HI Everyone. A long weekend is ahead for us in Ontario. If quilting is in your plans how about giving this Stashbuster #2 pattern a go. I went out of my comfort zone on the colour, but the fabrics were all in my stash and it felt good to use them up. I'm very pleased with the results and I hope you will give it a try. The free pattern is available on my website Justgetitdonequilts.com
Just thought I’d drop a line to let you know how much I appreciate your videos. I get 95% of my sewing inspiration from TH-cam and often I feel overwhelmed by quilters swearing by specialty rulers and rolls of paper. You make it all seem doable with some basic tools and you let us know when it really pays to invest. I am inspired by your down to earth, humorous videos and very touched by your authentic self. Thanks so much! From a fellow Canadian living in a foreign country (you make me feel at home 🥰🇨🇦)
Was watching your scraps series thinking I needed to get ready for bed when the “dig out the UFO” episode came on. Oh, I need this, I thought-but then said “eat the frog first”! So I did my bedtime routine and THEN watched how to pull out an old project. Thanks so much! Your videos are great and I’m so glad I found you!
I must stop binge watching your tutorials because they are keeping my from my goal! What's that you ask? 1) We're seriously thinking of downsizing from a 3 story 3500 sq foot house to a condo at the beach. 2) My studio is the whole 3rd floor ... including a longarm (and everything you collect with that!), fabric stash, huge design wall, dsm/ironing/cutting stations, light box area for art/collage designing ... Need I go on? It's massive. 3) I need to fit all that into a roughly 8x8 room. 4) Googled compact sewing studios. Lots of ideas, but YOU, my dear, oh so very smart, Karen, have come to the rescue with your succinct, very informative, useful and non-chatty (aka wasting my precious time) information! 5) Sub-goal 1 now is to use up as much as I can before we make the move. 6) Sub-goal 2 finish as many UFO/WIP's as I can before we make the move. Can I thank you enough? I think not!
I'm in search for a quick stash buster quilt pattern and thought I'd rewatch your stash buster series before realising these videos are 4 years old! Still very relevant today but how time flies!
Waving from across the lake in Rochester, NY - I just have to say thank you for this quick and easy pattern. I was at the end of my rope after reworking a more complicated quilt about 5 times, and took a breath and just made this to prove to myself that I did know what I was doing with colors! Everyone who sees it loves it (I gave it a frog border and quilted it with frogs because my husband insisted it reminded him of frogs) and it became an immediate favorite. The break also helped get that other quilt back on track, so two wins in one. Love your videos, please keep them coming!
I’m in the middle of my 2nd quilt ever and I just found your channel today... you are a national treasure that should be protected at all costs!!! Thank you so much for your easy tutorials!!
Im doing something similar to this. A friend offered me some fabric scraps. I didnt knot that she would give me 4 bags 20 kgs each! of scraps. These are leftovers from a clothing factory, so i got a lot of evenly sized scraps in coordinating colors, many of them strips. so im joining the strips into long sections alternating light and dark patterns. since they are not completely even, it looks a bit wonky but seems intentional. im cutting the smaller pieces into shapes and making blocks. made more than 100 blocks of different sizes in a day, plus a long strip of smaller strips! some people´s trash is another people´s treasure!
I followed this pattern with some scraps I had, and I have to say it's the PERFECT scrappy quilt! My best friend loved it too... so much that I gave it to her. Thank you for this awesome stash buster pattern! I love this and will be making another for myself lol.
@@JustGetitDoneQuilts You should! It's what you called in the past, a quilt palette cleanser? Very versatile too. Stay safe. Love ya, my Quilt Momma!!!
I have a tip on the masking tape: instead of pulling off one layer at a time, use an exacto knife, packing cutter, or razor blade and cut off a strip section from the roll of tape, cutting through several layers at once.
Hey! Just wanted to say a big 'thank you!!!' for your videos. Watched your previous Stashbuster tutorial last night, and promptly grabbed 4 FQs and a couple other scraps. Wow! I had a beautiful baby quilt top in one evening! So excited to shop my stash for borders today. I've never, ever, ever completed a quilt top so quickly. Your time and wisdom are so appreciated. With gratitude from your newest subscriber ~ Happy Quilting!
