I didn’t really like it…. Perhaps controversial. I have a couple of special edition controllers but not too many. Scalpers will make this limited consoles a nightmare too. At best I thought maybe the special edition edge controller as I don’t have one of those. But I don’t think my portal or console needs replacing.

I need to see this!

Ok I looked… but I’m fine. I like the original ps1 grey but I have the ps4 anniversary controller. I was more ps2 and if it was based on that the. I think I’d find it harder to turn down.

Not a PC gamer myself but I know that’s a more expensive space to be in.

new games are trash because they are rushed.

We do seem to get more broken games on release that need patching from day 1 or never get fixed. Possibly contributed to by the sheer complexity of modern games. But it is so annoying.

@@jaygrice yea, i hate it when we buy a game and then have to download a whopping 20GB or so of data all becoz some developers are too lazy to complete the game before release date. So if we didnt have the internet, we would playing an incomplete game.

I didn’t say PlayStation fanboys specifically, I agree the gaming world would be much better we all just appreciated the many options we have from the variety of platforms we can play on. I own all three consoles from the big boys and have no loyalty to any of them over another. I have had excellent experiences on all. I think competition is healthy and Xbox need to up their game to put pressure on PlayStation as Nintendo clearly are doing their own thing now.

I don’t want to confuse my message for not wanting advancement in tech. I am a technologist in my work life and love new tech. I just want these advancements to feel worth it and I still think the experience doesn’t match the cost on this one. I’m not alone, there is a lot of people saying the same thing.

@@jaygrice everything ive mention im talking in general not really towards your video, i read so many comments in heaps of other youtube videos and thats all people do, they like to whinge and complain, often its the unemployed or students or the stingy ones etc you just cant win with people. So many click bait videos on youtube about the ps5 being too expensive etc. theres even a video of unboxing the NEW ps5 pro, which clearly is a fake video but some people are that naive and believe it, hence, making him money from youtube ads. So many shady practices among the youtube community.

I am a type 2 diabetic so red bull has been off the menu for a long time. I do like a nice coffee though 🤪

@@jaygrice i think that when tech is expensive then we tend to look after it more and it becomes more precious as opposed to cheap tech, people tend to dispose of it very easily at the slightest damage wear and tear etc. Thats why expensive tech must be appreciated otherwise people continue to take it for granted. Take a look at controllers, how many angry gamers are out there, the moment that get all pissed off at a game, they toss it at a wall and go buy another one because its inexpensive. But now, i dare these gamers to toss a $120AUD controller at a wall. So if they do buy a new PS5 controller for $120AUD, then add that to the total cost of their ps5 console unit and then tell me if they are still complaining about the PS5 PRO cost by then. haha🤣🤣

Slight difference in functionality and usefulness. But I get the point being made. I’m not against buying these things but my point remains that it’s about the value vs the cost.

@@jaygrice well, the iphone maybe slightly different in functionality but do people need to upgrade their phone every 1 or 2 years? hell.... NO!!! but if you have the money and you need to show it off to your posh mates then by all means go ahead. But like i said, people only need to purchase this PS5 PRO just once in 8-10 years, thats it!! you dont need to upgrade the ps5 every 2 years so i dont see the harm in getting one.

Upgrade my phone roughly every three years when the battery becomes unmanageable. But I understand and agree with your point.

I definitely want advances in graphics, I’ve always loved those wow moments when you see something truly stunning like Horizon Zero Dawn or Ghost of Tsushima.

It does make for a perfect pre Christmas drop to get a few more sales. That’s a good point. Black Friday too.

@@jaygrice i think you get the most percentage off when it comes to black friday sales, which means its gonna sell out super fast!!!!! gaming scalpers will aggressively try to purchase them all and sell at double the price.

Not against them making profit, I think my argument is more about what’s missing for the price and how the uplift compares to the existing hardware. It doesn’t feel like value for money.

@@jaygrice for me personally, i think its worth it, in Australia the base slim model is $800AUD, so adding another $400AUD seems reasonable for what we are getting, and extra 1TB easily worth over $200AUD plus ray trancing and GPU for the left over amount which will be $1200AUD when sony releases it on 7 november. So its within reason i feel.

Do you think that the pro will smooth the transition to the eventual 6 then as developers get used to more advanced hardware? I am old fashioned and really want a new console to instantly deliver brand new experiences I couldn’t possibly have on my old console. But those days are gone and I know they don’t make business sense.

@@jaygrice this move by sony is definitely a transition that will ease people into the new era of gaming as will the PS6, specs can only get better from here but it will carry a hefty price tag. Quality means higher cost. Its like if you go to a fancy restaurant, you buy a really delicious gourmet dish but the quantity is very small but it costs an arm and a leg for this meal, some people may say its overpriced and some may say its worth it for the experience. From this point forward, sony will deliver not just gaming but an experience, the VR2 is a good example of immersive experience.

