    Just a tip from working at a VW/Audi tech, just helpful information to you or others. Any connectors, push them together first, press on the release clip, then pull apart. This will help A TON of people who are having problems with getting connectors apart. Your not doing anything wrong, just a tip to share! Great video! Oh, and a good set of short and long picks are some of the most useful tools I had.

      This. Fantastic tip! I'm also a certified VW / VAG Service Tech and I had to learn this the hard way ... (looking at you cam angle- & knock sensor)
      Thank you Jay for this cool video 👍🏻
      btw beautiful R8 and nice working space!

      This applies to so many connectors. Push them in to relieve any tension that might be making it difficult to release the clip. It's the first thing I do before going full 200 pound gorilla and breaking something.

    The "leather punch" that Jay has is actually called an Awl. A punch usually removes a bit of material rather than just pierce it. This has been your leather working lesson of the day. :)

    • @Lizlodude
      @Lizlodude ปีที่แล้ว

      Always liked awls. It's like stocker or aunt, it doesn't matter how hard you try, you always say owl and anyone who doesn't already know what it is looks at you like you're crazy.

    • @strongislandx
      @strongislandx ปีที่แล้ว

      I always remember an awl because that's how braille was invented. Caused him to lose his eye and also used the awl I think to make the bumps

      I've watched a lot of Reality videos. If you make one from a long nail wrapped with strips of bed sheet as a handle, then it's called a PigSticker. But if it's made from any flat sharp object, then it's called a shank. Thank you, kiddies. Next time, i will teach you awl how to make wine in the toilet. 🎼It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood.🎵

    I have these paddles on my M2. Worth mentioning that you can dampen the sound a bit by opening the housing and adding tape/foam/etc behind the magnet if the sound is too pingy for your liking. I don't mind it but my passengers always ask what that loud clacking sound is when I shift. Also they have aluminum paddle option if you don't want carbon fiber.

    • @aserta
      @aserta ปีที่แล้ว

      The aluminium one is the best for two reasons. CF damages over time: sun, oil from your hands etc. And secondly because the aluminium ones cool down, so on a hot sunny day, you'll have less chance of burnt fingers.

    • @rustler08
      @rustler08 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@aserta You do realize that CF stays waaaay cooler than aluminum, right? If you've ever had a carbon fiber exhaust before on a motorcycle, you know that it's one of the massive benefits of using one: they really don't get that hot.
      Aluminum cools off quickly, but so does CF while also just never getting all that hot to begin with.
      But, you are correct about damage because of UV.

    Very useful video for when I win the Lotto and buy an R8!
    Jokes aside, nice that Jay points out the common "Now do everything in reverse" issue that seemingly every car mod video does. Jay does it right, show the process!

    I really appreciate that you showed what depressing the spring did instead of just saying “depress the spring” at 7:35 . The way my brain works, I can create a visual in my head of exactly what I’m doing if I run into an issue. Thanks for the different type of video!
    My example of a similar situation is that installing a car stereo once, instructions said to remove a connector for the 4-way flasher switch, but didn’t mention that it had a clip like the orange one you showed on the yellow connector. Did the install on hard mode with the switch flipped back. FF a few years, new stereo, new instructions “pull out the clip”. Fuuuuuu😖
    Edit: clarity, autocorrect

    If you roll the window to the top and briefly release the switch and then hold the switch for a second it will set the basic settings. In the world of flat rate, this will shave off 9 seconds per window. 👍🏻

    i wish that more company’s would use single side paddle shifters, pull back on either paddle to down shift, up and either to go up a gear. it works great for casual driving because you don’t have to have both hands on the wheel, and it’s nice for the track if the paddles rotate with the wheel

    Everyone saying disconnect battery so the airbag doesn’t go off is only true if you accidentally poke the airbags connector with a metal tool while disconnecting it effectively shorting it. Y’all saw that plug, you don’t need metal near it and it’s huge, you ain’t getting anything near its pins to short it and cause the airbag to blow. You can definitely do this for modern cars without disconnecting the battery. Just as jay said, you get SBS errors.