Gorgeous! Just found you on TH-cam a couple of days ago. I hate to sew, but I know how! Mom and sister were excellent seamstresses. I ordered some material, maybe fat quarters(?), and going to try my hand. Prayers would be appreciated. I haven't sewn in many years. The hardest part will be finding the supplies and gathering from all over the house.
Thank you for another fun stashbuster quilt that I will be making soon. I just finished one using your previous stashbuster video, with a modification of adding an alternate block to make it bigger. I am very pleased with it. I confess I will have to replay this one to get all the details correct as it went a little fast for me. You are so positive and enthusiastic and I appreciate that.
You are so inspirational Karen. I aspire to be this competent at quilting one day but in the meantime I am learning so much from you and just want to thank you for your fantastic content! The quilt is SO beautiful!!
Love these quick quilt videos. I have done that many times stitching my blocks the wrong way. That's a great idea to mark it with tape. I also prepare binding ahead of time and keep it in a box. Sometimes I have to sew up new binding to match my quilt and do it first before I start a quilt so it's ready to put on when it's time. Lovely quilt. Thank you.
Nancy Bezzina I've started doing this too. Normally by the time I'm done quilting, I don't want to have to start cutting and piecing for the binding - I want to finish it 😊. So I make my binding when I'm making my quilt top
Our guild name tags a super strong magnets, I place the magnet on my stitch plate at my ¼ line. I have also tried the tape layers on the back of an extra ruler to create an HST trim tool. Place the tape on the diagonal line. I used several layers of double sided tape and a strip of Magic tape, to help hold the ruler in place. As to the straight sewing.... no advice. They often say some drivers might even be better drunk..... not sure if that applies to sewists. 😂
I really enjoy your videos....I started sewing in Jr. Hi. And made most of my clothes...and with marriage and 3 children, my time was very limited, So after the kids married, and left the nest, I had time to pursue sewing again, for the past 30 years. And I discovered rag quilting...among other types of quilts....thanks for your videos, and inspiration!
I have also used my digital camera to take a picture to help me remember my arrangement before I pick up some of the pieces and take them to the machine.
I too am challenged when taking rows off the display wall and getting them to the sewing machine. Good tip and great tip about starter blocks between stacks. I really like that idea., 😀
Just saw this 2019 video in 2022...laughed at your comment that somehow between the wall and ur machine, you manage to mess it up...lol...I didn't know I was dyslexic until I started quilting...for the life of me, some blocks switch up on me from their stack to the machine!!! I do a lot of "unsewing" 😆 TY for all u do!
You sure make a great teacher! Although I've been sewing and quilting for more years than I care to think about, I'm always learning from you. These stash busters are amazing. You talked about being "uncoordinated" when it came to moving your blocks from the design wall to the sewing machine?? Well, let me tell you I have the same problem. I really appreciate your method of keeping organized. I was always getting up and down all sewing session to the point I was exhausted. Thank you so much for sharing. It's so much appreciated. Hope all is well with your son! Please take care and hugs from Winnipeg!!
I think the best tip for me was to use leaders in between each column. Brilliant. With my last quilt I was wondering how I could easily know where each row or column needed and the next started while chain piecing. I’ve never used leaders and enders before so this is an easy way to get started. Thanks!
You have helped me more than you know. I grew up quilting but have not quilted for at least 15 years. Didn’t realize how much I have forgot and/or relied on my mom. Thank you so much!
Love you easy quilt patterns and quilting. I, too, quilt my quilts with a straight meander. It's fast and relaxing. Love how you sandwiched your quilts, particularly taping the edges down! Gonna try that!!
I love the stash busters. Not so much that I have so much stash, but because they're simple enough for this old newbie quilter to do without too much frustration. THANK YOU, Karen. Could you please post again the app or website that helps design the colorways of your patterns?
Ohhh I love you boxes of same colour fabrics, feel like I looking into someone’s shop... As a beginner to quilting (mainly crumb) I’ve very little in the way of a stash, but would love to have boxes like you... loving your videos too.. love from London uk 🇬🇧
Um...I think I need to check out more of your videos. You just blew my mind, baby squares, Ts, inches here and there! I have always wanted to make a quilt. I subscribed to your channel, recently, because I like your personality. While I was pretty lost on this video I think I will check out some of the videos you mentioned. Great job! It is definitely a beautiful quilt.