I think other manufacturers will force their hand. Xbox will have new hardware cooking and if they are sensible they will skip a pro like mid step based on how this has gone down. I do think Sony is setting the bar for the next gen though, if people pay then you can bet the new ps6 and Xbox will be up their in price. Maybe after a fairly long time of consistent console pricing (ish) it’s time for a jump. Cost of living and all that.

​@@jaygrice cost of living is very important and ive seen supermarkets raise their prices of certain goods and then when a weekly sale happens, guess what... somehow they manage to cut half the price of that particular product, making us raise the question, if this product sells at half the price and still profit, why are we charged double the price once the sale is over, its because they can, perhaps they want to make it a high end product, perhaps theres a high demand for it so the price goes up, or perhaps it has to do with the sharemarket. But at least when it comes to groceries we can afford to be stubborn and refuse to buy that expensive product and choose an alternate one for cheaper without losing too much quality. So my point here is that a PS5 console is considered a luxury item now, and that its not a necessity item in life, with previous gen models alot of gamers took it for granted, we all take certain things for granted in life and so when theres a sudden shock to the system we tend to realise what we once had and for some, those days are now gone. So now we can only adapt to the system gradually and move forward with a bit more appreciation for the finer things in life.

I upgraded my ps5 storage with an additional SSD. It wasn’t cheap so you are right on that front.

The likes of Amazon will undercut for sure but Sony increasing the RRP means it gives retailers license to charge it.

Maybe something gamers will be less interested in swallowing the cost of.

It is certainly a cost of doing business.

True, the world is a much more expensive place over the last four or five years post covid and everything else we are living through.

@@jaygrice just from my experience, the next gen consoles usually costs more than the previous PRO gen models right? so that means the PS6 base model is gonna cost maybe a couple hundred more than the PS5 PRO model.

That’s scary thought! In the UK we would be creeping close to a grand! But if the tech is worth it I don’t mind. Feel differently about the generational changes than 0.5 mid gen steps.

It’s a fair point, certainly software wise they have the advantage today in terms of excellent exclusives but the pipeline is a bit threadbare. Although with xbox putting titles like the new Indiana Jones game on PlayStation too they are helping some respects.

@@jaygrice Yea this generation on the whole is very dry from both Sony and Microsoft (although Microsoft has been worse than Sony IMO). We got some great games but the frequency of it is slow. I am glad I bought a PS5 after 3 years it was out. That way, there is good enough backlog and since I've never owned a PS4 before, there is good stuff from there too. That actually made this purchase worth it. Otherwise I can see why someone who owned a PS4 has very little incentive to upgrade or is disappointed with the upgrade.

The series X launched at £450 in the UK…. The exact same price as the disc edition of the PS5… not sure what the argument is?

So the dollar and pound are the same now and weren’t then. Because it was $600 / £480, 4 years ago. They also make a lose on ever console. It’s newer tech you’re buying and at 700 for a console that out performs a 2500 gaming pc. Nothing wrong with that.

The truer comparison would be the all digital edition which launched at £360 in the UK. I am not arguing it’s not value to some, but to me the console is an over priced for the gains it brings to me. Each to their own.

As shitty as this is of Sony, it just shows you there are serious problems with the industry and we can't get a price drop on base consoles 4 years in.

@judahfalls7704 it’s crazy to me that we are seeing the opposite. Like the controllers going up in price rather than becoming more accessible/affordable.

@judahfalls7704 they did a similar thing with the PS3 when they were dominating off the back of the PS2. They need real competition and Xbox have fallen so far behind in the last two generations it’s given PlayStation a monopoly.

Interesting feedback, I don’t think we have seen devs get the most out of either of the next gen systems and Nintendo are doing a great job of showing how good gaming can be in far less powerful but more convenient hardware. It will be interesting to see if Microsoft come out with anything as there are rumours of a handheld which feels more feasible than a pro device at this point.

I think the 360 was the golden era for Xbox but it hasn’t had a good rep since the Xbox One.

Agree with you on DLC. Games used to be measured on the quality of the additions the DLC made, now it seems accepted that no game is sold complete and that DLC is a path to getting more money from the consumer.

Thanks for watching and adding to the conversation. Completely agree with you, especially re short experiences when time poor. There is a lot to like about the modern gaming landscape, but there is something special about the classics. We are old, we are allowed to be nostalgic. Haha

It definitely feels like we grew up as gaming grew up. The leaps from 8 bit to 16 bit to 32 and then 64 just felt so huge. It feels more incremental these days. Evolution not revolution. Although games are so incredibly complex these days in terms of how they are built.

Ahh, the good old days of the trusty datasette. Feels like only yesterday ;-) #Pioneers

So cool how similar US and UK were even back in the 80s/90s. I always thought the UK was predominantly Sega and PC gaming.
