Have you ever needed a quilt on short notice.😬Well here is a quit that you can make in a day, start to finish. With all the pieces in this quilt it looks like it takes a lot longer.
I love that you aren;t obsessed with all the expensive and fancy quilting paraphernalia. To a newbie like me, it can sometimes feel like a massive consumption-fest! So I love your dollar store design wall and masking tape sewing ledge. It makes it much more accessible to newbies who can't buy an Oliso iron etc etc. Thanks again! Jay
I'm totally with you in this 'expensive quilting paraphernalia' crazyness. A quilter for 40 years, this saddens me as it's got nothing to do with the original idea behind it. If we stick to the basics and Karen's yt advice we'll be perfect 😉
I have to write you and tell you that I enjoy your videos immensely. I have totally uncluttered my sewing room and my stash I have met my goals thanks to you. God Bless you and yours and keep on posting !!
I love your tutorial, love your smile, your articulation, your knowledge, your everything. Thank you, for caring enough to put yourself out there for those of us who NEED, absolutely NEED your encouragement. You did it so well. I am going to watch this again, and take down notes and use up those scraps that breed and reproduce so prolifically in the dark...! LOL!
I am impressed with and appreciate the extra effort you take to make animated graphic video inserts in your teaching. It makes it easier to see what youare saying. Well done. Off to see my stash lurking.
We all learn differently. So I try to hit a number of styles. Hopefully between the graphic, pattern and video it's as easy to understand. Thanks for watching.
I have to tell you, I LOVE your voice. After having flown straight up out of my chair about 150 times when a YT video comes on with a perky, shrieking, much too vigorous HI!!! on the part of a YT quilting presenter, I appreciate you! Soft, calm and melodic Hello...oh, I can breathe. And I've devoured everyone of your videos...such good common sense and adult instruction and encouragement. Each new video you post brings a happy burst of excitement and I make the time to sit down and watch and enjoy. LOVE you and your channel.
Having accumulated a "stash" read "cave" full of fabric over 40 years of quilting - your video's inspire me to just go a grab some fabrics and make a quilt! This is a great quilt to make for charity simple but interesting. Thank you for sharing your joy of being creative !
You are by far my favorite TH-cam personality. Your videos are so clear and concise. Your diagrams are extremely helpful as well. You are clever, witty and, most importantly, authentic. I look forward to your next.
I want you to know that I really enjoy watching your videos. I am not a quilter (although I would like to be), so most of the time you might as well be speaking a foreign language. However, your enthusiasm and willingness to give out little tips is quite enjoyable. Thank you.
Got it and the other ones too. Making a binder with patterns I like in it. I had these on my computer before I think and I ran out of memory and it crashed so I am going to try to print what I want to save out and place in sleeves. Thank you Again I love all your videos.
Karen Brown, you're the best! A local school board member, himself only 20 years old, gathered a list of kids who need a Christmas this year. One five-year-old boy has asked for a blanket. The thought that he might be cold just makes my heart weep! He also likes Marvel cartoon characters. To my own stash, I've now added a couple of yards of Marvel fabrics. Being able to make such a nice quilt in a day means I can help make a nice Christmas and keep this little guy warm! Thank you for this technique!!
I'm a beginner and I was looking for a quilt to make for my great grandson. When I not only saw this quilt, but also heard your name, I knew I found what I wanted. My sister's name was Karen, our last name is Brown
Karen, love this idea! Laying out the blocks IS a time-chew for me, too. I lay them out the way i think i like them, then walk away and do whatever. An hour later, i allow myself one more switch-around, then commit to sewing. This works for me, but i also like the time limit method you suggested. Thank you!
I made this pattern in a different size in bright colors, a few years ago. Everybody in that see's it, wants it. My quilt is 78 x 60 and was made in 2 days start to finish...but I'm a slow sewist. Love that you posted this. It IS quick and easy. I think I'll pull some FQ's now.
I am 34 years old and have been sewing since I was a little girl. I’ve always wanted to do a real quilt but have been intimated. I think I will make this my first one!!! Thank you for providing such an excellent, easy to follow video!!
You are captivating.....Even if I didn't quilt, I'd watch your videos. Love your voice. I went quilt crazy about 3 years ago and made 14 in a few months. Then I had several things happen in my life that quilting had to go to a back burner. I'm starting up again as my life has come to a happy place. I love watching the videos because they remind me of things I'd forgotten.
I have watched this over and over again. ( I am a newbie quilter) it has definitely been on my want to do list. So I have watched how to cut straight. A good ironing technique. Think I need one on how to stack now! 😬 Anyway they are cut and ( badly) stacked. So I am going to have a go. Thank you.
