    I’ve always wished that pedal and amp demos would use a looper. That removes any bias that the player may have for a certain option.

      I think it depends on the demo. If it’s like here, where you’re comparing very similar pedals to each other, then a looper is perfect to highlight the subtleties.

      It is great for these kinds of clone demos, but the thing is a pedal can change the feel and make you play a little different. So for more varied selection of pedals it can actually be less fair than a human player who is trying to make most of each pedal.

      Yes. And 99 percent of klon demos. Bang chords. That’s not what klon is best at. It s best at fatting up weak leads. Bluesy.

    So i received my "Muslady Golden Horse" a couple of weeks ago. I fell in love immediately. That's the cheapest pedal i have ever owned and it's the only one along with a tube-screamer like that i would never want to do without.
    It just makes everything sounds better: clean, drives, chords, riffs, high gain.
    I didn't understand Why people use it as a clean boost. Well i do now. It's where it really shines, it's like magic.

    I took a chance buying the mosky golden horse. At the price, I figured why not? I was pleasantly surprised how good it was compared to the other higher end pedals on my board. Today I did a recording session where my rhythm tone was the mosky (output and tone at 1 o'clock and tone at 11 o'clock) for versedls & pushed by an xotic ep booster at minimal setting for choruses. For solos, I used the mosky pushing a revv G2. It's a fantastic little pedal. Even better since it's so affordable.

    This is the channel of my dreams. Thank you for creating the best pedal comparison demos. The manufacturers MUST pay you for those honest reviews. When demos like this are biased towards some companies (such as when the player obviously picks harder and more carefully when demonstrating the "more expensive" equipment), it seems like mocking the customers and doing this only destroys the will to buy those products. And products seem like they have "nothing to hide" when the comparison demos are objective. Because your demos show for what differences we are paying more/less.
    Can you please make a series of videos where common dirt pedals or their clones (such as ocd, ts, muff, rat etc.) stacked with each other? Because the usual case is to stack them for screaming solos or chunky, edgy rhythm tones.

    • @ThePedalBored
      @ThePedalBored  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ha! I would love it if they paid me, but I don't think that's every going to happen. :)
      Gain-stacking is a thing I'm only recently beginning to get a handle on, and since there are SO MANY drive pedals on the market, it's hard to pick the definitive combos. (The one that's really interesting me at the moment is the DOD 250 Preamp, and running different drive pedals into that.)

    Another awesome video, brother!
    As expected, the Decibelics is ace as it’s a true “clone” in every way.
    But for return on investment, I still think the Mosky Golden Horse is solid at $18.
    I really like the Tone City Mad Horse too, although it’s more of a stand alone distortion pedal than a Klon knock off in my opinion.
    I like a lot of the pedals from that Tone City series, especially the Sweet Cream (which is a Mad Professor Sweet Honey clone), the Tape Machine (which is a Mad Professor Deep Blue Delay clone), and the Summer Orange (which is an MXR Phase 90 clone).

    I’ll number thoughts this time:
    1. Excellent video, this is entertaining and extremely helpful.
    2. Good to know the MXR is basically as faithful as it gets to a proper Klon, some folks on guitar forums ragged on it, but I’m now sure it was due to confirmation bias that a mass produced pedal can’t possibly be a proper Klon.
    3. What is up with mini BYOC pedal gain pots? I had a Li’l Op Amp Big Muff clone from BYOC and the gain didn’t get into proper Big Muff territory til it was at 75%! This Li’l Klon has the same issue.
    4. Running 7 mini Klons together gives you a good shoegaze tone. Kevin Shields will see this and immediately buy 7 more Klons.
    5. Ever try the Way Huge Conspiracy Theory? I got one for less than $100 on a Memorial Day sale and it’s awesome. Not sure how it compares to the MXR (they’re both under Dunlop’s corporate umbrella) but it does everything I want a Klon to do and it’s built like a tank.
    6. Keep up the good work! Looking forward to the Boss SD-1 shootout!