Another really quick way to bind is to just wrap the backing around to the front and Stitch It Down I've done that a number times and I actually quite like it
I have learned that binding is thicker than wrapping the binding around to the front and works better because of the wear on the quilt. I have done both but usually cut binding now.
We are in snowmageddon2021 here in Nashville TN. I’ve been bonding with you through your videos! Enjoying them all. You have the right mix of some personal news and content. I don’t like to get to know my online quilter for 20 minutes before we talk shop. LOL.
nice job, have you ever shown a video on how to end the binding? I always get twisted up on that part. It would have been nice if you talked about how you end up with the binding touch/matching on the front and back as well? Everyone seems to have their special touch on that part, i would have liked to have seen how you did it.
That was amazing! I've never made an entire quilt in a day unless it was a panel or something like that. This looks like enough of a challenge to start off my fall sewing season. We're farmers so there isn't any sewing in the spring and summer! It makes the season's more interesting! Love your casual channel!
You're such a treasure. 🥳 You're like a treasure chest full of jewelry.. 🤑. I am so thankful and very blessed that I have found your channel.❤❤❤❤ keep them coming!!! From Southwest Louisiana...
Just wanted to tell you that you do an awesome job, and I appreciate that you keep learning ways to improve the presentation of your craft. Keep up the great work!
Just watched your video after watching a tutorial from BERNINA. It was on dual feed foot vs walking foot. Based on info from new 2021 video. Quilting your quilt and binding a walking foot would give better results because it is wider than dual feed foot. Its feed dogs would help pull the weight of your quilt. I love this quilt. I am going to do a stash buster too. Thanks for the lesson.
Thank you for the pattern! I don't always understand what you're saying (the color theory series was too challenging for me) so the visual pattern is a very useful.
I found this video last week looking for an easy quilt project to start for my first one ever on my own. I really like the tips and tricks that you use. I have saved this video and am using it as my guide to make my quilt. I have also subscribed to your videos and look forward to my completed project so I can watch some more of your featured videos. Just wanted to say great job and thanks.
I just discovered your channel this afternoon, and i am hooked, haha. I am new to quilting, and you make it look fun, interesting, simple, yet still delightfully challenging at the same time. That is a good thing, some quilts are far too challenging for somebody with no experience , like myself, and many show projects which are beautiful, but so complicated they are no place for me to start. You also teach the foundational stuff like ironing, (which i am not very good at, very little practice since permanent press hit the racks when i was little and Mom gave up the tedious ironing chores before i learned how), and your illustrated techniques help me make sense of the process. I have been sharing your helpful, entertaining, and inspiring videos with my crafty friends and family as soon as i watched your Ugly Fabric video, haha. Kudos! You remind me of a friendly, helpful, savvy neighbor, who specializes in quilting and breaks it down into bite size, easy to follow steps, and leaves others convinced they can do it , too. Thanks for the videos. Much enjoyed!
Love this quilt. I've not done to much in quilting. I have done some mini ones for grandkids years ago and started a denim top but had to move and it got lost. Maybe some day it'll turn up. Happy quilting! :)
Your videos have become a "must watch" for me. I love to watch you quilt and enjoy your tips and tutorials. You are much quicker at cutting and piecing than me. Thanks for such great content.
+Cali Crafter In Most of my video segments i have upped the speed sometimes over x20...so I’m not as fast as it looks. So please don’t feel the pressure to rush.
I love your stash busters! As always, your videos are very clear, concise with very useful instructions and tips. And the videoing and editing is great! I, too, am very challenged getting blocks to machine in the right order. In fact, I’m so challenged that I didn’t quite understand your tape system and will watch again. Ha!
When you are laying your quilt out on the wall, are you taping each block or using push pins! Thank you so much for being so generous with your knowledge! I am a beginner sewer and your videos are my reference for so many questions! You have empowered me to try more things!!
Very nice, I’m impressed and of course I’ll have to watch this video again maybe even two or three time to catch the method and arrangement of fabrics. Thanks for sharing 👍❤️😊
Wonderful, l am losing it with quilting, at 82 one doesn’t have the patience. This quilt l will try, not more big quilts, l quilt them by hand too much to throw around. I enjoy your iPads projects. Pleased your son is getting better, l will keep him in my prayers. Thanks again. Dolores
Karen, great video! I get so much from all your videos and I also thank you for being real with us, sharing things that affect you in real life, showing emotion. Can I ask the type of container you store your fat quarters in? Would love to find some like that!
