue then?

Its not the smartest design, however it doesn't cost $3000. Its about 6-8 hours of labor. So depending on the shops hourly rate, $600-1000 plus the $25 dollar belt.
And at 200k miles...
Why get this over a Raptor or even a Tremor?
Because it's a better overlander
Because it’s not a Ford!!!
Price seems to be a bit better, towing is slightly above, a couple of standard engine options depending on want or need etc.
My AT4 had 1285 payload. That's the reason I bought an F350.
Leer makes GM truck seats. They have always been junk.
Put Ford seats in a Silverado and I would be a customer forever.
Oil pump belt design?
What if I was to say that you are always full of it question mark LOL
3.0 is overrated. Sorry not sorry.
Just wait until you have to change the oil pump belt.
You have to drop the transmission for that.
$3000 💰 💴 💵 for the whole job, and the belt only costs $25.
One of the most asinine designs in automotive history
Every 200,000 miles.
One would expect GM to take a close look at the current Ram interior and start trying to catch up!
How can you afford to buy every year? With the prices so high. Not to mention the insurance costs. Gotta love tye Democratic Traitors inflation.
How could I afford not to?
