    I'm actually really liking the stage1 OTS tune over the stock tune. It gets rid of that horrible 1st-2nd rev hang, makes the throttle more linear, smooths out the boost curve and improves the fuel trims at higher rpm. Still just interim until I get my parts and pro-tune but still a very noticeable improvement overall. Only complaint is that the throttle requires a tad more input to blip on downshifts.

      You read my mind. I guess I was hating a little to hard on the STG1. I cant wait until stage 2 and eventually a pro tune.

      Me neither man. That's when the fun _really_ starts.

      That's pretty much the only reason why i wanna get the AP, to get rid of the rev hang. I'm willing to spend 650 bucks to eliminate the rev hang. I am not even going to mod the car. But the question is, do i void my warranty just to get rid of the rev hang?? I just got the car a week ago lol. Idk.

      I got my '19 two weeks ago & I just bought the AP. Can't stand the rev hang & the sensitive throttle map. Did you ever find out about the warranty? I'm also planning on keeping the car stock.

    You nailed this review on stage 1 in California. I tried the Cobb 91, the MAPerformance 91, and even an etune from Torqued Performance. None were faster than stock, not much anyway. The rev hang is annoying but easy to adjust too. I think Subaru did fine with tuning. In fact, the stock tune seems to have more mid range punch. Sooo, my AP is for sale... lol! Cheers!

    The access port is absolutely necessary. The stock map on these fa20 engine are not that good. Get it just to rid the 1st to 2nd gear rev hang( for the most part) And then get a different e tune or pro tune other than the Cobb.

    glad to see a stage 1 review that doesnt come off like shilling for cobb. looking at the dyno charts it doesnt make sense when people say it transforms the car

    One thing I love about the stage 1 is how much smoother the power ban is in 1st and 2nd gear. Stock it’s very jerky and 1st gear just goes up in RPM while not accelerating at all. Stage 1 definitely took care of that issue for me!

    • @troyspurvey928
      @troyspurvey928 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just ordered my AP, probably the worst thing for me is the rpms shooting up in first and no going anywhere, super pumped to see this comment

      @@troyspurvey928 What’s you’re thoughts on the tune? Has it help with this issue or no?

  • @tervill8268
    @tervill8268 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I share the same thoughts as you. I bought one just to see what all the hype was about, loaded stage 1, and was completely underwhelmed. I think it would help those who struggle to drive a manual. Great video and nice car.

      Ter Vill I agree. Just installed stage I 93 here in NY. Not impressed with the Cobb tune other then it diminishes the rev gang but it’s still there but not as noticeable. The throttle requires more of a response but after driving stock for 12000 miles, I personally don’t think the price of AP is worth it. With stage I, the car feels like what it should have been stock but I do think the stock tune is not bad. If they eliminate rev hang, stock wrx is a good daily. AP is worth it if you plan on stage 2, protune etc. now I’m debating on stage 2 since I basically killed my warranty already.

    Bone stock '17 WRX - I was very disappointed with the stage 1 91 v302 map. I followed the instructions by the book and when it came to test driving, the low end torque that was very prominent on the stock map was virtually gone. Max boost never went higher than 9.9psi. Acceleration was also kaput. I feel like I'm driving my wife's Toyota Prius (no kidding!!). I drove around 7 miles just to kinda see "is this really what the stage 1 map?" I was so bummed I stopped on my way back and just completely uninstall it. I never expected it to be this worse. Not sure what I did wrong but I will be calling the Cobb support and see why this map failed miserably or else its up for sale...

    • @MrRobear
      @MrRobear  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thats is how I felt from Day 1, and it is weird not having that low end TQ. BUT. I will say after 6+ months of the Stage 1, it grew on me, and does actually help in the upper RPM range. I will have a Pro Tune done in the future., to compare HP.

    • @alexpeguero38
      @alexpeguero38 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      ranniedv after going stage I today, I don’t feel like I’m driving a fast car no more. Now I know why some people say they’ve had better mpgs on Cobb tune, it makes you not way to drive it fast.

  • @iudex_Luke
    @iudex_Luke 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Stock is fast enough but with the power drop off and horrible throttle map, an accessport is a pretty good upgrade to fix that

    Nice review Rob, I appreciate your honesty on the cost and your thoughts on the result. Keeping mine stock for now other than the cat back with muffler deletes, sounds amazing especially on boost and fast enough to get into trouble, lol...cheers dog!

    Thanks for the reveiw. Has the stage 1 MAP helped with the Rev hang and smooth out 1st and 2nd gear?

    • @MrRobear
      @MrRobear  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      honestly, not that much in my opinion. If you know how to drive stick good, you should not have any issues. The REV hang is still there, but not that much a deal to me at this point.

      @ykno321 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      CrazyForCooCooPuffs I still believe that no matter how much money you spend on for the ECU it still does not justify the price. You could see a bigger improvement if you invest money in handling or in the engine compartment
