Hey Chris, great video, very helpful, I'm about to remove a stock no paddles wheel on my 18 A3 SLine and replace with the same wheel as you installed. I really like your detailed instructions and the video from behind the wheel, super helpful. Great Job, thanks a TON
Hey Chris, great video! Quick question! At 5:14, Is the alignment mark, on the steering wheel, and the alignment mark on the steering wheel shaft the ONLY way you know that you have the wheel on straight? Are there any other markers that can also be an indicator that the wheel is on straight like, for example, the clock-spring sticking through the two holes? I'm asking because I purchased a carbon fiber steering wheel from ECS and the wheel I have does not have a marker on the steering wheel itself. I emailed ECS on Friday and no response yet so I wanted to ask you while I also wait on them.
That's interesting that it doesn't have a mark, all the OEM wheels I've ever seen have marks, they might be using an aftermarket core to build the steering wheel. Yes lining it up with the clock spring is one indicator that should get you 95% the way there. DISCLAIMER: don't girl getting yourself or anyone else hurt What I would do in your case is put the new steering wheel where you think is straight, bolt it down, and go for a test drive. Assuming your car has a good alignment this is the only other way I know to get it set straight. Good luck dude
@@96ej Yeah, I thought it was weird, too, how the ECS carbon fiber wheel didn't come with the alignment mark. I'll wait to see what they say before I tear down my existing wheel. I was just hoping there was another sure-way to know if the wheel was on correctly or not in the meantime lol Thanks so much for responding
Hey Chris, just wanted to give you a update: ECS apparently does not sell anymore CF wheels with the alignment mark so I used my existing wheel along with the clock-spring holes to align it correctly, and that method worked, thankfully. Not sure if you mention this in your video, or if I missed it, but my air-bag light came on and only way I was able to get rid of it was using OBDEleven and cleared it out manually. Thanks again for the video
So the engine light was on for a secondary O2 sensor because of the tune. I opened up the cluster and covered it with tape. I have since sold my A3 but I told the new owner about it. That way if they scan it there won't be any surprises
Hello I just bought an a3 8v 2017 without the paddles on the steering wheel and I inquired at the dealers but they do not add this type of option so I searched a lot to find out if it was possible to install it and I came across your video if I understood correctly there is no need for coding or other to do just connect the right lines and it will work is that right? If this is the case thank you very much I am French and intend to try so thank you very much for the answer
I have your exact car and wanted to do this to mine (fantastic video btw it’s super helpful) but I’m worried it’s going to give me a check engine or any codes. Does it affect that at all???
If it's from the same vintage it'll be the same. Also for what it's worth that's actually an A3 airbag on an RS7 steering wheel, it's basically the same thing as a S3 steering wheel but the leather is fully perforated and it has the taller paddles
Hey @Midwest Chris, i was wondering if an Audi S3 flatbottom steering wheel is going to fit in my A4 B8 2008? Looking forward to an answer. Thanks in advance
It will bolt in but I don't know if the connectors are the same or compatible. I've changed out the steering wheel and pretty much almost out in Volkswagen I've ever had but in general those were older and I would swap them with quote unquote era correct Wheels
Whenever I want to see if something will work and something else I always start on eBay and looking at used parts and seeing if the connectors are the same on the part I want to use and the part I have
@@96ej Im not that smart when it comes to all that stuff😬been trying to find an answer on forums, the only thing i found out is that i should work. You just have to change the wiring

Hey, do you think it would work for my a3 8v 1.8t? I have the premium trim and paddle shifters weren't an option for it. But they were an option for the premium plus etc.
Since I haven't done it I can't say with 100% positivity. But since I'm guessing you have a Z8 and it's of the same vintage you should be able to do the exact same thing that I did. If for whatever reason it doesn't work you'll just need to go into vcds and enable paddles. I think there are videos out there of people doing it on q5s and it works perfectly so I wouldn't think that your car would be any different especially since it was a factory upgrade
I'm going to reverse-engineer this question again I don't know how I missed this the first time😅 yes it'll work because the RS7 steering wheel was out of an 8-speed car and it works perfectly in my 6-speed car
Hi a bit late apologies, but wondering would this type of flat bottom wheel work with a pre-facelift A3 that doesn’t have the round airbag as standard? Thanks!
They push in towards the middle, if you have a good quality screwdriver with a sharp edge that'll do better for grabbing it then something that's rounded. Once you get the first one the second one is super easy, it also helps to pull a little on the airbag while you're pushing it down that way when it's out it's out
