Hello there! Great Interview! Do you have a suggestion for a good brand of Potassium salt substitute? I've been looking online and some of them have a strange amount of ingredients. Did Dr. Greger mentioned to you which one he uses? You've mentioned "Nu-salt", is that the one you prefer? Thank you 🙏

Habitual liars show the same pathologic relish in misleading people. He looks like someone who has finally found an audience so gullible that he can misrepresent anything and because they want to believe it, they will never question it. He is renowned and renounced for his tendency to cherry-pick data and use logical fallacies like guilt by association such that what is true for tainted meat he wants you to believe to be true for all meat ... even when the evidence he presents literally contradicts him on the very page that he is referencing.

Specially those that went from vegan to carnivore are happy and lucky unlike before.

I agree. Greger is a dangerous liar, and the information he and people of his ilk needs to be countered at every step if they choose to keep doing this, but he's just a human with as much worth as anyone else. What I'm not looking forward to is the (likely) incoming flood of alt-right 'told you so's' against the flexitarian/vegetarian/vegan movement that helped accelerate the health crisis. Just because these people are wrong doesn't mean you need to make the remainder of their life a misery. Strongly disagree, but let's live in a tolerant world.

Once I had to eat about one pound of cauliflower each day for 3-4 days straight plus about 1 pound of bok choy each day, because if I did not eat that much, they would be going to be thrown away. So in just 3-4 days, I surprisingly found that some annoying little bumps under my eyes that had been there for more than 10 years, simply shrinked, dropped, and disappeared, and never came back. Few things to consider, I tried this diet, and I experienced significant muscle wasting. Meat contains essential amino acids, key word, "essential". One must incorporate a resistance training lifestyle, nothing is more powerful than weight training for health, everyone is different too, I need lean meat low in saturated fat to keep cholestorol low, I also do cardio so I work out 6days a week.
Dr. Gregor donates to Peta, so he is against meat consumption. That's fine. However, I do not tell others what they should eat. I follow Dr. Peter Attia who is an advocate of a longevity lifestyle.

FOOD HABITS IN LATER LIFE STUDY was undertaken among five cohorts in Japan, Sweden, Greece and Australia. Legumes were found to be the most important dietary predictor of survival in older people of different ethnicities. The results showed that for every 20 grams (one ounce) increase in daily legumes intake there was an 8% reduction in the risk of death. This study shows that no matter what your ethnic background or where you live, eat more legumes to live longer, especially as you age. Of all the food groups including meat, legumes alone had consistent and statistically significant results.

First time to this channel, and I loved the interview with Greger, who I have seen interviewed many times over the years, and recently on this subject due to the new book. But this interview is one of the best, because you really got him to delve into some of the hormonal/enzymatic and other metabolic mechanistic pathways, which he doesn't do as often as much. Kudos. I was then surprised by the level of vehement, willful, often insultingly combative ignorance on the part of a large swath of commenters here about what the data overwhelmingly indicate regarding the benefits of plant-based eating and reducing meat consumption. These recommendations are not based upon compelling personal anecdotes, but hundreds of actual placebo-controlled, double-blind, peer-reviewed research studies, which are Greger's analytical stock in trade, and should be for us all. But... it's a noise-filled, confusing world of information out there now, and a lot of people clearly are challenged in how to navigate it and see beyond their own biases. Good luck, regardless.

Those longevity diets that promote grains in legumes would make me more sick than eliminating them from my diet. You can't understand the pure pain of eating legumes or grains unless you've gone through it yourself. I never have that reaction from meat. I never have that reaction from some fruits and vegetables. So if eating this way kills me then I will die pain-free.