It's my first time making a quilt. I had already cut 6in squares but I think I'm still going to use this pattern. Thank you so much for you videos. Have a blessed day
I'll send a picture once it's done. I have actually been crocheting for about 15+ years and wanted to try my hand in sewing as well because all the pieces are just so beautiful. Thank you
6:06 That’s a good tip! I could see myself rearranging them for days, and then I’m sure my husband would put his thoughts in (as he tends to do) and that’d tack on at least one more day! Lol
I like this! Quick, fun, easy. I created a similar design, but on the 2nd cut I rotate the pile... move a few to bottom of stack, and sew back together - NO seams to match so it sews up even faster. GMTA. Lol. Thanks for another fun vid. You’re a natural at this, Karen!
+Cyn Forest there are a number of easy variations...yours of switching the piles and you can also cut wonky. But I felt this was the fastest...for me at least as I get lost in the randomizing. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for admitting that that last process could take a couple of days ! I overthink also and using a timer is a great idea!! Very nice quilt ...Thank You and Happy Quilting ..
I am drifting over from paper projects to quilting so I am new to all this. I have watched about 8 of your videos and it has helped me so much . First time I have taken the time to get a good "drivers ed program" before I jump into a new type of project. Thank you for making these videos so helpful and fun to watch !!!!
I love these stash buster quilt projects. Sometimes I just want to sew without any stress. Okay. I always want to sew without any stress. These patterns fit the bill, and you, my dear, are a great instructor!
Karen, thank you for this pattern and instructions. I'm a new quilter, (about a year in) and YES, i made this top in an afternoon! Even added a border. I made only 24 blocks, though. I purchased more fabric today, in order to make another this weekend. We have a baptism in three weeks, for two girls. Need those quilts! 😁 Thank you!
I bought a pack of fat quarters today from an overstock store...now I know why they were there! I ended up having to cut my squares at 8" instead of 9, but it looks like I'll have some leftover strips to play with! Also, I've been watching your videos for over a year now, and while I've been sewing for a very long time, I've never made a quilt before! This will be my very first one!
I made two of these quilts in a weekend. I enjoyed making them and loved that I used up fat quarters that I had in my stash for years that I didn't know how to use up. Watch all of your helpful Videos! Thank you!
Hi - you said you made this quilt - I'm to the point of stacking the 9" squares alternating the light and dark. I am just not sure if all 4 piles should be done exactly the same OR do you do those materials in different orders - just wondering for when I go to finish it if by mixing them up it will cause a problem OR if I should have all 4 stacks exactly the same -help!
Thank you for this. I just got back from a 9 State, 4 Province road trip and need to make some room for all the beautiful fabrics I purchased. I also need two twin sized quilts later in the summer. I do not know anything about the people I am making them for except their gender and they are new Canadians. I think this would be a good quilt pattern for make for them. I really enjoy your videos. I appreciate the time and effort you put into making each one.
Thank you for sharing this video and pattern, Karen. It was perfect for some Fat Quarters that I've been wanting to piece for awhile. I also find that tape makes the best sewing ledge, thanks for the reminder! I'm so grateful for your content, thank you
In a coincidence, I started makng this quilt yesterday when I found it on your website. The video, which I found today, clarifies some questions I had while cutting and arranging and sewing the first three stacks. On each stack, after sewing the first set of seams and cutting again, I may have deviated a arranging the blocks differently, so the seams dont match up. I’m a lifelong sewer and a new quilter and am a bit independent. I also habe macular degeneration, which has fueled my desire to find ways to quilt that are satisfying but doable for me. Cab’t wait to lay this one outand finish it. Thanks for the video, even if a little late for my first effort.
To say, I intentionally cut so the seams don’t match up because I don’t see well enough anymore to match them. Anyhow. Quilt came out awesome, and I’m making another.
This tutorial/pattern/video is SO WONDERFUL. You mention everything you need to know! I am not a beginner but this would be incredibly easy to follow along if I still were. Even as advanced of a sewer I am I still appreciate videos like this that are easy to follow along and have great visuals. Tons of advice. And a lovely lady. Love this.
I love your stash buster quilt videos! I keep rewatching all of them. I have already made one of your quilt patterns and have started two more. I am looking forward to more of your stash buster videos.
