Wow, you guys played a ton of excellent games, what a great month! I forgot about Khora. I'm gonna have to dig that one out and get it to the table ASAP. I seem to recall having difficulty during the first few plays. Then something clicked and I saw the awesomeness. I can't wait to revisit that experience!
That was my experience with Khora! I even had a horrible play after it “clicked” haha
I find if you don’t find a way to make money quick it really gums up the works!
Magic Maze PTSD, love it. I remember that night and I too share your feelings about that game!

We definitely did not play Sagrada with Fr. Greg. He might have got too much sun on his canoe trip.

Always a pleasure, great fun gentlemen. We got in over 100 plays as a family. Probably the best of the month was newly acquired Guild of Merchant Explorers which we played 6 times. Great game.

I got to play my new version of Castles of Burgundy! Definitely the highlight of the month.

My board-game-hating wife and I played Strike last weekend and she loved it! She also likes YamSlam - a yahtzee-like game played with poker chips instead of pencil/scorepad. Very fun! Her introduction to boardgames was 7 Wonders, and sadly I think it ruined her for the hobby.
O bummer! I am glad she liked Str!ke. Maybe with games like L.A.A.M.A. Or Las Vegas you could win her back :)
My husband and I have only gotten Khora to the table once, but through our randomizing of the cities, I ended up with a severely underpowered one compared to his (I looked it up to confirm I wasn't crazy or just awful at the game, lol) and we still have yet to get it back to the table to try with more matched cities. But we need to! I feel like I'd like it otherwise.
We played again last night and it seems like if you do not play straight into your factions strategy you will not win. Not sure if that will make me feel to much like I am on rails in future plays or if that is one of the fun puzzles of the game (to figure out your faction). I should look up the balance issues though and see how I can do with one of the worst factions :)
Tiletum is one I'd like to try. I wasn't a fan of Teotihuacan, but haven't tried any other "T" games. Tzolkin looks interesting.
Plays for July:
Legacy of Yu, Hadrian's Wall, Expeditions, and Castles of Burgundy Special Edition. They really hit it out of the park with CoB Special Edition. We haven't tried the new vineyards expansion yet. Expeditions follows the typical Stegmaier pattern - it has some balance issues, but is fun in spite of them. We only played at 2. I've seen some reports of it having issues at 5 players, and I could definitely see that.
Still want to try expeditions! And I am really eager to play the T series :)
Looks like a great month for games! I've looked into Francis Drake a few times, but haven't played it yet. I hear it tends to run really long and out stay it's welcome a bit. What are your thoughts about that aspect of the game?

I did not find that Francis Drake dragged on. We played at 4 and I thought it had a very nice cadence. It’s not a short a game. But I didn’t notice the length.