Excellent idea! Yours looks great. I especially like the backing fabric, love your "After-Quilt" almost as much as the front!! ( I also see no reason why it can't be made larger, for use as an adult quilt ). Thanks for the inspiration! ~Diana from Toronto/Hamilton
Great videos. I am making my first quilt and your knowledge has been so helpful. One question, is there one way better than another when assembling the quilt top? Is it better to assemble them as rows or bigger squares as you go? Thank you so much.
And BOOM! You did a fantastic tutorial again! This is definitely on my list to get done before Christmas! You’re so down to Earth that you’re my favorite teacher!

I have also used my digital camera to take a picture to help me remember my arrangement before I pick up some of the pieces and take them to the machine.

I have always felt guilty about my stash, but clearly, I need more fabric! I can't wait to try this one!

Thank you for this great inspiration and instructions. Have so much scrappy fat quarters(won at a retreat game) now to work on strips as well
Quick Tip: snap a picture with your cell phone camera of your design wall arrangement before moving any pieces.

So beautiful. Love the simple pattern to create such a "complicated" look.
Usted es una master.... Me encanta lo que hace!!!
Thank you
I have a long work weekend. I think I’m going to treat myself by making this quilt on Sunday. Thank you!
Great vid on stash busting! I give a lot of my stash to new quilters
So excited to find your channel, love your ideas and helpful tips. And ready to get quilting again after a 2 yr hiatus. Thanks
That tape wedge is a fantastic idea and will really help me. Thank you!
I am going to make this pattern quilt next. Such a quick quilt to make. Thanks for showing me how.
I love all your tutorials ♥️
Wonderful, l am losing it with quilting, at 82 one doesn’t have the patience. This quilt l will try, not more big quilts, l quilt them by hand too much to throw around. I enjoy your iPads projects. Pleased your son is getting better, l will keep him in my prayers. Thanks again. Dolores
Thank you for your teachings! Much love!
I really enjoy that keep things real.
Wow you are absolutely amazing. I love your quilts cannot wait to get some fabric and make one of my own for the first time
OMGsh!! I've been trying to find out more about choosing COLORS! Thank you! I am going to go watch your presentation on colors NOW!
Great pattern idea!

It’s one of my favourites

I'm so glad I found your site a while ago. I watch everything you put out. Thank you so much. Your so good at what you do.
Thank you for renewing my interest in quilting again 🤗🤗🤗🤗
Thank you
Karen, great video! I get so much from all your videos and I also thank you for being real with us, sharing things that affect you in real life, showing emotion. Can I ask the type of container you store your fat quarters in? Would love to find some like that!
They are scrapbooking containers from Michael's.
Very fun - look forward to trying!
Thanks, Karen, for sharing this pattern. I love the backing, too!
Excellent idea! Yours looks great. I especially like the backing fabric, love your "After-Quilt" almost as much as the front!! ( I also see no reason why it can't be made larger, for use as an adult quilt ). Thanks for the inspiration! ~Diana from Toronto/Hamilton
I am a new quilter.
I am learning lots of useful information from your videos
Thanks
I love your practical tips.
I love it! May make this first to use up squares and get back into the quilting grove again!!
You are so much fun. I love your videos. I'll be doing this for a baby. Thanks!
Great videos. I am making my first quilt and your knowledge has been so helpful. One question, is there one way better than another when assembling the quilt top? Is it better to assemble them as rows or bigger squares as you go? Thank you so much.
Love your videos!
You are SO MUCH FUN!!! 👍👍👍
Presioso. Me encantó. 💖💖💖🌹🌹🌹
And BOOM! You did a fantastic tutorial again! This is definitely on my list to get done before Christmas! You’re so down to Earth that you’re my favorite teacher!
Thanks for watching
Lovely quilt and it is simple enough for a relative beginner. Thanks
Beautiful
It’s my fav so far
Thanks for the free pattern, tips and tricks. I need to make two baby quilts for very special people. Perfect timing. :)