I never thought sewing was something for me. My teacher in the past....i have to forgive her bad words over me. But í took my work to grandma and she restoured my work. Untill...the teacher find out my work was so/ to good. Oh oh. Punnishment. Now i find an old machine and during covid times i made so manny masks. Now it' s time for something 'bigger': and i found these video' s/lessons on youtube. I like the teacher!! She really encourage her online students. Thank you!! Bye from the Netherlands.
this is a great quilt to get my mojo going , I just moved and my sewing room " spare bed room" is the last to get done my saturday is getting this done ! thanks for your fun and informative videos you are a Gem
I was in Toronto last month was hoping to have coffee with you. Just not enough time. Mum and I took the Via Rail across Canada. Interesting adventure with an elderly parent to say the least.
Love you stach buster small quilts, I have a lot of 10 inch and charms I want to get them used up and donat them to charity so will be looking for more of your ideas. So glad I found your videos keep keep them coming
It is helpful to learn about choosing a taupe or neutral border, especially when using fat quarters from older collections, or from your stash. Your quilt looked wonderful with the the taupe and striped binding, and really showcased how it frames the quilt (as you said). Every time I watch I pick up on something else. Thank you!
I will try that to use up the pieces my grandmother left in two boxes which I have and never was used after she got sick and could not finish her work. That will be my first quilt and once it is together I will feel like I accomplished something and will have the ability to make one of material I purchased myself, but I may have material left over to do another one from her squares cut out.
There's a poem that starts, "If I should die and leave you for a while," by Mary Lee Hall which talks about finishing things that your loved one has left behind, unfinished. If your grandmother is still alive, well, even better! You can show her what you've done with her fabrics! Bless you.
Yes please! I would like more stash buster quilts! I look forward to seeing more if these types of stash buster ideas. Thanks for sharing your talents with the online community.
I absolutely love everything about this quilt! For now I am working with precuts, the thought of cutting pieces any larger than a five inch square is a skill I'm building up. Knowing there are quilts designed to use fat quarters makes me excited to work towards one. :)
Love this! Seems I've been getting a little complicated lately with some of my quilting efforts. I think I'm gonna give this one a try and air out my poor brain! I do smaller quilts that I donate (and that fit within the confines of my domestic machine for quilting) so this one is a perfect size. And I love the wavy line quilting. I'm beginning to learn that I can do any design I want... what freedom! And I love this one! Thanks for sharing! :)
I love your attitude. This is a great foundation quilt for new quilters, smart for experienced quilters that need a gift and fantastic for home or charity. Bravo! These are great videos.
Love this. I am in a bee group that makes quilts for children in tue hospital and we have been looking for a fat quarter friendly quick quilt. This is perfect. Thanks!
This video is so well done I subscribed! I often get confused with sewing directions the graphics and explinations in this video were perfect for me. I loved it. Please do more stash buster or "fast " simple ideas that dont look to simple when finished as a mom of younger kids it makes me excited about sewing again.
Love this!! Please.. more stash busters! This was great and simple. I Always feel bad making such a simple quilt. Most of my quilts are very designed by me. But the actual quilting is my evil nemesis! I hate quilting.. but I will never pay over $200 to have something done I can do myself! I had the worst experience with a "professional" quilter. Never again no matter how much I hate doing it. This looks so simple! Love it!!
Have you ever needed a quilt on short notice.😬Well here is a quit that you can make in a day, start to finish. With all the pieces in this quilt it looks like it takes a lot longer.

That will be my first quilt and once it is together I will feel like I accomplished something and will have the ability to make one of material I purchased myself, but I may have material left over to do another one from her squares cut out.
That's a really beautiful idea.
Love your binding! Great pattern. Keep them coming!
Loved this video.
Hi Pam
Lovely! Thank you
Hi Anne
My quilt turned out great thanks to you!! ❤️❤️
Excellent
Hy yes definitely more of them!!! This is pretty fast, so good!!! I really like it!! I think it would be perfect for my solid bundles left overs.
I love your attitude. This is a great foundation quilt for new quilters, smart for experienced quilters that need a gift and fantastic for home or charity. Bravo! These are great videos.
Thanks for watching
I was hoping to see the backing that you said you would use the leftover cuts for. Love how easy this is!
This will be in another video
Love this. I am in a bee group that makes quilts for children in tue hospital and we have been looking for a fat quarter friendly quick quilt. This is perfect. Thanks!
+liz addison-duenas I use this for my charity Quilts two. I make smaller ones though. So with this 32 blocks I make two 4x 4 Quilts with a border
Love it!!
Thanks for sharing ...this is doable
I’d love to see more stash busting quilts. Pre cut quilts would be great too.