Dr. Michael Greger gave a lecture about the health benefits of mushrooms that I saw in the summer of 2013 and so on my 3 backpack trips with Shane I foraged and ate wild mushrooms virtually every day in the wilderness - and on the 15th day I collided with what I thought were just more common edibles in the button stage and ate a quart pot full of them mixed with my soup that night - fortunately Shane Gard opted out of the mushrooms for that night - he missed all the fun I had - but good thing. Shane was able to get on a hilltop and summon help - 12 hours later a Black Hawk Helicopter with the 101st Airborne dropped a line from 170 feet overhead with an Army Ranger named Al and I was tethered to him and hauled off to Steele Memorial Hospital for 2 days of recovery from my incredible high! I credit Dr Michael Greger forever changing my life and the added advantage of all his great info to increase my health and lifespan.

That's not having anything to do with Dr Greger. He is not telling you eat all and every mushroom. I listen to Dr Greger, and I read his books. But so far, the only mushrooms I eat so far are Lion's Mane, shimeji, shiitake, and one or two others.
I do thank Dr Greger for the corroborating material and research he shares about mushrooms, but not ever has he been my guide or mentor to push or motivate me to go to the wilderness and eat whatever mushroom I find.
In other words, he's not pushing me to be careless and stupid .

Been vegan and vegetarian, done keto and low carb etc. I do believe whole food plant based is ultimately the way to go however believe it's individual and always reasons to try/do different things. I am a nurse and work in healthcare so see that side also. Keto can do amazing things for weight loss and control seizures. And maintaining a low BMI can be extremely beneficial as most diseases are a metabolic disorder. Its all about being open and what works for you. 🥰

The ultimate answer to diet is the anthropological archaeology record and analysis of our meat-eating ancestors over the last 2 million years. The only plant eaters that branched off with us died out. We as predatory mostly-meat eaters survived. In the process we developed big brains, lower colon shrunk, stomach acid levels rose higher than felines, and eventually were so successful that we drove our primary food sources into extinction. Then we turned to more plants and domesticated ruminant animals in the last 25,000 years. It will take a long time to adapt to mostly-plants if that is what we keep eating. I am not going to risk my life on a vegan science experiment when the results already show the mostly-carnivore path is healthier. Omitting SAD foods is obvious for either approach.

I know someone who is on a strict carnivore diet. He has lost tons of weight and looks great, but on the other hand, since he’s started, he’s going blind in one eye. I also know 2 people that were on keto that had to have part of their intestines removed. They, too, looked good. IMHO a person may appear healthy if they lose weight, but that is not the whole picture of their health. Thank you, Dr. Gregor for all you do. 😊

Most people can eat crap until their forties and still look fine. The human body has lots of resilience and "fight back", but only to a point. I see lot's of people posting how great they are on a carnivore/keto diet but never say how old they are. I would guess rightly that the vast majority are under 30, being young gym "Bros". I know, I've been there. When you're that age you can eat crap, get drunk, go to bed at 2am, get up at 5am, go surfing for 4 hours and still stay awake all day to do it again at nightfall...I know, I've been there. But chronic disease is called "chronic" for a reason. It develops over decades- cancer, arthritis, liver disease, kidney failure, cardio-vascular disease. The odd thing that always gets me, is that most people have been eating close to a keto diet anyway. Most people every day eat meat, eggs, dairy, oils in high proportions. Always have.....and they've been the ones getting sick.

@@eliasjr1049 No we didn't. Archeological evidence and analysis of human coprolites indicates a diet high in plants and low in meat. Only in areas dominated by extremely cold climates do populations have a very heavy meat diet. Humans have been opportunistic omnivores, always.

Our great-great-great ancestors weren't looking for broccoli in the winter time they were looking for meat. Our great great ancestors weren't gardening. They moved around where there was water and food meat. Fatty juicy meat including bone marrow. Our ancestors needed to be strong so they can build buildings. Hall lumber cut down trees. I don't think they were looking for a bowl of salad. And then go out and do a hard day's work. They would go out and kill animals and bring them back. The baby children were nawing on fatty red meat not a bowl of broccoli. There was no such thing as vegans back in the ancestral time The bones that archaeologist dig up have proved it over and over again they were not vegetarians they were meat eaters.

I’ve noticed this a number of times already, but the carnivore proponents like to argue that high cholesterol (and ven LDL) is good for you.
