  • Today, we are taking a look at the PlayStation Portal, a handheld accessory that lets you remotely play your PS5 console on a portable screen. In this video I am going to try and answer the big question for PS5 owners… Do you NEED a Playstation Portal? Is this the ultimate companion for PS5 owners, or just a gimmick?

    Definitely wasn't a need but it is handy to be able to game from the comfort of my air-conditioned bedroom to the lounge room where the ps5 is hard wired too

      Yeah it’s not essential but I enjoy the additional gaming options it gives me.

    It is not definitely a need like a Nintendo switch which works as a standalone console everywhere, but it's worth it because I can lay in bed and play with it while my air conditioner runs and cools me off when it's hot or if I'm warming up milk for coffee in the kitchen. It goes with me and I can play my video game without stopping. It's a really good addition to the PlayStation 5 and I have been enjoying mine so much that it took Remote Play to another level because it does it much better and more efficiently than a smartphone or an awkward tablet.

      It definitely extends where you can play and I agree that it’s so much more consistent and convenient than using remote play on other devices. Glad you are enjoying yours!

    Managed to get one last week. Been upset because I have a gigabit mesh wifi system, a small house, and 1Gb of fiber internet coursing through my home and still get lag spikes and disconnects every 5 minutes. The past week I've spent troubleshooting my ps5, my wifi, and the little I can do with the portal itself to remedy the disconnects, all I have left to do is hardwire the ps5 (I know it's crucial but I needed to order another router because of my home's layout). I will try again today, but I HOPE it's fixed.

      I think hardwiring the console is essential. I had lots of issues with it on WiFi. As soon as I hardwired it has worked almost perfectly. Very few faults. Hope you can sort it.

      Manually program your IP address this is how I fixed mine and bought an AC1200 Asus WiFi adapter and plugged it in the PS5. Play nearly any game now with maybe 5 to 10 seconds of lag or frame rate drop per se 15 mins. So not bad at all hope this helps

    Let’s say my PS5 is turned on or in low power mode in my home… Am I able to play games on the portal if I’m away from home as long as I have wifi?

      @jaygrice  7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Theoretically yes, I have never tried it as I only use the portal at home. I have seen a lot of people online though claiming to be using them from other countries. I think it will come down to the quality of the WiFi at both ends. Also to get the best experience your PS5 should be on a wired connection. I found a lot of lag issues when I was running the PS5 over WiFi.

    As a weird completionist...
    ...YES, I need these accesories. It is irrational and bizarre and I understand myself enough to know that. I am going to get the PS5 camera with no actual plans for it. I also want that new battery life centric controller. I want to have the "PS5 Launch Collection with New Accessories" for reasons I cannot comprehend.
    I love my Portal. It is neat.

      I’m with you. I like to have the tech and try them out but often don’t have a real need for them. At least you recognise it and if you enjoy it, then who cares! I like the portal a lot too.

      I agree, I didn’t see a need but once I had it I really liked how it felt to play

    Whats lowest internet speed you need ?

    • @ToothpasteJuice
      @ToothpasteJuice 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Min 15 mb

    • @jaygrice
      @jaygrice  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I don’t know when it comes to using it outside of your home. Internet speeds aren’t relevant for home network use. It really comes down to your WiFi setup and making sure the console is hardwired.

    Absolutely don’t need it. Esp owning something size of iPhone 15 Pro Max. You get Apps, Native gaming (RE 4, Village, Death Stranding, GTA), Bluetooth, higher res screen, streaming etc. Pickup a Backbone for $50 (Costco) and you’re set. New PSP soon don’t bother.

    • @jaygrice
      @jaygrice  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Fair points, I tried backbone. It’s very cool, but I found even with a larger phone and the backbone it felt small and flimsy in hand. The portal is a nicer overall size but it’s def not a necessary spend if you have alternatives like the backbone. Rumours of the new PSP are exciting though and will likely replace the portal. Nothing confirmed yet though.

    Just double the price tag and get a Steam Deck instead. chiaki’s got PS streaming covered.

    • @jaygrice
      @jaygrice  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It’s definitely an option. I have a friend who has a Steamdeck and my only complaint was the overall weight. But it’s not a deal breaker and the additional functionality is obviously much better. I don’t have much of a steam library as a primarily console gamer.

      @@jaygrice I didn’t either, but they have some real bangers. Ori 1 & 2, Blasphemous 1 & 2, Ixion, Titanfall 2, plus every game I’ve ever enjoyed pre-ps3 era via Emudeck.

    • @jaygrice
      @jaygrice  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Titanfall 2 is criminally under rated! Amazing game. I haven’t played the others but I have a growing pile of shame unfortunately.

    If you can't use it while your ps5 is shutdown then there is no point for it....Better buy a extra controller, it's cheaper...

    • @jaygrice
      @jaygrice  29 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yeah your PS5 needs to be in low power mode, but then when you use the portal it does wake the console up.

      Very true, I think it comes down to the experience you want. I agree though, NEED is a strong term here.