    • @ThePedalBored
      @ThePedalBored  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unlike a lot of pedals I try, treble boosters really do need a particular kind of amp - I don't think the Katana would show them off correctly.

    • @pastorkev777
      @pastorkev777 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ThePedalBored you could try the brown channel just lightly broken up and see where it goes. Another option is to use a preamp pedal to help the tone be more receptive as well.

      you actually need a vox ac30 like amp which is darker and more focused on the mids to demonstrate what treble booster is invented for.

  • @ProCoRat
    @ProCoRat 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    You're definitely right that the high headroom of the Boss Katana 50 probably precludes you from showing everything of which these pedals are capable. I'd love to see these pedals hit the front end of a British valve amp like an AC15. It would probably make it even more clear where your money goes when you buy one!
    For me, I've found cheap pedals have a problem with noisy switches.Its something you don't really get to hear in most demos, but your demos do a good job showing how cheap pedals can often have a bit of a noise/volume 'pop' when first engaged that higher-quality pedals don't deal with. It was unfortunately the reason why I had to return my Black Secret and I ended up just getting the regular RAT.

    Thanks for the thorough comparisons. The mosky gold was my first dirt pedal. It was definitely a great introduction to drive and I still enjoy it. But now I need to find a pedal that can do that awesome pseudo-synth sound you pulled at the end. 🤘🏼

      TBH I guess for most practical purposes that thing does the job just as good. Like: in a band context, in a mix etc. The slightly harsher top end could even be a plus when using it live (and it's kind what you want from a Klon innit?).
      Not to say that one of the dearer ones will feel and sound very nice.

    thought the mxr did the best overall re-creation. but in terms of overall "do i like the sound this pedal makes" i was actually quite taken by the Lil Pony. as you mention, if you want a (heh) workhorse that's going to last, definitely buy from a more established manufacturer, but the cheaper ones do have their place. as always a great review, honestly you basically set the standard for pedal shootouts my friend. appreciate your time

    I've never tried a few of the newer affordable Klones, like the NUX, the Way Huge, and the TC one, but I've tried almost all the rest, as I'm a Klone freak. I've tried the Soul Food, which I hated, and was my least favorite of all. I like the Mosky Gold and Silver even more than it, but they are very low on my list too, as is the Sugar Drive. My favorites, that I've kept, are the Caline Medusa and Pegasus (the Medusa is the better of the two, IMO), the Joyo Tauren, and the Tone City Bad Horse. The others I have tried that I like less than those, but more than the Mosky, EHX, and MXR ones, are the Tone Bakery Creme Brulee, the two Chinese Centaur ones, one of them with the in/out jacks on the top, and one with the jacks on the side (that one is higher gain and more compressed, while the one with the top mounted jacks is lower gain and less compressed, more like the Pegasus), and the Xin Sound RM-10, which is very much like the Centaur with the side mounted jacks, and has the highest output of them although the Tauren is very high output too.

    I must weigh in lol. I own the Decibelics- love it for classic rock and lighter stuff. I use the Mosky Golden Horse for my 80’s hair band stuff. Sometimes I need a little more gain (grit,fuzz,fizz,zapp,boom,”jape”) for some solos. Flying High Again by Ozzy is one of them. The roughness, or harshness of the Mosky works perfect for 80’s hair metal. BTW, I use a relatively low gain setting for the rhythm of flying high, so I need more gain for the solo-cause my talent booster pedal is broken.

    Nice bit o' noize at the end there!
    Got the Mosky Gold and do like it, probably more than more expensive Marshall. However already there is something catching on the jackplug which means it's harder to take out and sometimes needs to be pulled out slightly to make sound. This after only a few months and maybe a couple of gigs where it was on s table so bear that in mind for longevity considerations.
    Cheap n cheerful fun though and you can always buy two and still save
